Yes I would, if it’s affordable. I do currently own an eBike, but I rarely ride it because it spoils me. It’s incredibly fun, but it stinks when I go back to my regular bikes and don’t have the electric boost to fall back on. Perhaps I’ll use my eBike for when I’m injured or am dead tired from a day of cycling and I just want to cruise to the nearest market by bicycle.

I added one of these to my wife's 26" Electra Cruiser yesterday. Installing took a little longer than I would have thought, but I was being as meticulous as possible. My initial impression after installation and testing is that I really like this system. A while back, we moved from a flat area into a neighborhood with some substantial hills, which made my wife's bike not very usable. With this kit, the hills were no problem so she will be "cruising" again. I really like the adjustable power so that my wife can dial up as much exercise as she wants.

Hi, I've been interested before, but I have questions.
1., can it be turned off when not needed during a ride or the only thing to do is just to lower the level to 2 as you explained?
2., Can it be fitted on a cargo bike?
3., What happens when removing the battery when you go in somewhere and you don't want it to be stolen? Let's say it's raining, you pull out the plug, put the battery away. How does the plug bit stay waterproof that's fitted to the bike if the bike stays out in the rain? What I mean is next time I plug this is together, would the battery suffer damages because of the water inside the cable? Is that a possibility even? I can't leave the cargo bike under cover loads of times, so I need to know what to expect.
4., Does the Velcro stays strong forever or need to be replaced at times? I had Velcro fitted before on other things that didn't stand the earyher conditions and stopped working. So if it comes to that, is it easy to replace?
    Thank you.

    • @bikeradar

Hi, I asked Swytch and they came back to me with the following:
      1. Yes - there are 6 power levels 0,1,2,3,4,5 - when on 0 it will ride like a regular bike not using any power
      2. It depends on the cargo bike but usually yes, if you send photos/info to our support team support@swytchbike.com, we can confirm
      3. You can buy our locking upgrade that lets you lock the battery in place if you want to lock it in place. It's fully IPx6 waterproof so water is not an issue
      4. The velcro is custom, very high grade and was developed for this specific application over the course of a full year so shouldn't ever require replacement
      Hope that helps! Liam

Yes. If it's like the older model, you can just tell the controller it has a smaller wheel than it actually has, and the max speed it allows goes up in inverse proportion. But a) it will be illegal on public roads in Europe, and b) it will probably put strain on the motor and/or the battery. Ditto if you get the throttle "for off road use" and use it on the road. Probably invalidate the warranty but that's not worth much anyway.

That's the problem I have with these ebike companies. Once the battery needs to be replaced which could be 3 years from now, do you have to ditch the whole bike?

@@MrChristiangraham I think it depends on how the batteries were installed. Usually they solder them onto a metal bracket in which case make it impractical to replace the cells. But, if they designed it like a battery operated electronic device, then I can see replacing the cells would be fairly straightforward. The smart thing would be to make the controller separate from the battery and have it connected by an xt60 so you can basically use any aftermarket battery.

Amazing. But can you get this conversion kit and second hand bike for less than second hand e-bike?

WTF £599.... So it's literally £300 more if you want it now as opposed to the £299 for delivery later in the year. This company is doing a Ratner.

This company lies as you cannot turn any bike into e bike and you will not get your money back if there is a problem. Over priced as well

So, you can't coast and have electric power. Constant pedaling is requred. While this is a UK law not so in the USA. Can you get the kit which would allow electric power without pedling?

Do not purchase from this company. It will not work for every bike and you will not get your money back if there is a problem. It’s overpriced as well
