    This was interesting! Did you know that almost every Swedish immigrant ”landed” on Ellis Island when they went to the States in hope for a better life! Some made it and some died! It’s a historic place for us swedes! Thank’s for taking us here! TC! 🖐

      And ended up in Minnesota? Is that because it's cold as Sweden? Lots of farming out there. Back in those days there were no passports. Just show with papers and hopefully one gets lucky and allowed into the country. If not then we understand why Ellis Island was called "the Island of tears."

  • @sophistichistory4645
    @sophistichistory4645 2 роки тому

    The museum should add an exhibit showing the statue in popular culture.
    They could show clips of movies that feature this American symbol, such as.....
    "Saboteur".....classic Hitchcock climax scene
    "The Godfather Part II"......seen through the eyes of a ten year old immigrant Vito Corleone
    "Independence Day"......aliens knock it over
    "Cloverfield"........the head gets ripped off
    And, of course, the most iconic movie scene of this iconic statue....
    "Planet of the Apes".....half buried in the sand.
    "YOU MANIACS!!! YOU BLEW IT UP!!! AH, DAMN YOU!!! GOD DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!"

    I recently learned that the Statue of Liberty was a black woman when it was first gifted to America and white Americans did not to have a black woman to be there. So it was painted green France wanted it to be a black woman to represent the slavery that was done in America. The whole statue was painted green but if u look close down at the feet u will see the chains around the ankle that’s one thing that could not be changed. The chains was to represent the chains that was put on the slaves to show how they were treated. America didn’t want people to know the truth about how bad it was for the slaves and wanted the treatment to be hidden just like it is hidden in the history books. White American cannot hide it from a lot of black peoples who know the full truth about slavery. Our ancestors didn’t ask to be taken away from their homeland to have so many terrible things to happen to them it wasn’t just the white peoples who stole them from their homeland it was also done by many other African people. We black peoples built this land it was done on the backs of the slaves who are our ancestors. In the photos of the statue the gown is covering the feet to hide the chains. This was told to me and i believe it the truth is not hidden from me and i am telling it now

    you said "The Statue of Liberty is New York's most famous landmark," but it is not even in New York.
    Look a any map that shows the state borders between New York and New Jersey. The SOL is in Jersey City. It is so close to JC's Liberty State Park that you could swim to it. When you are on the Prominade of LSP that is wrapped around the statue, you must look UP to see the statue.
    There's even a vehicular bridge connecting nearby Ellis Island to that park.
    Your error is not your fault. The NYC Tourism Bureau spends a lot of money repeating that nonsense.
