I was an Escort fanboy for many years, but switch to R7 years ago and now the R8. to me, the RA with the latest from where updates running with R8 Companion app is the absolute Best In Class among the windshield mount detectors. Shame on Escort for peddling garbage detectors at a premium price. Vortex was right to tell them to do better.
Thank you for all your hard work and testing these units. You do a great job. It is reasonable to expect improvements to move the detectors technology forward to provide better coverage. In my opinion, escort has put advertising dollars far out in front of research and development dollars and it shows.
How does the User Interface compare to Escort? Ive grown up with and learned on Escorts, but their latest issues with their apps are absolutely unacceptable. I am happy with the RD itself (Max 360 MkII) but Im just losing faith and having no PSL (from their dogcrap worthless apps) which is an advertised feature that I paid for, is unsat. How is/are the Uniden, etc apps with PSL, community alerts, ease of use, etc? Is the RD easy to learn? Do you like the alert tones/sounds? I also like how quiet Escorts are, as I dont drive a sports car and am not a "serious" speeder. I dont want a bunch of BSM, etc falses.
Seriously unimpressive work by Escort here, but unfortunately that's par for the course as of recent. But it's a double-edged sword. Recommend Uniden or V1 too much and people want to know why you don't recommend escort, rag on escort because they don't fix their detectors, and people call you a Uniden or V1 Fanboy. At the end of the day, we don't recommend escort because escort doesn't work, not that we're biased. If we're paying top dollar for a detector, it should perform like a top dollar detector.

As an R8 owner, I'd love to see a comparison of the R8 on current firmware against the V1 gen 2 on current firmware. Escorts are completely out of the running for me.

I first liked the Escort but as time went on, I began to see late alerts where I was on top of the cop before it went off or no alerts, so I compared the Uniden and Escort side by side (yes, I know they can false each other) and had several late alerts on the Escort when the Uniden alerted way earlier. I realized I should have bought a second R8 for the other car. Heck even my old R4 without arrows seems to outperform the more expensive redline. It is really important to research before you buy and don't listen to a salesman.
I live in NYC and the NYPD HWP has been ramping up patrols quite a lot lately. I typically don't speed much however we have a criminally low 50mph highway speed limit. I decided that getting a detector is a bit of insurance (hopefully). I spent the past few weeks watching tons of your videos and went through tons of threads on the forums. I really wanted a V1G2 but didn't want to be constantly tethered to an app for the best functionality. In the end I went for the R8. Snagged one from Best Buy as they matched the Amazon Prime deal last week. I've had it in the car for 3 days now. I'm quite shocked how well it functions. I set it up to your recommendation and tweaked a few things. No BSM faults. And I have a brand new Mazda. The auto mute works amazing. Updated to the latest firmware last night. This morning it saved my bacon. I was entering an on-ramp at a brisk pace as one does in a Miata at 6am. I got a moving KA hit hard. Sloww.. 2 NYPD HWP at the same time. One actively pulling someone over directly next to me as I entered the highway and one 500ft ahead. This thing just paid for itself. Thanks man for all the extensive info and testing.
The V1G2 is straight trash. No real world video/saves of it working as great as something like a Uniden. Just a bunch of V1g2 fangirls in a circl3 J3rk saying how good it is, without backing it in the real world. 😂🤡
I have had R4 and very impressed just bought the V1gen2 and just as impressed with it. it’s just a hobby to me. The info you get from the apps is awsome

What people don't understand is that many gun manufacturers use automated instant on timing, which can be as low as a half second burst. This will allow an officer to get reading without any warning at the detector. I believe escort reduction of false alarms was simply done by slowing down their reaction times, at the users expense.
I would like to know when comparing the escort red line 360C to the uniden R8/R9, just how big a gap is there between performance ? if you had to rate both units from 1 to 10, how would they score ? are they a mile apart, or closer than you might think🤔
Prices on some of the detectors are getting out of hand. Still enjoy my V1. Another idea is watch your speed, maybe I am getting to old to drive like a bat out of hell.😊

