I dragged my poor husband to (yet another) plant nursery and I thought he was standing bored in a corner but he turns to me with these big eyes and starts gushing “Kell, you have to come see this plant! Touch the leaves! You should get this one” (worth noting that five minutes before he had implied I had plenty of plants) It was of course a velvet touch. It might be my favorite plant in my entire collection.
@@sunghoononice8796 That's the case in many countries in East (Southeast) Europe. -c is often pronounced as a 'ch' sound. Like the last name Danic is pronounced Dah-neetch. Although Polish does have a lot of consonants I don't understand, like 'sc' and 'cz'. I once landed on an airport I can't even pronounce, Rzeszów. And my friend has a lat name I keep forgetting the pronunciation of as well. I call him Przewalski after the horse, but he really doesn't appreciate that.
My white fusion died the other day. Sadly I wasn’t upset, actually relieved to not have to worry about it. It was the most diva plant I’ve ever owned. I used filtered water, got it a humidifier and left it with it. Monitored soil moisture levels. Used recommended soil. It put off new growth and they instantly browned or withered.
I’m in Melbourne Australia and the white fusion is a diva here too. People are beginning to have success placing them in a cloche. My next one I’m trying in a terrarium.
The Soaring Seaward Family I grouped mine with other plants to raise the ambient humidity from respiration(?). It did a bit better with that, but I noticed its pot cracking and repotted it. All downhill after the repotting. Oh well, live and learn.
Mine did that too but I kept watering it and it was like it went dormant and it is now regrowing. So.... if you still have it around you might try watering it. But yes, it's a diva for sure. The second one I had browned and died and it has not regrown at all, though I haven't given up on it yet.
I'm so blessed to be born in a tropical country, where I can get all these "rare" Calatheas easily for a very, very cheap price. And it's so easy to take care of them as well! My family influenced me on my fondness of Chinese Evergreen but my first love was Calathea Ornata. I seriously want to collect all Calatheas they're too beautiful
It's so funny how you were so unimpressed by the Maui Queen but I almost knocked my cat off my chest in astonishment 😂 to each their own in the most lovliest of ways 💗
My very first calathea was an Orbifolia. I had been really getting into growing house plants for about 2 or 3 months when I stumbled across some at one of my local nurseries. They had a few crispy edges and the manager of the nursery gave me 30% off of the $6.99, 4" potted Orbifolia. Needless to say I bought 3. Then I went back a week later when they got their shipment in and got 5 more. I am now the very happy, proud caretaker of 8 gorgeous calathea Orbifolia, 5 of which are growing together in one giant pot. They still have some crispy leaves, but they have their own humidifier and I quite literally worship the ground they grow in. I absolutely adore them and pictures truly never do the silvery green leaves justice. If you have a chance to get one take it. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have found so many of them locally, in relatively good condition, and for such a low price. They are hands down in my top three favorite house plans.
I bought one calathea (freddie) on a whim, and just a couple months later, I now have a beauty star, ornata, fusion white, and makoyana. Still not even sure I can keep them happy in the long run re: humidity!
Wow, thank you for identifying the Maui Queen! I picked one up at Lowes on clearance recently and couldn't for the life of me figure out what it was. Now she has a name 😊
How do you care for it? I have one for almost a year now and it is the most difficult plant to take care of. I have a lot of brown/yellow spots on the leaves and I had to cut off a lot of them. It got to a point where I had like 1/4 of the original plant left, so I put a bowl with water underneath (for higher humidity) and I only water it with filtered water. It started to push new foliage afterwards but the spots are still there. No other calathea I have is so demanding. But I love it so much I'm not willing to give up on it just yet :)
@@KasumiKingfisher I wish I knew! Mine too has been a pain to take care of. Several times over the past year I have cut it back and started over. I live in Florida so heat and humidity are not the cause if its demise. It constantly grows new leaves, it just never looks pretty.
