I heard my life ruining, completely unused college degree stir in my book case when you said ludonarrative dissonance
Mmm, ludo-narrative dissonance. That's the good shit right there.
Ludo-narrative dissonance exist, but is never used apropriately, because people abstract the narrative with double standards and "make belive" ideas...
Examples: uncharted 1 to 3 does not feature ludo narrative dissonance, as the narrative give context to the action.
The last of US and uncharted 4 are basically ludo-narrative dissonance made games...
Once upon a time, 2006, bioshock got released and journalists found their favorite punchline
@@gabrieloliveiralima3772
BioShock does not feature ludo-narrative dissonance, bioshock infinite is heavily dissonant tho, and convoluted, and contradicting, and a fanfiction...
Wisecrack. There they use the term often (and correctly).
People: This is tedious and painful and makes you question everything.
Russians: I see this as an absolute win
I tried my best to find a solution to enjoy russian games more by drinking more vodka but it sadly didn't work...I only have the shakes in the morning now
Keeno K have you tried reading a dozen poems about the futility of men while drinking the vodka? It might help
If russians expierences hardship, suffering and vodka, they feel right at home
The most doomer game since... I don't know. Most polish and russian games. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. or Metro maybe.
@@Ner0mancer Stalker is made by Ukrainians not Russians.
So in conclusion: the sequel to the most Russian game ever has somehow become even Russianier...excellent.
Keep in mind: this is a country that, over the course of just about a century, has seen the (thought to be) deadliest world war in history, the deadliest civil war in history, the ACTUAL deadliest world war in history, the disintegration of their government into 15 separate nation-states, and, to top it all off, a recent bout of corruption and economic stagnation. The whole Russian national character, if such a thing can be said to exist, is "embitterment but enlightenment," expressed in a positive way, a sort of "fuck it, what do I have to lose?" optimism. I think that really shines through in the case of Pathologic, especially if you know how the game ends.
Anyhow, that's my take on it. I do tend to get compassionate when it comes to placing media in a greater context lmao.

Conquest of Bread... :)
@@succubusnirriti913 What does the book all about anarcho-communism and humanity's nature as communal beings, written by Russian Santa Claus, have to do with this? Unless you're talking about taking bread in the literal sense, in which case yes, Pathologic is a starvation simulator.
Basically was using an important book, as an euphemism to point out at communism, for Russia's dark historical heritage and inner tragedies. Even in the west the far left seek to redo that ideology.
It did more DEAD than the third reich, yet communism isnt illegal in the west as a whole... tells you a lot about things.
"The Cemetery: You're always welcome here." Damn it's true.
41:15, "It's because the story is so interesting that the intense difficulty of the survival elements bothers me so much". This, is exactly what I feel playing Pathologic 2. My feelings towards the story are basically what an extremely hardworking father feels towards his children when he doesn't have time to connect with them because he's so focused on working to provide for them. In Pathologic, you get so focused on getting resources to survive, to cure your bound and the people in the hospital that you would deliberately ignore any side quests that contain mostly dialogue which offer interesting characterization because you don't have enough TIME.
I started the game being mesmerized by everything, by day 4 and onwards I was just going on a loop of "Gotta eat, gotta sleep, gotta cure, gotta get cured, ain't got time for the story".
Did you end up beating the game eventually?
You're a hell of a salesman Grimmy, just bought it due to your recommendation. I think you recommend it at least? Anyways your unique take on reviewing is the only thing so far that's made me consider purchasing this so job well done.
In Russia towns are usually called like the rivers they're set on. Like the city Volgograd is a city on the river Volga
So Gorkygrad is the name on the town
Thats really interesting, my russian brother from another mother.
Thanks for the trivia, I love learning little things like this about other cultures.
Yeah, one problem with this: there are several ways that name of the town can be derived from the name of the river they stand on. So Gorkhongrad, Gorkhonsk and Gorkhon are all possible names IF the town actually bears it's name from the river.
More like Dorkygrad. Amiright?
Not "are usually", more like "an option, possibly sometimes".
Probably about as usual as in Britain, where you immediatly recall Stratford-upon-Avon and, counting prominent cities, that's pretty much it.
@@VadBlackwood Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Stoke-on-Trent.
But yeah, it's not so common. And mostly it's just a way of differentiating towns whose names are otherwise the same; we also have Newcastle-under-Lyme.
