I think loving a flawed game makes sense, if there are redeemable aspects to it. I adore Arcanum, I played Halo Reach for years, and this game seems the kind of flawed gem with dedication behind it which one could come to enjoy and even recall fondly in spite of it's major issues. At times it's good to like crippled things.
@@Exigentable I still think overall Reach was a good experience ,which I enjoyed way more than Halo 3 (the game felt "rushed" to me, where as Reach's pace and ending felt better). I have gotten too old to really get involved with videogames, but I don't want Halo to die in dishonour: may Halo Infinite be a good last chapter...but, alas, I fear they will milk those rings harder than a cow. Dude, love your content. The music, the editing, the chuckles, all stellar. You deserve more subs and we'll be here to see you rise. Keep up the awesome stuff, hope you're doing well.
Hmm.... well, one of the things that happens in Vampire is the loss of Humanity, and the rise of The Beast. You could say his desperate desire to hold on to his love is his attempt to retain his humanity, which as a holy warrior of god you could say he had a tenuous hold on to begin with.
Christopher following Catherine's orders pretty much without question is actually explained by in-world idea of bloodbond; any vampire who drinks the blood of another vampire becomes more and more subservient to them. First level (strong feeling, be is disgust or adoration) on the sire gained automatically on the Embrace. Catherine, clever old Bruja she is, immediately bonds Christopher the second time on his awakening, meaning he cannot really deny her orders.
This game was my first introduction to the talented voice acting talent of Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, who voiced Ecaterina the Wise. I remember playing this back when I was around 12 or 13. I was so fascinated and blown away by the game, lore, and voice acting, but especially the brief venture into the Jewish Quarter to stop the golem, that for my Bar Mitzvah party I had all of the tables representing the various vampire clans each with their own symbol. My mom even hand-painted each one and on both sides of the card-stock. It was really fun telling invitee's to "sit at the Tzimisce table". I've never played the table-top, but I remain a fan on the entire VtM lore to this day. With that said, I was never any good at this game and the combat was really unforgiving. I was always out of money, blood, and getting absolutely wrecked by enemies after the Nosferatu tunnels. There wasn't much explanation of the different stats or disciplines at the time. I would almost always play with cheats until GameFaqs came along with magic exploits and that a high charisma one could sell at a higher price which made the games slightly more playable. I also never understood how to identify weapons or items back then so I'd drink a vitae never understanding why it was hurting me or a weapon was causing me to Frenzy until I finally learned to identify and that it was diseased. Strangely, my favorite part was as a human. I always liked doing cheats and accessing all of the human armor, weapons, and magic that is normally inaccessible that early in the game. Or spawning in a pistol and selling it to a medieval blacksmith for 37 gold! But really, as a human it was fun being slowly introduced to the VtM world from an outsiders perspective. I felt like I connected with Christof greatly during those early portions as I was just as much clueless as Christof was. I kind of wish the human segment was slightly longer so those components were more implemented other than the defunct multiplayer. I am very excited for the fan-remake!
"The cute one with the glove" is exactly how I describe Mitsoda to people, heh. He did an interview with Noclip a while back where he was basically a walking cosplay of Dante from Devil May Cry, and it was _guhlorious_.

I have discovered your channel only two days ago and I really enjoy the longer, in-depth reviews format you've adopted in your more recent videos. I remember playing this game back in the early 2010s and while the story wasn't much to write home about, the gameplay always stood out to me despite its glaring flaws of trying to emulate Diablo but with a party of characters. It felt refreshing to discover an old game that offered so much freedom while playing as a vampire, whereas so many more modern games use such characters to impose heavy, often unfunny, restrictions on the player's enjoyment or to coax you into specific traversal mini-games that make you feel pathetically underpowered. It was very easy to take advantage of some exploits involving blood enhancing accessories, as well as accumulating all sorts of Disciplines, which the game treats as basic RPG spells in complete contrast with the setting's clan specific abilities, utterly obliterating any sense of challenge. It's certainly unbalanced and tedious at times, and the modern portion of the setting was pretty underwhelming in comparison to Medieval Prague, yet it managed to leave me both satisfied and craving more such different experiences at the same time.
Somehow you always seem to upload right when i'm wondering when there's going to be another excellent Grimbeard video. Great work as always, you erudite chubby little prince of knowledge, you.
