When my mother and I climbed to the crown in about 1948, the crown was open (no windows). I raced ahead of my mom and grabbed one of the vertical bars of the opening. I leaned out in order to read the tablet -- no mom or security to stop me --. The tablet reads July 4, 1776, per my memory. In 1956, I was the first in my High Scholl class to walk to the top of the Washington Monument. Today, at 85, I can still climb stairs, but many fewer.
thanks for the tour! I've lived in the USA my entire life and I've never seen the inside of the statue, looked dangerous in there or claustrophobic but amazing at the same time.
Thank you so much for making this! My wife and I are going to the crown and this helps us a lot! She’s nervous about the amount of steps and the tightness. Seeing what it’s like helps prepare her.

Mums father and his father visited NYC in 1913 (from New Zealand) and I recall Mum saying they got up to the Crown or the Candle. They stayed with relatives while there. One of whom visited them back here in NZ around WW2… Laurie. NZ. 😊
Did it in1980. No appointments, just took a ferry to the island, went up. The spiral stairs were old, rusty, and made scary noises during ascend. Never thought I will never do it again in my life.
what a perfect day you picked to visit. Having the stunning RMS Queen Mary 2 at her Brooklyn berth seen on a sunny day from the crown is an impressive picture. Definitely adds to the historic importance, thinking of all the people who have sailed into NY harbor past the SoL while on the decks of all the Cunard Transatlantic liners makes this view even more incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Brilliant video, you must be super fit to climb those stairs!!. I'm planning a visit to NYC in May. I quite fancied visiting the Statue of liberty, but I think I'll stick to the boat trip now😅
Hi Linda. That's exciting for May! You should definitely get the pedestal tickets. There is an elevator for it, and the views are nice. I hope you have a fantastic trip! 😊
I would never had guessed it is hollow inside 😮 I always thought that the British donated a solid bronze statue and thought it was quite a feat to transport it from England to New York.
My partner and I booking a trip to the US next year, NY has always been on my bucket list. Coming from New Zealand. I can't wait to go to the 🗽 statue of liberty, I've always dreamed of visiting it, all the movies I've watched I suppose motivated that lol.... any other recommendations on places to visit?tour? Food places?
Hi 👋! That's exciting! I definitely recommend the high line park and "the Summit One Vanderbilt" where you can see maginificent views of both the empire state and the chrysler building. As far as places to eat, 2nd Ave deli has amazing pastrami. If you're into steak with delicious food and a rich history, definitely hands down Keens Sreakhouse (Babe Ruth and Teddy Roosevelt ate there). We made a video of NYC cafés if you're curious - we love Ladurée in soho. Hope this helps!
I've always wanted to go to NYC and visit the Statue of Liberty. But, I live near St. Louis, MO, and have to been to the top of the Gateway Arch. I'm so glad there are elevators to get to the top of the Arch. I'm not sure if I could hike all the way to the top of the Statue of Liberty. Thanks for sharing your video. You have a new subscriber.

@doniotte681 Thank you very much! 😊 Love the USA 🇺🇸 Yes, definitely go for it. It's a unique experience, and you can take several breaks in between! Also, one way stairs each way, so no pressure to hurry
I am very scared of heights, wind & being surrounded by deep water. I was given a birthday present to do the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb a few years ago. That was teerifying enough for me ❗️
(All buildings sway in the wind, some more than others. I looked up Statue of Liberty- it sways 3" in 50mph winds, and stands 111' high from feet to top of head. That is roughly twice as much movement as you would expect in a tall slender office building with the same wind.) This was a very interesting video. I've always been curious what it was like on the inside, your video shows it very well.
Thank you for sharing this information! I had no idea before going to the crown that buildings sway. It was really windy the day we went, so it definitely felt more intense. Thank you for watching 😊
wow nice view. i wonder if you could go up to the torch/flame. Probably only for maintenance people ? Hope to visit one day while i still can climb stairs lol
did this as a kid 45 years ago. i remember a continuous line of people on the steps and no one moved for long periods of time. I couldnt deal with that today
Oh my!! That's probably why they have a reservation system now with very specific times. I would have a panic attack on those small stairs waiting in huge lines 😅😶
Anyone remember when u could go to the torch? I think they closed it after the renovations during 86 or 7. I've never been to N.Y. but it surprises me that the steps r less than many traditional lighthouses that I've visited.
@@aKnightlyStory I'd imagine so. Did you happen to notice any "off limit* or "authorized personnel" signs that may have lead to further heights and narrow paths? I love lighthouses, but I hate heights, and it really freaks me out on my descent down as others make their way up and along the narrow and winding stairways alongside me. I can only imagine how this would make me feel. Thanks for sharing your video! : )
@vaccumsealed actually I saw both signs if I recall. It was behind a gate pretty high up, not far from the crown if I remember correctly. Maybe one day, they'll decide to open it up again! Thank you for sharing 😊
I went up to the crown in 1983, i was 29 y/o,. now 70 y/o,. i remember at the time access to to the torch was closed, looks like its the same scenario now,?
The most beautiful Statue of Liberty and Museum also in Battery Park in Battery Island very authentic. It was decorated nicely and sophistically. Don’t behave like a jealous spouse (Either husband or wife). Take a nice photo of this Statue of Liberty.
What a great video...brought back a flood of memories. I climbed up to the crown in 1982 as a 20 year old (I'm 62 now). I completely remember that narrow, one way up/one way down staircase to climb from the pedestal. We were only allowed to stay in the crown for certain amount of time (can't remember that part). Also, some of the crown's windows were actually missing and you felt the wind blowing inside. The other part I remember (laughingly) is if someone ahead you on the staircase "tooted", you got to bathe in the fragrance LMAO! 🤣
Obviously its original golden color is the prettiest, but it would only look that way for a couple months, tops. Then the oxidation would begin again and it would be a less pretty brownish color for decades until it reaches its full patina again. It would be far too much work and very stupid to clean her once every couple months. So her beautiful green patina is certainly what’s best.
I climb...literaly climb to the crown in 1979, the stairs were not the same, now are much more safe. There was space between the steps. I was 7 years old then, and i climb like a dog, with my hands and feet on the stair, 4 legs...jajajaja, but i get to the crown.
Remember being there as a kid back in the late 50s or early 60s. Must have been summer. We got to the narrow spiral steps and there was a person on every step above us. Ridiculous. We left.
It would need to be the elevator for me. No way I could climb all those stairs without collapsing with exhaustion. Enjoyed video though was very interesting to see :)

