lol i'm abt to comment on that one, like " are we not gonna talk abt the cameo of 'alfred' here?" anyway, I've watched plenty of your videos and absolutely fell in love with your channel
Read Please My Brother🥺 thanks for the video brother, I hope you are reading my comment, Muslims has been deminize and villainised by the media and politics. it's people like you knowledgeable person must make videos about those topics, removing misconceptions hatred a negativity about Muslims and Islam. "you judge a religion by its scripture not by humans" because humans are not perfect they have weakness limitation and flaws. you should make a UA-cam channel about Islamic theology. you made a video about Arab slave trade and so many people attaching to with Islam because you simply said Islamic Nation/country/land. Islam never said to create slavery or enslave people, Islam talk about freeing the slave and give mechanism to how to treat slave. brother I hope you make a video about this topic clear all the misconception people are having. Thanks Assalamu Alikum. Love from Bangladesh🥺❤️
Very funny! I laughed. (It took me a few seconds, though. At first I wondered why, when you mentioned Alfred Butler, you showed a picture of Michael Caine. Then I remembered he played Bruce Wayne’s *butler, Alfred*.) Very droll. Well done.
I'm a French Canadian and Catholic and I enjoy very much your videos, learning about the rich and fascinating Islamic history. Don't be discourage by hateful comments made by ignorant bigots, rather hope that at least a few of them will learn from your videos. Continue the good job.
Salut! 'Umar est mort en 644 ... les sources, que le gars amène pour prouver selon lui - contrairement aux sources musulmanes - que c'est pas le caliphe qui a fait détruire la bibliothèque, datent de 650 ans minimum APRÈS sa mort ! C'est loin d'être une ''good job'' de recherche en t k!
I just wanted to say that I’ve been watching your content for a while, and find it some of the more enlightened, illuminating, and thoughtful content on Islamic history on UA-cam. You maintain a commendable scholarly tone, discussing both the great elements of Islamic civilization and those elements that are regrettable or a bit embarrassing in the modern world. While admitting to being confessionally Muslim, you haven’t let such color your discussions; nor have you offered triumphalist or otherwise apologetic interpretations.
If I may add something, I also appreciate how you don't glorify or dramatise the warfare. It feels a little gross for me when watching some history channels that needlessly do this to wars; it feels wrong because real people lived and died in those events, they weren't something to praise or depict as 'heroic'. I appreciate it a lot. Also, I deeply appreciate you citing your sources, some channels don't do that, which feels a little unclear. Love this channel. Thank you!
@@JohnDaker35p Yes! This is something I really appreciate as well. Most Islamic history on UA-cam is presented in a polemical (either pro- or anti-) tone, or clumsily, i.e., not well-informed, and when they cite sources, which is rare, they’re obviously bias and sparse.
Everyone knows your situation. The whole world knows. Anyway if a country doesn’t sees its own citizens as fellow citizens then there’s always a consequence. India is following Pakistan. Love from Bangladesh.
@@adrianbelko7683 I don’t know. Maybe another riot like gujrat and of course you do get to kill thousands of your own citizens, but the outcome is never good. Todays gujrat is not the same as modis gujrat. Just look at Manipur. Yes you might kill a lot of Muslims, but in the end your country will suffer too.
Ancient peoples were capable of using exaggerated metaphors or symbolic claims without intending their words to be taken literally. In fact it was quite common.
When I first saw the poll I was confused by it? How can Caliph Umar destroy something that did not exist at that time. I have read and watched lots of documentary on the subject and it seems the library of Alexandria gradually declined and was nonexistent after 4th century onwards.
as an indian from a hindu family i am disgusted at what we are doing to our muslim brothers. so much hate, miseducation, propaganda, we're supposed to be one regardless of creed
Thank you so much There's so much obfuscation around Islamic and Arabic history even as an Arab born and raised in an arabic country I can get lost in the details and often come up frustrated and far more confused than enlightened. Your videos however offer a much needed nuance and critical insight into controversial issues and topics.
as a white dude living in Canada, it can be equally hard to find academic and authentic information. there are a couple good channels in the sea of hate and misinformation
this reason why our understanding (me syrian) to this region is confusing, is the arab nationalists. they try to paint a picture that middle east has been a pure arab lands since adam and eve but the enemies are trying change the language.
