loved being in this video. And i'm still bragging about it many many years later!!!!
Darlene Tomlinson time stamp?
my closeup is about 3:04. not sure how to time stamp. LOL :) :):)
Very cool! I always wondered who that was :-)
😊👍
damn hot then.....what do you look like now?
The Stray cats are one of the most under rated bands in Rock history, just plain ass kicking
Totally agree
I agree, i'm not even big into rock, more of a metal guy, but the Cats are just fucking awesome.
I saw the Stray Cats back in the "80's, Brian Setzer was indisputably the single, most talented musician I saw ( and I saw them all!).
Agree❤
Dusty Doll I agree!
The Stray Cats brought the 50s to the 80s, nobody could top them!
Van Halen totally ripped off this video for Hot for Teacher.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 wow, good point. I never thought of that.
@@magneto7930 It just occurred to me right now.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 I think the girls in the video look too modern. They should have made them up 50s style to go along with their rockabilly sound.
Maybe the same people created both videos, "Hot for teacher" and this video.
The Stray Cats are the ones who got me into rockabilly music. They are excellent musicians.
These cats (Setzer in general) made some of the best rockabilly - as good as anything from the 50's.
yes youre absolutly right
+BoingTarash1960s Lee Rocker provided the bass groove, you cannot deny that his lines moved these cats!
Yes, a good Neo-Rockabilly
I’d say better!!
Love the 50s but Seltzer took it to another level.
I am in the video and it was a blast to do ! It was shot in New Orleans, I was in college and I stayed up all night with a friends mother who taught me how to dance rock-a-billy to get thru the huge audition crowd. Sat next to Brian in classroom scenes and kept cracking him up writing obscene jokes on the school desk. I also spinned a globe and swallowed a gold fish but that got cut...ugh. Great time though!
Shit, sick! How was Brian in person? Hell, I'd kill to meet the cats in person, unfortunately I'm 14 so I'd never be able to lmao. Maybe if they ever do some shit and need a young dude who can score a greaser look.
Did you dig the local rockabilly acts at the time? The Blue Vipers and The Rockabyes. Both bands morphed into Johnny J. and the Hitmen.
I wonder why it was shot there.
Forty years ago Stray Cats released this classic. So many kids shared these sentiments during that era!
I'm 48 and I approve this message😅
At the time, these guys were retro. I look at it now and realize they were ahead of their time.
Jason Ehlers how that?
these cats brought back fun and swing, retro? not a bit they revived harmless dance in a time that was all about ballad rock
***** As you said they brought it back - that's kind of the definition of retro. ;)
17 thumbs up !
"Ballad Rock" ? Not sure where you were, but 1983 wasn't the "ballad Rock" point , '83 was more Classic Metal & 80's Pop . The Stray Cats were "Rock" ...which is why they were popular ... fucking Rap was still relatively minor in terms of record sales. Bands were a bit more refined & professionally groomed athe time , which is why the early 80's was somewhat diverse . "Ballad Rock" kicked into gear by '87 .... but by '92 it was all over , thanks to Cobain's & Vedder's pathetic display of an overgrown 2 yr old .
The Stray Cats revived rockabilly in the 80s with lots of raw punkish energy. Lee Rocker tore up the doghouse bass, Brian Setzer was a one-man music machine on vocals and a classic hollow body Gretsch, while Slim Jim Phantom hammered a stripped-down drum kit-while standing up, no less. They blew away the NYC hipsters at CBGBs, moved to London to launch their recording career, and along with other bands like the Ramones and the Violent Femmes re-energized rock as a music form.
Reverend Horton Heat is another guitar genius and rockabilly player.
So incredibly young and already mega-talented!!! My first concert ever in 1984 and I was 14. Will never forget!
You had good taste.
Feels weird listening to this past 19 years old.
I don't know if they still perform it but I imagine it's quite weird singing it at the age of 64!
Age of consent is still 16 in many places.
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017
Louisiana Strong!
Gosh, I so miss the 80's rock! I am still rockin & dancing to this song now at 49! Best music ever! 💕
get itttttt!
+Marsha HT Me too, Marsha! I'm not sexy, and I'm 45, but I still know how to groove to the Stray Cats!!!
80's rock my ass
This is the Rock 'n' Roll revival of the early 80's
since ure listening to this so long, u should have known better...
At 63 years of age I'm dancing right along side ya Marsha HT
Marsha HT 80's rock with a 50's sound. don't make it like this anymore
Now THIS is how early rock and roll should be re-introduced to current (or for the 1980's, then-current) mainstream audiences.
They presented rockabilly as an energetic, youthful, form of vintage music.
And they were able to make it in the mainstream. (I love the rockabilly scene, but it is an insular scene, with talented artists who the mainstream are often unaware of.)
The didn't present their music as "oldies," the way certain bands from a decade earlier during the "Fifties Nostalgia Fad" did.
And of course, they did original songs.
Love the Stray Cats.
