    This is coming from a fellow tour leader colleague: thank you for this video with all the informations a normal human being would not even think of but a guide knows are essential! We are a unique species of human beings and only the ones working in this occupation know what I mean by that 😄

    I watched your video about a week ago and went on the tour yesterday. A few clarifications and comments: as everyone seems confused they can't go up in the crown, I figured out what is causing this confusion. The site implies that the hard hat tour includes the crown, but it does not. What is not written or said anywhere is that you have to purchase multiple tickets per person if you want to see everything. They leave it implied for you to figure out, then when everyone gets to the pedestal, you can stand there and watch them find out one after another they thought they could go up but can't. For example, if you want crown and hard hat, you will be purchasing two tickets for yourself. Next, the stairs are only a good bypass from the elevator if the elevator line is excessive - all the way outside. The pedestal stairs alone were something like 150 steps, which some people will think is not a big deal, but you have to factor in that you have people moving both in front and behind you with no air conditioning, so you can't necessarily stop between flights of stairs to take a break and could be forced to do this at a certain pace. I realized I should have brought my inhaler. Then, after those pedestal steps, there are more steps if you figured out how to purchase a crown access ticket. Another thing not being said is which ferry to take to where. Everyone assumed you have to go in order to the statue first, then Ellis, but when you get to Ellis you see there is a sign to get in line to the statue. The reason this matters is because, with everyone wanting to return to Manhattan around the same time, there is a significantly long line in direct sunlight with nowhere to sit, and you don't realize you may be waiting in that line for 3 or more boats at 30 minutes apart (wasting 1.5 hours or more of your vacation) just to get back to Manhattan because people are coming on those boats from the statue and not all getting off at Ellis, so very few people are able to get on the last boats back to Manhattan at a time. People in line were miserable and complaining. What you also don't see in this video is staff monitoring and directing the lines are creating a mood kill experience at every juncture all day long day after day, yelling at people to fill in empty space, not go single file, etc. One worker shouted at someone to stop doing something or other and angrily told him, "Don't tempt me!" All the boats rock side to side dramatically, unlike any of the other boats in the harbor, and we saw one lady get sea sick. And, on the return walk from the hard hat tour, the park service doesn't maintain the lawns around the hospitals, so there is a severe mosquito infestation the guide makes you stand in the middle of as she talks about the buildings. I was bit over thirty times. You go through an infectious disease hospital, then wonder if you picked one up yourself on the way back with all these bites. As far as the cafeteria food being "not that bad," it's subjective. To a New Yorker, that is clearly not pizza and is disgusting. If you're coming from Nebraska, maybe you won't notice anything about the food. This is a tour you only want to take if you're determined to get up close to the statue and be in the Ellis Island building, but it's not a tour you want to take if you are expecting a well executed experience intended to delight you for hours. Megan probably makes up for that, and it's not her fault what is going on out of her control, but the constant mood kills are not shown in this video, and for those who do care about their experience, you may just want to ride the free Staten Island Ferry to see the statue from the harbor and leave it at that. People everywhere in lines were talking to each other as strangers about their advice about how to fix their execution nightmare.

      this!!!! I took this city cruise a few weeks ago and it was HORRIBLE. Easily the worst experience of our trip being packed like sardines in the scorching sun with zero shade. My family and I waited almost two hours in the hot sun to get on the ferry to Liberty Island from Battery Park. And we mistakenly got off at Ellis Island and had to wait 90 minutes in the hot sun to get back to Battery Park. It was a terrible experience and there's thousands of negative reviews on Google with the same complaint. The company doesn't seem to care, they're not replying to any negative reviews and they clearly only care about over-selling tickets and making money.
      Next time would definitely opt for the free Staten Island Ferry.

    I just got back from NYC and going to the Statue of Liberty was first on our itinerary. Thank you so much Megan for your helpful hints that you mentioned in this video from navigating the airport type security, to maneuvering the line of people getting onto the ferry, to where to stand on the ferry, to where to find the lockers for your backpack, purses, to where the bathrooms are on the island and so many more helpful hints!! It made our visit to the Statue of Liberty
    seamless. We enjoyed our visit there so much!I’m so glad I found this video. Thank you!!

