    Just wanted to say thank-you for the videos p1 / p2 /p3 ....I bought one of the Andy Kirby ebike kits and followed your instructions to the letter ....I now have an amazing ebike ...very grateful.... so much fun and makes commuting a breeze. The instructions were perfect. I built it on a Carerra Helcat 29" frame and everything fitted perfectly. I don't think I would have had the confidence to build it without your videos ...thank you .

    Best thing i ever did , even 80 mile trips are not a problem . I made 4 in the end all on scrap bikes , only one problem on a sharp burr where the wire leaves the wheel..my next project is to fix that . After 4000 miles i would say triple check wire abrasion points and reinforce, Bikes are surprisingly jiggly and sometimes the cabling is not particularly hard wearing. Personally, i use batteries in a rear pannier still wrapped in their original foam packing to protect them from an inevitable fall . Means swapping and charging batteries is simple . I also soldered on XT60 connectors for long life and good connectivity.

      If you fit the controller in a frame bag with the battery you take the frame bag with the controller in it out. less to get stolen. Only a few wires to disconnect like phase and hall and throttle etc.. and good to go

    You've knocked loads of these up recently! My first ebike was a 1500w hub. Great fun. My advice to anyone building is hydraulic brakes are a must, cable just doesn't cut it. As well as two torque arms/ plates either side to be safe. Newton himself said for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Keep it up Steve.

    • @jasonpgallery
      @jasonpgallery 2 роки тому +1

      Is it tough to convert disc to hydraulic?

    • @18ct
      @18ct 2 роки тому +1

      @@jasonpgallery cable actuated brakes to hydraulic. With cable you squeeze the lever and it pulls a cable through a pipe toward, clamping together the pads. With hydraulic, you squeeze the lever and it forces oil through a pipe, clamping that way. They're much more efficient at clamping. No it's not hard. Hardest part is if you need to shorten hoses and bleed the system, many times you can get the right length hose and plug-and-play. If you have more power, it only makes sense to have more stopping power to go with it.

    Do u have a preferred best practice for these batteries mate...
    Do u charge the battery while on the bike or always remove it?
    Do u allow all power from battery to fully dissipate, before you charge to full again? Or keep it topped up as u go?
    Do u always use the 'red power-kill switch' on the battery when u are done for the day or only when u are charging?
    Again, I wish you had a Discord server...

    I was so pleased to see you using flush cut side cutters in the earlier video of this build, then you used scissors in this video. Cutting the cable tie tails off with scissors leaves a nice razor sharp end on the stub of cable tie, perfect to cut yourself to pieces on later. The tails need to be cut as close to the head of the cable tie as possible to avoid those evil razor sharp booby traps. Been there done that and got the scars.
    Great video, I’m about to do a conversion myself, I’ve put this series of vids on save to refer to while do my build.

    For the last six months I’ve had an overheating controller till recently. I couldn’t Accelerate for too long as the wires from the motor would get really hot then go into the junction box then to the controller to the point the 3 wires got melted a little which are now insulated with tape so ive been going easy. Now since ive a new battery base as the old one broke from a crash , I also rearranged the wires in the bag , unplugging phaze Connector and reconnected it. I used a proper crimping tool to put the Anderson pole connectors in the plugs then on my new base wires No soldering needed and now the phaze and controller runs flawless. I also have a new 21 amp hour battery instead of the old 20 ah that flew off the bar last year due to not being locked Dow aha. was well gutted lucky there was no fire. Now with all the upgrades It goes as it should and It hardly ever gets hot and i can run the 2000 watts happily no over heat In phaze and just gets warm so I can throttle for much longer I’m so chuffed . No more over heating worry. I must of done something right. Aha 👍

    I like what you do with painting the controller satin black and the mounting of controller. I can't stand those yellow phase blocks. I always cut off and solder on bullet connectors & heat shrink them. I replace all the large white connectors with black micro jst sm connectors. Just tidier. Not an issue if its hidden inside a bag though. I'd like to see you make some mid drive BBSHD builds. I've never built one myself. A quality hardtail frame like that giant would go great with bafang.

So with the 21 gears 50 mph or 60 and mph hopefully. 36v battery X2 and speed controller. Understand that that will make a heavy bike. Has though about a trailer for the battery back's. Problem you should have took it for a spin witch I thought you would have done. Getting to controller I've got 2000wat the controller is the same for 1500wat that came with kit the battery 52v175 top speed 37 mph I've had it to 40mph but that was wind behind me. Is there an upgrade controller for 2000wat and to work on my 52v175 battery thanks Colin

    To ask you. How much did you pay for that bike in the end of your build👍

    In regards to setting up the display, is this why you left out the pedal assist on your initial installation footage?

    Thanks for all the infos!! One thing, is there another way or place to fit the Battery? Cause my mountain bike dont have the holes to fit a water Bottle rack...

      You could buy a rivbolt tool and drill and fit the holes.

    Great job !
    I'm wondering how difficult is to change the back tire ?
    How much of the secured cables and stuff have to be removed ?
    Cause it seems to me it's gonna be a pain....

      from what I know of hub drives, maintenance can be a nuisance, I run a mid drive though, so never personally dealt with it

    Why do you use thumb operated throttles? Isn't a half twist grip throttle easier on your hand? I currently have a thumb throttle and find my thumb and hand get tired after awhile. I plan to change to a half twist grip throttle.

    How do you get the battery off to charge and take it indoors in the winter so it doesn't get frozen and wreck it, they're pretty expensive, i've done it.

    Alright, pal. How much would you sell a bike that would be okay for me? I'm 6f 5in and 20 stone. I'm not too bothered about going really fast but I'd like plenty of torque for pulling me up steep hills. Please let me know, pal. Thank you.