And yes, I found your amazing channel because, in a drunken haze, I bought Pathologic HD and, the next day, wondered what fresh hell I had forced into my life.
I am eternally thankful for that blackout purchase.
Alcohol guides you towards real slav energy
Don't shame Haruspex for stress eating, it's a very unpleasant week for him, alright???
Just. Thank you for engaging with the game on its level. Not sure I agree with this one being better at teaching the player its concepts - but the prologue does give its best to be engaging and memorable.
First Pathologic was a bit more comprehensive, yes. But both games are absolutely brilliant in my opinion.
Really great and fair review of the game. Pathologic 2 is propably the only game I ever pre-ordered that was truly worth its money (but I haven't really pre-ordered many games throughout my life). I loved every second of it (except maybe the Abbatoir, that was somewhat frustrating). It was everything I wanted and even more. I only ever finished the Bachelor in the original Pathologic. And while I do love Pathologic, I have no desire to ever play it again. It was really tedious and slow. One time I actually fell asleep playing it. Pathologic 2 is still slow, but far less so than the original. I also found Pathologic 2 to be more difficult and stressful than the original. By being like this it really eradicated any potential for boredom because one is constantly on edge, anxious and worried. There's so much to do, so many clues to follow and so many people to save, all while having so little time and also being on the verge of starvation and exhaustion. It's brilliant. I managed to do every main and sidequest in the original without feeling too stressed, but Pathologic 2 forced me to prioritise and sacrifice. Also the "idea-web" or whatever you call it is a really great and interesting take on a quest-menu and I hope that more games do something similar.
The setting is also something that I really adore. It's such a weird and unique culture that feels really fleshed out, organic and alive. So much effort went into creating this weird mythology and it's legends and language. And it really paid off.
I also agree with you that the game conveys its story and themes more effectively than the original. The story was there and it was great, but easy to miss between flowery prose, endless sentences and it's janky presentation. At times it was hard to actually understand why you are doing something. P2 delivered it's story and themes really effective. I was completely engaged and understood why I was doing something and how it's connected to other things and what I'm actually supposed to do next without blatantly telling me.
And while I do really love this game, I completely understand why most people won't. What I find appealing is a complete turn off for others. It is hard, hostile, unaccessible, depressing and stressful, while also being really janky and game-y. And most people aren't into that, in the same way that many people aren't into Eastern-European holocaust dramas. Without wanting to sound pretentious, Pathologic 2 is more art than entertainment. The kind of art that doesn't want to look nice or evoke positive or sublime emotions, but rather shock, horrify and discomfort. You said it well: "If we're going to get a masterpiece of gaming it's on this track". While I think that we already had a few masterpieces so far, Pathologic 2 is incredibly ambitious and aims to achieve something bigger. I hope that either Ice Pick Lodge or some other developer manages to build on those ideas and ambitions and deliver something that can be universally considered as a masterpiece.
I really love this game and I'm actually looking forward to playing it again. I'm also really excited for the other characters and I hope that this game is successful enough so that the developers can continue doing their thing.
To be fair, Bachelor route seems to be designed that way. Even the player character has dialogue choices regarding it, like "wtf are you talking about?". It actually works in the game's favour, since being outsider, whom big families just use as a pawn, Bachelor also becomes frustrated and angry towards the town and same thing happened to me. I almost wanted them all to die, lol.
Then during Artemy story I cared more about the town, understood it and the lore surrounding it. Narrative and gameplay mechanics supported each other: Artemy has much more going on with his organ & herbal brewery.
@@gronndar Oh yeah, you are completely right. I kinda forgot that. Towards the end of the game I was so apathetic towards the town and really couldn't give a shit about any of its inhabitants, especially after the powers-that-be invited me to the Polyhedron.
The fact that ones own confusion about the plot of a game is actually part of the narrative is so fucking amazing and mindblowing.
@@McKampfschnitzel97 yeah I’m on my third play through now and I’m only on day 5, but I literally have no concern for the outcome of the town that expects me to save them, but constantly works against me. The only thing I really care about now is self preservation and the survival of the 8 people on Isidors list. And something else, I started the game telling myself that I was going to be as pacifist as possible and only kill people in self defense, but now I actively prey on thieves just for daring to go out at night and look for people to steal from
The second time I played this game, I switched off the intended difficulty and set everything to as easy as possible. On the first day I was nearly skipping with my hands in my pockets marvelling at the time and food I had left. That very quickly changed. The game became easier but it somehow never lost its challenge and its oppressive atmosphere. That's an amazing feat by ice pick lodge.