I'm so glad Jenna mentioned you, you're amazing and so talented! I'm new with my plant obsession, I have about 10 indoor plants so far and have to hold myself back everytime I'm near a plant store... Really want to invest in some of the things you talked about in your calathea care video so that I can understand my plants more. Thanks you for your amazing videos xx
Would love to see a rare plant index on ferns, begonias, sansievera, monstera, hype and anthuriums!! Also, I had a calathea white fusion that did so well for a long time and then suddenly succumbed to spider mites who won out even against my best defenses :(
Noooo, I'm so sad to hear this. I just got a white fusion a couple weeks ago and it's doing well and I absolutely love this plant. What did you try on your plant, Dora? I heard dish soap mixture kills the mites but would that also harm this plant?
It’s interesting that I got my calathea pinstripe, rattlesnake and warscewiczii from Lowe’s. I did not see those plants at either of two plant nurseries where I get plants.
Kaylee I cannot. 😂 You have made me fallen in love with CALATHEA! I now own a Calathea Elliptica Vittata and Calathea Musaica Network. They are thriving! Today I touched a Calathea Warscewiczii and now I can't stop thinking about it. Am probably gonna dedicated a section of the house to just them calatheas. 😂 Love love love your Rare Plant Index series. Thank you for making them as you make me realise how blessed I am to be living here in Singapore and these very rare, extremely rare (like the Lutea lines the estate my apartment is part of) are quite common here. They are BEAUTIFUL. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME APPRECIATE THEM MORE! Thank you!
Update. Now I own a Calathea Elliptica Vittata, Calathea Musaica, Calathea Orbifolia, Calathea Sanderiana (Pink Ornata), Calathea Beauty Star and adopted a baby Calathea Warscewiczii! They sit together with my Stromanthe Triostar and Magicstar! 😂 My calathea collection has gone BOOMZ! In two months.
This is so useful! When I see something new pop up at the nursery it's so helpful to know if it's relatively common and likely to pop up again or more rare and something worth snagging while it's available. I'd love to see this for peperomias or hoyas!
Calathea lutea can easily be found in most of the plant nurseries/garden centers here in the philippines. More plant index videos like this, kaylee 💗 We love em 💗🙌🏻
14:00 "it looks like a banana tree" Definitely does! In Indonesia they call it Banana tree ornament tree, I didn't know it's a calathea! If you google "tanaman pisang hias", you'll see it has red&yellow flowers/fruits(?)!
I bought a Calathea majestica a few weeks ago, i love it! The first evening it scared the bleep out of me, the leaves looked completely lifeless. I gave it some roomtemperature rainwater hoping it would recouperate. The next morning i was pleasantly surprised the leaves stood up straight. Later on that day i learned by googling about it that it's common for calathea's to move their leaves during the day. Really fascinating! It's thriving, i must do something good, 😁
I have a Calathea White Fusion! They’re not too bad to take care of. I think the key is just accepting you might get some crispy edges on some of the whiter edges if you don’t have it in a terrarium. I live in Florida, so the humidity factor takes care of itself, but they’re just really sensitive to tap water, mostly. Definitely worth the marginal effort to see the beautiful leaves 💚
Love your videos. Please do more of your updated houseplants collection tour. I watch your videos almost everyday in the background. You are so inspiring. Love your calatheas
My white fusion is a D-I-V-A indeed. Filtered water is a must and I have 45-60% humidity and I still spray it. The nursery where I got it clearly didn't take great care of it, as I got it with tons of crispy edges, but new leaves are starting to look well. Hopefully I've got it down. It's small, but utterly gorgeous!