I personally find it informative; for example, where to find the security line at Battery Park, where to find the best spots on the ferries and when to exit, where to find the lockers on Liberty Island and how to use them, and which floor at the pedestal that will lead you to the Fort Wood. Thank you for doing this for us. I felt like I just did a private tour of the Statue of Liberty with you! Cheers

    Such a great video Megan, and you answered my questions in the video😊 I wanted to know if doing the liberty island tour with crown&pedestal visit AND stopping at Ellis Island would be a full or half day but I guess I'm looking at best part of a full day.
    I'm visiting NYC for 5 days from the UK in September, I know what I want to see but am trying to put together an itinerary of things to do together and try be as planned as I can, so seeing this video i think a statue of liberty trip is looking like a full day thing...so I might look at doing an observation deck in the evening for a night time view. Or is there anything else you'd suggest I could have time to do in the same day as this trip???
    I'm also wanting to visit coney island (BIG Warriors fan), could I do that as a half day visit? so I could do something else the same day?

    • @TheMeganDaily
      @TheMeganDaily  11 місяців тому +2

      I think you could definitely do the crown and Ellis Island. Just make sure you leave at 4 hours to your itinerary. I’m a super immigration history nerd…so I can spend alllll day on Ellis and leave at 5pm, but most guests spend about an hour.
      One World Observatory is super Close, so you could definitely do that after, and maybe even get dinner at their restaurant?

    Hi Megan. thanks for your video, it's very useful, but I have a few questions.
    I bought a crown reserve ticket for september, but I didn't get a QR code. I only have an email with a confirmation number. If i go to the ticket booth in castle clinton, will they be able to confirm my purchase and give me my actual ticket and wristband based on this email and confirmation number only?
    And also, my crown ticket is for 10am. It says it's the time I "enter the security facility". Is this the security check in battery park? Or the one on liberty island? I have no idea how long in advance I should be at castle clinton and where exactly I have to be at 10am. How crowdy is mid-september? Is it peak season?
    Thanks

      Ellis.

    How long does it all take from getting on the ferry to getting up to the crown and down? I’ve booked for 1pm

      To be honest, they're really not that strict about times. The actual ferry ride is only about ten minutes long, and you can probably beeline and be in crown/pedestal security in ten minutes after that. However, security lines and crowds and boat schedules always throw off even the most experienced Statue of Liberty goer, hence the leniency with times!:)

    if my ticket time says 9 am do I have to show up at that time or anytime afterwards?

      It has been my experience no one has ever checked the actual ticket times, though you never know if they will start. Technically that is your time to enter the line for the security tent.

    Please this is open to everyone to answer if you know: I booked a ticket for 11am. My friend was to do this too but delayed now that is closed. Theres however 12noon. Is it possible for me to wait for her after my security check and we can board a boat together once shes done with her security check by 12noon? Or I have to board the ferry at my specified 11am time?

      The times really don’t matter. Just get the same date. I have never once seen them even look at the times.

    Where do you park if you have a car?

    • @TheMeganDaily
      @TheMeganDaily  Рік тому

      You can’t drive to Liberty island. There is a parking space in Liberty NJ where you pick up the ferries. If you’re picking up the ferry in Manhattan, you just have to play the I hope a find a place to park game, be it on the street or in a parking garage, and I wish you the best of luck.

      I’ve never driven in Manhattan, but my guess if you might be able to google parking garages near Battery Park, NYC.

    So we're all going to pretend that this scumbag didn't just blow past the line at 10:05 ?? Disrespecting the dozens of people who lined up and waited their turn? What a trash move. SMH. Some people have no shame.

      Lololol. Did you not hear the statue cruises worker saying there is no line to just move ahead. There is actually a good reason for this. If everyone forms a single file line, the line backs up into the security tent and everything slows down. Additionally, boardinf the boat slows down. This method is 2 people per second. The statue cruises employees tell everyone to clump ahead and move forward constantly, and whether or not they listen is up to them. But to be honest, it’s those who do NOT move forward that are not following procedure and holding up the line.
