Lisa, I've been a fan/subscriber for about 2 years now, and I just stumbled upon this video.....I'm a MEGA FAN of you and just LOOOOOOOVED THIS VIDEO. You continue to amaze and delight me with your charm, creativity, and warmth. What a sweet hostess you are. I'm 65 years young, single and no kids, and you've shown another side of life that's so beautiful ❤❤❤❤❤❤
"I get more cleaning done in the ten minutes before someone comes over than I do all week" ..reminded me of this. Haha..I've heard it called "social-grease" ..a great motivator. :)
Yep! I am a procrastinator who needs a deadline. Having guests over is the only thing that keeps our house clean. Not because I like to show off, I just need a push. I like the phrase social grease.
Lisa, you make me feel inadequate in so many ways! I love going on your shopping trips with you, watching you cook, paint & change all the bedding plus hemming the curtains? Really? I feel about an inch high! (Only joking, but I do admire you so much.) my house was never as beautiful as yours, tho I had no children. What I did have was students! Coming out of my ears, so I usually arrived home looking like a Bosnian bag lady I once saw on tv. I taught English Literature, & changed up my books every two years, tops, cos if I’m bored, my students will be bored, right? So most of my house was filled with folders, photocopying, books, of course, then I had my two step kids at weekend, tiny flat, no room to clean! So I learned not to see the spider webs on the ceiling & the skirting boards …and most of what was in the middle. I admire you tremendously!
It’s so refreshing to see the reality of nicks and scratches that come with living in a home. I’m a first time home owner and have sometimes felt overwhelmed by the natural wear and tear that happens. It’s encouraging to see that a bit of elbow grease and love and attention is all you need to keep a home fresh! Thanks for the reminder!
I decided this Christmas to gift our ( very adult) children this bedding. I think a luxury set of sheets, etc, is a gift they would never purchase for themselves.
@@chrissiewindsor Haha...my two are in their early 40's...but they still could not /would not get luxury bedding. My dad grew up VERY POOR, and to him, good food and a good night's sleep were VERY important. It gets hard to shop fo these two, so I think the bedding will be good.
Room darkening inexpensive old school shades like your great grandma used will help DRASTICALLY with keeping the temp down on hot summer days. They knew how to keep the house cool and dark to prevent all that sunlight from heating up the house.
I thought I may be the only person that hems curtains when they are already hung on the window. You make me feel so much better about the 'shortcuts' I make.
Aww! What a sweet time with your friends!, I would’ve done the same thing as you and spruce up the place. That’s just what women do when having friends over. I had 5 children and trying to get ready for my family to visit from California and I live in Florida. I wanted my house to look nice and fresh, too! It’s difficult when my husband was out to sea but I made it happen:). It was a great time. God bless you and your beautiful family. 🙏💕🏆👏
Every time i see Ruth i remember the first time i found your channel, it was her birthday and she was so sweet and generous with her siblings! And her present was a bundle of fabric! All your kiddos are amazing but she's so special
You are the busiest woman I have ever seen!! It does make me feel better that I'm not the only one who is constantly doing upkeep!! Thanks for taking us along
Fellow DIYer here, I would totally buy those curtains and just sew in a 16” panel. You can buy an extra set or I would probably go to the fabric store and just buy a solid color in a similar weight and color block it. Just a thought. I did the opposite in our travel trailer. Instead of ordering custom short curtains for the windows in there I bought pre-made blackout curtains from Walmart cut them and hemmed them. I saved so much money doing that vs. buying custom trailer curtains.
I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets motivated from guests coming to get after some things that seem to linger . . . . everthing looks great and I'm glad you got a chance to spend some time with this terrific group of ladies. I love you all. You inspire me.
Great video. I think we are all the same. We go on with our daily life not really noticing the little things. BUT then we realize that friends are coming & we notice all those little things that we think we should of done but had other things to do instead. You have a lovely, warm & welcoming home. I'm sure everyone had a great time.