I just bought a white fusion yesterday for 15 dollars! Just because of how thin and frilly the leaves are I can tell she’s gonna be a diva 😬 I’ll probably put her next to my pinstripe because they’re both queens 😂
Hello Kalyee Ellen, thank you for spending yor time for researching all of these plants, it is total interessting! At 14: you show us the C. lutea. When you watch a banana tree stam, you can see, that these are much thicker, than on your image. And every leaf, comes out of one stam. Greatings from germany :)
Ok, I have many different plants, but... On Friday I owned 3 calatheas (or at least marantaceae plants), now I own 7...;D - I own C. zebrina - it is velvety but is not that neon, maybe it depends on the care/nutrients, - I own C. Network and it does not have such a contrast between the light and dark green which I was a bit dissapointed about but still I like the pattern and it grows very nice ( I have it for a few months now), also the edges of the leaves are somehow curled which I thought will go away but it didn't - it's just like that, And about the other mentioned plants (info I checked on garden.org): - C. roseopicta Cynthia is indeed similar to roseopicta (or picturata Argentea) but the colours are inverted like negative, and in roseopicta the central vein is the same colour as surrounding (or pink blush if its blushed), just the edge is different, but,- I own C. Network and it does not have such a contrast between the light and dark green which I was a bit dissapointed about but still I like the pattern and it grows very nice ( I have it for a few months now), also the edges of the leaves are somehow curled which I thought will go away but it didn't - it's just like that, - C. roseopicta Cynthia is similar to Calathea Bicajoux® Gekko Pink, but the Gekko Pink is like faded Cynthia;) - check out the C. orbifolia, C. fasciata (Maranta borussical) and C. rotundifolia (Ischnosiphon rotundifolius) - they are very very similar, but somehow the fasciata colours are more vivid, but any way I really cannot see difference by looking at the leaves. On garden.org I have not found no photo of the calathea that would look like the one presented as fasciata/rotundifolia. Anyway it si lovely and reminds me of monstera but without the holes;) I'm again sorry for the heavy post but I am boosted to search for plants after seeing your videos, I just want to look at more and more plants;) ps. I always touch the leaves of plants at shops, it feels calming:)
I have the calathea lutea and I often forget that it’s a calathea except when it “prays” it like a lot of sun and where I love, thrives in direct sun, it grows super tall 3-4m and the backs of new leaves feel a little velvety but yeah such a weird calathea, it doesn’t look like a calathea and like very different light to a calathea 🙂
Lovely video, I would love them all!! ^.^ About the pronunciation, a good trick is to put the latin names in Google Translate and set it to Italian to check how they sound. We have the same sounds of latin (mostly), hence you'll get a pretty close pronunciation. For example, when you see the syllable "sci" (like in faSCIata), the sound to make is the same sound in the middle of the word "faSHion". So the correct pronounciation would be like "faSHiata" (sci = sh). Btw Fasciata means stripped or "bandaged" (in the sense of covered by wide stripes) both in Italian and in Latin. :) Other examples: carnosa (like in Hoya carnosa) means plumped/meaty/succulent in both in Italian and Latin. Zebrina (like in Alocasia zebrina) in both languages means stripped like a zebra. Leopardina (like Calathea leopardina) means stripped like a leopard. Pavonii or pavonina means the plant has a pattern similar to peacock feathers. Cupra means colored with dark red. Picta means painted. And so on... In general, in botanical Latin the names always have something to do with the look of the plant or with the name of the botanist who categorized the plant (like in Hoya hoffmannii, from Hoffmann).
I have 3 plants from this list. The calathea crocata ‘candela’ that I have, have much darker leaves. The flowers last min. 4 months. I have to say, out of all calatheas that I have the leopardina is the easiest to care for. Grows and flowers in low light and has close to no brown tips. Love this video and the list of plants you assembled.
I have a calathea white fusion and it's gorgeous! However, I had to buy a cloche to keep it happy. It kept dropping leaves within the first few months of me buying it, and even sitting it right next to a humidifier didn't keep it happy. However, once I put the cloche over it, it grew and unfurled 2 new leaves within a couple of months and is much, much happier. Having the cloche is nice as well because it keeps the soil damp for so long, so I don't have to water nearly as often as my other calatheas. Gorgeous plant, for sure! But you definitely have to be willing to put in the work to keep it happy.
So happy that my bella and silver plate are in the extremely rare category 😁 I hope Kaylee have these plants now they are so so pretty and on the more easier side. Calathea lutea is also super common in Indonesia, most people use it as aesthetic purpose for their outdoor area and so many people hate then eventually remove the plant because it attracts mealybugs a lot!
