    Afternoon Chris!
    Looking for advise on the option between VAVA Chroma, Xgimi Aura and Optoma P2 & D2. Although I love the Formovie, 3D is a must for me (Which eliminates the Formovie). Which would you recommend between VAVA Chroma & Xgimi Aura?

    Have been waiting for your review on this projector (even though as you mentioned, it is the pre-production version). I appreciated the honest opinion you shared regarding the original Vava - including the caveats / shortcomings (e.g. distance from screen/wall, etc.) - which in turn helped make my decision easier of returning it even though I got it at the lowest price last holiday season.
    Would appreciate if you could share your opinions on few things regarding this projector:
    1. I am very sensitive to rainbow effect (was able to notice the rainbow effect right away while viewing Revenant (initial fight scene as it transitions from dark to bright scenes) while helping a friend setup his Vava / home theater (using your videos as reference) last year. I understand triple laser DLP projectors MIGHT not be as susceptible to rainbow effect but wondering if you noticed any rainbow effect. I am not sure if you might be sensitive to rainbow effect and understand sensitivity varies from person to person (my buddy was not sensitive at all so ended up keeping the original Vava and enjoys it whereas I get a headache every time I go over to his house for football games or movie night or even just being in the same room while his kids play games on it). Would appreciate any input regarding rainbow effect on the Chroma.
    2. How does the Vava compare (picture quality wise) to the BenQ v7050i which also uses same technology and which you reviewed recently.
    3. I have an older Epson (2010?) 1080p 3D projector and have had not problems with it. Love the image and no rainbow effect. How does the Chroma compare to the LS500 as well as the Epson 5050UB as far as picture quality goes? I understand DLP projectors can produce "richer" colors compared to 3LCD but rainbow effect would drive me nuts as already mentioned. Also, although I would prefer an ultra short throw projector, I already have my basement wired in the ceiling for ceiling mount projector as well so could go either way (e.g. 5050UB or even my old Epson if its worth holding off for couple years for UST projectors to mature).
    4. One other thing I appreciated (and helped me decide to return the original) from your old video was finding out how far the original Vava had to placed from the wall. How far does the Chroma need to be placed from the wall?
    Anyway, would appreciate any input especially if there might be any show stoppers (e.g. rainbow effect, too far - back of unit more than a foot - away from wall, etc.) if it might helps me decide instead of regretting my decision if I decide to get the Chroma. Am I being too optimistic regarding the Chroma with the issues I mentioned that I tend to suffer from with DLP? Thanks much!

    Great info! I’m curious if it has native 24fps support, or if it *requires* interpolation to be turned on to get rid of bad judder? Also, can you measure input lag with stereo 3D games like Trine and Zen Pinball 2 on PS4?

    Excellent videos Chris! Thanks for your always detailed reviews. I'm currently using an Epson 696ui that I repaired from a lightning strike, and even though its an LCD UST 1080p classroom projector, It's pretty decent for a home unit that we use it for. But like most Epsons I encounter l, they have iffy black levels, but on the bright side, the color reproduction is amazing

      You got the projector shown in this video w/ a screen for 2800? I'd LIKE to say that's a deal but if I'm being honest, I believe that should be the normal price. It's msrp is probably high due to the current inflation, chip shortage and production setbacks from the pandemic.

    What's the logic behind Vava sending out for review, a pre-production unit? Given how the company has been around for some time, sending out a post-production unit would be more informative, and any changes can be made through software upgrades. If I am a restaurant reviewer, for example, and the chef sends me a steak to sample, then tells me that they are going to be making changes before they start permanently serving steaks, really doesn't help me in my review, because I can only review what is, and not what's to be.

    I'm confused why they use the term "native" for 4K resolution when it's pixel shifting. Shouldn't it be native 1080p with 4k pixel shifting tech? Less deceiving, I guess?

    • @scotttild
      @scotttild 2 роки тому +1

      Ok here is the deal. People are interchanging them for some reason. "True" 4k mean that they use pixel shifting tech to get to a 4k image so they manufactures say it's a true 4k image. Its not it is phony 4k using tricks to get to that image. NATIVE 4k means that they have a 4k native chip and do not pixel shift. All you really have to know is 99% of the projectors on the market are using pixel shifting including every UST projector. The only models that are really "Native" 4k are the Sony 397 and its successor models and the JVC NX7 and its successor models. They both use native 4k chips and are around $9,500 range. SOME reviewers are trying for some reason to say some of these projectors present a "Native" image when they don't. It may be close but none are native. People are interchanging Native and True and its is miss information IMO on some of these projectors that people are reviewing. Not saying he does it but others do.

    • @rossanop7528
      @rossanop7528 2 роки тому

      @@scotttild yeah. I was thinking the same thing. The term “Native” should only be used when referring to projectors that actually meet the criteria of having the native chip in them. Got no issues with pixel shifting. It produces great images and I also enjoy 1080 being upscale to 4K. It’s the disingenuous nature of these reviewers I don’t like. It’s not necessary, I feel.

    They need to come out with a minimum 3000ANSI lumens already. Hisense has the right idea with brightness. Why don't they release higher ANI lumens?

    • @psionx1
      @psionx1 2 роки тому +1

      2500 would be amazing if this projector could make a 40inch screen. sadly the smallest it can go is 80inches meaning you'd want about 7000lumens to get something nearly HDR1000 spec. if VAVA can hit 120Hz I think TV makers would be in full panic mode.

      There is no need for any comparison. The image quality looks shit as compared to others. The colors are wacky. I can imagine that to be fixed with a software update but atleast with what we saw, I would not buy this unit.

    • @ChrisMajestic
      @ChrisMajestic  2 роки тому +4

      I'm seeing a lot of confirmation bias related to this projector. People want it to be the best because of the current low crowdfunding price. I understand that these projectors are expensive so you want to make sure you're getting a good product but you have to be reasonable. I'm one of the first reviewers to show limitations of the Chroma since everyone is scared to be honest. I want Vava to improve the Chroma for it to compete with the more expensive units with similar hardware. If I say it's amazing and has no issues then Vava has no incentive to improve it and I come off as disingenuous.
      Let me address some of your concerns:
      1. I didn't do a side by side comparison because the other tri-laser projectors are brighter with better color. There are probably a dozen UST projectors out there. You expect me to show how it looks next to all of them? That being said, you can expect more comparisons in my yearly "Best Projector" video which comes out near the end of the year.
      2. The lighting in the room is actually similar to the L9G review but The Chroma is simply not as bright. Im not going to make it look better than it looks in real life. This is simply a limitation of Lumen output.
      3. If you're looking for an in-depth review with a bunch of tools and measurements this isn't something I do on my channel. I like to keep my reviews simple, clear, fair, unbiased, and concise.
      4. It's hard to bash a product that's in preproduction since it's not a finished product. If it hit the retail stores in its current state this review would have been far harsher. This is why I said I would be interested in reviewing the completed product at the end of the video.

Passive requires dual projectors or other more expensive solutions to make it work similar to a cinema that aren't really conducive to UST's or ALR screens.