Ending this confusion is where leftist policy comes in. If you have 2 minutes just listen to the songs The Internationale and Solidarity Forever. Solidarity Forever has a line "is there aught we hold in common with the greedy parasite, who would lash us into serfdom and then crush us with his might" This is not about a foreign enemy but the capatalist owner calss. There are newer editions that are less militant but more explicit saying "they divide us by our color, they divide us by our tongue, they divide us men and women they divide us old and young. but they'll tremble at our voices when they hear the verses sung that the Union makes us strong". Then there is The Internationale which is kind of even more violent and has the lines "and end the vanity of nations, we have one earth on which live" and "let no one build walls to divide us, walls of hatered nor walls of stone, come greet the dawn and stand beside us, we'll live together or we'll die alone" . Point being you and I have more in common with a poor Christian or Hindu laborer or farmer than we ever could with a Muslim billionaire. A poor Jewish worker in the US has far more in common with us than with some Israeli billionaire. We need to let go of this religious or nationalist hate and focus on class. Billionaires make us fight each other, spread this propaganda against each other, so that we ignore the source of our problems, aka the ultra-wealthy owner class in our own countries, of our own skin color and claiming to be of our own religion.
There is rampant obfuscation around Western Christian history, too. In recent decades, the history of the “Age of Discovery” has been severely recast and reconsidered. This reconsideration has affected, emotionally and intellectually, many of us of Western European descent.
What an amazing collaboration between two of my favorite creators. I really appreciate how you were each able to add your own perspectives and areas of expertise to complement the other's work. I learned so much about this topic!
I salute your professionalism and your patience and politeness. Unfortunately, many like bashing everyone other than them, and few who appreciate the knowledge and diversity of thoughts. Please keep posting great videos. As a Muslim, I understand your commitment to presenting natural history. It's sad seeing the diverse culture of Islamic studies underrepresented or overly religious (skewing history).
Death is among the very few certainties of this dunya, and in its remembrance, we come to reflect on how we use our time. Death teaches us that amassing wealth and status is ultimately useless - our dollar bills will be of no use to us in the grave. Instead, we should focus on worshipping Allah and performing good deeds. These are the actions that will bring us enduring benefits that will last beyond the grave, and bring us success on the Day of Judgement. ua-cam.com/video/nc293g0IZds/v-deo.html
brother siyavish, you are a gem, we pakistanis are proud of you, i really love you, i am a student at lahore university of management sciences, you must be knowing about that, i am really envious of you're research ability and analysis. you are god gifted, may god give you strength and power to keep on doing such informative videos, thank you so much
This turned into a meta discussion but still stayed interesting. I just want to say thank you for all you do. It's always sad when content creators reach the point where they can't read their own comment sections for the sake of their own mental health, but most tragically it seems like an inevitability of being on UA-cam for a long enough time, especially as channels grow bigger. I understand the "positives" of nationalism insofar as it arises in opposition to imperialism, but I really feel like it has overstayed its welcome, especially in online discourse. So much harm and intolerance comes from it, it disgusts me. Feel free to be proud of your preferred country/state/nation (whether contemporary or historical), but you've gone too far when it clouds your ability to see things neutrally and start trampling on the rights or respects of people who don't fit in "your" group.
Hey, I wanted to leave a comment on your latest video to let you know that I have been enjoying your videos for a while now and appreciate your outlook on Islam and and Islamic history. I myself am a believer in Judeo-Christian Scripture, but I have had a fascination concerning Islamic culture. I appreciate your view of looking at Islam and its history from a secular perspective and I find is very useful for me to learn more about a civilization that I consider one of the most beautiful to ever exist. This is all to say you are doing much to teach others and to make the world a better place. Please keep going and doing what you are doing because you are learned and amazing.
I am sorry for what you suffered and what Indian muslims are suffering. I am an Italian Christian and I found out your channel while looking for a good channel on Islamic history and culture. I particularly appreciate the fact that you strive to keep your religious beliefs out of your historical research and divulgation.
