I wish this was around in the 80s, smiths songs were the hardest to figure out how to play bc Marr used so many capos and open tunings so I was stuck learning on pink Floyd and zeppelin songs
She is absolutely stunning
Yours are some of the best Johnny Marr tutorials on the 'net. Thank you! Great work.
You explained it laymens terms! Thank you! Your instructionals make us all guitar stars! Huge Smiths fan from the early 80's here!

Alison you are amazing. The Light That Never Goes Out. Thank you! I would never get anywhere on my guitar without your lessons. This from a guy who used to hang around the garage door at Rough Trade in Kings Cross in the mid-80's as a schoolboy, scrounging album promo posters from the warehouse guys. You're keeping all of our dream alive : )
Exceptional video - wonderful how this is broken down so clearly thanks

sweet you are back thanks for the lessons
Very nice explanation about the strumming and chord change. Helped me to correct my 30 years-old mistakes in this song!!! Thanks for posting. Bye from Brazil!
Amazing lesson thank you so much!
Allison, I have been a punk/metal player for the past 8 years and wanted to change. Your lessons are helping me so much change my entire sound and approach to guitar. Going from a riff intensive style to a more melodic and rhythmic approach is exactly what I get from all your lessons. It's a shame I don't play in a Smiths cover band now, as I am learning all your Smiths songs :-) Thank you. You are also beautiful!
Great video and I love how you have a photo of Morrissey and Marr on your wall amongst photos of (presumably) your relatives.
You are brilliant...Teach the world..
I saw This Charming Band a few weeks ago when you played at the Ritz in San Jose. I had seen them previously but I knew you'd be back on the stage so I had to go. Thanks for the lessons - we appreciate the generosity!
wow what a fabulous lesson, easily the best lesson for this song on youtube! It shows that you play in a The Smiths cover band! Thanks, I love these chord progressions and rhythms, sublime ear candy! 😀👍
Congratulations, so well done😊😊😊😊

Excellent tutorals.
Soo nice y great video.
Very good Miss, thank you for this, years ago I never attempted smiths stuff as I couldn’t figure out how he got the tones, no you tube in my day, now with great lessons like this it’s a lot easier, one thing I’m noticing now I can play Johnny marr songs are the following -capos, jazz chords, syncopation (playing on up strokes) and playing on chord tones which are lifted by the capo, great stuff and opening my ears even more after 45 years of playing
Got to agree with you there, years ago I never attempted smiths stuff as I couldn’t figure out how he got the tones, no you tube in my day either, now with great lessons like this it’s a lot easier, one thing I’m noticing now I can play Johnny marr songs is the following -capos, jazz chords, syncopation (playing on up strokes) and playing on chord tones which are lifted by the capo, great stuff and opening my ears even more after 45 years of playing

Glad you're back! Heaven knows I'm miserable now??? 😊
Your back!
Fantastic lesson Allison....well all your lessons have been awesome!
I will confess that I was not a big fan of the Smiths when they came out (long before you were born! lol), primarily because of Morrisey's singing style didn't resonate with me, but also because of the terribly muddy sound of the original album mixes. It was difficult to hear all the parts & really dig into the music. so it was more about Morrisey than anything else.
Nevertheless, over the years, I have grown to be a huge fan of Johnny Marr, closely followed his post-Smiths work, & I have recently picked up the guitar for the first time in a looong time, with the intention to play Smiths material & other stuff. To that end, your lessons re: Smiths tunes have been most valuable, as they easy to follow, properly paced, & they help me appreciate Marr's arrangments & playing even more.! And when you have had to combine parts because you're the only guitarist in the band, you have maintained the essence of the individual parts while coming up with something that mere mortals can play , which is not an easy thing to do! Ok...I had better get back to my Ric, JM Jag, Fender Blackface, and start making use of your great lessons. Thanks again Allison! :)
nice, ensina muito bem obrigado pela aula
Thanks for posting about your equipment. I was gonna ask if that was a vintage Tele but saw you posted it is a Nash.

ONNN THE DAY THAT YOUR MENTALITYYYY
Thank you, Allison!!!!! Could you add an addendum to this with the second guitar part that is overdubbed in the second part of the song? Also, all the guitar parts to Ask, as well as your personal hybrid version. You're the best!
Nice tutorial!
