This was so useful! I was able to clean up about 100 gigs from viewing the Storage portion and finding developer cache stuff that I don't need anymore! Thanks so much!
Wow, I’m literally working on getting my Masters in computer software and I didn’t know half of this. You guys at Max Tech never cease to amaze me. Keep up the great work!!
Your not the only one. With the M1/M2 Pro and Max chips instead of trying forcing the Mac to use mainly the efficiency cores Apple tuned the chips to just cap the wattage to a point where they are still fast but are just more efficient. The performance drops but not by anywhere near the amount the M1 chip does. I can tell the difference personally when starting to push it, but it’s not massive.
I tried to make this video as short as possible lol. At first it was 16 min and I had to cut it down to 11. If I could have made it 8 min I would have but I’d have to cut out certain things or not be able to explain as well which I already cut down.
Literally THANK YOU I got the m3 Mac air m3 a couple days ago and its running so slow now like so slow that UA-cam videos would stutter every few seconds but that sudo purge and TURNING OFF ICLOUD sync actually helped HUGE amounts I can't thank you enough
I have a new M3 MacBook Air, I didn't find any of this helping me, but it's good I learned some tips and tricks regardless! Definitely something I'll come back to later!
Thanks for these tips. Unfortunately, the password area is greyed out after entering "Sudo" on the terminal. Any ideas why and how can one resolve? Thanks in advance
If on your WiFi router you set 5GHz to max power and 2.4GHz to half power (same name), then your Mac/phone will prefer 5GHz when in range but still seamlessly connect to 2.4GHz when far away or outside when 5GHz doesn't reach. Note that having multiple WiFi names causes AirPlay to disconnect every time it changes which WiFi name it's connected to, especially phones with WiFi Private Address turned on (default)
Thanks for the tip. I personally need my 2.4ghz to be full power because of smart home accessories that are far away which some of them still have a lower than I’d like signal even at full power, and of course most of these only support 2.4ghz.
Hi, I asked in another post, if I have to buy a new Mac asap, coming from the Mac Pro 2019, what do u suggest I buy, given all you’ve announced coming in 2023, I need to buy the coming week… Thanks 🙏🏻
How do you even get to see those settings? I'm using a MacBook Air and can't seem to find where you are seeing all of these options to choose from so I can't even get started. My computer is super slow so any help is greatly appreciated! TIA
How do I enter that login screen on High Sierra? Is there similar video? I can't find it. There is completely different settings menu and I suspect something can be done to run it faster on my old MacBook air with 4 gigs of RAM.
One quibble with this video. You shouldn't have to restart unless absolutely necessary. macOS is built on UNIX. A lot of server farms run on UNIX-based operating systems because of outstanding stability and uptime. Most of the time, if you logout & log back in this will fix an issue. My 2013 MacBook Pro had 334 days uptime with no slowdowns. When its keyboard didn't work on wake one afternoon (a software bug at the time) I had to force a restart. If you're having an issue where you need to restart regularly there's a piece of software installed that's causing the issue.
It’s absolutely third party software and on some occasions bugs from new MacOS updates (for example my airdrop not working and crashing finder, which is fixed with a restart) If you just have the mac apps and use safari the experience is way better but for most people once they load up with third party apps some of them have issues. Another one I have is a motion VFX plugin that we use in most videos will randomly unconnected but only in the exported video while it looks perfectly fine in Final Cut. A restart also fixes this.
Hello. I have an issue with my airpods pro 1st gen. I’m experiencing static and crackling noise. My airpods are out of warranty but i came to know about the apple service program. Unfortunately it only applies to the AirPods manufactured before October 2020 and I purchased mine in October 2021. Is there any way to get my airpods repaired or replaced. Hoping for your kind reply.
System settings/system preferences>general>login items. If it's older mac need to go into system preferences>users and groups>login items tab and click lock bottom left to unlock to make changes, choose item and click the minus icon below it to remove or move slider to left to turn off. You can still use those programs just won't be running 24/7 on startup.
thanks, but I don't have options in "Energy mode" in my macbook air 2023, only "never" "always" "only on battery" "only on adapter...so...what should choose please? thanks
this is late but if u wanna optomise it the best u should plug it into the wall most the time and have it on never that way it doesnt use any compromsie and u will never run out of pattery
Surprised you didn’t mention “Reduce Motion” in Accessibility-Display. I turned that on and it turns off all the animations making my Mac feel much more responsive.
Ok, unironically, I’m sorry, I don’t get it. You mean “reduce motion” makes a noticeable difference in performance on an M1 Mac? The same Mac that handles 8K footage smoothly?
@@thecaptainseye I said that “reduce motion” makes my Mac “feel” faster, not in terms of actual performance but rather faster interactions. It is my opinion. Others may find this to be true as well. I was just giving a tip for those who prefer less animations. Your response shows a lack of understanding in what I wrote. @Seek Each Day however understood my meaning as they clearly pointed out the key word used is “feel.”
@@christianmiller6804 No worries man, I wasn’t trying to be a smartass. It was a genuine question 😅 you have a point there, I will try Reduce Motion too
I can't display the energy modes, do you know the reason? In the first section there is Low Power Mode which is 'never' selected. then it continues with battery health then the figures, not modes. (MacBook Pro M2 14 inch 2023)
Confusing: at 1:23 he says you can "uncheck Animate Opening Animations," yet there is no such feature on his computer screen (nor on my Mac Air running OS 11.7.10).
Apple Silicon doesn’t have Turbo Boost. Doesn’t matter because in the Mac, their processors are way faster than Intel’s anyway. If you have a 16 inch Pro, however, there is a high power mode you can turn on to force it to clock higher (I believe 3.67 GHz vs 3.49 GHz).
You don’t have to restart your Mac because it’s built on Unix. Only way you have to restart is when you have a major issue. And now with Apple silicone you don’t have to worry.
While it is built on Unix, we still have issues mostly with third party software and plugins that mess stuff up. I’ve replied to a few other comments about this with more detail.
I have a 2018 mac book pro and when I tried doing the sudo perge command, I got “command not found” message. Anyone else run into this? How to fix this?
What do you mean "restart mac"? I will soon reach a milestone of a half a year since last boot! Hell, I even manually rebooted the headphones driver when it felt funky Also, logging out of all users with re-open tasks feature disabled should provide same result as reboot since critical processes (usually run by the root user) *shouldn't* be affected by your regular user. I mean, if they do, reboot won't help
That’s why having a Macbook is extremly enoying. You never finish setting it up. I’m seriously thinking in going back to Windows. I’ m having a KATARSIS right now….
Thanks for the advice, but I've been using Apple computers since 1994 and I can say that the Sonoma system is the most screwed-up and most buggy operating system in Apple's history. We don't spend thousands of dollars to sit and waste several hours a day repairing the system or fiddling with settings to make, for example, the external drive visible, the external monitor working, the email application working, etc. The idea of Apple died with Steve Jobs.
Mine takes about 5 mins for settings to open 😂. These UA-cam videos have their Mac on super power fast...its hard to even listen to them let alone follow them

Came across your channel right as the M1 Pro MacBooks were being released, glad I picked one up. One of my favorite tech channels
Also one of mine…but only when they have informational videos like this one. I don’t watch the leaks anymore.

Am I the only one who finds M1 pro Macbooks extremely fast regardless of which settings you qre choosing?
How all computing devices should work, just boot it up, and use it, no settings tweaking at all.
Yeah I watched the cause I was curious but this the best computer I ever had I’m not messing with anything

For me it gets slow after a couple of weeks. Likely due to RAM leaks due to chromium apps 😅
