Car and Driver magazine ran a radar detector comparison back in the early '90s and the V1 came out on top. As I was in the market for a new detector and as an engineer myself, I was interested in the V1 and called them to ask a couple of questions. To my complete surprise, Mike Valentine answered the phone and we had a very pleasant conversation. Needless to say, I was sold and I've been a V1 owner for 30+ years, including the latest V1 Gen2 model. RIP Mike and condolences to your family.
I picked up my original V1G1 personally in Cincinnati at his shop back in 2017 (mind you I was in my early 20s at the time). As I was checking out (with the lady at the counter, it's a TINY shop), Mike V and his wife hopped out of their nice (older) Porsche, walked in and greeted me. I guess they were coming back from lunch, I'm not sure. I will never forget that moment, it felt great to meet the legend himself as I was literally purchasing his product that he's spent so long developing. I now run the V1G2 with V1Driver and I love it. (JBV1 separately). *RIP Mike V. An absolute legend.*
This one is hard to take. It is almost cliche to say that Mike Valentine was a legend. It's an understatement By the quality of his product, you could tell that he cared about his customers. Mike also cared about the state of motoring. He was a supporter of the National Motorists Association, the group that helped get rid of the 55 mph national maximum speed limit, which virtually spawned the industry. I will miss his contributions to motorists rights even more than his detectors. RIP Mike Valentine. I can't believe that he's gone.
I grew up going to church with mike and his family. His wife was even my sunday school teacher for a while. I was super sad when i heard he passed but its awesome to see how many people appreciated him. He really was a legend !
@@Griggja82That was very clear in the way he lived his life. More than any product he built or engineering patent he obtained, his life was one of using his talents for others and maintaining his personal commitment to integrity through his Faith in Christ in every avenue of life.
I still have 2 valentine ones. I spoke to Mike a couple of times as I’m sure many others did as well. Mike would occasionally answer the phone, answer questions and take orders. One day I called on Thanksgiving Day and to my surprise Mike answered the phone. RIP Mike 😊
My condolences to the Valentine family. Mr. Valentine way of doing business inspired me over 35 years ago. His dedication to customer service, providing the best product to the consumer and remaining privately owned is the best business model if you can do it I tell all of the young people who inspire to go into business, follow what Mr. Valentine did, if you can. We are blessed to have experienced the best product and customer service experience in the industry. Remember, it matters what we do in life, but it matters more how we inspire others to make a positive actions in this world ( as he did for me). God bless Mr. Valentine and his love ones, as I am sure that his legacy will live on. Godspeed, Robert Baker
Completely agree, and yes amazing customer service. I had a V1 from around 1998 or 1999, in 2005 it suddenly started throwing an error code and I could hear something rattling loose inside. Being out of warranty, I called support and asked how much to get it repaired, they said to ship it to them with a check or money order of like I think $70. A few weeks later I received my repaired detector and the uncashed check. RIP Mr. Valentine.
I had a Valentine One Generation1 and it was excellent! A very high quality product that was reliable and dependable. What a brilliant man and entrepreneur. RIP to Mr. Valentine and condolences to his family.
Just saw the news. Kinda shocked, I have owned many of his products and referred more that 25 customers over the years. All happy customers .. Mike equaled innovation at its finest .. God bless his whole family and wife ! Thank you Mike for your amazing products. I once spoke to Mike when I had a question about my new unit, and he was great ! I’ll always appreciate his connection to his work and customers. Finally, I pray for his work family, that they continue to develop the class leader in the radar world. May god bless you Mike … God speed 🙏🏻🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Mike was a pioneering genius when it came to radar detectors. Had the pleasure to briefly meet him many, many years ago. I still have my original Escort as well as my 1st Passport radar detector. I currently run thr V1 Gen2 in all 3 of my vehicles. Mike's products definitely have saved me from plenty speeding tickets.
I had an Escort, Passport, and Solo. Cincinnati Microwave seemed to grow content to stay where they were, and when my CM units aged beyond upgradeability I was so happy to find the V1. It seemed to be where CM _should_ have gone, made obvious by it being the brainchild of one of CM’s founders. I upgraded my V1 over 20 years until it too aged beyond upgradeability, and was overjoyed to discover the V1G2. The thing is, in the early years I got to interact with Mike via e-mail and once even on the phone. As a fledgling RF engineer he was a joy to talk to. He seemed like a very nice person in addition to being an engineer’s engineer. I hope his life gave him fulfillment and joy, and that his family, friends, and colleagues take away great memories of him.
I called in the late 90's to order and Mike himself picked up. I don't remember much of the conversation except one thing. I asked about the return policy. Mike said you're not going to want to return this. 😊 Thanks Mike, rest well.
The Valentine V1 was always very expensive, so over the years I bought other less expensive detectors. Then several years ago after the new V1 Gen2 came out I bought it and have been very satisfied with its performance. Mike you will be missed. Every time my Gen 2 goes off, I’ll think of you….rest in peace.
My first detector was the Passport, loved it until the tech passes it by. I love the arrows on my R7, could no longer have a detector without them. RIP Mr. Valentine.
I remember several years back, everyone was waiting and speculating about the V1G2 and when it would be released. I hope that the Valentine group maintains his legacy.
Sad to hear. I met Mike bumping into him, recognizing him at Amelia Island Concours. He talked my ear off. Very humble man. Invited me to come down to the condo where he and a bunch of BMW "Bat mobile" car owners were hanging out. I know he talked of having I think a Porsche Carrera GT, then saying how Porsche guys kept trying to get him into a 918, which they eventually did. He told me I should attend Cincy's Ault Park Concours, which I did in 2016, and again got to speak with him there. He even came up to me and joined a conversation I was having with another Indiana car collector, again at Amelia Island in a later year. Very nice guy. I heard about and bought the first V1, got two, and eventually got the latest, as well. I have come to appreciate your channel and all your efforts here, and especially so now with this great clip today. RIP Mr. Valentine. I will miss chatting with you at the car shows.
RIP, Mr. Valentine. As a testament to the quality of your products, I’m still rocking my three V1s that I acquired in the late ’90s. They still work great and have saved me countless times-and a lot of money-from potential speeding tickets. Rest easy Legend.
Good to know he loved & served the Lord & was a Christian. I will see you again Mike. Thanks for giving me the start of testing & engineering Rd's for over 25 years. Thanks for the Laser experience visits while owning TMG Laser Jammers.
It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of Mike, a truly remarkable individual who touched the lives of many with his unwavering kindness and honesty. He was a gift from our Creator, and his absence leaves a profound void in our hearts.
Nice tribute, and prayers to the Valentine family & team. Bought a Passport in the 80's and was always impressed with Mike and his technical & business ingenuity. I own the V1G2 now and have no regrets. RIP, Mike.
I was a buyer of one of the original Escorts. I purchased one after seeing how well it worked by a freind who had a 3 digit S/N. Mike was also very big into Ham Radio. He is one of the few $1M donation to the ARRL. Everyone should take the time to google him and see how he lived his life. He will be missed!
What a Great tribute video to Mike. Mike would be proud. I've see your interview with Mike and I bet he respected your work and that's why he did the interview with you. Please continue to remember the greats like Mike. I run my V1 with an R4 and have been trashed by some for it but still think it is a great set up. My V1 is around 20 years old and still very functional. What other radar can make that claim! Vortex I believe you can continued to carry the torch for this industry and continue to make Mike proud. Sincerely, Tom
I actually spoke with Mike once years ago, called support with a question and who answered the phone? Mike! What a nice guy. I’m very sad to hear he’s no longer with us. On to better things and more adventures Mr V.
Thank you for this moving homage to one of the world's great minds. Mike Valentine is one of my heroes, right up there with Steve Jobs. I hope his family knows the real extent to which he is revered around the country. Selfishly, I also hope that he had a succession plan for Valentine Research, a Tim Cook figure who can continue Mike's vision.
I got to meet him at the shop once and he seemed to be a really class guy. We talked about cars, as I'd asked about his, rather than the detectors. Godspeed, Mike.
He was the best of the best and they’ll never be another like Mike. He had passion and dedication like nothing other. A true radar fanatic, and legend! RIP
Sad news indeed. RIP Mike V. My first detector was his Cincinnati Microwave Escort. It was excellent. The next detector I purchased was the original V1. Used that until the release of the V1 G2, which I still use today. He was definitely an innovator and he will be missed.
Sad news indeed, may Mike rest in peace and my sincere condolences to his family. Mike has truly touched so many lives and was instrumental in growing the whole countermeasure genre. Thank you @vortex for your insights and thoughts. Peace.
Really sad to hear this news. Like others have said, Mike V. was an ABSOLUTE legend. RIP good sir, and thanks for everything. Also thanks to Vortex Radar for the heads up on this. Certainly a sad surprise for sure.
I can't say I'm a radar detector enthusiast, necessarily, but due to being aware of Valentine, your videos, apps, etc. I chose a V1G2 a few years back. I love it. I remember all those old ads from back in the day. Sad news.