I will be forever grateful to my ex-wife, whom I met after getting discharged from the U.S. Air Force after a tour in Vietnam and coming home with a heroin habit that she helped me kick. She was in fact seventeen when we met and a living doll. I married her and we have a beautiful daughter together. This song reminds me of that time. I know this song was released in the early eighties, but it just seems relevent to me.
I know things were different back then but jeez, what were you 20 something wifeing up at 17 ur old???
please God let the rock 'n roll time come again.......
+Malcolm Tucker same
+Bart Schlief it never went away mate. tonnes of it here in London
+Bart Schlief it happens at my house when I plug in my Les Paul
One can only hope
you said man! Today,s modern pop songs are CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!
The 1980'S was the Last DECADE for any Act that had a Retro Classic VIBE about them, without Sounding Dated or Trendy....The Music was TIMELESS!!!!!
You'll never top the Stray Cats.
Agree
Nobody can top the Stray Cats, Chad - not even by a long shot!
I always wondered how Brian crafted his unique style ... I believe it was a combination of being reincarnated from the 50's plus a dash of pure god given amazing talent!
James Burton🎸, et al
A couple of years ago, my teenage nephew's girlfriend turned 17. I sent this video to him and told him to play it for his girlfriend when they were alone. Neither of them had ever heard it. From that day on, I am his "Cool, rock and roll" Aunt!
Daphne Dedrick today’s my 17th birthday n my auntie just sent this to me this morning as well! haha
When I send this to my teenage nephew’s girlfriend I’m sure I’ll be the “Cool, rock ‘n’ roll” uncle. Right?
@@championdesigns You & I BOTH know you'd be ARRESTED!!! Point well made, though!
@@championdesigns 😂
@@championdesigns LOL.
Still one of the coolest bands ever!
I love that Amelia Kincade’s dancing in this video led to her getting the part of Angela in ‘Night of The Demons’. She’s truly a great dancer and gifted actress. As for the Stray Cats, they sound just as good today as they always did. I was actually 17 the first time I heard this song, so it always brings back great memories of that time in my life, my friends and all the fun times we had. Thanks so much for sharing this great video and to the Stray Cats for all the music that still gets me dancing when I hear it!
🌹
Love the solos in this tune! Such a vibe 😎
👍😊
Brian Setzer is really a legendary guitarist
"I ain't goin' to school nooooo more!" "Meee needer!" cracks me up every time.
You can't make me go,
No way Daddy O
One of the most underrated bands out there
They weren't at the time.
...but then I guess a person would have to have been alive then to know that.
They we’re pretty well respected and appreciated unbelievable to watch live.
The woman dancing in this video is Amelia Kinkade who was in the horror film Night of the Demons. She played Angela.
Loved it then. Love it now. Kids these days should appreciate that not only is their music appealing to them, there's good music from every generation stretching back to time immemorial. It's sad how good songs get forgotten - at least with the advent of modern technology there's less concern about that thanks to MTV and the Internet!
You are absolutely right.
I don't know how this popped up on my notifications but I'm glad.
one of the best intros...that riff and just the sloshy hi hat...man, so amazing...
I was born 10 years (1990) too late to really listen to all this music. Thank god I had a mom who couldn't let go of the 80's and blasted this kind of music through the house 24/7. The garbage on the radio now will never be as good as this
God bless ur mom!!!
Not only did the girl in the vid go on to play 'Angela' in Night of the Demons, she is a well known animal psychic who tours the world lecturing, holding workshops, and has written books on the subject.
She's a "12" in this video!
Always loved the Stray Cats! Perfect combination of Buddy Holly and Jerry Lee Lewis! Wish they still made this kind of music!
Love these guys since the 80s❤
had some fun nights dancing to the Stray Cats in the 80's. Still love to listen to them
I study film production and it is amazing whoever did the video for this song from the 1950s. Way ahead of its time. It could easily pass for being a video done in the early 1970s.
Such great music 50s style.. rockabilly!!! Love My Cats
👍✨🌟💫🔥
Such a fun song! Bring this music back!
Interesting enough, if you listen carefully, you might discover that the Stray Cat Strut originally came out decades before the Stray Cats changed the lyrics. It was originally a children’s tune called “The Cat Came Back”.
Summer of 82 was the best for music in Southern California.
Setzers guitar is from the soul,AWESOME!
The 80s were a time in my life where it's was any way you wanted it , musically that is....you had rock , southern rock, punk , heavy metal and rap RB....and Brian Seltzer doing his own thing , and it was just right ..... amazing
They introduced us kids of the 80 to a new form of music. Among our group it went great.
The BEST 1950s band ever! 🎸

hermosos recuerdos. Gracias stray cats, por darnos lo mejor del rock.
I liked them in the 80's didn't listen to them much but I love them now, kinda grew on me😊
Music videos from over twenty years ago are sure better than the ones to-day.
The video quality is so good on this video, I didn't think it was original until I saw the band and thought it was fan made.
This Song Went To Number 5 On The Billboard Hot-100 Chart In 1983.
They were a great band!
I can appreciate Brian doing great guitar licks. He was great! Still doing it!