India Muslims are way to happy than any islamic countries, its the low lives muslims trying to gain sympathy in the name of false profit mohammad its in their blood
@@prateeksharma6706thats what you say and then we hear stories of muslim school kids getting beaten up and movies being banned because they show a hindu brahmin chef reciting namaz cause she learnt the culture of a muslim woman cooking biryani. We hear words of harrasment for muslims now that the ram mandir is built and there has been tensions over maldives,
I am beyond happy to see my comment among the support. It's a goddamn shame that you even have to deal with this. If I remember, my comment even got an islamophobic response for some reason. It's ridiculous. I'm still subscribed and love the videos ever since that one. Keep up the good work. I really hope that India can find a way they can navigate away from a fascist future. Whatever your political persuasion, no one should accept such open bigotry among their own. It has to be a scary time to be an Indian Muslim.
I don't know man.... What the "Good" muslims are doing to stop the "Bad" muslims to do terror attacks? They keep happening, and also islam don't care about women. Places like Afganistan, Iran, Persia use islamic laws which prevents female from getting an education, be forced to wear hijab, and banned women from going to work? That's stone age way of thinking.
Honestly, half these comments I get are so random. I just can't make sense of them. You hear theories that, even when you google them, you can't find out anything about.
@AlMuqaddimahYT The idea that Catholics created Islam is strangely common among American evangelical Christians. They cite Khadijah's supposed connection to wealthy Christians in Mecca and similiarities between the misbaha and the rosary, although I'm pretty sure the misbaha predates the rosary by several centuries.
❤❤❤I was truly saddened to read some of those comments. I can imagine how demoralizing it must be for someone like you who dedicates a lot of time to studying fascinating history and communicating it to non-academics. I also want to encourage the hundreds of thousands of your followers and well-wishers to express their support and to help you continue your valuable work while ignoring ignorant trolls. Thank you for all that you do.
Another excellent video on the topic of the Library of Alexandria, to go with Kaz Rowe's own video discussing the myth surrounding the Library (albeit concentrating on the Western perspective and what the myth symbolizes on a greater scale). And it's genuinely tragic to hear about both the increase of Islamophobia in your comments and the worsening situation of Indian Muslims. Thank you for spreading more awareness, especially on the latter, and stay safe when it comes to the former, don't let their hate dissuade you and do whatever you need to deal with it! Your channel is a true gem shining in the dark, keep it up!
I am sure recording and uploading this must have been really difficult. Praying for your health and happiness Swayish Bhai. Really grateful for this channel.
my partner is from india (mumbai) and received the joy of being doubly minoritized by having been born gay and into a roman catholic family. while hes not very open about sharing those kinds of memories for perhaps obvious reasons, i can tell that his life before coming to the US was not the most pleasant. i dont have the wherewithall to keep up with global news atm, so thank you for sharing this info about hindu nationalism, as i can now somewhat better appreciate the political environment into which he was embroiled as a child and young adult. thats not at all to say that i didnt also learn new things about islamophobia in this vid, but my first thought went back to my man, because i love him. thanks and keep the light🌟
Hey, just wanted to voice my support for you. I've learned a lot from you and you've sent me down a lot of rabbit holes where I'll spend weeks reading about things you talk about. I know I'm only 1 of many people who enjoy your videos, but I get genuinely excited whenever I see that you've posted a video, even if it's a short. Anyway, I just wanted to put that out there. I really hope you keep up the good work. You're definitely a bright spot on UA-cam as far as I'm concerned.
As someone born in a Muslim country to White British parents the way the middle east and Islam were portrayed in the UK press was striking from an early age. I think I first saw it in the coverage after Iraq invaded Kuwait and some parts of the media made little to no effort to distinguish between fanatics and the majority. A British columnist was cited by the New Zealand shooter as an inspiration. Appreciate what you do at any rate and hope you keep up the good work with the channel.
It's so hard to find unbiased information about the Islamic faith in the West. That's why I love this channel. I really like that Islam is open to multiple prophets in the ancient age, especially Hermes Trismegistus and other truly esoteric figures. I became more interested in learning about this faith after joining Freemasonry, as it is one of the three core religions it borrows from.