This was a very interesting video. I've always been curious what it was like on the inside, your video shows it very well.
Thank you for sharing this information! I had no idea before going to the crown that buildings sway. It was really windy the day we went, so it definitely felt more intense. Thank you for watching 😊
Waooo that's amazing and butifull informed video
Awesome !!! 🇺🇲🗽🗽🗽🇺🇲
Thanks for that. At 74 years of age living in New York I have never been there.
I went up there once. Well worth it.
Wah kota liberty statue sangat sangat bagus ya.
The Statue 🗽 Of Liberty Where Freedom Begins For All American's !!! Young & Old !!!
Absolutely!! 🗽🇺🇲
I did that in the 90s but there were so many people it took hours. It took 2 hours just to reach the top of the pedestal.
wow nice view. i wonder if you could go up to the torch/flame. Probably only for maintenance people ? Hope to visit one day while i still can climb stairs lol
The arm of the statue has been closed to visitors for over 100 years because it can not safely bear the weight
@@gilliamjf Thanks !
did this as a kid 45 years ago. i remember a continuous line of people on the steps and no one moved for long periods of time.
So cool! Would have been neat to experience that. I imagine it would have been even more narrow if not requiring a ladder 🤔😱
@@aKnightlyStory oh cool. Yeah, I recall em closing it after 911 took place. Have a good weekend!!
@vaccumsealed you too!
I was on liberty Island 2022 but it was closed for covid restrictions i really did want too see this that's a great view.
Hi Joel. I hope you get to experience it next time you're in NYC!
I never saw the balcony of the tourch in the lady liberty hand before.
I went up to the crown in 1983, i was 29 y/o,. now 70 y/o,. i remember at the time access to to the torch was closed, looks like its the same scenario now,?
When I visited the crown of the Statue of Liberty, probably around 1996 or 1997, the windows were tiny. They look way bigger now.
They have helicopter tours there frequently i gotta try the helicopter tour next.
The most beautiful Statue of Liberty and Museum also in Battery Park in Battery Island very authentic. It was decorated nicely and sophistically. Don’t behave like a jealous spouse (Either husband or wife). Take a nice photo of this Statue of Liberty.
@@ProsenjitGhosh-eq4nm thanks for the suggestion. Will have to check it out!
I was 16 and went with my mom at Christmas time there. I'm scared to death of heights. We went up as far as right under her feet. I didn't look over.
Great video I hope someday I would get inside statue of liberty
Thank you! ☺Hope you get the chance to, let us know how you liked it when you do!
i was up there when i was a baby. my dad carried me up around 2000, when it was easier to get tickets
Great video thanks Great job
I climb...literaly climb to the crown in 1979, the stairs were not the same, now are much more safe. There was space between the steps. I was 7 years old then, and i climb like a dog, with my hands and feet on the stair, 4 legs...jajajaja, but i get to the crown.
Remember being there as a kid back in the late 50s or early 60s. Must have been summer. We got to the narrow spiral steps and there was a person on every step above us. Ridiculous. We left.
Can you make another video where you go to the bridge Khalifa?
how long does it take you to climb those narrow stairs? Also the pedestal has an elevator? 🤔🤔
Just like Ghostbusters 2 😂
Yes!!! 😁
It would need to be the elevator for me. No way I could climb all those stairs without collapsing with exhaustion. Enjoyed video though was very interesting to see :)
The elevator only goes to the too of the pedestal. The one in the statue is only for emergencies and can hold only 2 people.
