My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.
If I was married to someone and I cleaned them, buy and bring them everything, they don't work and then I hear them say something like "food is the only thing in my life that brings me joy". I would lose my mind.
Very sorry to hear that, I feel for you.
@johnkaminski646 sorry to hear what?
I started my comment with "if"
Nothing I said is reality for me. I am talking about the video...
Yep They are selfish to the max alright. Thing that surprises me is how young most of them are!! Also got to love the no bs attitude of the Dr who wont waste his time!!!!
@@russell-di8jsthey're young because people don't get old at that weight
@@lyndy101I’m wandering what’s the oldest age anyone has lived past 600 pounds. Extremely HORRIFIC ‼️
Every single one of these people say “I’m starving” every time they want to eat. They really need to take that word out of their vocabulary.
then you think about the people in africa and jemen and stuff and i am sorry but i cant feel bad for these people
They dont even know what it is like to be hungry!! They eat all day long!!
100% right on that point... they should be ashamed of themselves.
@@oscarisaksson4809 i am, imagine just one day in such a body this must be complete hell, they mostly did it to themself but this makes it even harder to cope with it I think
It's an addiction. Does a drinker need alcohol?!
"I cannot function without Wontons"
Yes you damned well CAN.
I’ve never understood being so lazy that you won’t sit up and eat. Laying on your stomach and eating in bed, I have no words.
How do they afford to eat this much food? It’s got to be so expensive… I wish they would reveal how much they spend on food every month.
Most likely our tax dollars funding welfare programs that enable this behavior.
Probably more than we make with our full time jobs
Food stamps and I guarantee most of them collect disability. Which I think a self inflicted, preventable disability isn't really a disability. Just consequences of poor life choices. I say this as a former addict myself.
I'm not an American so I'm curious. Do disable people get like sort of discounts or outright cash? Or both?
In USA you can get disability amount depends on your financial situation. You are not getting rich on disability. @chelleb.9759
I notice in nearly every one of these stories that the people caring for (and usually enabling) the obese subjects are themselves obese-some of them morbidly obese. I can't help think that in some part of their mind, they don't want the loved one to lose weight, because then THEY will be the fattest one. So much more dysfunction is going on than just with the show subjects.
I agree. What you say is the cold, hard truth.
39% of Americans are clinically obese. 31% are overweight and 7% are morbidly obese. All told, that's almost 80% of Americans so it's no surprise that overweight people are surrounded by overweight people.
exactly right. Enablers are morbid themselves. It’s like the blind leading the blind.
There spoild egoïstisch people , lazy, the onley thing THE move is there mouth to eat 😅
THAT or they don't want them to lose weight because they like the feeling on someone depending on them.
I don’t understand how morbidly obese people were allowed to adopt a baby. I thought the health of the parents was a consideration in the adoption process, like will they be able to care for the child and be around till it’s an adult?
I'm guessing the baby was a family member's or family friend who couldn't care for it. In cases like that, you can even set up for the adoption before the child is born if you already have a home lined up. Not every kid has to be thrown into the state's care "baby pool" and jump to foster homes until finding an adoptive parent. In fact, I think most adoptions are private adoptions now. You can even become a "limited" foster parent if you have a family member whose children need a place to go. You still have to go through the application and review process and have inspection and background check and such but they get it done quickly so the kids can go into your care as quickly as possible. Being a "limited" foster home means you're only certified to take in these particular kids/family members. No one from CPS or DHS or whatever is going to call you and try to place more kids with you. You'll just have these kids until they can go back home. It's a really good thing that keeps a lot of kids out of the "system".
They adopted a future care giver
@@terryauer2518 yes, this is exactly correct
I agree, future carer
@@terryauer2518 not really…if he’s knocking on deaths door already by the time the child is old enough to take substantial care of him he won’t exist. There’s no way that guy can make it until that child is old enough to take care of him. Dr. Now is his last and only hope, so if he’s not successful with him chances are he’ll never be. 😒🫤🤷🏽♀️
It blows my mind that these people don’t work and get take out like 5 times a day. I work long hours and I’m lucky enough if I even able to get take out once a month
Our tax $ at work
no literally… I can eat fast food maybe once every few weeks.