Appreciate your work as always, man. I feel for you when you mentioned reading comments and I respect your patience in sorting through them. If it were me, I would pretend they don't exist and wouldn't even bother replying. Maybe even block some of the more extreme ones. Freedom of speech does not negate the consequences
I voted for one of the other topics in the poll because I didn't think "uh, no?" could produce an interesting video and was disappointed to see it get such a large share of the votes. Glad you did something productive with it.
You’re doing great work! I’ve learned so much from your videos. I’m sad but not surprised that you get such awful responses. I hope they don’t discourage you because you are one of very few English language channels presenting Muslim history in such an accessible way.
Love and support from the Philippines! As a History student in a majority-Christian conservative nation and with a liberal Christian upbringing, it was quite a revelation to study in our history classes about our Muslim Moro brothers and sisters in Mindanao, especially about their history during the colonial eras and how they struggled to fight back (and ultimately and unfortunately lose) against Spanish and American colonial rule, as well as oppressive policies done by the central government since independence. It sucks to learn and study how deeply ingrained Islamophobia is in our society, especially considering the long post-independence history of terrorism and poverty among Moro provinces and how it has obfuscated understanding of the Moro peoples by the conservative Christian majority. Even well-meaning and well-learned people still retain some degree of Islamophobia, consciously or unconsciously, in trying to explain matters or events pertaining or related to Moros and Muslims in general. Still, it's people like you, i.e. the many historians and content creators that discuss about the Islamic world, that help pave the way and reshape our understanding of a people that has for so long been othered and villainized by colonialism, terrorism, and Islamophobia. Keep up the good work, but please do take your time in taking care of yourself!
plz look up👇 Falsh Point History podcast... i think it is on youtube, too the author covered the moors plus the punic wars in 25 hr podcast ur correct actually, i never knew it was a success until i visited Spain 20 yrs ago and spoke to locals in Cordoba Grenada and Seville
btw... this Islamophobia u were exposed to... mostly came from the Spanish Catholic church... not the people remember it was the church stood against the people during the Franco Fascist rule btw...that doesn't mean the Moors and Muslims were angels hell no .. hell no but honestly..it was one of the first successful multi cultural experiments which lasted for 800 yrs for the last day that continued ✌️
@@fatimahzahra5612 my mistake. What i meant to say was that mindanaoan sultanates were ultimately subjugated by the american colonial occupation of the philippines
I found out - after spending some time browsing Reddit - that those attack on Islam can take a toll on someone's mentally. If I see myself as a family man who help others, never liked violence or hate and feel sympathy toward other's sufferings, and I attributed this to following the teaching of Islam, then those attacks will seem - to me - like those people hate - not only my faith - but me personally! I don't know how you do it brother with all those comments. May Allah help you and guide you to the right path.
Islam is a religion with a canonical doctrine, subscribing to it is a package deal - you at least tacitly align yourself with the doctrine as a whole. If you want to be associated only with the things you personally like then I suggest you find a religion without canonical doctrine.
@@EresirThe1st It's one of the basic things to learn about Islam, as clearly stated in Quran 2:84: "...Do you believe in some of the Scripture and reject the rest? Is there any reward for those who do so among you other than disgrace in this worldly life and being subjected to the harshest punishment on the Day of Judgment? For Allah is never unaware of what you do."
@@helkaray2g20how does it attack other faiths exactly? Because it doesn’t take them as truth? Guess what Christianity does the same thing! And in actuality Islam gives non Muslims protections as citizens as long as they pay the jyzia (1%) which is less than the zakat Muslims pay (2.5%) as well as the fact that only military age men pay the jyzia!
@@helkaray2g20 If I follow the right path, and other follow the wrong one... does the path I follow "Superior"? Don't make it about the people as you intended in your reply. Also, here's how my "Superior" faith tells me to do, in Quran (16:125): "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and kind advice, and only debate with them in the best manner. Surely your Lord knows best who has strayed from His Way and who is rightly guided." You can read the next 3 verses and tell me: do you agree with this method, or do you prefer to make it a shouting match?