I recently got a little calathea amabilis, and honestly I would recommend one to any first time calathea owners! It's sometimes listed as a stromanthe or maranta amabilis, or a fishbone calathea (I think anyway!). The ambient humidity of the UK is enough for it to thrive, and it's throwing out new leaves almost daily! I have a magic star as well, and my amabilis has been so much more low maintenance - plus it was only £3.95 for a 6cm pot 😍
Oh my gosh. I have a calathea ornata that I purchased from a local nursery for about $5 just before Valentine's Day. I thought that the pin stripes were painted, as you said, because of Valentine's day but would wash or fade off. I was Pleasantly surprised when they didn't. I had no idea that they were rare. I feel so luck suddenly.
I absolutely adore calatheas! I bought and received my first one recently, a lovely White Fusion... admittedly it was in rough shape after being shipped to me, but it bouncing back with some tlc. Makes me feel like if I can get it looking beautiful again, I could take care of any other calathea lol. I'll be moving in a few months, so hesitant to get any new ones till then, but this list has got me wanting /several/ to keep mine company. Whoops.
I got a musaica!! First one I've ever seen in person and I walked away from it after convincing myself I shouldn't... Then I promptly and frantically emailed the plant shop the next day to see if there was any chance it was still in, and it was, so I went back 😁 worth it
I just got a Calathea Musaica and a Begonia Macculata at Whole Foods in a 6" White Ceramic Pot for $15 each 😁😁😁 I was shocked and thrilled 😁😍😍😍 I'm in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area
I thought so too!! I have one as well and got a little confused. I thought it was a "Compact Star" Calathea when I first bought it but now I am sure it is a Ctenanthe Setosa! :)
Calathea Lancifolia - Rattlesnake Calathea Crotalifera - Rattleshaker I think thats what it isssss... Anyway love love love u for this video! Thank youuu
War se we c i is the phonetic pronunciation short e sounds. Quick ? for you. I recently purchased a Calathea online and when it came the roots were wrapped in sphagnum moss. I thought what if I mix that into the soil for the Calathea. Well I gave it a go and now a week later my Calathea seems very happy so far. What are your thoughts? White Fusion is a total diva I'm on my third or fourth... I think I finally got it though. It really likes to dry out before watering and is super picky about it's soil. Does not want a heavy soil at all more of a cactus type soil. It likes humidity but not directly blowing on it. The names and availability seems to depend on your location. Some are more readily available in Europe, some Australia, some I guess US. I just purchased a Rotundifolia for $13 from Florida. The Fasciata was coming in as Australia.
Calatheas are simply the most beautiful plants I have ever seen. I find the White Fusion the most difficult of my calathea family to take care off. She definitely requires the most attention
I got a white fusion about a month ago. It was severely burnt, but still alive because it was packed in plastic and in shopping during 100 degree F days. I have new growth on her now and those leaves are pretty, but the rest of it looks a bit shitty. I keep it near a humidifier and give it distilled water. It is still alive though so by my standards I can't label it as a TOTAL diva, just a regular diva because a total diva would be dead in my care by now lol. Thanks for the interesting caletheas!
I love your channel! This video is great! I found it interesting that some rare species you said, are very common here in Brazil. If you visit Brazil one day, you will love the plants. 💚🇧🇷
Last comment: the blushing on your white star might be a light/sun thing. My guess is based on Hypoestes phyllostachya as well as Lysimachia which are both shade plants whose color change with degrees of light. Lysimachia is like greenish in the shade and yellow in the sun. Just a guess? 🤷🏻♂️
I love this series! Really educational and entertaining. But since i'm kind of "new" to the hobby of plants, one thing i realized is that i'm not always sure of what the common plants are, like I now know what the rarer philodendrons and calatheas look like, but I have close to no idea what is considered the common ones. I had never heard the term of calatheas before watching your videos, so I am totally clueless. Would love some quick examples of the commons just as a quick referens or reminder. Thank you for these videos.