Great video. Mike was so huge for the industry and so many 1st. So sorry to hear about his sudden passing. Been running a v1 for years and they always deliver.
Thanks for the video honoring Mike Valentine’s history and contributions to the radar detection world. I’ve know of Mike since the late 70’s and early 80’s. Not only a loss to his family and those of us who have revered and respected him over the years but a super loss to the community. His innovations have pushed the community significantly and I hope his company continues to promote and push his legacy.
RIP, Mike. I use my V1 Gen 1 in my weekend warrior, still. Thank you for a great piece of tech that has accompanied me on so many adventures and kept my interactions very low with the road pirates.
I hope the company continues on with the same philosophy. I remember reading about Mike in the news sometimes. He was feisty and serious about his detector. Quite a character. He knew the speeding ticket game was a tax racket. V1 was the best detector for decades, until the stealth detectors came along. Anyway, I'll probably buy the V1G2.
Ahh, that’s too bad. I’ve owned several of his detectors since the 80’s. Escort, Passport, V1, and now the V1G2. Dude knew his stuff! Nice tribute; even wore the same shirt he had on in his interview with Mike V.
WOW Legend for sure. He was passionate about his research / product development and for his customers. It as more than a job for him, truly committed. He will be missed on my levels.
In honor of Mike Valentine's contribution to humanity, I will upgrade my V1G1 to G2 this week. I had been hesitating due to the cost, but I want his family to further enjoy the fruits of Mr. Valentine's unique giftedness.
@usafcombatvet218 I very much want to upgrade however nobody from either ValentineOne, nor any viewers of this channel, have been able to answer my question about V1G2. I will re-post the question on Vortex Radar's newest video, uploaded yesterday, along with a second question on the same subject. And I will send ValentineOne another e-mail. We'll see. Nobody there answers the phone these days. I suppose the company is now in chaos. Which is too bad.
This man has done wonders for the transportation world and a great service to the public. I was also in v1 moments in 2020 with a 13 mile detection of 34.7 from Las Vegas metro pd while heading down us 95 near searchlight, nv that they patrol

