I’m a little breathless in this episode; I think because I want to fit so much information on prayer plants-or the Marantaceae family-in 10 minutes time! In this episode I go over different types of prayer plants from 4 genera, temperature, humidity, water, soil requirements, and a whole lot more. Hope you enjoy this episode (and the very, very cool timelapse)!

Bought my prayer plant the other day without knowing much about it. I was SO weirded out when I kept finding it in different positions. Thought I was losing it. The time lapse part of your video was very informative and I appreciate the care tips. 🌱🌞
She has a plant a day series that I use when I’m out plant shopping. The videos are short so you can get an idea of the care quickly. It’s been a lifesaver bc I have a really shaded apartment
😂😂😂
I did the same thing.😂
Finally.
I have managed to keep a prayer plant alive for more than 20 minutes.
Finally.
My maranta loves being under a glass cake stand lid 💚 It helps keep up the humidity & I leave it slightly open to allow air in 😊
My prayer talks to me every day. He lets me know, not to forget him. I love him.
Huh?????
Aww I didn't know they had gender.. I give mine names, and they also find ways to communicate with me💐🌹
That was precious i love my plant too i named her junie and shes needy and spoiled
@Lin Vans, you have to be a plant lover to understand the comment 🙃

Thank you, Summer for all the information you share. Your use of scientific details, names and terms is so appreciated. Your "smart" style raises the quality of your channel by actually teaching your viewers and making us eager to know more.
The BEST prayer plant video ever made. Anyone who wants to grow these plants can watch this and learn/grow. Thank you for all of your knowledge and expertise!
Wow, I'm glad that I stumbled onto your tutorial. I have recently purchased a cutting of a red veined prayer plant. I had it in a glass of water for weeks. I would regularly change the water and used both tap and bottled. I purchased a root booster off of Amazon and would occasionally add a small amount. It finally took root and I waited until a few more formed before putting it in soil. It does look a little weird because it is only one leaf sitting in a pot. I have transferred it onto a heat pad and grow lights.
After seeing this I will take it out of the grow lights.
This has been the catalyst for my new love of plants.
Oh my! I grew marantas back in the 80s. They're so beautiful and such a pleasant energy. You've inspired me!
Dovete parlare in italiano non si capisce niente almeno la tradizione scritta in italiano
I grew these as houseplants in Northern Ireland in the 70’s 😊 now living in W Australia and want to grow them again and relive the 70’s 😆😆Thanks for all the info your videos are very watchable .lots of info very well presented 💕👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
One of my marantas had a little infestation problem, little lice like white bugs. I trimmed it all the way down cutting away all the leaves where they nested, and It grew back beautifully! Very strong and beautiful plants.
Never stop what you're doing, much appreciated🌿🌱💚
This is my fav kind of plant, and I have collected 10+ different ones over the past 4 years. Sometimes they flower, but even if they do not flower, they are still so beautiful. I love calatheas so much. :)
Since you have been successful for a long time, what are your personal tricks and observations for them to thrive?
Thanks.
My mum brought me a maranta, through her I fell in love with prayer plants and need more!!
I bought one for 5 bucks and it had two leaves. It now has about 20 within two months and it’s stationed in my bathroom. We love hot showers and so does he(plant)
Nice! Do you have a window in your bathroom? Our bathrooms have no natural light in our bathroom
@@bogbrither we have a window but it is t one that can be opens. It was also frosted but it worked!
Just bought my first marantha yesterday and stumbled over your amazing chanel! Now I am bingewatching your episodes. 😊 I've learned so much already, and I am very excited about the rest of your videos. Thanks for sharing your love, passion and knowledge. Greetings from germany 🌼
Very informative video. I just started having house plants after my daughters funeral. This was such a great help. I will be watching more of your videos. Thanks for what you do!
Loving your channel. I'm newer to indoor plants and purchased many of these Prayer Plants at the garden store. I'm totally in love with them.
You're a fabulous speaker and very easy to understand. Love how you explain things.
Thank you for the function for the underside of the leaf! I did not know that!
Summer, just found your channel and I'm in love! My plants are like little rays of sunshine around my home and it makes me so happy! It's wonderful to finally find a channel that has someone who loves plants as much as I do! Thank you!!
Awesome vid! The tip on using distilled water was extremely helpful!! thanks 😊😊
Those plants ! That beautiful oxygen exchange in the small space.
Love it ! 🙏♥️
Thank you for sharing. This is the first video, of many watched, that mentions these plants go dormant. That's very helpful.
Thank you! I will subscribe. It's good to get advice from someone who is actually trained and knowledgeable.
One of the best videos on plant care I’ve watched! Thank you! 🙏
New subscriber. So informative. I just recieved my prayer plant yesterday and I forgot about them folding and noticed it this morning. Loved the time lapse.
MY PRAYER PLANT JUST FLOWERED...IM SO EXCITED..I HAD NO IDEA THEY FLOWER.
Me either I'm shopping for one now.
What does the flower look like? So curious!
The flowers on mine were slightly bell shaped.
Congratulations! I hope mine will get there now that I’ve watched this video!
Yeah mine flowered too. One morning I got up and little pinky flower was there. The feeling was amazing. I really did not expect flower from my prayer plant.
it was definitely tap water AND lack of humidity stifling my prayer plants, wow
Very beautiful foliage plants. I love them. Thanks.
Thank you. It feels like just listening stories from an older sister... great job❤❤❤
I love your videos! I recently got a Calathea lancifolia and, after watching its behavior for a day or so, thought the leaves were drooping due to it being thirsty. I've since learned it's a daily pattern and now, I am used to the leaves making noise as they shift and readjust every day. It's a fun plant!
I am obsessed with your channel. loving every moment 😊
Very helpful! I love how you explain everything and have examples to show on camera. The visual are very helpful with all the great information that you share. Fantastic channel.
I have a Prayer Plant that I Love that my mom gave me a cutting from that she had for years and her plant is so big. I love the time lapse video of the Prayer Plant