Hello love your posts I really look forward to watching them I'm Julie I live in West Australia a little south east of Perth and I have, White Fusion and it has been a easy plant to take care of , it has been a joy to watch it thrive .When I find out how to send you a picture I will send one for you .
Ooh I have the Makoyana, Musaica, White Fusion, and Fasciata. The care for the Musaica and Fasciata are generally similar to the common calatheas. But my white fusion's leaves tend to burn much more easily than the other calatheas. I've noticed that it tends to thrive in more shadier areas of my balcony but in a very humid spot beside my alocasias.
AL comparing it to ivy isn’t saying that it’s boring, it’s moreso a comparison to the pest problem. ivy is notorious for getting infested with spider mites, so they’re saying that the white fusion is prone to it just as bad as ivy
My first calathea was a Zebrina and it is so soft to touch! I loved it instantly and not knowing anything about it brought it home, researched it and I find it to be a easy plant to take care of instead of all the story's I read about it being a diva plant so I guess I'm a overprotective plant mom now 🤔😊
Lol, I wondered what that noise was, glad to know what it was. I love Calathea, I'm just starting to collect them, I only have 3 so far. I'm really enjoying your videos, they give so much information. Not really sure what I could suggest for a next video, I just look forward to your next one. Thanks Kaylee, and bye for now.
I saw calathea lutea a lot in Bali. They're BEAUTIFUL. Like a delicate bird of paradise (Strelitzia nicolai). Re: the rattlesnake plant, they can both be the rattlesnake plant. That's the trouble with common names. Like 10 different plants will go by the same name and none are necessarily right or wrong. It's like people calling M. deliciosa and M. adansonii "swiss cheese plant", or M. deliciosa and Philodendron bipinnatifidum "split leaf philodendron". Although in the latter at least P. bipinnatifidum is at least an actual philodendron. That's why I strongly prefer using the scientific name. It makes it much more clear what's being talked about.
I've had my white fusion for a couple months now. Shes been doing good but definatley fussy! Been trying different light patterns, about 6 hours of partial/full sun 3 times a week and shaded north facing window for the rest of it and shes happy. Leaves are really susceptible to chemical damage tho, and the soil likes to stay moist. Thin leaves that wither easily so it's important to prune and monitor. A beauty tho
I really like these videos! They're so interesting. They make me wanna get more plants though haha. Also, I like the idea of the next one being about Monsteras. I'd also like one on Syngoniums, Peperomias and Sansevierias
Another great vid and well-researched. I discovered the pronunciation is Var-sew-vit-see-eye. I call mine wishywashyeye. It's hard to stop touching it. Beautiful white flowers. The white fusion is definitely high maintenance. I moved mine closer to the humidifier and the window and it's doing much better. Your white star is beautiful...it's on my wish list. But it is behind the musaica. I don't know if I'll ever see that in my local nurseries. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge!
I just bought a calathea white star on sale for 8€/9$! I admired yours in the back, while watching the video and was surprised to see it be listed in the very rare section. I'm glad I made such a steal 😍 she's 55cm tall. I can't wait for her to arrive ❤
I really love your channel and this Rare Index is my favourite. I like it that you mention the common misinterpretation of Calathia being ALL Arrowroots. I was also wondering if you could do a Index on Marantas in the near future. They are so colorful and fun! Best regards, A new subscriber and a proud plant dad 😁
I got a white fusion for $20 here in Canada and she's doing great! Had a spider mite outbreak and only she came out unharmed as well. She just likes humidity and does great with a daily spritz of water.
I have a Network and it reminded me of exactly what you’re saying! Total doodle pad. Im deeply in love with it and it’s been really easy to take care of in my experience.😊
I have a Calathea White Fusion. I’d say it’s relatively normal care for a Calathea, I just make sure it’s in a little bit brighter light. I got it online so it does have some browning and bruises from shipping but over the past few months it hasn’t been trouble at all.