Ain't nothin' like a little juvenile delinquent punk rockabilly by The Stray Cats! Cheers, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)
Wow stray cats never better
I met Brian at a local bar not long after this came out. He was really cool and hung out. I bought him a shot and we clinked to the success of Sexy & 17. He was a gent. Said hi to everyone and he did not drive home. He had a guy. He was smart.
That's so cool
Scientists now agree that too-early school start times lead to poor grades, higher drop-out rates, and other social ills (including underage promiscuity). #StrayCatsWereRight
Your comment should be in a bubble on Pop Up Videos.
Joel Emmett well that explains why I dropped out when they start at 7:00 am and I live 40 min away
Teenagers actually need a lot of sleep because they are growing and learning sometimes it is a long commute to school too and teens are not going to go to bed at 9 pm like an 8 year old.
The school where I teach, Har-Ber High in Arkansas, has the latest start time in the state (8:45) for this very reason. Some students can choose to take a zero-hour (8:00) class or athletic practice earlier. And our school consistently wins nearly every competition they enter in every area. May be on to something…
A vid full of happy nostalgia
Keep on rocking.
I love the gift that these men have with instruments 🎸. Gifted and talented. Damn amazing. I would love to keep them in my heart bc this band was a great so many decades ago. I know they are much older. Just gave me hope. The world was better for me then. ❤.
I want this played at my 17th birthday
Did it get played on your 17th birthday?
So?
One of the best bands ever.
The Stray Cats and In Living Color! Also Midnight Oil!
the soundtrack our lives... rock n roll yeah
ROCKABILLY AWESOME
Awesome Video!!!!!!; Rock n Roll!!!! Yeah!!! I'm 69 still Rock n Roll!!!!!!
Just knowing you now, and I love you guys. I'm writing this after I've checked out your recent live performances. You are great.
If it weren't for the Cats, for me there would have been no Gene Vincent, no Eddie Cochran, no Johnny Burnett, and no Sun Sessions Elvis. I'm forever grateful to them for being the gateway to some amazing music for this 80s teenager! I still listen to all that stuff -- and the Stray Cats too of course!
Hot Fucking damn!!
I am single again at 52 years old!!
yeeee haaa!!! and remembering getting down when I was turning 18 years old!!!
i am listening now and it is totally fitting!!!
Love you!!!
I found you again!!!Thank you so much for all the crazy memories!!!
If you don't dig Stray Cats your a square. Stray Cats 2024 🎉 Best live 3 piece band every. Straight up Rock. 🙏✌️🤘☠️🇦🇺
brilliant
The main girl went on to play Angela in the Night of the Demons trilogy because of this video
Was she also the first girl seen in the video for "Stray Car Strut"?
I grew up with the stray cats and their music but I didn't realize just how talented they really are! Brian Setzer deserves recognition for being a hybrid of Elvis and Jimmy Hendricks! Love reminiscing about the good ole days!
Can't wait to go see Brian in ATL in a couple of weeks. OMG. Love him. He inspired the character of Dagger in my novel series! woohoo! He is the last of my muses I need to see live

Tantos años han pasado y esta música se mantiene 🎸, qué increíble mayo 29 del 2020 y parece que ese riff de guitarra fuera como hoy, grandes the stray cats 🐱!!!
Stray cats still rock
Facts 💯💯
I had this song sung to me when I was a junior in high school by the school's basketball team. I must say it was by far the most fantastic birthday gift I could have ever gotten. I'll say one thing after all these years; this song is as great now as it was back then.
That’s awesome!
Aw that’s cute.
I've been listening SC for 30 years now. Hello from Russia
Late to the game, huh?
This song is a youth anthem!
My favorite band .I Thank them ....
Same here.
I'm only 12 but I hate the music we have today in 2015. I'm a huge fan of brian server and his orchestra also rockabilly. I also love led zeppelin, the Beatles, Van halen, ACDC, kiss, queen, the stray cats, Stevie Ray Vaughn, mostly just 60s to 80s music.
+Timmy Sheehan good for you there is basically an endless amount of music from those times i think you may like ian dury trevor clever maybe
Timmy Sheehan not to be a grammar nazi but it's Brian Setzer
Timmy Sheehan The music is even worse in 2016 and 2017.

i remember loving this song and I was 17 at the time...God, I am old !! hahaha BUT, I liked feeling like I was no longer "sweet sixteen" but not yet EIGHTEEN which is when you are considered an ADULT in some cases...oh, but I could not legally drink alcohol yet at 18. Unbelievable !! : )
Released 40 years ago this month (July 1983)!
Man, I'm thinking this song woulda kicked ass in the dance finale with Favreau and Graham in Swingers! You know I'm right 😎
I love this music, hugs from México!
out of time, out of place and..best rockabilly ever! great job, Mr. brian setzer & Co.
The Stray Cats use to stay on the covers of all the Rock & Roll magazines.
But that was decades ago, very underrated band.

I'm 12, 2018, and?? God, I wish I was born in the 90's, this song is bomb- If only I found it sooner.
