Television in a bright room still has issues. I still witness the massive amount of glare blocking a picture perfect image on a TV in a room with a ton of ambient light. On a projector however, there is no such issue. Sure, the image is faded some, but I can still see the WHOLE IMAGE and not a small portion that is not blocked by glare. Glare also comes around during a dark scene in your favorite movie/show/game. You end up missing the scene and instead you are watching yourself sitting on the couch with friends staring at the TV. In a dimly lit room, a lamp or fan light will ALWAYS find it's way to block the image on screen while watching. This reason alone made me ditch TVs forever. Ultra Short Throw technology is getting better and better. Lastly, someone should create a video demonstrating someone walking a 120" flat panel TV into a house vs a 120" projector....how many friends are you going to be yelling at as you walk through the door way with 120" fragile HEAVY flat panel screen?
I bought a Panasonic 65" Oled shortly before the pandemic and considering my previous TV was a Sony 32" CRT, I was blown away with the image quality. Recently I went to watch Shang Chi with my daughter at the local cinema (which was just renovated during the pandemic), first movie we saw following the pandemic. I agree that the cinema screen is bigger and more immersive but even my daughter noticed that my home TV image is way better than even a larger cinema screen. The colours are pale compared to my Oled and I can't even compare the contrast and black levels. I don't know if it's just me but I will always choose an Oled TV over any projector now, being ultra short throw or regular projector.
Yeah cinema projectors def aren’t the best. I have an epson 5050UB at home and the picture quality on it is miles better than all the cinema projectors I’ve seen. Pretty sure it just gets better when you go to JVC and Sony true 4K projectors. With regards to OLEDs I have the new C1 at home as well and I’ll say it’s pretty close. Obviously you can’t get the infinite contrast but when I was watching squid games on a 150 inch screen, that’s a whole different experience. Same for movies. Each have their own perks but you definitely can’t compare OLEDs to movie theater projectors and generalize that to all home cinema projectors.
I have an LG OLED and a JVC NX7 projector. The projector is about 90% of the OLED but at 140 inches 2:39. I would never go back to a television for movie viewing until you can buy 2:39 television at 140 inches. The price would be around $100k for that size of an OLED panel. I could not afford it even if they made one.
I think once I get a couple more under my belt I will do a shootout - the main thing for me is I don't like to create brand rivalries. But I will do an objective and subjective video in the near future - thanks for watching.
Seen your setup with the wall speakers. Can this setup be done with the ALR screen in front using the short-T-projector??.. thank you and great video how you press point each key topic👊👍👊👍
I’m struggling with this very decision at the moment. 85 inch TV, 120 UST or 120 ceiling mounted. I could do speakers behind the screen, I’m just not sure if I want the usability hassle or expense of a projector.
Usability wise it's no harder than a TV. It will likely have CEC so you can switch everything off and on with a single button and once it's in place, it will work perfectly. If you want 120" go projector for sure!
my room is small a 60" TV or screen is already very immersive. I was watching movie, it totally draw me into the movie, Guardian of the Galaxy 2, I didn't realize my family are calling for me. haha. I am sitting at max distance of 2 metre, wall to wall.
I really like the idea of a UST, I can build a floating tv stand with built in floor rising projector. 85" screen/ projector is all I can fit on my wall, so I'm not sure the cost is worth it. But I love the idea of everything being hidden away and reveal itself with a push of the button.
For the eyes is better the UST because the light you receive is indirect, the TV just throws the light directly to your eyes and that causes more eye fatigue.
I always think that a projector is better than a tv capable of a 4K to 8K image and great video as always mate and I’m from the north coast of nsw Australia
Tony is right that the picture quality of a high end television is better than any projector except for maybe the Christie Eclipse projector. And who the heck can afford that 🤣😭😅. I still agree with Tony that for movies there is no substitute for the size and cinematic experience you get with a projector.
It's all about the use case and which feature you value most - dollar saving? large screen? cinematic performance? gaming? - some will say best of both worlds. Thanks for watching.
So true. I personally think the next evolution will be TVs that roll up and that can be 150" - or fixed panels or panels we can add to on a wall. The main issue with panels is audio and speaker placement. Thanks for watching.
I think UST will intrigue me until I have one in my home. I don’t have a good location for one currently, but it gives the technology some time to improve input latency and for pricing to (hopefully) come down Loved the outro music!
Yes, that's exactly is - unless you can get an AT screen it will be quite hard to get a center channel in place. In my case, an ALR screen AT is doable but I can't do an in wall center as I have a beam running right through the middle of the wall - AND - I can't exactly extend the screen out further. So underneith it is!
Great video Tony! Plenty of information to think about for those looking to make the choice. Personally I like the immersive feel that the UST Projectors give.
Hey Tony thank you for your knowledge as always. Have you any experience or know about the Sony HT-A9? They may be helpful with the short throw projector as there is only 4 speakers but mimics a 7.1.4. It would be good to hear any feedback you might have or the opportunity for a video.
Hi Mark - no I haven't heard it - I know of it though - I have a Sony soundbar for my bedroom but I'm all about channel count - the more speakers in the right places the better :) I'm also about compromises as well, so if it's the best you can get then it's good enough :D
The one thing you sort of mention in this video are UST screens, but unless I missed it, you do not include the cost of the what can be a very expensive UST screen. The lowest i've seen are some Elite CineGray 100-120 or the Aeon CineGray3D, for around $5-700 ish... If you think that spending more will get you more, or does it really?? Because screens still seem to be black magic in relation to their cost, when some easily seem to clear the $1-2K mark. While a UST plus screen cost still does not come close to the cost of current large screen flat panels you noted, they can add up over the lower cost 75-85 IN models or even the higher end models that are about the 3K range and the max OLED I think is around 83 IN weighing in at $5K. But if curse, as you noted no UST is not going to match an OLED or perhaps some other high end panel. I'd really like to see some comparisons for reasonable priced UST screens under $1K that will work for UST and perhaps even be reasonably easy to assemble, some reviews seem to note some are harder than another... and also understand why some other screens are out of sight in relation to cost.
Hi, I have assembled a few screens, I have a couple of videos - the 100" VAVA ALR Pro is by far the best screen I've ever assembled. Video is on my channel page.
Great video, been waiting for something like this. Seems like my opinion is the same without owning any UST. Regardless of the quality that cinema feel with projection is just something on its own.