I think the best thing with the white fusion is the fact that I've been warned soo much that she's a diva that I and very attentive. She gets misted, a pebble tray and closest to the humidifier. I'm popping her in a case soon but she pushed out 4 leaves in less than two months for me
This is really interesting because the plants in most of your videos here in NZ we can't get any of them or they're like $1000+ but most of these calathea we have in every store here like the ornata, zebrina, vittata, roseopicta corona and orbifolia! So interesting!
Just found your channel and rare plant indexes and love love love them! Calatheas somehow don't excite me as much (more of an alocasia girl here), but the velvet touch really is a beauty.
The C. ornata looks stunning! C. lancifolia is my first (so far only) bought indoor plant and honestly still find it the most beautiful, rare or not :) glad you cleared the rattlesnake part up, I was confused because I just couldn't see the resemblance.
Thanks for the education Kaylee! I always thought I had an Ornata but I definitely have a Beauty Star! I thought mine just looked a little off (not hard to assume when calathea are so fussy!). Although I wish I had an Ornata! Love the deeper green.
i grew up with tropical plants. Heliconias, Gingers, Costus, Palms.. the Calathea you mentioned looks like a banana tree is called Lutea; Havana Cigar. Funny because i grew up with these being Calatheas.. now there are so many small ones i had no idea about. the Havana Cigar is what you see everywhere in Bali and Singapore and gets an awesome Cigar like flower :)
Stop making me want to spend all my money on calatheas and alocasias

Would love to see a rare plant index on ferns, begonias, sansievera, monstera, hype and anthuriums!!
Also, I had a calathea white fusion that did so well for a long time and then suddenly succumbed to spider mites who won out even against my best defenses :(
*hoya
I second sansievaria! Love this plant and love your work!!
Noooo, I'm so sad to hear this. I just got a white fusion a couple weeks ago and it's doing well and I absolutely love this plant. What did you try on your plant, Dora? I heard dish soap mixture kills the mites but would that also harm this plant?
So happy I bought the “rare” pinstripe at Lowe’s for $10.00 not knowing how rare it was yay!!!
Me too! 💚🌿
It’s interesting that I got my calathea pinstripe, rattlesnake and warscewiczii from Lowe’s. I did not see those plants at either of two plant nurseries where I get plants.
@@deborahrowe2251 ur bout to have me stalking my Lowe's now for the velvet touch one! Lol
same. i had to get it since it looked sooo fake. but wow its beautiful. i also bought rattlesnake.
I love my pinstripe. It's gotten massive and it's beautiful
Here from Jenna and Julian’s podcast 💜
Me too!!! So happy Jenna gave her a shout out so I can infuriate my roommate by buying more plants!
You are quickly becoming one of my fave plant gurus.
And yes, do the monstera index
Same.❤️
Kaylee I cannot.
I too have touched a warszcewicii and can't stop thinking about it... Is this what true love feels like? 😂
I love your index videos! Thank you for taking the time to research - I’m learning something new with each video ☺️
Me: wwwwoooooowwwwwww😲😮!
Kaylee: I wouldn’t buy this.
Me: 🤨
Sorry to anyone triggered by my zip! lol. It won't happen again!
Kaylee Ellen it’s fine it’s like ASMR 😂
My favorite necklace (in my pic) clangs next to my mic and I wish it only happened once before I learned 😂
what Zip?
@@nwyk153 Lol the Zipper on the top I'm wearing kept making noises down the mic - but I'm pleased you didn't notice! haha
HAHAHA! I didn't even notice but I had to go back and watch it I'm at 1:30 and yep you can hear it 😂
What about a Calathea Medallion! Not the most rare but massively on my wishlist!
This is so useful! When I see something new pop up at the nursery it's so helpful to know if it's relatively common and likely to pop up again or more rare and something worth snagging while it's available. I'd love to see this for peperomias or hoyas!
The “it’s me beech” edit is getting to me. Stan
Calathea lutea can easily be found in most of the plant nurseries/garden centers here in the philippines. More plant index videos like this, kaylee 💗 We love em 💗🙌🏻
My wish list grows tremendously every time I watch one of your videos. Please keep them coming. Ha ha. It’s okay if I go broke.
