    The second song, "Raisin' Cain", is one he's never been known to sing at any other time. No records, no live performances. Not even a version by another singer. The first song is "The Boat That I Row", which he has released and also performed live over the years.

      The only time I ever heard "Raisin' Cain" is here in this clip and in the "In My Lifetime" compilation. It's on old song from his Jack and Neil days as I recall. Neil is known for recording on the Bang label as well as Columbia, but he also recorded for many other small labels early in his career. I think one of the labels was called "Shell and Gulf" and their motto was "Our records are a gas." He started making a name for himself when the Monkees recorded his "I'm a Believer" and "A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You."

      @@melvingeloneck3344 "Raisin' Cain" is not in the "In My Lifetime" compilation. The Neil and Jack song included in it is "What Will I Do".

    This was epic. I started watching these episodes of Mannix after watching it as a child in the 70s. I heard Neil's voice and thought to myself that it sounded like it was "live". I was thrilled to see him actually playing in the bar. Then layer, one of my favourites " Solitary Man" played, too. Watching old tv brings back many memories and also makes you more aware of actors you didn't know back then.

    Well, well, well....thank you indeed for finding this little piece of Diamond History!...I had heard/read he did his acting debut on an episode of Mannix but until now have never seen it. As with the comment below, "Raisin Cain" never heard that anywhere else which makes this bit of footage extremely rare indeed on all points. How interesting it is to finally see this, I think if Neil had have had formal training for acting he would have done quite well.

      Was it the original Springfield? Not like I’d really know what all of them look like.
      I thought I might have caught a glimpse of Young, but wasn’t sure.
      The closing titles only credit Stills for the appearance...the band doesn’t get much visual coverage in the ep either.
      I know I heard some version of Bluebird.
      Maybe the other selection was Mr. Soul, which would confirm that was Young.?

    After two days of singing "Solitary Man" to myself for no reason, I suddenly saw him performing it on "Mannix", the "The Many Deaths of St. Christopher" episode, Ep. 1-4, 10/7/1967. I like this clip, but "Solitary Man" is one of the only 2 songs by him that I like.

    • @davecollins3710
      @davecollins3710 3 роки тому +2

      Agreed, maybe one or two others by Neil I like.
      Yeah, I thought I saw him do Solitary on Mannix, but then saw this ep and figured I was mistaken.
      He must have really liked the show to have appeared on it twice, or maybe he or his agent was buddies with Conners or the producers.
      There’s an ep that some form of the Buffalo Springfield appear in too, also in a coffee house type set.
      I think they did Bluebird, though not the original track; it was either an outtake, or a version Stills recorded for the show.
      A couple of early Mannix eps had a little hip thing going on, the later ones not so much.
      I watch the reruns on MeTv anyway, because insomnia, unless they’re really bad.

      Debbie, Diamond is to be respected for his decades of success, and millions of fans.
      Many of us, though, find the majority of his stuff corny, lowest common denominator musically and lyrically, and would rather listen elsewhere.
      He has a couple of tough tunes. That’s it.
      Doesn’t mean we think he’s terrible, just not to our taste.
      The world’s big enough for all of us.

I respect both of yours, just don't understand them 🤔 ... but that's ok, it's what "makes the world go round" ... I love music 🎶, lots of different kinds of music and artists, and Neil Diamond is just one of them ... sorry if I sounded a bit rude, didn't mean to ...

    • @davecollins3710
      @davecollins3710 2 роки тому

      @@debbieminton9589 I think Diamond wrote Along Comes Mary, and sold it to The Association.
      That’s a good track by them, though they have other hits I’m not crazy about, nor am I a great fan of their sound in general. They’re good, but a little soupy in my opinion. I prefer something with a touch more edge, even if it’s a ballad, maybe like the guy who started this thread, though I don’t know him. Just as I like YES, King Crimson, and other challenging sounds, I also like mainstream product if the artist is stretching.
      MY particular opinions about recording industry product are a result of the fact that I’ve been a professional musician since I heard and was inspired by certain artists that caught my ear when I was a young adult, much to my family’s dismay.