You should play The Void, its on steam and its another Ice Pick Lodge game that from what I hear is also pretty weird and hard.
Pathologic 2 is legitimately the best game I have played in the past decade.
While I did not have as much "fun" with it as I did with RDR2 or Breath of the Wild or Stardew Valley... no game has drawn me in like Pathologic 2 did in a very long time. It's a true masterpiece, and it is a real shame that it is one so many will never experience, and just as many would never give a chance if they did.
I feel like those who appreciate Pathologic 2 _really_ appreciate it though at least. Easily my game of the decade. I remember people extolling how great yet impenetrable the first Pathologic game was on gamefaqs back when it came out, and always meant to try it but never did. I'm kinda glad I didn't and waited for Pathologic 2.
I _want_ to tell people to play it, to not touch the difficulty, to practice and 'git gud' and immerse yourself in the story and world... but you have to want to. This is not a game you throw on for a good time and a relaxing day after work. This is the video game equivalent of a heady art movie that really makes you think and leaves you stunned and silent for the rest of the day afterward. Some people just don't like that kind of experience.
Pathologic 2 isn't a game you play, it's a game you experience.
Lord Mandalore sent me here and I'm glad he did, time to dive into your backlog.
hope you find a delaigthfull experience good sir.
Fuckin Sweet, thanks for making this
(btw, you can exit the craft screen after starting the brew - it'll continue to brew and you can do other things)
Thank fuck for that. If they hadn't designed it that way, now that would be true sadism.
I got rock hard when I saw a 44 minute long grim beard review.
Mandalore sent me.
You got a new sub, this was really great.
I'm subbed to you too ;)
Hbomberguy also has a good breakdown of the game
Oh hi Weekend
This is a wonderful review.
"This is the road we need to be on" is such a great view on the future of games. I'd love to see Ice-Pick's stuff get wider recognition. They really are my favourite studio, they make my favourite games, and my favourite art.
Again - a really great review.
You're one of the few tubers that has the chops to take on Pathologic Grim. I think I will just experience the dark frustration vicariously through you for this game. You've made me cancel my Microsoft Word subscription to patronize you instead, and my word means something.
Wow this is an incredibly grim amount of content! Watching this at work and my boss just happens to walk past @3:05...
Even a broken knife is faster and better than your Fists! Forget the revolver, trash! Shotgun all the way!
"*sigh* i didnt know that kid from my minecraft sever was that young." made me laugh pretty hard :)
"i am not mad at you"
Oh, nice
"I am mad at Russia, to be honest"
....
Also, some shortcuts are accessible through jumping. You can reach Notkin's base from railroad faster, for example. But it is mostly useless still
I adore this game, even as it made me question my sanity and blood pressure.
This series is my aesthetic, as strange as that may sound. I haven't gotten around to this one yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I "enjoyed" the HD version of the first game quite a lot, but the improvements and easier difficulty options of this version would go a long way to help me "enjoy" going through it again. I wish we'd somehow managed to get one of the other two characters first, though, as I liked them more.
Bro, for someone who's been doing this for so long, you have amazingly few subscribers, which just points out to me you're a guy who won't compromise. That's CHARACTER, man!
I always thought 'knowing the lines' was because you're the protagonist 'the star of the play' since this is all a play that metatextually expressing itself right?
38:09
WOAH! This game has dialogue choices?
I'm buying right now!
Honestly it's my favourite game of that year (and I believe DMC5 came out the same year). It's a deep, interesting and tense survival horror game. The story is especially great in its original language, but the translation is fantastic this time as well.
uploaded 30 minutes ago. i should be studying, but you know. new upload.
How the fuck does this guy have UNDER 10 000 subscribers? The quality of his content is extremely high and he's been doing it for ages.
Fuck me. The world is unfair.
Then you see people like Morgz, whos getting millions of views and subscribers for being autistic on camera, and you really dont wanna live anymore
Being a youtuber sucks like that, more often than not the quality of your content matters little compared to dumb luck. It's part of why I only release videos when I feel like it, now, and when I have something good enough to release. No one was watching anyway, so might as well take my time.