I'm halfway through scripting this exact video and boom!! Lol. Great minds think alike I suppose. 😁😁 Great video
That’s hilarious!! Quick release it and then they can recommend each other haha! 😂
A lot of very valid fantastic points Tony. Very well thought out and helpful video...cheers!
Thanks brother!
Samsung LSP9T with the 130inch Stewart Screen Gray matte70 or Black hawk UST hands down the best setup
The LS9PT is insanely good. Best one I've demo'd so far. The BENQ is the best for black levels though I will say.

I have to disagree. Own a oled and jvc 4k projector. The jvc is pretty darn close...

Question? If you have a 4k av receiver, and 1080p projector. What content will be displayed on screen?
1080p - it can only be the maximum of your minimum :)
@@BuildMontage thanks, keep up the good work.
What is the sweet spot size for an immersive experience?
I think this most depends on your seating distance. The closer you are, the more immersive.
Can you do a video ranking all the USTs you've used once you're done reviewing all the ones you have? I'm definitely interested in one.
Yes of course if you have the speakers behind with an ALR acoustic screen it would work 100% - if love to do that if I could!
Thanks you for the quick reply.. much success to you , in all future projects👍

I say yes ust projector can replace tvs if they are done right
I have seen really good things about the PX1-Pro in regards to gaming for UST.
u need a home theater room... else light creep in spoil the UST projector experience. A decent sound system complete the whole setup.
Depends - I have just installed an Elitescreens Aeon CLR which works very will in almost full light.
my room is small a 60" TV or screen is already very immersive. I was watching movie, it totally draw me into the movie, Guardian of the Galaxy 2, I didn't realize my family are calling for me. haha. I am sitting at max distance of 2 metre, wall to wall.

Good topic. Have to decide also.
Great 👍 video mate .
Thanks 👍

This is how I feel as well. Less fatiguing than a TV and more cinematic too.
Is there coming a new Video with the 120“ ALR Screen and an updated Chroma? 😇 thanks for the great Video. Greetings from Germany 👋🏻👋🏻
Hopefully very soon! I'm waiting for my new cabinet so I can place everything at the correct distances.
Link for the gold potted plants please?
They are from IKEA website - you should find them easily - I dont know the link as i bought them in person.
@@BuildMontage thanks man!
I always think that a projector is better than a tv capable of a 4K to 8K image and great video as always mate and I’m from the north coast of nsw Australia
Nice 👍🏻 I want to move north coast up past Coffs and get away from Sydney
love your subs and speakers, what brand are they?
Thanks! They are the Krix Seismix 3 Mk7 subwoofers and Lyrix Gold towers also from Krix. Links in the description to my setups.

can the UST do 2.35:1?
No it cannot.
Funny how technology makes a circle eg. crt displays to modern curved and rear projection TVs to UST projectors
So true. I personally think the next evolution will be TVs that roll up and that can be 150" - or fixed panels or panels we can add to on a wall. The main issue with panels is audio and speaker placement. Thanks for watching.
Lsp7t for $1400, hu85la for $2500 or vava Chroma?
I think the HU85LA or Chroma for the price.
@@BuildMontage ended up buying the lsp7t for $1200 brand new

Have at screen then no more problems with center channel

What's the Star Wars CGI cartoon, "mate"??
The Clone Wars "mate"

I thought BM stood for Beard Man
It can if you like it to be
Sorry, but your background music is very annoying.
