I find your videos so helpful. Thanks for all of your insights into Calathea care...I just dove right in and bought 10 calatheas and an now devouring all the information I can in order to help them thrive.
Lots of great calathea care tips here, particularly the info about touching leaves turning brown. That's something I've noticed happens a lot myself but no one else seems to mention it.
Thank you for your advice! Recently got the Ornata a few days ago without knowing anything about them - just cause they looked pretty. Despite the compact soil (we don't have any other type in my city), it's been doing pretty well and is currently sprouting a new leaf. I uknowingly replanted it as soon as I brought it home in a much bigger pot, so there's always the risk of root rot. Thankfully, it's always humid here and almost no chemicals in our water. Kinda worried about the winter though, as I'll have to bring it indoors.
😊 my calithia warcez. It has a bloom on it . I didn't know my beautiful plant did that. Maybe I'm doing something right? But the weird thing is that in the middle of the bloom there are groups of two weird looking things, I wish that I could put a picture on here, that come up and out of the bloom. They look a little like a long teardrop upside down so the big part of the teardrop is a part that's growing up and out. I have no idea what you call them, but they are more fragile than the leaves are ! If that's at all possible 😂. Are they supposed to fall out ?😢😮 I'm very grateful I have a BLOOM coming out of the middle of the tallest stock BUT I'm terrified that I'm doing something wrong with the flower. If you wouldn't mind answering me back? I really appreciate your videos, they're a big help. I have two different kinds of calathea plants. The other one is the lemon lime color and it just doesn't want to grow, it's just a little squirt, and it's decided it's going to stay that way. It only has two leaves on it and it's right where the other ones are, so I can't figure it. Same everything. So one's flowering and the other one won't grow😅😊 thank you very much, for all that you do, sincerely, Brooke Whitehead PS I am disabled and this is my hobby and what a wonderful hobby to have... My whole house is greenery and people just take a deep breath when they come in 😁❤️🌿🪴🌱
I love the calathea. After watching this video I'm a little frightened because I just fertilized them and hope that I did not overdo it. Right now I am slowly killing my Freddie calathea. It literally curls up and turns brown right in front of my eyes. I'm sure that it hates me because all I have to do is look in its direction and another leaf curls and dies. The longer it sits in front of me the more it dies. I do believe I did this by transplanting it and mucking with the roots. This particular plant has been a learning experience and it has almost most-definitely died for the cause. I haven't given up and I have every intention of buying another but it will be younger and I can climatize it a lot easier slowly getting used to living here. I am in Manitoba Canada 🇨🇦 and at this very moment it is minus 42 celsius and my humidifier runs night and day. Thanks for all the great tips and crossing my fingers that all of my care has not been their demise. 😁
I killed a Calathea which was a birthday present and I was GUTTED. I bought a replacement and now this is dying on me and it's sad. Hopefully it will turn a corner with these tips. Thank you
I think that the calathea network is the most beautiful one. But you need to see it in person. Because it's a discreet beauty that doesn't translate as well on the screen as when you have it in front of you. I think, what made me so interested in it is the grid pattern. Nature rarely creates squares. It usually has round forms.
They are absolutely beautiful.. My favorite is crimson.. No matter how many you kill.. 🙃 It's impossible to resist them.. I'm totally in love with them.. Though I'm struggling with them but still not ready to give up on them.. Your tips would certainly help.. Thanks really appreciate it..
Me too ! My first was a Calathea orbifolia, I tried everything from changing shelves changed her soil . I even bought a midifirer . I gave up an took her apart now am growing her babies fingers crossed I get a plant out of one of them . Just bought the madallion now her leaves are curling 🤢
I heard Calatheas are a bit funky when it comes to care and it discouraged me for years, but i saw one today in supermarket, it was lonely... I felt sorry and decided to give it loving home. Hope your care tips will help me not to kill it 🙄 thank you for such informative video. Subscribed! 😀
@@22dolxxxphin22 it's doing great, it's getting plenty of indirect sunlight and lots of humidity, as i've put small humidifier right next to it. I think it gained about 8-10 leaves since i got it. It can be scary at first, but since it has good light and moisture it'll be doing just fine 🤗
Wow! That was so thorough. No doubt will be very helpful as I just purchased 4 Calatheas. You really know your stuff - thank you so much for sharing your in depth knowledge and experience!
I’m a newbie and have just bought 3 calatheas I didn’t realise what I was getting into 😖 Think I’ll put them in the bath/shower room and hope for the best! 🌫 🪴
It's much easier to buy a decent humidifier and just leave it running all day. Unless you have a big family that are showering in there, the humidity isn't much different than other rooms in the house. It's a myth that all bathrooms are humid.
I see this plant its a fussy need attention but its beautiful! I have that starting browning leaves I think its of lack humidity in my place. Thanks for the tip and I learned your video.
as someone who bought a mislabeled calathea that i adore so much, this is extremely helpful! with all the delicate yet demanding care and beautiful personalities, i plan on buying more lol thanks!!
I find your video really helpful. I do have a problem with my Medallion I just trimmed 3 leaves due to leaves drying at the edges. Based on your video I need to buy a humidifier to keep them healthy.
Awesome video! I have a few calatheas too and they are beautiful. Currently struggling with the medallion one and pinstripe. When I bought them they came in very compacted soil. I didn’t know any better at the time. Gonna try to repot and use a different soil.
I live in a Chicago highrise with TONS of huge east windows and one northeast window, two south windows. Downtown Chicago is nothing but 900-1200 ft high skyscrapers. So while the entire east facing wall in every room of my condo is almost ceiling to floor windows and VERY bright light, there are a multitude of buildings. So I never know what “direct” light means in this situation. If I put the plants on the window sill in summer, at times the leaves burn, if I don’t in autumn/winter I am afraid they are not getting enough light. Within the wall of windows is my AC/heating vents 😰🙄 so this makes regulating temps very difficult. I mist the plants every day or every other and use a humidifier every day for at least a few hours. So far, I have the most trouble with my ALOCASIA POLLY. But as I am new to plant parenthood, I worry about plummeting temperatures as December/Jan/Feb are often 10degrees FAHRENHEIT or colder (sometimes ten below zero) but there are no windows in the kitchen or bathroom 😩😩 Should I literally rest the pots on my heating pad in winter??? Please advise! ❤
Hello, just found your channel and want to say thank you very much for an interesting and informative video. No hesitation in subscribing. Thanks again.😊
My geoppertia insignis is booming. Loves its locarion. My geoppertia makoyana hates its life. I recently went in and did a full rehaul. Brought down to root/rhizome, and put all new mix. Use a modified chunky mix with peatmoss added for extra water retention. And smaller grain size than i use for my aroids, which lets me water more often without worry. I mist them daily 2-3x and i provide 3 humidifiers keeping the himidity in the house around 60-70 %. Hoping that'll fix it up. Its a cathedral windows and its grown A LOT since 8 got it as a little 3" plant and oooked great foe the longest time. Vut the leaf edges were crisping and the colors looked washed out, so i figured the plant was grtting inconsistent humidity and too much light. But i moved it and dude threw a FIT. Its leaves went crinkly and brittle. It stopped its new frowth and the whole thing just looked terrible. Moved a couple more times trying ro find best spot, and decided to just pull it out, cut off all yhe gross growth, clean the rhizome, and plant in new mix in a smaller container. She hasnt bounced back yet, but. She seems to have stopped getting worse.
So helpful! I'm a new plant daddy and I don't know, I picked out a peacock Calathea because it just spoke to me at the store. But boy am I struggling to keep it in good health. After 4 days of getting it I realized that the edges of some leaves started to wilt and that not all the leaves were pointing up at night, so its come to my attention that humidity and distilled water are key. I hope to invest in a humidifier, since I live in the midwest where winters can be harsh. QUESTION. What kind of humidifiers would help this plant thrive? A cool, warm or ultrasonic mist? thanks!
Thanks for your videos. Your calatheas are gorgeous. I wondered why the leaves turn yellow and brown around the edges at the same time? I have many of the ones you have here, and I’m trying to learn about each one of them. Is filtered water from your fridge ok to use? ThankYou very much .☺️
Thank you for sharing I just divided my calathea... And I've been worried by its 'dormant'.. 😢 Because it doesn't show any good signs after it... The leaves are half curling... Breaks my heart and I kind of regret for dividing it...
I recently got a baby pinstripe calathea, and I'm killing it. Really doing it very wrong, considering I'm from a tropical country.. I hope it revives itself