I’m an empty nester and an early widow, and I’m perpetually finding things around my 101 y/o English cottage (in L.A.) that need to be fixed or replaced. It’s a never-ending chase keeping up with a house! 😂
Love guests for motivation to do things you want done anyway. Everything looked fresh and nice. You are all adorable, and your gathering looked like such fun!
Isn't it true that company or having a party is such a great motivator!! And once we get those in house, maintenance projects done, we ask ourselves "why didn't I get those things done before".....it's a wonderful feeling to accomplish so much!! You are such a go-getter....and with a child on your backside!! Thank you for sharing your home and family. You always inspire me to do more!!
Lisa I’m just noticing that you are ambidextrous!! Your baby Theo is getting bigger and he’s a beauty! Your home is so beautiful and homey. Blessings to you all from Ireland 🇮🇪❤️🙏
Man! You work so hard! It’s beautiful the passion you put into your friends coming. What a blessing you are to us and them! You are so beautiful and inspiring! 🤗😇
I just love how you value beautiful things and then you spread beauty and comfort to your friends and family 💕 it’s soooo worth all that effort, rewarding work!
We're having guests this weekend and a family reunion here tomorrow! We call it the "Family Shindig" lol. But yes lot of last minute projects going on here today!
This was such a fun video to watch!! I love how carefree you are with the camera and what you film and how you film! So inspiring! And it looks like you girls had a blast together! Did you have any learning time during the retreat or was it all for fellowship and enjoyment with each other? I would love to do something like this with my blogging buddies!
Having visitors over is the greatest motivator in getting cleaning done. Love your videos…… well done….enjoy your family ……all to soon they will be grown up and gone to do their own thing………🥰🥰
And wouldn’t you know….all of my favorite bloggers in one place! What a fun retreat! And thanks for the inspiration to touch up my baseboards and moldings in my house that I’ve been procrastinating! Your house looks better and better all the time Lisa! ❤️🌻
Great work getting ready for your guests and it looked like you had a really fun time together. There’s nothing like having friend time to lift the spirits! I know you probably couldn’t care less, but in case you want to know, Magic erasers have ground up melamine in them and they scratch surfaces. In case you’re thinking about using one on something you don’t want to be scratched. Baking soda on a wet rag works pretty well on most things.
Also, I love these casual videos.....and, I cannot believe just how much you can get done in one day!! You amaze me! P.S. Your grass looks gorgeous!! I am loving everything about your front yard..... looking so beautiful this summer, as always!
Look at you in your jeans and tank! You look cute 🥰 my son said “what is she doing?”(when you were painting) and I said “being a good homemaker”🥰 you are always so inspiring!
Lisa I’ve used drop clothes from home depo for my odd sized windows and attach them with ring clips! They have a linen look which I love! And many people have ask where I purchased our curtains from!😂 Budget friendly also! Love your channel!
It’s funny when one starts touch up painting, it always leads to painting just about everything!! You look like you had a great time with your friends!!!
My husband & I entertain a lot and have overnight night guests often. It forces us to keep things tidy, up kept and as sparkling as possible. While it is a lot of work it is so worth it. I love a clean tidy house that doesn't suffer from deferred maintenance. You are always an inspiration when it comes to paying attention to surroundings. Oh!!! check out IKEA for longer length curtain panels, they truly have great panels. I live in a victorian with super high ceilings and everyone thinks all our panels are custom.
FYI you always have to wash new towels /linens/whatever because of the sizing. They will not absorb water to dry anything. I saw one recommendation to wash a new towel 6 times.

Hey Lisa, I just ordered some curtains from target that were 108 inches long because I have Cathedral ceilings. They have a pretty good selection that I believe would fit your design well. Check them out. They are also blackout curtains which really helps keep cool air or heat in. ❤️😃😃❤️

Hey if it works!
Everybody's on board helping get ready! Nice

Seeing wear and tear makes me feel a lot better about my house with 4 kids.
Its worth all the hard work having such lovely kids as you do.....Micah is a star😊

You should try a lacquer on the cabinets. Usually that’s how they finish cabinets. Much more durable than latex.

Knowing that you sew you could just add a panel addition to the bottom of the curtains to make your ideal length.