14:00 "it looks like a banana tree" Definitely does! In Indonesia they call it Banana tree ornament tree, I didn't know it's a calathea! If you google "tanaman pisang hias", you'll see it has red&yellow flowers/fruits(?)!
Those are members of the Heliconia genus, which is from the banana family, Musaceae. Calatheas are from Marantaceae, the Maranta family.
And their flowers are vastly different.
I am full on obsessed with Calathea and the way that their leaves move all day.
It's thriving, i must do something good, 😁
Me eyeing my Calathea Musaica on my shelf... didn't know this one was very rare...
Lol same
I have a Calathea White Fusion!
Did any of them survived? :)
I really want one. How did you make out with it?
Hello Kalyee Ellen, thank you for spending yor time for researching all of these plants, it is total interessting! At 14: you show us the C. lutea. When you watch a banana tree stam, you can see, that these are much thicker, than on your image. And every leaf, comes out of one stam. Greatings from germany :)
Ok, I have many different plants, but... On Friday I owned 3 calatheas (or at least marantaceae plants), now I own 7...;D
- I own C. zebrina - it is velvety but is not that neon, maybe it depends on the care/nutrients,
- I own C. Network and it does not have such a contrast between the light and dark green which I was a bit dissapointed about but still I like the pattern and it grows very nice ( I have it for a few months now), also the edges of the leaves are somehow curled which I thought will go away but it didn't - it's just like that,
And about the other mentioned plants (info I checked on garden.org):
- C. roseopicta Cynthia is indeed similar to roseopicta (or picturata Argentea) but the colours are inverted like negative, and in roseopicta the central vein is the same colour as surrounding (or pink blush if its blushed), just the edge is different, but,- I own C. Network and it does not have such a contrast between the light and dark green which I was a bit dissapointed about but still I like the pattern and it grows very nice ( I have it for a few months now), also the edges of the leaves are somehow curled which I thought will go away but it didn't - it's just like that,
- C. roseopicta Cynthia is similar to Calathea Bicajoux® Gekko Pink, but the Gekko Pink is like faded Cynthia;)
- check out the C. orbifolia, C. fasciata (Maranta borussical) and C. rotundifolia (Ischnosiphon rotundifolius) - they are very very similar, but somehow the fasciata colours are more vivid, but any way I really cannot see difference by looking at the leaves.
On garden.org I have not found no photo of the calathea that would look like the one presented as fasciata/rotundifolia. Anyway it si lovely and reminds me of monstera but without the holes;) I'm again sorry for the heavy post but I am boosted to search for plants after seeing your videos, I just want to look at more and more plants;)
ps. I always touch the leaves of plants at shops, it feels calming:)
welcome to the calathea addiction.
It's been 2yrs since this video was uploaded and yet it still made me get 5 of the plants on this list in a span of 15mins. 😅
Hi! I know this reply is super late but where did you get your calathea lutea? I have been looking all over and struggling to find them!
So i was a bit skeptical about the awesomeness of velvet touch, but i figured i'd give it a shot. you are 100% right about it!
I love how you are so brief and specific unlike the other, that will tell the whole story 😍
Absolutely loved this video! And yes! Bring on the monstera index.
Lovely video, I would love them all!! ^.^
About the pronunciation, a good trick is to put the latin names in Google Translate and set it to Italian to check how they sound.
Other examples: carnosa (like in Hoya carnosa) means plumped/meaty/succulent in both in Italian and Latin.
That Calathea Flame Star tho... I'm definitely going to have to hunt one down!
All your videos are so professional and just super fun to watch! Haha
The lady is cute beautiful too
I have 3 plants from this list.
In love with your rare plant index videos! Found a Calathea Majestica Whitestar two weeks ago and bought her right away, such a beautiful plant 😍
I'm sorry to change the subject but great job on your makeup! 👍🏽
Then I promptly and frantically emailed the plant shop the next day to see if there was any chance it was still in, and it was, so I went back 😁 worth it
I hope to find a Calathea White Star, a Calathea Beautystar and a Calathea Libbyana soon. Maybe the next video could be about Aglaonemas?