I know.
Pretty sickening, isn't it?
I dont get it either I can't afford to go out to eat but maybe once a month
DONT BLAME anyone But Yourself
The scales were wrong? Really? Those are calibrated on a regular basis!
That was funny!! Also Its water weight!!
Penny is the most unwilling person on this episode!
Im like 195pounds and diabetic my family cares soo much about me They never allow me to have anything unhealthy if im with them anywhere or at their house. It helps me a lot. Motivates me to keep it up by myself. Im lucky
@3:45…why would Chuck adopt a child in his limited condition? Why would his wife agree to this?
I dont understand how they could even give them the child? The man is not even able to take care of himself, his wife is also obese .. that's beyond my understanding ...
When the child gets old enough for discipline, and neither parent can get up, they tell the child " bring the paddle to me so I can spank you".
How disgusting. The body is not meant to hold up such a massive weight. Obesity gluttony.
The only person I feel sorry for on this show is Dr.Now !!!!
Me too. Why does Dr. Now bother offering help to these people??! Three quarters of the patients are liars, overgrown children who won't grow the hell up and make an effort to lose weight.
@pamelatorres156 because that's his medical specialty and he does actually help alot of people. It's the failures that end up on TV shows and youtube clips. I worked with a lady who went through a similar journey. Not quite 600 pounds but big enough that her health was impacted. She went through a hospital program to first lose some weight on her own (she did successfully), get the bariatric surgery, stick with losing the weight (she did) and eventually get skin removal. Her determination to succeed (and succeeding) was really special. Very happy for her.
I feel sorry for that poor child who was adopted by those highly dysfunctional people.
The birth Mother would have been giving him up thinking he was going to a better home than she could provide but that's what happens......
@@vanessac1721 I love the episodes where they get it together and lose the weight. It's mind blowing!
Ignorant family bringing a massive cake to her party😮
Chucks wife no skinny Minnie. They should work together on diet
If I remember correctly they did, and she lost a fair bit of weight. Can't remember how much though
You have to have food yeah but you dont have to have cheese burgers, chicken nuggets, fries, soda and candy. Instead you could eat broccoli and lean meats but you choose not to
It’s a pity her daddy had not been sensible and said no to a child who knew no better. Spoiled and pathetic. Some times Dr must despair, these people are given a chance and they waste it.
These children should be taken away from these situations.
No child should have to bathe their obese parent and take care of the household.
I’m too stoned to be watching this… I know it’s supposed to be sad but honestly it’s just making me even more hungry 😂
Smoke it!
Right there w u
Same here lol. Luckily I have a pizza from 7-11
😂😂😂😂😂
That is more what you are smoking what makes you hungry!
HOW?! Do so many people on this show eat while laying on their stomach without choking
The body is an amazing, resilient thing.
It kills me when Dottie says "you have to have food to live every day". WRONG. You can actually go weeks without food.
It's in her head, same addiction as anorexia.
@@CristyB66 Overeating and anorexia are not the same addiction. They're more like mirror images.
You need water every day, though.
@@starzkreamyeah but water doesn't have calories
Actually, Angus Barbeiri went 382 days without eating. With no ill effects.
I'm absolutely guilty of morbid curiosity with 600 Lb Life. I feel like such a bad person watching these people and being grossed out when they eat. But I do feel really badly for them because it is an _Addiction_ . Imo, worse than drugs and alcohol which you can live without - not so with food.
Yes, it is an addiction often brought on by some sort of severe trauma
But so many people have trauma without succumbing to addiction. People claim becoming serial killers because of childhood trauma. It's ridiculous.
I remember the pizza story: a woman claiming that It was her boyfriend's pizza.
that contraption is called a HOYER lift
Yeah, it's called a hoist or a lifter
She's after the surgery thinking that's the magic pill
Most of these people can't even walk, it's the enablers who get these people their food who need scolded right along with the patient!! If you truly loved your child, you as a parent, would never let your child get up to 600 lbs!! So much enabling in these stories, it's awful..
