I have an ebike and wondered how difficult it actually was to build I think you did a great job on this video. Your format, sound, editing, lighting were spot on. Your accent is brutal but, I get it . This was in depth and very educational, no bullshit stupid music, and you get right to the point. Good job.
New subscriber... Your videos are extremely helpful to me. I'm retired and enjoy building new things. While searching for a part for a project I'm working on I run across an old Ebike that had broken frame. I pulled off the back rim and all the electronics. With the help of your videos I can't wait to start this project. Thank You!
This is a great build video series, I've always wanted to build a bike for myself and the fun in building it myself but never known how to. I thank you so much for your time doing this. Part 3 kettle on and waiting. Cheers bud 👏
Easy way to remove the grips is slide a small allen wrench between the grip and the bar. Pour some rubbing alcohol in the space and it should slide right off. No cleaning needed it just evaporates away. Works great for putting them back on.
It's funny that you mentioned to keep the thumb throttle a bit apart from the grip because I rode my ebike for nearly a year and half with it installed too tight. I assumed my throttle was sticking the whole time!! I finally ordered a new throttle and then figured out that was what it was the whole time!! Very dumb on my part! These in-depth install videos are great Steve thanks!! Aaron
Great video! A tip for getting grips back on is just pour a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into the grip before you slide the grip on. The grip will slide on easily and then the isopropyl will evaporate and the grip will stay put.
Bike Shop tip- Use an air blower/nozzle on a compressor to send a high volume of air under the grip to remove it. That way you don't have to clean and remove lubricants.
That thumb throttle wire needs to have its wire sit up top ontop of the brake booster so when the throttle is pressed it leaves your thumb where it would be if you make a fist then you won't have issues with your gear levers
tip - instead of using wd40 to remove grips, use hairspray, does the same job as wd40 to remove them, and then once theygo back on, they actually stick due to the tackyness so they dont come sliding off as wd is a lube
Great tip! I worked in a bike shop for 10 years and that is exactly what we used. After the alcohol in the spray dries up it sticks probably better than factory... Air compressor to force air in will get them off.
Bang a 12v tyre inflator with a football inflating nozzle in the bar grip and inflate. Been doing it that way since being shown. Does the trick lovely.
I understand you have a preference, however I am sure you should push the thumb throttle and not pull with your thumb? Which would also eliminate the issue you have with how the cable exits the bracket? Otherwise .. brilliant video 😂👍
If you can push the throttle, you can push it by accident. Like during an accident. Which you definitely don't want. Pulling by accident is much less likely and therefore safer.
I'm using a 9 speed gripshift because I feel that the throttle feels more natural on the right than on the left then it isn't crowded on the right handlebar.
When I converted a Giant Talon, I found that removing the spacer behind the disc rotor will leave you with the brake calipers too close (almost touching) to the hub motor. I found that everything fitted better using the spacer.
oh ok. now iget it. after watching the 1st part and the second part. this is a video version of the user manual. the longer version of a user manual. epic.
In part 3 could you detail how you mount the controller? I have a box for mine but it won’t fit in the frame with the battery. Was gonna follow your suggestion of making a bracket for it out of the bottom section of the box… awesome videos by the way!
Lay the bar end into a jug of hot water on the floor for couple mins expands the rubber pulling it off with ease without having to clean/waste the dw40
never seen anyone mount the thumb throttle like that ;p its usualy at the bottom in a push config. the gear levers in the way maybe? yours seem kinda nice tho but different im not used to it i gues great build and vid brother ty!!
Hair spray instead of WD40. It wets and lubricates to help loosen the grip to get it off and then it wets to lube the grip going on but dries so it won't cause slippage after.
My lad absolutely gutted we bought one fitted everything as should powered up all display comes on but nothing happens when pressing acceleration. Wheel speed all shows on display we tried everything 🤷♂️ any advice must appreciate 🙏
Large spanner on the inside of those grips gets them off pretty easy. You got to push them off from the inside facing end somehow then they come off pretty easy. Can even use your fingers.
You could just use a twist throttle it plugs in the same as that thumb trigger I was wondering 💭 why would you not use one I fitted one to my sons razor scooter just buy the right one for the controller and your be good. Nice video though.
If the grips are sucked on air compressor airhose in one end plug the opposing grip hit the air creates an air cushion n pops right off reverse the steps to install try it good luck, aloha
I got me nuts in me left and! ✊🤣🤣🤣🤣 sod that piss balling about I’d rather pay you Steve to build one for me! 😂😂👍💪 Great presentation mate and patience 🤦🏻♂️ I woulda thrown it across the road way before completing it!🤣🤣🤦🏻♂️
just remember to pay utmost attention, to not lose your littpe nuts, and we'll be set, haha, but amazing tutorial, alwwys wondered how some of these bycycles go so god damnn fast, especially ones wuth the drum on the back wheel
Hi Guys, im about to buy a new bike upto £1000 on my cycle to work scheme and will be considering doing this once ive brought the equipment you have used do you have a any recommends on the bike that suits this ect
The stright handel bars and brake levers suck. In the 1970s you had 2 position bars for speed with a top and lower hand placement with a pull up type brake level that was long and bent, it was a lot more comfortable also you had a head down and head up ride to fight wind resistance.
"I am gonna nick this up real quick" haha. for which part of UK is that common lingo? Greets from Austria. Looking to upgrade my wife's bike. Are there different thicknesses of wheels to consider? I guess MTB will have a wider wheel than a regular ladies bike. It looks really easy when you do it. Still daunting for someone with two left hands though.
Insted of wd40, you can use dishsoap that way it washes off and the grip can't slide off. Thin it with some hydrgron hydroxide . You can find hydrgon hydroxide almost any place its rather cheep. Sometimes you can hop on down to the drug store and get it in the bottel.
Have you tried HAIR SPRAY with a straw? Im bald too, but I keep a small travel size hair spray in my toolbox... no need to clean up... spray more on to reinstall, and in 15 minutes, even non lock grips feel firm as an 80's perm hair-do!
I have the Giant Talon as well albeit a medium size frame. Few questions: Looking at the website is that the upgraded wheel the MTX39 or the standard rim? How come you don't hook up the pedal assist function? What have thought this would have benefits to using it.
I have seen anyone ask this question and was curious. Is there a way to build these eBike so that rear pegs can be added to them, in case you wanted to carry a second person?
Only problem with having the throttle going downwards is that if you hit a bump as you press the throttle you can nap it off like I did the other day 😢
Has to have pedal assist to be legal unless you don't care about being legal. It can have throttle and pas but it can't have throttle only. That is considered an electric motorcycle and has to be registered and you have to have a motorcycle license, J.S.
Little trick to remove the grips: use an air compressor, and shoot the air stream right between the metal and the rubber. The difference it made for me is incredible.
For the sake of my arse I think it's gonna have to be full suspension trouble is finding one a battery will fit in the middle, could of course get downhill bike and mount it under down-tube