To light a candle is better then to curse darkness. Keep on making these videos even if one person is transformed from bigotry and hate to understanding and empathy then you have made the world a better place.
You have really improved your video content. it's precise, clear and informative. No unnecessary tangents that leave you in suspense making you hope the video just ends. Well done sir
Life is complicated, so people narurally cling to "truths" (rather than verify them) to underpin other explorations. This happens in science as much as politics/history. The key thing is not to get depressed or angry at myths (whatever the domain or obnoxiousness) but to continuously educate and contribute in a positive way. I think you did this very well in this video. Well done! Keep up the good work 😊
Hey. I don't normally comment on videos and I just wanted to be a drop in the pool of support for you man. I am a fan of yours. I'm really happy I get to learn from you.
Just want to say I love this channel, have learned a lot about it and I tell my friends about it. My family are Indian christians but I've always been interested in the history of Islam and the level of detail on this channel is really commendable.
As a French Christian, I can't tell you how sorry I am about my fellows' islamophobic rhetoric. I grew up in a Muslim country, and have had a lot of exposure to some aspexts of Islam, so it came as a real shock when I heard people complaining about the religion, from the classic "We don't feel at home in our own country" - describing the cultural impact of mostly North African Muslim immigrants, that have been concentrated in low-income suburbs - to the "Islam isn't compatible with Western democracies" nonsense that I have heard a few times. The thing is, the more time passes, the more I fear that our different subcultures are being radicalized more and more, and I fear for my country's future, as the dreams of fraternity are being torn apart by hate...
@Morall332 It is easier to be angry at someone at their fault and difficult to love them difficult to love and forgive them despite their flaws. Remember this at least when you are with your loved ones. If you truly love them then you will chòose love.
I only don't think religious Muslims would ever integrate into athiest republican culture of france It's just not gonna happen.....there's always going to be friction between those groups leading to chaos And tbh I think the west should rethink it's immigration such mass immigration of cultures so different should not be allowed

You are doing good my man. It's hard to navigate the subjects that you are navigating, and I sometimes find myself disagreeing with you sometimes but I have nothing but admiration for all the poop you have to dodge along the way. Love from India.
When I was 10 years old and searched up "Islam" online, the first search result was "Answering Islam". It takes a lot of courage to stand up to cyberbullies who espouse anti-Islamic bigotry, and even more to address the real-life contemporary consequences of Islamaphobia around the world. I commend you for being so open about your feelings on these problems. I often find myself surrounded by two extremes. On the one hand, we have the islamaphobes who hate us and often spew mean-spirited ignorant bigotry to make us feel horrible about ourselves, and then on the other hand, there are highly conservative Muslim speakers all across social media who appear to speak on behalf of all Muslims and only present a specific kind of theological rhetoric and perspective. I think more scholarly liberal Muslim perspectives should be represented online. I appreciate how your work helps to bridge this gap by focusing on the fascinating history of Islamic civilizations. Thank you for addressing the issues you raised in your video.
Answering Islam is a group of Çhrīstian apologists who are well read in both Qur'anic and Biblical literature, they never hàrass opponents or threaten violence against them like the likes of Ali Dawah and Muhammad Hijab do, they simply talk, & talking about Islam from a critical standpoint doesn't account for cyberbullying or religious bígotry mate. Trying to shut the critics down by labeling them Islamophobés simply makes it obvious who's up for spreading awareness about the truth, liberal values, freedom of expression and who's just pretending

I hope your mental health doesn't suffer too much from people's comments, your videos are great and you are very articulate and always seem aware of your own biases and make sure we know this, so anger directed at you is wild
Thank you for your honesty and even handed trearment of this subject. As a non-religious person, I look for honest sources of information like what you are providing here. I have subscribed and I am watching a bunch of your videos. You are on the right path. Do not let those who hate you have any power over you! Keep speaking out. In today's world, we need people like you to not be quiet!
Love...this...channell...and the way it has a completely neutral approach to presenting history rather than a religious one...... Also...your accent is super addictive to listen to......and new video format is even more engaging........ Keep it upp....🙌🙌
Non-religious theology nerd here. I'm pretty sure ever race and every religion throughout history has committed terrible acts. But that doesn't mean the individual peoples are bad. We should all strive for peace beyond belief. Keep going, man.