Note that the caretakers are also morbidly obese themselves. They look tiny in comparison, but they are still gigantic.
Enablers should be prosecuted
In the old days we use to hunt them for the fat deposits so we could light our homes. Its ashame, food they eat could feed a villiage.
Merry Christmas, from Scotland!
And good luck on all those New Year diets.
I gave up on my resolution. I can’t help but fap to these videos
Penny is like an og on this show and I look back on her shows and I’m like wow she is nowhere near as awful as the ones who came after her. 😢 Her little guy is all grown up now and he was online defending her against people’s comments. If there’s one thing that I know as fact Penney absolutely loves her little guy, and he absolutely loves her. I wish them all a happy and blessed new year.
You are a good person. A sweetheart. World needs more people like you. ❤
You missed out on what Ashley did in the first one. Her dad ended up passing away, and she’s been working on her relationship with her mother. She’s now a softball coach, and has successfully kept the weight off. I don’t really think she belongs on this list.
Did she not pass away October 2, 2021 from sepsis?
@@valeriecarrasco894I read somewhere that she did pass from sepsis
From having 2 kids 😅 I know people who are NOT that big who have 10 kids! 😅
One of their kids had cerebral palsy. So she was taking care of a heavily disabled child that was often in intensive care, and eating as a coping mechanism.
She's one of the few people that I can _understand_ how they got there. But then it became full blown mental health problem that she refused to fix.
Dottie says she got like that from having 2 kids ??????????
She did say that. She does have a point given that one child is disabled with cerebral palsy and she was eating as a coping mechanism.
It's a mental health issue.
919?! How do you even GET that big?!
Sorry but who puts the food into their mouths, they do!
How do they use the bathroom???
Look if you are in severe constant pain it should be reason enough to lose weight. These people could survive in ketosis for a year probably and they think they need 27 pounds of unhealthy food every day to live. I would tell them no, shut the door and let them ware themselves out like a baby if they don't get what they want.
They would need some mineral and vitamin supplementation but you are probably right.
Some back of the napkin calculation. 600lbs person. Let's say 80% is fat. 480lbs. Each pound is 350 kcal = 1,680,000. If we are generous and say they need 2400 a day(they don't), that's still 700 days of energy. If 1500, that's 1120 days.
I did not account for how much of that is actually water and not fat. But it seems that one year is a good assumption.
disgusting - taxpayers are paying for their food and will pay for their funerals also...
Probably paying for disability
These people need to spend a few years in Biafra.
There's no biafra but I'm sure spending time in Nigeria will help lol
How do these people expect healthcare workers to manual handle them safely?
That's just it, they're not thinking about that. They're just thinking about the food. I'm not saying that to be mean I'm just saying that they're not thinking about the health care workers or anything really I don't think. That is of course just my opinion I'm not saying it is fact because obviously I can't read their minds but that's just how I'm seeing it. Addiction is like that, addiction is very powerful and unfortunately these people have a food addiction. It's just like a drug addiction except with a drug addiction you can do without the drugs, you can't do without food, yeah okay you can live a few weeks without food, but after that you're kind of screwed until you eat.
@@cmpvariety1764 I agree addiction of any kind makes a person incredibly selfish and will blame anyone except for themselves
Exactly they bring these kinda people to the hospital for us to look after. Do regular turns on them, wash them and all sorts and this is how people end up with bad backs yet we’re still underpaid but they have money to buy junk food everyday more than 3 times a day
How can they afford all that food?
Well, first of all, junk food is usually not very expensive. At least not in a "dollars per calorie" metric.
Secondly, food is the ONLY thing they spend money on; You don't see these people travel, have hobbies (outside food), go shopping (for non-food) or even drive in many cases. All they do is sit around in their houses eating and eating.
A lot of them barely have any clothes as well, so even though their extremely large clothes might be more expensive than normal size clothes, they don't seem to have a lot of them.
They live in squalor a lot of the time and only spend their money on food without ever leaving the house.
She actually means JUNK food...if they gave that away theyd lose half their weight.
Chuck's wife needs intervention as well.