10/10
"I had no fun at all, would definitely recommend"
Me boy, you should really review the game based on “The Thing” it’s a murder mystery with tough boi soldiers and eldritch horrors
Never clicked on a video this fast ever before.
"But that means braving possible and almost inevitable seeming infection, no matter how much you prepare yourself with protective clothing and immunity boosters ... every second you spend there is putting you in danger." Also known as going out shopping in 2021.
Thanks for the review! Out of curiosity, are you planning to look at The Void as well? Personally I think it still remains Ice Pick's best game, even taking into account this remake.
You know... I keep hearing that the game is not supposed to be fun to play. Well, having just finished it I have to say I loved playing it. At times it induced stress and anxiety for sure but it was definitely fun. Maybe I´m just sadistic :D
Masochistic you mean
Okay, but what is 3:05? I have to know! For science!
This game is a fantastic series of interwoven currencies, all either directly fed by your limited Time or in some way affecting it.
Figuring out those exchange rates and what/when to "trade" is the fun. You could build a cork conspiracy board about how it all ties together, mechanically and plotwise and the overlap between the two.
I couldn't get through P1 as either of the initially available characters without tapping out, but P2 is enjoyable even when it's miserable.
Well I was on the fence about grabbing patho 2 because I beat the first one but it looks like enough has changed to warrant buying it. Glad you did another pathologic video Grimmy. 100% right the game isnt "fun" in the traditional sense. Edit: feels good being the only tier 6
just like some of my favorite movies are painful, so should be my favorite games
the really interesting thing about pathologic 2 is how many people went through this process with it 1) played pathologic 1 and didn't like it or get it 2) played pathologic 2 and figured it out and appreciated it 3) replayed pathologic 1 and thought it was better than 2.... its really odd how that works.
I have not played 1 but I have played 2 to near death. I'm a few achievements off from 100%. I'm desperate for more Pathologic 2 and the Marble's Nest DLC has done nothing for me. So is Pathologic 1 worth playing coming from Pathologic 2 or is 2 so much of an upgrade that 1 isn't worth my time?
@@TheXenoxen its definitely worth it. a bit more unforgiving but not nearly as hard to figure out after playing 2. you'll get the main campaign (bachelor) and then the bonus campaign with the changeling so way more content. in some ways i prefer 1's atmosphere. if you really love 2 then you'll like 1
3:06 I have a certain mentality. Who can tell me what game this is?
I need to share this because no other humans I know can tolerate this game.
I managed to get just enough Schmowders for everyone. Notkin got sick, for at least the second time, and I made the mistake of going to on and skipped forward to his death. I finished the damned game with one spare Schmowder and my favourite boy dead. His theatre reflection is perhaps the saddest one, to me, for he was still a little boy in spite of his pretenses of adulthood.
That's rough. I shed my inventory out of respect for The People directly outside of... the place... and the time skip meant it wasn't there by the time I could get back to it. I was irked, but I think you probably suffered more.
10:55 -- If you ever come out with a novelization of all your reviews, please consider "An Imperceptible Ass: The Best of Grim Beard" as a title. Thanks. You are loved.
You also need to "know the lines", as in knowing the words you are supposed to deliver. As the game reveals, you are in a play, and each protagonist has a role in the play. Or I'm completely high and don't know what I'm talking about. That's almost always a possibility.
I heavily, HEAVILY suspect you're correct. There's a conversation near the end that recontextualizes maybe a quarter of your earlier ones in a "Oh, that makes sense, why wasn't I paying attention to [element of conversation], what did I say ten days ago, how much have I messed up by not [paying the right kind of attention] earlier?" kind of way.
Did you make a review of 'The Void' ?
It's from the same guys who made Pathologic
Not gonna lie, I would watch the hell out of an entire playthrough of you playing this game because theres NO WAY in hell I will play it, but you make this game sound damn amazing and provocative.
I have never had a more dread inducing experience in a game than I had staring at my map in Pathologic 2, trying to think of some optimal route that could get me through the town and to everywhere I needed to be that day and realising it was physically impossible without dying of exhaustion.