I agree, I was driving down I75 North in Michigan today and police were using some type of hand held gun it wasn't Laser, I don't think although I could be wrong.. but the detector never alerted... and I updated 3 days ago..
Escort is junk. I travel the country and have been running radar detectors for 20 years and have never received a ticket. Decided to try Escort over my R8 and got pulled over for the first time ever totally due to the delay. Additionally, the unit constantly locks up or the audio decides not to work. So I have to babysit it by always checking to see if the scanning bar is moving and bumping the volume occasionally. Reboots fix it. Absolutely unacceptable and ridiculous! I tried two different units. Also get a ton of false Ka alerts, but none with the R8 in the same areas. Running two R8s, two R4s and one R7 across my vehicle fleet. Never an issue with Uniden. Very dependable and the ramp ups are excellent. We have to be able to depend on these things and I can 100% confirm you CANNOT trust Escort… Threw the Escort in the trash where it belongs. I still have my original 20yo detector that works better than this new Escort, no joke. Have run Valentines too and would put them second to the Unidens.
I understand the need for filtering with all of the BSM out there but we should be IMPROVING! My old OG redline in the closet could catch .2 second shots all day long and yet here we are dealing with this on far more advanced detectors with much faster processors. I’ll just keep rocking my ALP with the netradar DSP. It’s still serving me well so far
Can you retest the Uniden R4? I feel like my R4 actually isn't as responsive as my almost 7 year old DFR7. I've been meaning to throw them up side by side on my windshield, but haven't gotten around to it. I do have some mildly challenging terrain in Northern KY, but it's not THAT challenging. Now granted.... KSP in Northern KY love the instant on game, which is the whole reason I bought the R4. But all the time I feel like my DFR7 did a better job. And oddly enough, those same KSP officers love to use KA POP. According to the R4 anyways. I did swap from KA narrow to segmentation, but living in one state and working in another, means there's only 2 segments I DON'T use. However, I did see a marginal bump in performance on the KA band, but it really wasn't much. That being said, I really do love my R4 with all the features it has. K band falses really aren't much of a thing for me with the R4, and most Sherriff's in my area use K band. So that's really saying something.
I've just purchased RL360c international version, and still have 3 other cars need devices,do you recommend to buy same or wait for an Escort new release probably ? Many thanks

Yeah I’ll run some other detectors next time. I ran out of cameras lol. These types of tests are very tedious to process behind the scenes. I was coming through bend oregon last weekend with my redline 360 c last weekend. I have it set to highway but anyway I passed a cop on the oncoming lane and I was surprised my detector wasn't going off because there was two cops one in northbound and one in southbound lanes about 500 yards apart from eachother and my alarm wasn't going off at all. As I was heading south I decided to slow down just in case and what's crazy is there was a cop and he had his radar looking gun out the window and on his window sill and shooting my way and the detector was silent the whole time. I'm wondering if ya could help me with my settings maybe it's an error on my end but I thought I set it to your recommended settings when I got it. But now that I see this video I'm curious now.
Chances are they were running instant on or laser. It's very common with a variety of detectors to pass by officers without getting an alert, especially given that these are radar detectors and not police car detectors.
How do you think that Cobra rad 700i would compare up to these results. Because I know I got the Cobra rad 700I, and when I'm driving around, it seems to be pretty quiet and when it goes off, it seems to pick up the cops very quickly. And I normally get pretty good range out of it.
And I forgot to mention I figured there would be more test results with this type of radar detector because didn't escort go in with Cobra when they made this so. Technically, it's somewhat considered an escort detector.
Uniden needs to be put in the hot seat as well for releasing 1.51 and 1.34, which both have the GPS bug that 1.47 had. Those idiots didn't listen to Mithheru!
Am I understanding this right. When creating a profile for the V1G2. Just because I do "2,4,5,6,8" it doesn't improve performance as the unit still scans all frequencies? It just only alerts to frequencies within the custom "sweeps"? If so there's not much point in creating the profile as there are very few KA falses (where I live anyways)
Just got my second Escort, this time the 360C. The cord rubber started disintegrating after only one use (~5hr drive). Now the detector stopped booting up. Was told via chat to press the SRC button a bunch upon initial startup but did not solve problem. Guess i need to return it.. Shipping is so slow from them, as my new cord took 2+ weeks to receive. Super frustrating.
Definitely felt like i got bit in the a$$ for trying something new with the Redline (had the V1G1 for 10yrs prior). Wish I just went with the V1G2. Thanks for all your testing. I hope Escort will respond to this. Embarrasing for a flagship detector.
I had the older redline escort and it was a great detector..!!! Until it just stopped working.!!! Then I bought the new redline 360c and it lets me know when there’s a Photo speed camera… but I don’t know if I don’t have it set up correctly but it doesn’t seem to inform me of any Radars at all… it seems to flash its warning lights but I’ve yet to hear it give me a Warning Signal….
When stuff like this happens I always wonder how the product gets through the software/integration testing before being released - surely some product lead/manager had to have signed off that testing completed satisfactorily and it's ready for release, right? This update's gross performance screams that the testing was possibly limited to "does the firmware still boot up?"
The only Escort that was worth a darn was the one Mike helped develop when he was at Cincinnati Microwave. The others have been chasing V1 quality and reliability. Those of you remember the old Fuzzbuster, I guess I am telling my age 😅.
Id love to see escort's development and QA testing cycle, all that PE money backing and they continue to be less than mediocre yet asking for high quality pricing...they haven't made anything confidently sustainable from a software and hardware standpoint since the OG Redline....i dont think they ever will
I have a Max 360C MkII, and I've had a lot of problems having it "mute" K bands. That thing where it shows K band and it's strength, but it's grayed out and silent. It's a bit of a problem for me because the local PD in my town run K, and the Sheriff's and Troopers run KA.
Those are the GPS lockouts. It’s supposed to do that for fixed stationary false alerts from speed signs and door openers while still alerting to new moving signals like police officers.
@@VortexRadar Oh yeah, that's right. It's still surprising that it locks out those alerts when the police are stationary. I try to manually "unlock" it, but that doesn't seem to always work.
Escort always have been a problem. They expect you to pay a premium Price. And they give you Junk. 900.00 wasted. Never buy from them anymore. I don't..
Classic Escort performance! Lots of $$$ not a lot of performance. Unfortunately Escort is one of those brands where if you don't know about detectors you'd think there good. i have purchased a R8, V1G2, and a Radenso DS1 based off your tests. Never will Escort get another dollar from me after all the tickets i got from their slow detectors.
Escort has a habit of the "all or nothing" detection behavior WAY back to the Original Max. I have the Max 360 MKII and it's more of the same, Uniden and Valentine have ramp up that is light years better than Escort.
An escort radar detector that costs twice as much or 10x as much as my max 3 and radar detector enthusiasts are posting results that are a literal insult to the industry. I'll stick to my max 3 thank you very much
Escort hasnt been good since the advent of the Max. Still boggles my mind that Escort put a sub par antenna with their first digital rd. Should've stuck the M3 platform. Id love to see a new S7+ rd down the line.
Great info. I've been running Escort detectors since the original. Been happy with my Max 360C for several years. I was about to order a new Redline. I'll wait until you do some additional testing.
High Priced Garbage. The original Redline I owned back in the day was pretty good for the era. Returned the next gen Redline. Bought a R7 and DS1 and never looked back. To this day I always get a good chuckle when I see Escort pricing.
My detector performance got worse. I tested 35.5Ka and seen no improvement. I tested 34.7KA and found it would no longer react to instant on. Before I could pickup the computer assit short burst. My Redline would show 1 bar and a short chirp. Now nothing. If Escort doesn't fix this soon, I'm going to use the R8 full time.
I have the V1G2 and the RL360C. I've been using the V1G2 even though I find the settings confusing. Better mounts and lighter. The only thing I dislike is having to use a smartphone with it. It's ridiculous in this day and age. Annoying.
I just got hit last week with my redline 360c and I’m pissed, It didn’t even light up until I blew past the state trooper. I got hit for going 10 over. its going back for a refund