Tiffany having ice cream in the morning she could switch it out for an ice cube and some fruit juice and get about the same kinda feelings. It's the cold shock that gives her a boost.
One of my favorite parts of road trips is visiting local fruit and vegetable stands. I'm legit surprised more people don't do this.
The last woman, Mercedes has this white thing on her lips. I kept thinking it was food, but I think she’s growing another head LOL
😂🤣😂
Merry Christmas from British Columbia, the Okanagan, Canada ❤
I am from the Okanagan too :)
Just got gastric bypass now let’s make deep fried won tons! Ohhh bro!!!! 🤦🏻♀️
Beyond belief isn’t it
Why do you feel the need to narrate??? It’s really annoying that I want to see the clips but have to hear your terrible commentary
450-210 pounds no surgery just dieting and exercise… imagine that; the things we were taught at 6-7 years old really do hold up. These people’s mind set is the on of saddest things honestly. Warping things in your mind to justify your actions is literally crazy
These people are insane. The excuses are crazy! No one gains that much weight from having children. And where do they get their clothes???
I don't feel sorry for any of them.
When I was very sick, I was proof you don't need food everyday. In 1 month time, I survived on a couple teaspoons of applesauce and a saltine cracker daily. Sorry way to lose weight though
These people are always sitting!!!
Sitting to much is exactly why they become so big.
You can’t eat more than you move.
Wanna eat more, move more.
Athletes eat a lot but move more!!!
IT’s physics!!
Your putting the food in your mouth not anyone else
No such thing as "big bones". If you have a tall frame it's up to you to maintain a slim healthy weight.
Who is paying for those months of hospitalization? Months in a hospital is hundreds of thousand of dollars. One night is about five grand.
The network. Just like any other reality show, they want a specific type of subject and pay for that.
No! I had 2 kids I'm not that heavy that's bull
Exactly I have 4 kids and I exercise and am a healthy weight it's the stupidest excuse!!
For my sake and the world’s sake, someone make muumuus to cover these folks. Or tents. I don’t know, but going around exposing themselves is ridiculous.
Hi from Sydney Australia
Hi from Queensland Australia 🇦🇺🐨
Hi from MO, USA
That's addiction, when you change your whole life for just one thing. Everyone likes food and loves great food. But I love so much more than just eating.
It is not the food that’s the issue, its how and why these people eat like they do.
The food is an issue when it's deep-fried, fast food and sugar eaten in astronomical quantities.
You could stuff yourself with lettuce, carrot sticks and broccoli and be much healthier.
Penny looks so high!
Yes she is! 😂😂😂
I have watched the number of these shows and while I feel very sorry for the folks. It seems to me that they want to be babies. They are mostly infantile individuals who truly want to be back in their crib.
Where do they get all the money to eat the amount of food they consume? It must cost a fortune.
The excuses that you hear on these programs from these people are the same time and time again. I think in a lot of these cases people have had emotional damage and while we cannot control some of the crappy things that happen to us we are responsible for getting help for those issues before they manifest themselves and things like food addiction etc.
Dr. Now’s correct about changing the eating habits first then surgery. A guy at my father’s office had the gastric surgery, one day for lunch he ate an entire bucket of fried chicken and off to the hospital he went in an ambulance. The food these people eat is disgusting, they really don’t eat they just shove it in their mouth.
I’m not a doctor/dietician but: PSYLLIUM HUUUUUUSSSSKKKKKKKKK
I swear if ppl knew how beneficial it can be to make you feel FULL, if u take some with lots of water after each calorie controlled meal, it helps bulk out those calories without /adding/ legitimate calories & gives that ‘full’ feeling
And eating tiny portions can slow the size of the stimach from expanding. They need to eat slower too.
Psyllium husks can have terrible side effects for some people- such as diarrhoea, bloating, constipation and gas.
Please seek advice from a Health Professional if you're thinking of making any major changes to your diet.