I just added the velvetleaf Calathea to my collection. It's two new leaves stopped growing and are going brown/ transparent within a week and they are still rolled up have not opened. Does this sound like bugs possibly, I cannot see any but there was a spider on it and spiders only hang out where there is food?
Hey, what fertiliser do you use please? I have 6 types of calatheas doing so beautifully but now it's fertiliser season and I don't know where to start x
No direct sunlight in my room, I work overnights so the curtain is drawn tight always. So I have a 300w LED plant light hanging from the ceiling. It shines on all of my plants. I think I've been getting lucky with keeping this fella farthest away from the lights. I have a smaller light hanging over my cthanthes. These tips are great! I'm no green thumb, I just buy cool looking houseplants and plop them in my room😁
Ack. I made a really rookie move. Bought a Calatheia today before researching. I put it on a pebble tray and raised the temp in the house. Do you think the tray will provide enough humidity and I have it in a western window. Will that be enough or do I need a greenhouse. Don’t really have the room since our homes are offices, gyms, etc, but I don’t want to lose it. Help.
Your plants are beautiful but you present them a bit roughly in the handling. Sorry! Show us the plant all around. They are all very beautiful by the way! Thanks for sharing!
One of my favorite plant species, a bit fussy, but a very sexy plant indeed, many factors to keeping them happy and looking their best, but to me draining is the most important factor with having them, your plants are beautiful and sexy !!😁😁
Thank you for your advice on Calathea. I was given my first Calathea for my birthday last month. It is beautiful and all your plants 🪴 are beautiful.

How do you deal with pest ? They’re magnets for spider mites
Awesome. Thank you.

When should I repot my calathea

Does this sound like bugs possibly, I cannot see any but there was a spider on it and spiders only hang out where there is food?
also, its not the edge of the new leafs it the base and middle of the tubed leaf that is deteriorating.
my MARANTA I had 4 leaves and turned edges yellow and brown and lost all leaves and new leaves have curled in no leaves what happened ?
Why u not making new videos, ur last video is around 2 year ago

Help.

Make sure it isn't getting direct sum rom the window!
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!