My redline 360c is having major false alerts since the update. It was way better before the update.

I agree with you! Every time my redline 360c gets an update, it gets worst.
It’s been less than 30 days since I’ve had my redline 360c and I think I’m gunna get the refund from them my og redline from the stone ages was more responsive just with more falses. So what’s the best now for average consumer the R8 ?

I was coming through bend oregon last weekend with my redline 360 c last weekend. I have it set to highway but anyway I passed a cop on the oncoming lane and I was surprised my detector wasn't going off because there was two cops one in northbound and one in southbound lanes about 500 yards apart from eachother and my alarm wasn't going off at all. As I was heading south I decided to slow down just in case and what's crazy is there was a cop and he had his radar looking gun out the window and on his window sill and shooting my way and the detector was silent the whole time. I'm wondering if ya could help me with my settings maybe it's an error on my end but I thought I set it to your recommended settings when I got it. But now that I see this video I'm curious now.
Chances are they were running instant on or laser. It's very common with a variety of detectors to pass by officers without getting an alert, especially given that these are radar detectors and not police car detectors.
That just happened to me today on I75 North in Michigan
How do you think that Cobra rad 700i would compare up to these results. Because I know I got the Cobra rad 700I, and when I'm driving around, it seems to be pretty quiet and when it goes off, it seems to pick up the cops very quickly.
And I normally get pretty good range out of it.
And I forgot to mention I figured there would be more test results with this type of radar detector because didn't escort go in with Cobra when they made this so. Technically, it's somewhat considered an escort detector.
Uniden needs to be put in the hot seat as well for releasing 1.51 and 1.34, which both have the GPS bug that 1.47 had. Those idiots didn't listen to Mithheru!
Am I understanding this right. When creating a profile for the V1G2. Just because I do "2,4,5,6,8" it doesn't improve performance as the unit still scans all frequencies? It just only alerts to frequencies within the custom "sweeps"?
If so there's not much point in creating the profile as there are very few KA falses (where I live anyways)
Right on the Gen 2 it’s just for knocking out false alerts. There’s no performance difference.
Just got my second Escort, this time the 360C. The cord rubber started disintegrating after only one use (~5hr drive). Now the detector stopped booting up. Was told via chat to press the SRC button a bunch upon initial startup but did not solve problem. Guess i need to return it.. Shipping is so slow from them, as my new cord took 2+ weeks to receive. Super frustrating.
Definitely felt like i got bit in the a$$ for trying something new with the Redline (had the V1G1 for 10yrs prior). Wish I just went with the V1G2. Thanks for all your testing. I hope Escort will respond to this. Embarrasing for a flagship detector.
I had the older redline escort and it was a great detector..!!! Until it just stopped working.!!! Then I bought the new redline 360c and it lets me know when there’s a Photo speed camera… but I don’t know if I don’t have it set up correctly but it doesn’t seem to inform me of any Radars at all… it seems to flash its warning lights but I’ve yet to hear it give me a Warning Signal….
Go ahead and say it the V1gen2 with latest update is a beast
I feel like my Redline was running smoother and quitter before the update. But I've only had it for like 2 months.