Thankyou soo much for sharing your knowledge with everyone.
It was so informative and interesting.
Thank you so much for your vlogs they are super helpful and your knowledge is incredible. I almost always learn something new!THANK YOU!
Thank u, realy thank u for sharing what you know and learnd. Really suprising of what i learnd and than see back in my plants. The one gets hurt by to much light and another really loves light like my coffee plants. The morning sun does so amazingly well on my coffee plants. Other places and also in my plastic greenhouse almost distroyed a coffee plant but in my bedroom window that has morning sun... it does so wel.... Thanks for all you show and teach.
Thank you for your help, Summer! My prayer plant already looks better and I just found your channel a month ago!
That’s very educational. Yes my plants called them angels and now I knew there are prayer plants. God bless you
Just came across your channel tonight for the first time and I'm enjoying it immensely. It's so much nicer listening to someone discuss the care and requirements of houseplants than just reading the basic, generic info on the plant tags we find shoved into the pots when we buy them at our local stores. Especially this one..I just bought one of these a few months back, and I've followed the instructions to a T, but it's not thriving at all. I'm thinking now, after watching this vid, that at least part of the problem in lack of humidity - it's February in Maine, not much humidity in my home right now!
I love watching your videos I learn so much and so happy you are willing to share your knowledge and love of plants with us
My prayer plants do really well in my bathroom window, (indirect light). They love the moisture in the air when we shower. It's a tip I learned from my dad who had a plant live beyond 30 years in his bathroom.
This is a good idea. I will see if I can find a place in my bathroom for my maranta.
I have no window in my bathroom so I put mine in the kitchen. It's been blooming non stop since Jan-Feb it is August now & still blooming. I have never had one bloom like this before. I love it though!
@@debraolson7553 can I ask if you have a window in your kitchen? I don't have a window in my kitchen or bathroom and I'm not sure if its a good idea to put mine in either room without a window
I must say that I love your videos, so informative and my absolute go to when I need info.
Such great info..very thorough.
I love your channel! I'm learning so much!
You made me buy one with this video, haha thank you!
It is really helpful to me because I purchased one last week. Thank u very much n all the best for the nw series 365 days of plants.