The V1G2 has been the best detector I’ve ever owned. RIP to a legend. You will be missed, Mike. 😢
I knew Mike well from my years at Cincinnati Microwave. Thank you for a heartfelt tribute. Mike really was a great guy.
I've had my V1G1 since 1996. I have not gotten a ticket, nor been stopped since getting this V1G1. THANK YOU, Mike. RIP.
You can't help but respect Mike V's drive and vision. He blazed his own trail and managed to stay on top till the very end. RIP to an absolute legend.

I picked mine up in person too, in 1996. I was…16 of course:) Rest in peace Mr. Valentine.
his efforts in the industry have really helped me personally save money from tickets and bail, a true selfless hero

I was featured in "V1 moments" Feb 2007. Never did get my v1 vest. Just a sticker and a lapel pin.
I remember looking at advertisements in the 80s in Moter Trend for the Valentine One, which sparked my interest in radar detectors. Rest in Power, Sir

Great tribute to a great man
2024 had not been kind. My mom passed on the 28th of last month. This year needs to end.
Heartbroken. Thanks for all the memories of when your innovations saved us.
I had a Fuzzbuster way back, and later the V1. RIP Mike.
Thanks for the video honoring Mike Valentine’s history and contributions to the radar detection world. I’ve know of Mike since the late 70’s and early 80’s. Always wanted a Valentine 1 but it was out of budget. And never know the Escort was his baby! That’s so cool.
I’m a radar tech from the military and worked in cellular RF seemingly forever.
Thank you!
Wow so sad rip Mike! V1 🙏 my condolences.
When I was 20, I got my V1. This was in '94. Upgraded it twice and got a second unit in the mid 2000s. Some would scoff at the arrows. Haters. It was revolutionary. Not only warned me of bogeys, but it also informed me so if I did get stopped, I knew exactly when I was targeted and could properly attack the expert witness in front of a judge or magistrate.
RIP 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 for family and friends
So Sorry to hear of his passing, RIP Mike and condolences to the family.
RIP Mike. You've saved me countless times!! 🤙🏽👍🏽
Well done nice tribute!
RIP Mike. My V1 has saved me thousands of dollars in speeding tickets.
Not only a loss to his family and those of us who have revered and respected him over the years but a super loss to the community. His innovations have pushed the community significantly and I hope his company continues to promote and push his legacy.
RIP Mike.Thanks for the video!
OH NO, My condolences to his family and friends, rest easy Mr Valentine 🙏🏻
So sorry to hear the news. He is a legend in the radar detector field for sure. May God comfort his family, friends, loved ones, and fans.
RIP, Mike. I use my V1 Gen 1 in my weekend warrior, still. Thank you for a great piece of tech that has accompanied me on so many adventures and kept my interactions very low with the road pirates.

A really thoughtful tribute to Mike Valentine. Thank you Vortex for sharing.
Mike's V1 saved my butt many times over. Godspeed, Mike.... wait a second, don't speed!

Condolences to the family. I to am grateful for all the money saved by his products. I've had the fuzzbuster II, passport, V1 and now the V1gen2.
RIP Mike, a true legend!
I still use my gen1
WOW
Legend for sure.
He was passionate about his research / product development and for his customers.
It as more than a job for him, truly committed.
He will be missed on my levels.
What a sad moment. I still remember the first commercial. RIP legend.
Sorry to hear 😢
It's Mike's dedication to one detector and progress over time that sold me to only purchase V1 and thereafter into the V1-G2.
RIP MIKE. LOVE THE BLUETOOTH & UPDATES. LOVE MY GEN II
RIP Mike & condolences to his family. I have the V1 & V1 gen 2. They have been great products.
RIP.

RIP