Great job well explained not seen an install in so much detail before brilliant looking forward to Part 3.
You know how to demonstrate and explain very clearly. You would make a great professor.
Easy way to remove the grips is slide a small allen wrench between the grip and the bar. Pour some rubbing alcohol in the space and it should slide right off. No cleaning needed it just evaporates away. Works great for putting them back on.
A little compressed air between the bar and the grip and it will slide right off no bother
Hair Spray Works As well! It works as a lube when wet, and then keeps the grips from spinning after reinstall with fresh hair spray to install...
Grip removal: if you have a compressor use compressed air, blow under grip. Useful for installation of certain grips too.

Great video again mate! 11:38 “here’s the instructions, who needs them when you’ve got me?” Spot on haha.
Nice one Steve 👍 I do like your step by step videos nice bit of humour dropped in as well 🤣
Great video! A tip for getting grips back on is just pour a small amount of isopropyl alcohol into the grip before you slide the grip on. The grip will slide on easily and then the isopropyl will evaporate and the grip will stay put.
I’ve used a heat gun in the past
fantastic, best tutorial, it's given me much more confidence I can do this myself, thanks!
Glad to hear it!
Many thank for ALL the IMPORTANT DETAILS!
You’re dad UA-cam needs, respect
Can't wait for the next part!
Nice Video - Very complete. Appreciate it. I have a small collection of MTBikes in the garage and may just have to give this a go. Cheers.
Great video, I'm just a out to start my build tonight, on the grips I use some hairspray 😂 itsorks a treat.
If you are working one handed, use a zip tie to hold the break lever squeezed.
tip - instead of using wd40 to remove grips, use hairspray, does the same job as wd40 to remove them, and then once theygo back on, they actually stick due to the tackyness so they dont come sliding off as wd is a lube