Absolutely loving these plant one on me videos. Id love to see one on Monstera care:)
I just got a lime green maranta and I am really happy that you have a video about them. Your channel is one of the biggest reasons I wanted to get a houseplant :)

Thank you so much for such a detailed and thorough explanation. It was very helpful as my Maranta plant seemed to be dying on me. Now I know why it’s unhappy and on my way to sort out the problem. Bless.
I love your videos. Super informative. Thanks!
🎄💚🌿Merry Christmas! Happy holidays!
What are your favorite plant books, blogs, magazine etc. for plant identification, plant care and for helping identify what is wrong with your plants. Also thank you for doing a specific prayer plant video, there's always something new to learn about the plants in your home and my prayer plant is very grateful for your information.
Yeah, an episode on this would be rather cool.
omg you are by far my favorite house plant expert
I love this plants and your educational program
my prayer plant just flowered i’m so happy!
Summer..this was my all time favorite video of all your videos; for two reasons. 1.) Very informative (now I have to run out to buy my first Marantaceae.) 2.) This was a great distraction from a very stressful week of dealing with Hurricane Irma. I had to bring all my outdoor plants indoors this weekend. Now I know what it is like to live with 150 plants like you!ha ha Thank you!!!
thank you for sharing all your remarkable knowledge! i love watching your videos and having all of my questions answered! you're amazing
THANK YOU. So far, you are the only one who actually said they like low-medium light...I'd seen 'indirect' light on the other sites and was wondering why mine wasn't doing too well...near a lamp :s So thank you!
Thank you so much for such an informative and easy-to-follow video! I just got my first prayer plant so this will be so useful! I hope to someday have as many plants as you do!
Lucky me , i was gifted with a trailer worth of plants and within the load was several prayer plants! Thanks for the info, my heart was broken when i thought one died. My prayers that the prayer plant is just dormant! wootwoot Brooklyn!
I am so glad you mentioned the tap water being an issue. I wasn't sure why my Calathea Ornata was getting a few crispy edges. I am going to try distilled water.
Thank you for the great tips, as usual!
This was so helpful as I recently was given a cutting of the pray plant and was baffled by its behavior 😊
I’m so in love with the Calathea I just bought mine a few days ago
I’ve got it in my bathroom with stays at 55-65% humidity & quite warm cause I like it that way .. I’m really hoping I can keep it alive thanks for the amazing video
Great advice! thank you for sharing :)
This was so so so helpful. You are my favoriteeeeee
great advice...thank you...takes the mystery out of this lovely plant baby.
I have watched this video many times, it calms me every time before bed :-)
I just discovered your channel and I have to say that you are the one who explains with reliable and clear sentences. I couldnt find any informing videos even in my own language (Turkish) like it. Thank you and keep going :)
I guess that I never saw this video. I'm sure that Linda read these wonderful comments, or that her lovely Daughter read them to her. Yes, I still miss her very much. Besides her plant collection, she collected elephants, so that when I see an elephant, I imagine that she is saying 'Hi.' You'll be surprised how many elephants you'll see now. Thanks for this video Suzette and for the uplifting moments you gave to Linda along the way. ❤
This was such an informative video. Explained all details and understanding to these plants to help grow them
Thanks for the info on these plants 🖒
Love my new Calathea. Lots or purple on the leaf, and purple on the underside. Love!
Thank you for this! My poor plant has been so dry.
Thanks a bunch for this fabulous and informative video, Summer. My huge calathea’s leaves were curling & I thought it needed more watering. I’ve now moved it to another position and turned the humidifier on. Cheers
Thank you for that great information.
Just got one today! Thanks for the tips
You explain sooo well! A big Thank you from Argentina

I have three stripey plants. Thanks for the tips especially on water quality.
Just came across your channel and im planning my next plant thank you for giving me such great information and education!
This was SO extremely helpful. I went and bought one of these as my first houseplant just as you described. I just thought it was pretty, but I didnt know anything about it. Months after it's still looking pretty, but it has some leaf burn. I think I might not be watering it enough. Thanks for the info!
i'm obsessed with my prayer plant. thank you for the work you're doing!
They are so beautiful! I am obsessed with your channel ^_^

Me too! I just found this channel a week ago and I’ve seen at least 20 episodes now!

Hi...I am new to your channel. Laura, from Garden Answer told us about your videos. So happy she did because I love house plants. And this Prayer plant is one that I have enjoyed. But didn't know much about. So thank you for this info. ❤ Look forward to your other vlogs. Have a great week.