Excellent video. History---or indeed fake history---that is carrying an important message for today, is my favorite. Carry on! Thanks for your efforts!
Thanks brother Sawyish for speaking and raising the issue of us Indian Muslims. I'm from New Delhi. We Muslims now don't feel safe and secure anymore. Today's India is the same as Hitler's Nazi Germany. Discrimination against us has become very common. We Muslims were denied access to jobs , admission in University and Schools, houses, and even facing boycott in every aspect of life either social or economical. Our identity has been suppressed and facing constant violence because of being Muslim. No week goes without listening to news such as Pogroms and Riots against us , lynched , Hate speeches....
Are you certain that none of them are recycled content? I am a hindu, and I don't agree with our current government or their actions. But when Muslims in bengal are killing Hindus or not letting them vote, that's fine cause they don't resemble your group or you are far away from them. Tbh we should be condemning all of it. Much love and wishing you a healthy life
Thank you for the video. In it's entirety, I appreciated it all. We need more long suffering folks such as you putting out, both, informative historical content and a voice a reason. Liked. Subscribed. Thank you.
My brother, I love your videos and I am sorry for what you go through. Please keep protecting your mental health. A couple of things. As a mental health clinician I feel it important to warn against using clinical or quasi-clinical language "psychopath" to describe evil people. I know its very common, but it still negatively impacts highly traumatized people with personality disorders. Just FYI. These modi supporters/hindu nationalists are EVERYWHERE. I live in the US, in the midwest, and I encounter them in real life, in places that are really scary (like political fundraisers for US federal level politicians) and it just feels like their rhetoric is dangerous, of course first and foremost to muslims in India (and those mistaken for muslims) but far beyond that. I heard one guy trying to convince a politician that muslims are literally responsible for most sex trafficking that occurs in the world... at an event run by a person, of unknown politics, who has a non-profit which is supposed to oppose sex trafficking. They are trying to criminalize faith, criminalize obedience to G-d, criminalize our very existence by associating us with the wildest shit (this guy literally tied sex trafficking to their paranoid miscegenation anxiety fantasy of "love jihad"). I'm so sorry you have to deal with these creeps on your channel, which is very intellectually stimulating and informative. Thanks for the poll, by the way. It was exciting to help pick the topic! And this was the one I voted for.
NOW I understand why this video got the most votes. As you've implied, this is probably the option in your poll that you would've had to do the least research about, and the reason for that being that it's already widely known to be fabricated. I voted for the universities one because I thought it would be more important to understand how Islamic society worked, but the issue you've addressed here is a lot more serious and immediate. Islam is these days a very sensitive talking point, which in turn makes Islamophobia (a word not even suggested by my Google keyboard) a very sensitive talking point. Why? Why does it need to be? It's only because we have people like you that this gets addressed, otherwise the xenophobes would have the entire planet to themselves. Suppose this is my opportunity to thank you for all the hard work and effort you put into your videos. Well researched and well presented, you are a much-needed asset in promoting understanding and combating this evil phenomenon. I hope you carry on what you're doing.😊

Michael Caine's cameo as Alfred J Butler was quite unexpected😂😂
I just wanted to say that I’ve been watching your content for a while, and find it some of the more enlightened, illuminating, and thoughtful content on Islamic history on UA-cam. You maintain a commendable scholarly tone, discussing both the great elements of Islamic civilization and those elements that are regrettable or a bit embarrassing in the modern world. While admitting to being confessionally Muslim, you haven’t let such color your discussions; nor have you offered triumphalist or otherwise apologetic interpretations.
Basically, a loser.

Wonderful discussion! Really appreciate your perspective on this.

This turned into a meta discussion but still stayed interesting. I just want to say thank you for all you do.

Liked. Subscribed. Thank you.
Thanks for raising the voices of concern🙌
So happy to have found your channel.
Love your attitude against bigots, respect.

I hope you carry on what you're doing.😊
thanks, for bringing some Illuminations to this period, it is so enlightening and educative.
