    Great video! He's an incredible singer and great student. That final A♮4 was PERFECTLY placed. It sounds like he could've kept climbing the scale with that coordination. Well done! I'm also jealous. I want to do a video!! haha

    Really enjoyed this video. Some nice variations of vocal exercises. I found myself running to my basement at 1am to try some of these; especially the one around the 5:00 mark. Nice octave jumps.

    Hello Jeff, many thanks for your videos and your instructional dvd+cd - I'm enjoying the exercises very much! I have a question - how to do the tongue-lip trills? I can do the tongue trills/rolling r's, I can do the lip trills but I absolutely can't get my head around on how to do the combination of both! Please, point me in the right direction, in what position to start, maybe, etc.? When I tried to imitate Andrew after watching this video the sound was nothing like it and my lips and tongue were all messed up and didn't produce this sort of continuous sound.. I must be missing something!
    Thank you

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  7 років тому +1

      Hello Yegor! Thanks so much for purchasing the DVD/CD. I am glad it is working out for you! As far as the tongue/lip trill is concerned I don't want you to get too caught up on it if it doesn't work for you. You can easily replace it with rolled r's or lip trills. The idea is simply to replace a challenging phrase in a song with something that takes very little effort. So if the tongue/lip trill is causing you to use a lot of effort, then move on to something easier. You can also replace the tongue lip trill by placing your tongue over your lower lip and gently caressing it with your upper lip. Then, as you sing a phrase or scale, keep the tongue in that position through out. You will find that it takes a lots of concentration to sing the scale this way but it also liberates the tongue and allows it to stay out of the pharyngeal space. I hope this helps you out!
      Peace,
      Jeff

    I really like what you are doing here with the student. Are you concerned at all that he is using his throat to produce his vibrato?

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  2 місяці тому

      Hi. And thank you for the nice comment. Andrew is such a gem. He’s been working steadily as Frankie Valli on cruise ships around the world since this video.
      At the time of filming this, he had just come out of a long battle with acid reflux that was thickening his cords. So the vibrato may have been a little more labored then, but now it spins like a top! Hope you’re subscribed and stay tune for more!

    Can I ask a question? What is the average low range for most tenors? I mean the range where they can practice or sing with a microphone (always in a full tone though, not whispering) not the range that is written in most tenor songs. Because I read on the internet all the time how most tenors don't have notes below Bb2, but I keep hearing tenors do A2 and even lower just fine. My previous voice teacher was a 100% pure blooded operatic tenor (with full voice high Es and Fs, and I'm not talking about reinforced falsetto) and he could go down to C2 (and it did not even sound like vocal fry, I swear). Your student's A2 was quite clear and comfortable and it looked like he could go at least 2-3 notes lower).

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  7 років тому +4

      Giannis VclScore that's a great question. I definitely train all of my tenor's in the lower register. I think they should at the very least have a solid low A2. If they can go lower all the better. Working the lower chest register strengthens the top. My teacher's teacher Alan Lindquest once said "Tenors should get in touch with their baritone side, and baritones should get in touch with their tenor side". I wholeheartedly agree with this statement!
      And yes, Andrew can sing a low G quite comfortably!
      Hope that answers your question! Thanks for watching! Please feel free to share the video with all your singer friends! 🌞🎶🎶🎶

      High E and F5?? Whoa, that must be mortally powerful - one weapon of a voice!

    • @okebaram
      @okebaram 5 років тому

      Giannis, every tenor has the potential to reach notes that a bass would be given, every single one, even if their voice has more versatility and color in higher registers. Okay having said that, I do have one question for you. What is your previous voice teacher's name, hopefully, he has something on UA-cam somewhere, would love to hear him sing!

    • @supernovavlogs152
      @supernovavlogs152 4 роки тому

      I’m a tenor? Maybe countertenor but I can go down to F2. My whole range is f2-F#5-E6-G7. My comfortable range is G2/G#2-C#5-D6-B6

    Ok so I heard that you worked a little bit with the greatest singer ever *DAVID PHELPS* I was wondering if you can help me sing like him.

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  5 років тому +2

      Hello Jaden. I get asked this question a lot. The best answer I can give you is that I am a vocal coach who helps singers realize THEIR voice's fullest potential. Mr. Phelps sound is due to years and years of training with coaches, recording himself on a daily basis to track his progress, rooting his technique in classically based concepts before he was able to develop the sound he has today, and as he puts it, "working the voice 1/4 tone at at time". There is only one David Phelps and their is only one Jaden Parrish. We never want to be a second rate version of someone else, only a first rate version of ourselves. But I can help you realize your voice's potential.
      I teach lessons in NYC and online. You can contact me for more information by emailing me at jeff@voicesoaring.com. I also have a wonderful instructional program called "Let Your Voice Soar" which available from my website at www.voicesoaring.com. I hope this reply helps you! Jeff Alani Stanfill Oh and one more question. When I go to sing high on words with an "a" or an "o" or "e" sound, I can hit them fine on an A4 or a Bb4. But on the words with an "ee" or "oo" sound it cracks or it strains. When I go into B4, C5, and higher, it feels more comfortable with the "ee" and "oo" sounds. Can you help me to where I can sing comfortable on the "ee" and "oo" sounds when I go for the A4 or Bb4?

      Hey Jeff I really love your program, I've seen significant improvements in my resonance and my tone especially! But there isn't any exercises really on jaw and tongue tension which I suffer with mostly. Any suggestions?

    And the coach didn't say anything about studen't tendency of lifting the larynx on the passaggio zone.

    • @tomuinen
      @tomuinen 7 років тому +3

      I was wondering the same. Effectively it disconnects from the appoggio. If proper support technique is used, a slight downward larynx movement is caused by the tracheal pull from proper breathing (not by conscious manipulation of larynx position) and that tracheal pull should be present during the whole phrase and the higher you sing the more support is needed. If larynx rises too much, voice will lose the 'singers formant'. But since he is a Broadway singer and not an opera singer, that is not a big deal since they have microphones and the voice will carry anyway over the orchestra. However that might not be very healthy for the voice in the long run. Rised larynx creates some unwanted tension and potentially could harm the vocal cords if done the wrong way. That's why it would be wise to address that rising larynx with any student.
