The way you are teaching your daughters to “think through” the ingredients available and how to make a meal is invaluable in their lives. People have forgotten these life skills and fix boxed and semi prepared food and think it’s from scratch. You are amazing Lisa.

Agreed T G, I’m 52, I grew up very poor…..give me 5 ingredients and a few spices, I can make you a masterpiece in the kitchen.
Growing up not only on my grandparents farm (as an older child) but very poor before that….. made me very creative, I learned to not only use seasonal ingredients…. But to use what you have….”buy what you use, use what you’ve got”….
Sometimes in the kitchen, you use what you’ve got on hand, instead of “what sounds good”…. But it always turns out lovely 💕❤️🙏🏼
Much Love to all from Oregon 🌲🌲❤️

Agreed! Those skills are something that need honing in all young people! Unless you get in the kitchen and help them see that there is something to eat even from only a few ingredients they never learn that resourcefulness and creativity. So much goes to waste because we can't see it for what it can become, like reading a book based on it's cover only!

God called me to a different path when I prayed for healing, and you have been part of that path, Lisa! I have seven children and when I set a meal on the table, sometimes they’ll ask, “Is this recipe from that mom on UA-cam?” 😀 What a huge part of our lives you are; both food wise and economically. On those mornings in which you wake up and are just tired of the commitment you feel you’ve made to UA-cam, just remember: God has used you. You have glorified Him and have served Him, and until He calls you to something else, He is your strength and will continue to equip you for this ministry! Thanks again! Always enjoy your videos. God bless your precious family!

Really enjoyed this video. I used to challenge myself to see how long I could go without going to the grocery store. I was at 6 weeks and wanted to try to squeeze one more week into the wait. After that decision, the very next morning I felt a very strong urge to go grocery shopping at 7 a.m. I never shop that early...and I'd decided not to for another week...to use up all the dibs and dabs in the pantry...to clear it out. So, I didn't go shopping that day. By 9 a.m. there was a huge ice storm over the whole area...so much so that all public transportation was shut down...no cabs, no buses,no metro, because not all the subway tracks are underground. Delivery trucks couldn't get to stores to restock them. This was bad! It lasted 3 weeks. The only thing that saved me was a tiny little market I could easily walk to. Their costs were about 3 times that of regular grocery stores, and they couldn't get stock delivered. They were running out of food. It was a scary time...difficult. I waited just a bit too long. Now I actually can and do wait longer, but I never let my stock get so low that I might run out of food in a week.
Looks to me that you handled not grocery shopping really well! It's good to see your daughter learning how to cook.

Lisa, this was one of your BEST videos! A lot of people would say..."I wish I could do that, but...". They use excuses that they can't because they don't have chickens, a dairy cow, a garden, etc., but it all begins with a will to do a better job of planning meals, shopping for basics, and a desire to get off of the premade meals, eating out, etc. You shared so many valuable lessons in this one short video. Thank you!

I know…weird!) I don’t have chickens/ cows but I may have an abundance of other things and it’s funny what you can come up with if you really put your mind to it! Once when I was stumped I found an app that lets you put in the ingredients you have and recipes will pop up using those ingredients. Love that you teach your daughters to think this way! Also, can I commend you on making healthy meals that are wholesome for you and your family and not making it so overly “crunchy” where every single item has to be organic. That is refreshing and attainable for most people, ie me. I use a lot of my own produce when in season, buy mostly organically grown or local, but also have a can of Prego in my pantry because I got a stellar deal on it 🤣.

There’s no way I could.” To which I replied/questioned, “Do you all make spaghetti, roast, baked potatoes, etc. in the summer, or do you eat everything at room temperature or straight out of the fridge or freezer?” Of course their responses were all “no, why?”….Why do people think soup is a sin in the summer and other warm meals are just fine? Keeping potatoes in the fridge turns their starch into sugar and leads to higher levels of a chemical called acrylamide. It doesn't prolong their shelf life, either.

We have to keep the potatoes in the fridge with the weather being so hot. they were rotting before I could get to them. That's non gmo potatoes. The gmo potatoes last longer in the heat but, I don't buy gmo anything.

In the summer time I have to keep them in the fridge. They will go bad extremely quickly on the counter. To each their own

Doesn’t starch ultimately metabolize into sugar anyways?

I live in an A rated home with a south facing kitchen. They get eyes and start to sprout after two or three days on the counter/in a press. The fridge extends their life so that we actually get to use them before they go bad. Not everyone has an ideal cool place to keep potatoes.

I've never that it was bad to keep them in the fridge, but I HAVE heard, that cooking them and then letting them sit in the fridge overnight will turn the starch into inulin which is excellent for gut microbiome😊

Once again, I enjoyed your content. I'm now headed to my kitchen to see what I have and created some meals without going to the store today.
    As always, thanks for sharing.

Lisa, I rarely make a trip to the grocery store, and so this type of video is "just right" for me. My husband has that app and he loves it.

I love your videos-I especially loved that Johanna (not sure if I spelled that correctly?) took down a cutting board and just joined in with you, cutting up potatoes for the soup. Thank you for sharing such wonderful moments of your life with the rest of us!