When stuff like this happens I always wonder how the product gets through the software/integration testing before being released - surely some product lead/manager had to have signed off that testing completed satisfactorily and it's ready for release, right? This update's gross performance screams that the testing was possibly limited to "does the firmware still boot up?"

The only Escort that was worth a darn was the one Mike helped develop when he was at Cincinnati Microwave. The others have been chasing V1 quality and reliability. Those of you remember the old Fuzzbuster, I guess I am telling my age 😅.
Id love to see escort's development and QA testing cycle, all that PE money backing and they continue to be less than mediocre yet asking for high quality pricing...they haven't made anything confidently sustainable from a software and hardware standpoint since the OG Redline....i dont think they ever will

I have a Max 360C MkII, and I've had a lot of problems having it "mute" K bands. That thing where it shows K band and it's strength, but it's grayed out and silent. It's a bit of a problem for me because the local PD in my town run K, and the Sheriff's and Troopers run KA.
Those are the GPS lockouts. It’s supposed to do that for fixed stationary false alerts from speed signs and door openers while still alerting to new moving signals like police officers.
@@VortexRadar Oh yeah, that's right. It's still surprising that it locks out those alerts when the police are stationary. I try to manually "unlock" it, but that doesn't seem to always work.

It works well as a Ka only detector. No BSM filtering, lockouts, or photo radar detection.
Escort always have been a problem. They expect you to pay a premium Price. And they give you Junk. 900.00 wasted. Never buy from them anymore. I don't..

Classic Escort performance! Lots of $$$ not a lot of performance. Unfortunately Escort is one of those brands where if you don't know about detectors you'd think there good. i have purchased a R8, V1G2, and a Radenso DS1 based off your tests. Never will Escort get another dollar from me after all the tickets i got from their slow detectors.
Escort has a habit of the "all or nothing" detection behavior WAY back to the Original Max. I have the Max 360 MKII and it's more of the same, Uniden and Valentine have ramp up that is light years better than Escort.

An escort radar detector that costs twice as much or 10x as much as my max 3 and radar detector enthusiasts are posting results that are a literal insult to the industry. I'll stick to my max 3 thank you very much
Escort hasnt been good since the advent of the Max. Still boggles my mind that Escort put a sub par antenna with their first digital rd. Should've stuck the M3 platform.

Great info. I've been running Escort detectors since the original. Been happy with my Max 360C for several years. I was about to order a new Redline. I'll wait until you do some additional testing.

My detector performance got worse. I tested 35.5Ka and seen no improvement. I tested 34.7KA and found it would no longer react to instant on. Before I could pickup the computer assit short burst. My Redline would show 1 bar and a short chirp. Now nothing. If Escort doesn't fix this soon, I'm going to use the R8 full time.
Yikes, that’s not good. It should alert to 34.7. Are you sure you’re not overdriving the detector by chance?
No. I have the detector 500ft from the car with the Stalker DSR 2X. I give 2 minutes between each shots. This gives the Redline time to cycle.
I have the V1G2 and the RL360C. I've been using the V1G2 even though I find the settings confusing. Better mounts and lighter. The only thing I dislike is having to use a smartphone with it. It's ridiculous in this day and age. Annoying.

That would be patent infringement and would end in a lawsuit. Also if uniden copied from escort then wouldn't their product be performing as badly as escorts is?