These fuckers made a map screen more engaging than half the games I've played and that's a fucking achievement

I love this game, its a masterpiece imo. It blends puzzle elements with a fantastic story and dialogue. The surreal amount of difficulty and pain is to me, like a darksouls esque challenge. I mean, “should” you play darksouls at lvl 1 and try to never get hit? Probably not because its extremely hard. Same here, you arent meant to complete the game perfectly on your first try, its the darksouls of puzzles. Its a real time (and i do mean real, the game almost never truly pauses), action puzzler, where your choices are which organs do you want to shove in your pockets, and how many villagers can you kill each night. You have to be a detective like batman mixed with the killer drive of jack the ripper… its the perfect place to exert your own brand of cruelty, since the game wants to be cruel to you, you just have to be twice as cruel back
Bro omfg...I just finished watching this and decided to buy it, and literally missed the ps4 sale by minutes.
It actually still said" sale" (67% off!)on the store page, and I was really excited ! I was thinking this is ment to be for me to get the game! ...
...then when I went to purchase it, the sale was gone...it said sale ends jan. 20.
I was really bummed..enough so ,that I didn't get it...not yet anyway... :(
Don’t feel bummed, the PS4 and Xbox One ports are horrifically bad on a technical level with constant slowdown, lag, glitches, and long load times even just walking across different districts in the open world. It’s frankly an insult to the PC version.

I love your vids Grim and I love Mandalores vids but I can separate my fondness for UA-camrs I am fond of and seeing a game that is not even remotely something I am going to enjoy. The only way im playing this is if I go down the Russian road of, umm, suspicious link downloads. Da!

Pathologic is basically the Texhnolyze of video games.
It's interesting how many "challenging"(in both difficulty and playability) games I've seen you play through, yet this was the breaking point.
Personally, I don't find Pathologic to be harder or more frustrating than Shadow of Chernobyl. But the difficulties and frustrations are different ones and I'd honestly rather replay Pathologic because I'm bad at FPSes.
Broooo
You can use the jump to take shortcut on various places. And since you are the inly one who monopoly the knowledge of jumping, it can be even useful in combat. Though I haven’t really exploit it combat-wise but it certainly possible.
"Well wait a second, I remembered that jumping is pointless."
You sure about that? Maybe I'm just more exploratory than you, but there were a handful of times when I found myself stuck in the collision geometry, and the only way out was to jump. Other times it was the only way to get through some small gaps when being chased by muggers or when trying to exit an infected district quickly. So jumping is only helpful in some specific situations, but in those situations it is in fact extremely helpful.
I stop looking at UA-cam for 5 minutes and this is what I find?! Awesome ~
That's an amazing birthday present for me. Dropped everything to watch this!
Plz make a video on Devotion, by Red Candle Games. It's not on steam anymore but you can find it online.

Everyone should try this game. Yes it's rough around the edges but it's still a gem! Challenging with deep lore and a great story. Support Ice Pick so they can keep bringing new games!
Oh shit, I was jumping on the dead bodies down stair at the very start of the tutorial and realized it's the kids.
8 beds in a row, only 1 is empty. I can't believe I didn't realize this, I've played through this game more then I'm comfortable admiting.
" it reminds you: You're in a game. You're not in control We make up the rules. So don't get comfortable."
So, the life in Russia basically.
A lot of your advice about this game is just solid life advice. I keep coming back to: "If it's unbearable, change it!"
That really speaks to my depression.
The Ulysses joke was spot-on. You gotta read Ulysses like you play Pathologic: consider their (experimental) intent beyond the limitation of their chosen art form. They're not just enjoyment or escapism and don't have obligations to be after a certain point. A lot of people don't want that out of their books or games, and that's cool. Some do. Also cool. Buy Pathologic 2. Read Ulysses if you want to I guess? Or just the Sirens chapter.
As I was thinking about how nobody cares for me "Nobody Cares About You" line appeared on screen. This means it's a predestination kind of thing, right?
Dont do it, bro
Reality is rough
currently about 20 hours in, and stress simulator is about right, the traveller gave me the option to remove the penalties for dying but at an unknown cost, I am not looking forward to finding out what it could be :p great review btw!
:p yes, now replaying the game haha
I played it on the hardest difficulty as intended by the developers, got to day 7 and was I doing fairly good, all things considered, head above water, for the most part. I thought I would give myself a small break and adjust a few sliders in my favour. The next day my saves got corrupted.
