I can't wait for more people to review the ForMovie UST that just came out recently. It has such a low pricepoint and beats out the more expensive competitors in most of the categories....hopefully you get one to review @Build Montage
Three lasers have the ability provide wider coverage of the DCI-P3 color space without using a filter . Removing the filter should allow for increased lumens and better HDR performance .
Yes this is true, the colour filter does improve the colours at the sacrifice of brightness. The Chroma is bright- and most USTs are so close to the screen it doesn't impact too much as they light doesnt have very far to travel.
great vid as usual,24fps & Dolby Vision are a must i think, still twisted whether to hit this or the LG C1 83" my room will be a blacked out dedicated one so its all down to Vava & their next significant updates..
I think it's a good option. Personally its my daily driver, and works really well. For single laser I'd pick the BENQ V7050i but for tri-laser, I prefer the Chroma over the Samsung - the black levels I feel are much better.
Nobody ever mentions how projectors are reflected light, vs the direct light of a TV. It’s like shining a flashlight on the wall vs directly in your face. It’s so much more comfortable on the eyes to use a projector, probably safer too.
Tony, have you actually found an ultra short throw that has good contrast and black levels, or are they still very poor? Still the better reason to buy a bulb based ceiling mount instead...
Yes, this one is pretty decent as is the Benq v7050i. What I will say is more dependant on black levels is the screen. I have a .6 gain CLR screen and it helps immensely with the black levels not being washed out. It’s not perfect but for a casual space it’s great.
Most UST are great. The Casiris A6 is VERY bright but daylight kills any projector - you need a good conditions in your room and an ALR screen to get the best results.
Hi Tony looking at getting a colour checker want to make sure I can do via the hardware can your one do that as well haven’t seen anyone do a project colour calibration yet? You should do one
I haven’t done one because I’m not a pro. My way is just the way I’ve learned and I get pretty good results but there are much better vids out there than I could make. Maybe one day though if I get good enough at it :)
Great review I bought the chroma based off your review almost a rear ago. Love it. The only gripe I have is the Gosting and lack of detail in low light scenes. They claim they fixed the ghosting issue but it’s not the case. The ghosting is only fixed in game mode. In all others modes it’s still pretty bad. I really hope they fix this issue as it’s the only thing holding it back. Until they fix it I’d say go for the Formovie Theater UST projector. It’s cheaper handles Dolby vision and 120 FPS with 2800 ANSI Lumens .
Thank you, side question I now have to adjust my VAVA with keystone, 4 ticks left/right in and 5 ticks up. I know I should be able to answer myself by viewing, but do you think this amount of correction is negligible?
It is fine to keystone if you can't get it squared up. Minimal is ideal. As soon as you keystone you do affect the clarity even if its just one increment.
I personally think this keystoning thing saying it effects the image to a noticeable degree is garbage I keystone my LSP9T and there is no difference the picture is amazing with zero distortion or loss of quality.
@@silkskinz it does make a huge difference. It squashes pixels into other pixels and you also end up with a halo. Small adjustments are fine though but once you make big corrections it’s noticeable. It’s like taking a 1:1 image on a TV and then zooming or moving the image around inside that screen. The light still hits the pixels on the edge.
@@BuildMontage Granted that maybe true but this garbage about not using it at all for any reason is crap if you saw my image you would not be able to tell the difference.
Terrific review. Love the details. I needed someone to ramp me up on this new tech. I am wondering about the ongoing Kickstarter UST projector from Phillips. It's single laser, and I'm not a big fan of extra noise. I have a dedicated theater room, so I don't need an expensive screen I don't think :) What do you think?
@@BuildMontage Awesome. I found out its a single laser. not a show stopper, but I'll have to see some reviews before I make the jump onto the Phillips. Thanks!
The settings won't matter for you unfortunately - every unit is different but also it's very room dependant. My room, and screen, will impact the way it's calibrated. Even if you tried them it wouldn't work. You need a sensor that can read the light output from your screen. Hope that helps.
I have a rookie question: if my pc is 60hz of frame rate and I connect it to this projector, if the game supports 120 hz it will project on 120hz? Or 60hz that is the max my pc can handle?
However, a tri-laser projector has some cons too: Tri-laser projectors are more expensive than single-laser projectors. Tri-laser projectors are more complex to set up than single-laser projectors. This is because they have three lasers instead of one.
Don’t forget the EWaste argument I would also love for you to do a “bit” on what USTs are like for power consumption over TVs and Traditional Projectors
