    Hello everyone. In this episode I am introducing you guys to a really cool vocal exercise that I developed based on concepts and exercises that I have found to be most helpful in preparing the voice to sing a high note. If you have been following this channel will notice that we are progressing into more complex themes of vocal registration, balance and singing into the upper register with freedom. Many thanks to my dear friend Todd Urban for creating the images of the exercise in all the keys!

    I'm exhausted but so energized and psyched! I couldn't do this exercise when I first started but now I'm able to do it smoothly AND I'm able to smoothly transition into and out of mixed voice. sooooo cool!! I've been working hard on the passaggio and I see the fruits of my work in this exercise. Thanks.

    I just used your prepare for the high note. I am working on Bellini's Ah no credea mirarti . From working many of your ideas on utube today I tried two things. I sang the aria through the straw and became aware of troubled spots, the e passagio from middle to head and singing softer there and higher. The last time I stopped before these phrases the blow out 2 times. It was like another person singing. Oh my God. Just thought you show know. Oh and by the way I am 72 yrs old. Still trying to improve for the joy of it. Marilyn Bosworth

      Wonderful! And it goes to show that the voice is a miraculous instrument that can literally become more youthful with the right exercises and concepts! My coach Maestro David Jones and I joke that we wish we could bottle and sell what happens in the voice with these exercises for our bodies which are not becoming more youthful! LOL! I'm thrilled that you are getting these results.

    Lovely exercise! The staccato certainly helps release the larynx and opens up more space and freedom for the high notes! Thanks so much! I do reccomend classes with Jeff Alani! He is so keen to grasp the students' needs and address them!

    I am a baritone and I could not do the exercises to the very end without discomfort in the beginning but I find that later on the Us and Es help soothing the transition from chest to head n back n it's amazing n I can do it almost effortless now.. Thanks Jeff for the tutorials ♥️

      Does the let your voice soar work on building the mixed voice because I find it's what's missing in my singing

      Hey Ghenevo. I’m happy you were able to take the time to practice the exercises until you were able to sing them comfortably. All exercises take time to work into a voice, just as working out takes time. Keep singing and let your voice soar!

    My head is in a pretty messy place right now. I can't figured out how to use my voice depending on the genre. Eg: the vocal technique i'm using to sing broadways or classical songs seems to works perfectly fine, but when i try to use the same technique on pop songs it sounds horrible. As a singer, i want to have some versatility.
    Also, I watch a lot of youtube videos on vocal tutorials. And here is the problem- eg: today a watched a tutorial video on how to sing better or use this certain technique..blah .blah..so i applied the technique in my singing and i suddenly sounded magical. It made me feel as if i have discovered the secret key to singing(i feel this way in every tutorial videos😬). So the next day super excited to sing, i try to apply the same technique again and it no longer works. So fustrating!!😫😌😥 I swear its not just a feeling of me singing better, but i even hear the recordings so much better than the previous days. I short, i feel like i sounded flawless each day but when i listen back to all my recordings, i hear no improvements.
    Maybe its all about mental

      Most of us vocal coaches put tutorials out there be cause we truly want o help singers like you find exercises and concepts that will take your voice to the next level. However, it is very important to have individualized coaching with a coach that you can connect with, and will take the time to truly understand how your voice works, and then design a vocal workout program geared towards your specific vocal needs. That's what I do with all of my clents/students.

    David Phelps has best breath capacity of any singer I've ever heard. The song "Oh, What a Time" that he sang with the Gaither Vocal Band proves my point perfectly. Thanks for all the help.

    Hi Jeff I have probably watched this video 10 times but others even way more. At this point I would like to give you a suggestion for the repeat viewer for any future videos. The explanations are great, top of the line, but I am finding it hard to fast forward past them to practice the exercises. I want to warm up for five minutes and do a specific different set of your exercises and be done in 20 minutes each morning and before every performance. Maybe you can add the duplicated exercises at the end and create a time block so we can go right to them?

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  2 роки тому

      The videos are presented to help you under an exercise. My suggestion for you is to take a one on one voice lesson with me so that you can have a set of exercises specific to your vocal needs.

    I like your explanations what the exercises do for our voice. Can you tell us when to breathe, please

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  7 років тому

      Hi Birgit Häde. The "blow the candle out" is the breath on the descending bree, breh, brah, broh, broo portion of the exercise. And then you can take a breath before the staccato five tone scale and you can also take a breath before the nine tone scale. I am never really too concerned about where singers take breaths as long as it doesn't interfere with the vowel or the legato line. Hope this answers your question and than you so much for watching! Peace, Jeff

    Hey Jeff, just a question. How high should typically baritones sing in terms of performance range?

    • @JeffAlaniStanfill
      @JeffAlaniStanfill  5 років тому +1

      Hello Tim. I believe a baritone should have at least a serviceable high G or Ab. If you look at any of the musical theater pieces like "Music of the Night" from Phantom or "Soliloquy" from Carousel, they each have high G's and Ab's. I have baritones in my studio that can easily sail to high Bb, B or C, they just don't want to live up there, like a tenor. Hope that answers your question! Peace
