I literally can’t get my M. Esqueleto to STOP growing! She’s put out 4 new, huge leaves since I got he two months ago. She loves it next to the growlights and the humidifier. I would recommend one to everyone!
I am now replacing some pants that I had many years ago. Now that you are available with such great advice, I think that I will be more successful with them.
If you do this again you should start by rating some common houseplants so we have some reference. Like is it more or less tolerant to overwatering than snake plant? Etc
Yes please! I don't have any rare house plants yet and am a bit nervous to start getting into them for this reason. I'm not sure if you still have Gus, Kaylee, but comparing some rare house plants to him may be fun!
I've only recently found your channel. I've been a plant person for years but become a bit more obsessed recently. Thank you for these very detailed and informative videos!
Could you please do a video on the various houseplants that are treated with hormones by the nurseries to change their appearance or size? I find it fascinating. Thank you!!

As a bit of an old school house plant owner I'd like to remind some people variegated syngonium has been around for quite a while. The price is just been jacked up because of the house plant trend. Eventually it'll show up at Lowe's for $5. That's where I got mine about 15 years ago
@@mrparts Exactly, once upon a time people use to think they look ugly/sickly and didnt get it. So you could got one for as much as the regular version. The good old times. Sadly I didnt had any space back then
I've read an article about Pink Princess and apparently before the fad 4 inch pot would sell for less than $10. Now it's $250, talk about inflated prices...
@@horace6851 that's not even a huge jump compared to albo monstera, there's 1 leaf cuttings that go for $1,000+ I've seen a 3 leaf cutting, unrooted, going for almost $3,000 😳
Hey Kaylee! I never comment on UA-cam but I think you're worth it. I've only recently gotten into houseplants and you have taught me so much. I really enjoy your videos, thank you and keep it up!
Your explanation is always top-notch. I always watch your videos before purchasing a rare plant. I belive you help many people to spend their money on a worthy plant
i really love your videos because you come off as a "true person" like, true to yourself and i like people like that. I'd watch your channel even if it wasn't about plants. Plus I think you being a programmer is really badass! it motivates me (even tho i believe you're not currently working at that). Thanks for what you do, you've been some of the best in this quarentine time.
Philodendron gloriosum is on top of my wishlist, I‘m so happy about it‘s scores! 😍 As soon as corona is over and my paycheck becomes normal again, I‘m going to hunt it down. 💕
Kaylee, I got a request for the next video from you. Could you please do a video about differences between Philodendron Black Cardinal, Philodendron Black Cardinal Rojo, Philodendron Congo, Philodendron Congo Rojo, Philodendron Royal Queen, Philodendron Imperial Red and Philodendron Dark Lord. I don't know if all of them really exists but all of this philodendrons so mixed with names when I try to buy them. Thank you. Your videos are so good and I love them.

Great choices! Love my melano and El Choco the most in my whole collection. EpipremNOIDes is a fast-rising contender too-and my humidity is rarely over 40%. YAY AROIDS!!!
😍 this is pretty spot on! Though I had a melano cutting that I think was on the back foot to begin with and never really survived, so keen to try it again with a bigger specimen! I got a veitchii shipped in winter from Asia too, and it came in near perfect condition. Gloriosum for me is what started my aroid love, yes it depends on the individual plant you get and how strong they are to begin with but most acclimatise quite easily to your home environment and push out healthy growth. Syngonium variegated is amazing! Literally before another leaf has unfurled it’s already working on a new one, plus the anticipation of waiting for what pattern of variegation you’ll get next is thrilling 🥰
This is by far the BEST rare plant video I have ever seen. So much great info. I now have the confidence to go get my Melanochrysum. Thank You so much Kaylee.
Woohoo! Im so excited to watch this. I just purchased a variegated monstera today so this is perfect timing 😄 PS Im new here but I had binge watched your videos over Lockdown. Love you, you're an excellent human ❤🌺🌿
Lindsey Stratmeyer Were you able to buy a plant or bulbs. I've only been seeing bulbs for sale and was wondering (if thats what you bought) if they grew
I love this video. I just purchased a Melanochrysum and Veitchii and I already had planned on purchasing an El Choco Red, so this information really helped. And...maybe a Gloriosum.
My "testing the waters" plant is the melanochrysum. I bought a node, and I literally took it and put it in sphag prop box and threw it under a grow light. It is giving me love and it is starting to take off. I am in love, and getting El Choco next (when the craze calms down)
I have a philodendron Majestic coming in the mail. It has the lovely red underside and reminds me of El Choco Red. It is Verrucosum x sodiroi. I am in Australia.
Very excited having just received the philodendron melanochrysum. So happy to hear its very easy. Yes was suprised after a month in transit arrived very very healthy looking
Interestingly, I've never even considered modifying humidity levels for my houseplants, and my houseplants all do exceptionally well in my dry northern California climate.
Everyone talks about their high humidity closer to the coast and it honestly hurts my feelings :'( That being said, all of my plants seem to be doing just fine in the 35-45% my house tends to hover around.
the veitchii really are that easy!!! mine shipped in the cold with no heat pack and came perfectly. It's not livin with the best humidity but it's still killin it. TRULY a king
My El Choco Red has been PUMPING OUT those big beautiful leaves every ~3 weeks with (almost too) short petioles and such round foliage and burning dark red backsides, i'm so stunned by this plant!
Thanks for this video. I think I’ve watched it like 100 times. You’ve inspired me to take the risk. I’m okay with house plants and am rather new to philodendrons. I’m inspired, thanks again from San Diego CA!!!
You should definitely make the rare plant shop t-shirts like the tote bag on ur website, and maybe some rare plant themed graphic tees in black or white
I got a melanochrysum in the post today! It's not a massive one, but it's definitely not small either. I'd call it medium sized. I'm hoping I can give it the right kind of care and tbh it's hella reassuring to see that it's no 1 on this list for ease of care! Crossing my fingers for this guy and doing my research atm.
Thank you for another great video! I love the idea of M. esqueleto but I've got a regular monstera and while it's growing and is now pretty big, it just refuses to produce any leaves with a lot of splits, let alone holes so I'm worried this would end up being the same
I'm in the US, trying to get the white item from amazon here in the US and I can't find it but looking tmrw for sure! I need 3 at the least and the water probe💚
All of your videos I've watched are outstanding. I keep watching in hopes of finding one I can actually afford. Etsy is my only source for plants so if I find a plant in my price range I find it's from Indonesia and the shipping is excessive but relative.
Thanks for the video, great content! Got an El Choco about 2 months ago and it hasn’t done a thing. You mentioned kick starting it, but how do you do that?

It’s like the variegated monstera fad. I got one at a local nursery for $20 15 years ago when no one cared about this plant.

Did yours come with a leaf? I got a chonk in LATE October (so basically November), it's putting out a growth and roots, about a half an inch of both

I can’t find Philodendron El Choco Red anywhere in Australia 😩 such a stunning plant
Unfortunately it's not in Australia (unless it's been imported illegally) 😭 The closest we can get to it is a Philodendron Verrucosum