Bang a 12v tyre inflator with a football inflating nozzle in the bar grip and inflate. Been doing it that way since being shown. Does the trick lovely.
Dude you’re awesome!! Greetings from Germany
Well presented and nicely demonstrated! Thanks mate!
I understand you have a preference, however I am sure you should push the thumb throttle and not pull with your thumb? Which would also eliminate the issue you have with how the cable exits the bracket?
Otherwise .. brilliant video 😂👍
i was thinking the same thing the whole time.
I totally agree! I like my thumb under the bar forming a good grip in full throttle.
Holy frak, at the start I thought Vin Diesel was in Britain filming on his bike but...
... na, its Domonic Littlewood.
Boom 😂
A trick in motorbike circles to get grips off is blow air from a air compressor down into the grips and you remove them.
WD40 with a straw, being doing that for 30 years. You're doing it right :)
Great vid 😎👌 looking forward to part 3 😁👍
When I converted a Giant Talon, I found that removing the spacer behind the disc rotor will leave you with the brake calipers too close (almost touching) to the hub motor. I found that everything fitted better using the spacer.
@Martin The brake calipers could not possibly be moved enough. Of course I did try.
Really enjoyed this video
Mine came with a twist grip love it, just like a motor bike.
oh ok. now iget it. after watching the 1st part and the second part. this is a video version of the user manual. the longer version of a user manual. epic.
😊 Wheres the video on how you use cruise control mate? I wanna give it a go.
Seagull had you looking back like what was that😂😂😂😂😂
Noticed you didn’t use the pedal assist, if you were to put on thumb throttle and pedal assist would they work together?
Just brought my andy ekirby 1500-2000w kit .putting it on my boardman comp 650b hardtail..
9 times out of 10 the viewer doesn't make it to part 2.
Thanks for theses very informative videos, Dude. Much Appreciated!
Like your style. Top video! Thanks
I used hairspray to install my grips. It slides on easy but you have to cut them off.
In part 3 could you detail how you mount the controller? I have a box for mine but it won’t fit in the frame with the battery. Was gonna follow your suggestion of making a bracket for it out of the bottom section of the box… awesome videos by the way!
Hair spray best way to get grips off mate. Also best way to put them back on. It glues them on when it dries.
Nice tutorial Steve 👍👍 cheers mate
Good video Steve
Hi , do you work from home ? I want to add a battery to my bike , if not any suggestions , many thanks , RJ !
Very good videos appreciate the help
great video
one comment next time use compresed air on the handles or a drop of alcohol
evaporates with no oil residue
Lay the bar end into a jug of hot water on the floor for couple mins expands the rubber pulling it off with ease without having to clean/waste the dw40

Hair spray instead of WD40. It wets and lubricates to help loosen the grip to get it off and then it wets to lube the grip going on but dries so it won't cause slippage after.
For the grips: rubbing alcohol if you have it. Does not leave residue Compressed air works too.
cheap hairspray works well, too. slick when wet and acts like glue when it dries. dries quickly, too.
@@NCtrailX It works because of the pressurized air. Not sure if I would risk it though :) Technically air freshener could work too :)
@@mckidney1 its like glue - can be pump spray - doesn't have to be pressurized. Have used it on mountain bikes for many years.
My lad absolutely gutted we bought one fitted everything as should powered up all display comes on but nothing happens when pressing acceleration. Wheel speed all shows on display we tried everything 🤷♂️ any advice must appreciate 🙏

If wD40 works then who cares what others say😁. One tip though, hand sanitiser squirted down grips makes them slide off and on easy.
Omg u are amazing at this
Can u sell any Wen I make them

Pop it in between the gear shift and the break... gives more room and stops the throttle from getting it the way of gears...
Perfect video👍

Hi have you any bikes up for sale @ the moment I'm looking for a bike an I admire your work.

Sounds like you might want to loosen up that back break before putting the tire in place.

Would like to put a throttle on the Stromer ST7. It has a Syno Drive Swiss-made motor. Any idea?
The stright handel bars and brake levers suck. In the 1970s you had 2 position bars for speed with a top and lower hand placement with a pull up type brake level that was long and bent, it was a lot more comfortable also you had a head down and head up ride to fight wind resistance.

Would you say there is good money in reselling these bikes ?
Take off non-lockon grips: WD40 goes into the rubber. Air out of the compressor or just water are better.
Anyone fitted one of these kits to a full suspension?
Was thinking about putting the battery on the opposite side to where Steve puts his.
Look on my playlists for my channel did a bright green full suspension as one of my first builds
Once you see a video like that can’t go wrong very helpful well done 👍

thatll be expensive shipping costs ,then again the pound is so weak against the dollar it may depend
