- I saw a LOOK handlebar failure whilst watching Stage 15 of this years Tour De France. The original footage was blocked due to Copyright, so I removed the video from the coverage. You can see it on a replay at 79.5km to go.
On this channel we show marketing free, real information about the bikes that you ride.

Luesher Teknic!!!!! Good to here from you. Want one of those less than ideal t-shirts pretty bad! 👍
Thanks for posting this Raoul! Great information. By the way, do you have an update on your headquarters? Sorry you're still dealing with that.
And thus I continue to use alloy bar/stem
Look need to look at the logic of carbon bars…
what is the best bike brand form your experience?
Interesting side note - not many know that this rider (122) is loved by the ladies because his Coquard.
Thanks for your insight hughjanus !
Maybe the mechanic needs to *LOOK* better 😂 ”noice” 👍
Was looking for this bar /stem. I can't find it anywhere.... I'm assuming it's not available yet?🤔
It is only available on the new Look 795 blade rs
@aarontwigg1042 ah, ok. Wonder if they will bring it out as standalone, or is it proprietary to the frame? I can't say I'm well up on the Look frames
I've used a 3T ergo team carbon bar for years with no issue but I'm not sure about the combo bars. I have alloy bars in my backup bike and my MTB has alloy too. With modern alloys being very lightweight in the premium end I'd consider alloy again.
Yeah he was in a crash pileup earlier .. I watched it live. It’s amazing how these bars snapped so easily after the crash just from riding forces. I spent a fortune in 2019 on a limited 1 of 100 S-Works Venge Sagan green jersey bike that Specialized was offering that year, and on my very first ride in front of my house when I was done and came to a stop and put my left foot down .. my foot slid out under me wearing a brand new look cleat (the non-rubber lined slippy ones), it was the first time in 40 years of riding cleated shoes I ever went down at a stop 😡 Most of the force was on my left hip and it left a softball + size bruise that lasted and hurt for a month. The bike did suffer a scraped up left pedal, a scraped up left DI2 brake lever and hood and bar tape, and a nice scrape on the left side of the S-Works power seat. Even though there were no marks or scratches on the frame .. I’ve been paranoid to ride it ever since .. and went back to riding my trusty mid 80’s Colnago Master and 85 Specialized Allez steel bikes. My S-Works Venge just sits in the house as a very expensive albeit pretty piece of bike ‘art’ I regret ever buying the damn thing. I’ll never buy another carbon bike .. especially after what I’ve learned from this channel and a couple others .. as well as some other reading.
Why not just sell it on
The bike is fine. Use it.
@@glennoc8585 You interested? .. it’s a size 56, full Dura Ace DI2, and Dura Ace C60 wheel set. 😬
You're blaming the bike being carbon for you tottering over coming to a stop?
But, just get it inspected
Saw it live, rider didn't look impressed, less than ideal especially on a descent. Snapped right at the stem joint.
Ayant été mécanicien, j ai vu l intérieur des tubes carbone, guidon ou cadre ou tige de selle, ça n est pas rassurant.
Preferez les matériaux métalliques

Hi. This is speculation, of course, but if there was interlaminar damage possibly cause by crash loads acting on an existing void or porrosity in the lay-up then it would not be immediately apparent to a visual inspection. A "tap test" might have given a clue, but short of X-ray it will be totally hidden.
Earlier in the season there were incidents of broken handle bars (Bianci I think but....).
UCI rules are that any parts used by competitors must also be available for sale to the general public. I find this situation very concerning because you or I could not be expected to have the skill to cope with this. Maybe the UCI, who are dead keen on sock length, should give more attention to the safety and integritty of the parts used and so the health and safety of riders and you and I. I will not be buying carbon handle bars in a hurry.
Bet we don't get any more info on this safety concern.
Pity your video was blocked (a bit like Fabio Jacobsen's broken frame being hidden!). I saw it too on the GCN and was immediately concerned.
relax, it's just a handle bar, not a submergible vessel, lol.
@@ambientblue-eyedmonkey8849 A handle bar snapping off at speed could potentially be just as lethal as that carbon sub that killed those people last month .. just saying.
@@chrisstrobel3439 No chance for it to be as lethal, unless you take you bike and ride on rollers in a carbon sub, deep under water lol.
The bike / part has to be on the market in 1 year after using in the peloton, so chances are good that the riders are guinea pigs and this failure will be adressed in production models.
15000€ bike!
Carbon will always fail!
Sooner or later, sooner probably!
Use metal and be less worried 😉
That's simply wrong. Get educated and stop commenting bullshit.
"Video blocked due to copyright". Good to proof your videos before you link to other content.
It's considered fair use to show a short clip of some recording that illustrates your point. YT will often block videos even if you add a clear disclaimer about what you did. Proof all you want, the system is broken.