Thank you, Pathologic 2.
The way you describe the game welcoming you in a passive-aggressive way, kinda paints you like the Haruspex.
You know, every time one of these comes out, I always think, 'Damn I love this dude'. If I had more money i'd give you a bunch. But I really don't. A shame for me AND for you really.
You can jump some small stuff that would block you in a walk and take shortcuts. This is actually one of my 2 all time favorite games released in this generation of gaming next to Kingdom Come both due to it's world and how it breaks the mold of games, I always rant on to my friends that the formulaic games of today are almost insulting, like they need to hold my hand and consistantly reward me, with no regard of the art of creation for the all mighty dollar. All I want is more of this world everytime I finish this or the HD one.
Difficulty settings are an odd one. People take it personally like you ruin the intention of a game, but you just can't gauge the relative difficulty.
Something that could come across as easy & obvious to me can be super hard to someone who doesn't play as many games as I do.
And then, I have a full-time job & a family, so keeping track of quests, locations & even button/key inputs is a lot harder than someone with less real world responsibility. Someone who can spend more time dedicated to a game is going to have an easier time if it.
All that is small potatoes compared to someone with a disability.
One person's easy can be another's hard & the reverse is that one person's easy is the other person's impossible.
So maybe, sliding all the difficulty down to the easiest settings can BE the developer's intention after all. No?
"So maybe, sliding all the difficulty down to the easiest settings can BE the developer's intention after all. No?"
Well no, since developers added difficulty options later, since people thought game was too hard.
New video. Yes, yes, YES!!!!
23:03 I don't know if that reload animation is all that realistic. Why on earth would he have to rotate the chamber after inserting each bullet? It's not like the holes are covered.

Pathologic 2 is the video game adaptation of Pathologic
so should I skip playing Pathologic classic HD and just play Pathologic 2 ?
I haven’t played the game but I am likely to get it based on your own narrative about it.
Having just given Life is Strange a run and observed the emotional investment it demanded of me, and now being switched on to this anti-dopamine stoical dope, I think you are ultimately right about the changing nature and purpose of video games. We all know what those few minutes are like after we come out of the cinema, even into the darkling evening, that allow us to keep the canister of the film briefly in our hands as we let the grains of truth it contained, as artificial as microscrub particles though they are, spill out slowly from it to add to the actual weight of the world - I am guessing that what this game seeks also to achieve is presaging that post-game experience while in-game, allowing you to savour the new taste of the world before it is newly served to you once you have left.
Films did this with popcorn. Video games of this sort want to ply us rather with bile: but which is nearer to the aroma of the real world, both before and after the satiety of their respective narratives? And which preps your emotions, sensibilities and perceptions for that experience out here, better?
Love your style of review!

You’re hilarious man. Once youre firmly in the algo youre gonna EXPLODE
Love your channel!
I play it on the most generous difficulty settings because I got to day 3 before realising you could do so and simply found it controller snappingly hard, I love it though I would laugh hysterically when entering a new area and seeing “no one cares about you” on screen.
On ps4 it has a bad problem with load times though, god help you if you cross an area border then see something you want in the previous one and it crashed several times on longer play sessions.
Honestly compared to even fromsofts games this made Bloodborne look easy, I used to rate the from titles as the hardest games but now if a friend talks about how hard a boss or area in DS3 for example I just say “you think thats hard?!” Its really quite amazing, Pathalogic 2 is the Dark souls of hard games! 🤣
Wait did she just say. "Hatred is hard work" ... lol see I don't know how to break it to you but ....
What's the name of the game a 3:05 ?
Holy shit! I just realized that megastructure on the right side of the map is a heart! You can see the valves of it on the map screen... That's so fucking cool!!!
you dont have to censor breast in videogames on youtube.
Comparing films to games is unfair cause filmmakers had literature and theatre to draw from.
Games are interactive which is completely uncharted territory.
Writers, filmmakers, playwriters have NO IDEA how to tell a story when the audience is in control.
Storytelling in videogames is so much harder cause there is literally nothing else to draw from.
Love your videos, they are the best. At 1:33, you use "inhibit stress" and I think you mean something like "incite stress". "inhibit" means to restrain, which is the opposite of what you mean.
Climbing out of a coffin and asking if you want to roll the dice: a perfect metaphor for the game, and for life itself.