And of course moderation is always the best way!😊
That wouldn't help these people at all. Seriously- some of them eat 2 large pizzas in one sitting as a single meal and still eat several other extremely large meals (meant for several people) plus various snacks in one day. If feeling full stopped them from eating, they'd have stopped a long time ago. Not one of them ever feels actual hunger. Any sensation they get in their midsection, they interpret as hunger as an excuse to eat but it's almost certainly some kind of digestive thing, normal or distress.

I am, too ! I was born in ST. Thomas,Ontario 😊
My dear old Mom used to keep telling me" You made our bed, now sleep in it" My father used to say " You keep getting wet during camping due to half hearted preparation" Nothing is more true. The same applies here. Being a fat blimp is a choice, just like being super fit is a choice.
it's infuriating to hear dottie say her weight gain is from having two kids, one who's disabled. my babysitter growing up had four kids, one who has cerebral palsy. she was active every day i was at her house and i still see her going for runs to this day. your children are NOT an excuse.
That elaborate contraption is called a "hoist"
Chuck wife could loss some weight herself 😮
How was chuck able to adopt child in his condition even if he has a wife, was in the picture, please enlighten me on why
Why doesnt Dr Now require a photo of every meal and a journal of honesty. Maybe that would make a difference, the person can be dishonest and not photo all the food but they are only fooling themselves. They do not realize how much they ingest. One guy said he did not even know what 800 calories looks like WHILE he is eating a huge burger and fries which is possibly 800 calories as one meal!
I like how the info called her a piggy lol
Genetics have zero to do with obesity, it’s very easy to understand. Don’t eat more than you need , that’s it.
When people use that argument I say if that was true india and China would have a larger fat population percentage than the us
It takes serious *work* to get to 600 pounds, and it takes even more to even maintain or, worse, gain from there. These people are very sick. Once you can use your chest as a dinner table, you have a serious problem.
I love Dr. Now! ♥️ Everything a good doctor should be.
Mom is not on the skinny side y’all!!
Chuck's wife is no light weight.
I have eaten ice cream for breakfast.
One of the few perks of being an adult lol. Once in a great while is no biggie.
So have I.
I prefer something sweet before 12 PM; but not every day, because you have all day to burn it off.
There's some really great low calorie icecream available nowdays anyway.
Like those luxury ones that are only 350 cals in the whole little tub😋
They're so rich I can't eat more than half at a time anyway.
Or just sugar free vanilla in an iced coffee!
Yeah, but not every day.
Hello from Michigan
Help from Upper Michigan
I find it laughably pathetic when these patients act like Dr. Now just fell off a turnip truck & claim he doesn't know what he's talking about. Patients like the Pennys and Paulines who claim that they "know" their bodies & what's "best" for them, they insist they have to do things "their way". Why bother wasting Dr. Now's time if that's their attitude?
People who always want to be comfortable where the rest of us know that sometimes you must make sacrifices too You took much much more than the rest of us, and then you comfort yourself by taking more ? Sorry but I cannot sympathise with that.
...HOW are they able to maintain a menu, AND pay bills to live????
With 95% in the bed all day, I can tell ya, disability ain't doing it.

Well dang Chucks wife should be seeing Dr. Now too😑 she shouldn't complain too much
I keep hearing about the tremendous pain they suffer as a result of all the food they eat. They tell us this in between shoveling in another mouthful of food. They'll have one meal's worth of food in front of them, and it's more than I'll eat in a week, and when they finish it they are still hungry! This is when I feel sick and turn off the video!
Chuck's kid lost the adoption lottery.
Hi from Vancouver Canada 🇨🇦
Have any of these people heard of tough love?? Give them what they need, not what they want!! Keep telling them that you love them and this is why you are only giving them what they need. You may say I don't understand, oh but I do! My oldest son was drug addicted and I tried to help him, but unless they want help, it won't work. Through trial and error and him roller coastering , I finally kicked him out of my house!! He was stealing from me to support his habits!! I told my children, no matter what you do, I will always love you, but if you break the law, I will not hide or take up for you. I believe if you do the crime, you do the time!! I loved him so much, I gave him up to God. He is now 39 years old. He has a good job and doesn't drink anymore. He still smokes pot, which I still do not like, but I am so proud of so many of the hurdles he has jumped. No one is perfect!