I just got a Calathea Musaica and a Begonia Macculata at Whole Foods in a 6" White Ceramic Pot for $15 each 😁😁😁 I was shocked and thrilled 😁😍😍😍 I'm in the Tulsa, Oklahoma area
"Calathea compactstar" is Ctenanthe setosa.
I own this plant and its easyt o care for.
I thought so too!! I have one as well and got a little confused. I thought it was a "Compact Star" Calathea when I first bought it but now I am sure it is a Ctenanthe Setosa! :)
I have it too but I wonder why they keep turning yellow. They don't look healthy no matter what I do. Please suggest potting mix that'd suit them.
Calathea Lancifolia - Rattlesnake
Calathea Crotalifera - Rattleshaker
I think thats what it isssss... Anyway love love love u for this video! Thank youuu
I have a white fusion calathea. It’s so pretty and delicate, the leaves are like tissue paper. I use distilled water and a grow light.
Absolutely love this channel! And I think monstera next would be great, or begonias!
Just bought the Network. The intricacy of the leaf is mesmerizing. I walked by it then went back to get it.
Here in the Philippines, I've seen people place their potted 6feet-tall Luteas on both sides of their front doors. Such a visual impact.
Calatheas are simply the most beautiful plants I have ever seen. I find the White Fusion the most difficult of my calathea family to take care off. She definitely requires the most attention
I recently came across your channel and have been watching all of your videos. I'm enjoying these rare index videos very much, please do keep it up!
Conclusion: I love calathea. 90% of these are so beautiful to me, my gosh!
Hello love your posts I really look forward to watching them I'm Julie I live in West Australia a little south east of Perth and I have,
White Fusion and it has been a easy plant to take care of , it has been a joy to watch it thrive .When I find out how to send you a picture I will send one for you .
Calathea White Fusion is the "Ivy" of the houseplant world.... It just isn't worth it. Its roots turn into spider mites.
As someone who's newer to the houseplant life and was ready to do whatever it took to get my hands on one - thank you. 🌿
What do you mean by comparing it to ivy? That it’s boring and usual?
The same thing happen to me with the calathea warscewiczii. I felt in love when I touched it.
I really like these videos! They're so interesting. They make me wanna get more plants though haha. Also, I like the idea of the next one being about Monsteras. I'd also like one on Syngoniums, Peperomias and Sansevierias
Where is Calathea Medallion? I missed it! The most beautiful of all, in my opinion! :)
The Medallion is pretty much a Flame Star, but less attractive.
@@Heliosvector, right!
You are literally the Calathea queen. Love your videos!
I'm here because of Jenna Marbles, and I am in love with your channel!
All of them are easily and cheaply available in London on most plant markets.
I have never owned a calathea, but now I have a few on my wish list
I really love your index videos ! Do more :)
I’ve had my white fusion for abt a month and she’s put out so much growth :00
I just bought a calathea white star on sale for 8€/9$! I admired yours in the back, while watching the video and was surprised to see it be listed in the very rare section. I'm glad I made such a steal 😍 she's 55cm tall. I can't wait for her to arrive ❤
These are so fun to watch, please keep making this series :D
I really love your channel and this Rare Index is my favourite.
I like it that you mention the common misinterpretation of Calathia being ALL Arrowroots.
I was also wondering if you could do a Index on Marantas in the near future. They are so colorful and fun!
Best regards,
A new subscriber and a proud plant dad 😁
I have a Calathea Rotundifolia it reminds me of my orbifolia with just darker leaves. Very accurate description!! Has the same shaped leaves as well.
I'm popping her in a case soon but she pushed out 4 leaves in less than two months for me
Pinstripe was my first plant, ever. I was a young mom, didn't know what I was doing. Someday I'll find another one and try again.
I'm in the Tropics and can't get that Silver plate to live. I've had a couple and I give up. The Diva of all Divas😯
The Lutea is all along my estate driveway and it's magnificent. Walking among them feels like you're in a jungle, if not for the tall apartment block.
