    My mother loves her pellet stove, but after watching your video I'm a bit concerned for her. So it's a paper weight if the power goes out? I think I will have to get her a solar generator dedicated to power the pellet stove. Thank you so much for creating this content. it's very helpful and I hope more people watch to get informed.

      You're welcome! I goofed and undersized my Jackery (will keep it anyway for camping and charging phones, laptop, etc.). Make sure the solar generator you get can run at least 550W continuous during the startup. Peak power will be higher, but continuous rating is more important. A unit with more than 550W continuous will also be able to run the pellet stove for 8-10 hours, or more (with no extension cord to trip over).

      @@jedi_mapperp4073 once again thank you so much. I have one of the bluetti 2000 and it runs the fridge and freezer all night. It's pricey but my mom is worth it. Great feedback and really appreciate the response back.

      Look at a computer UPS system that automatically switches over to the battery when the power fails, they are cheaper than the battery generator

      @Johnny Rosov All the fans and blowers are pretty much the same in all pellet stoves. Buy parts from a respected vendor. The Castle Serenity design is good. If something goes wrong I fix it myself. See my other videos.

    I bought my pellet stove from Lowes for 599. There's a 30% Federal incentives on the stove and everything else used during the construction, includes stove pipes.
    I bought the stove to save money and have alternative heat source during power outage.
    My solar battery system can run my stove for roughly 72 hours without sun.
    With Sun, indefinitely 😊
    My pellet stove draws 325 watts during ignition. 65-75 watts after the igniter goes off.

    This is a very interesting video. I am in the process of getting a pellet stove. Of course I would prefer a real wood stove but the cost of the stove and chimney is just too much, plus my house insurance don't like real wood stove. Pellet stoves are more accepted.
    I was leaning toward a Harman pellet stove as it is one of the best one. However, there is another video much like yours, were this guy have a Harman pellet stove and does the same tests. His Harman stove runs at above 325 watts compare to your 60 watts when the fire is well established.
    This is critical for me as every year we experience a major power loss that last between 2 and 5 days. This is always happening in the dead of winter in the worst weather imaginable. I need a stove that will run for many hours / days off a battery pack. Your kind of pellet stove uses around 5 times less electricity than the Harman pellet stove. This way I can reasonably put together a power pack that will be good for many days, which will be prohibitively more expensive to put together the equivalent for a Harman stove.
    This is a game changer for me. Thank you

      You’re in luck. I have a Harman Accentra fireplace insert in the basement. Both stoves have been running during the deep freeze this week. I’ll perform the same test on the Harman. Note: I bought the Harman from an owner who neglected it, never servicing/clean it properly. When I got it it wasn’t running well, so I got it cheap. It’s a 2004 model. I completely refurbished it myself. You can find the videos on my channel. Now it runs great. A new one is almost $6000. So bang for the buck is definitely in the Castle Serenity. Build quality and performance is in the Harman. Top feeders (Castle) must be cleaned daily). Bottom feeder (Harman) somewhat clean themselves by pushing in pellets from the bottom. Still, in your situation the Castle is a great option.

    Were in Tennessee and was on the fence between mini split and a pellet stove lol. I have a ecoflow delta pro with a 1800 watt array so powering wouldn't be an issue for power outages and grew up in Vermont with woodstoves and pellet stoves. This is a nice video and understanding for the power consumption. Obviously powering this pellet stove with a small powerstation is super easy but the price of pellets and cleaning compared to the 1 time purchase of the mini split is the only thing getting me. Lol The heat off the pellet stove is AMAZING and the flame is gorgeous and also amount of power the pellet stove uses ( basically my box fan running at 50 watts) is outstanding. All this has still got me on the fence. I guess the mini split just is more enticing for the summer for free cooling lol. What do you think?

      @jedi_mapperp4073  10 місяців тому +1

      I hear you! I’m constantly considering a mini-split to replace the pellet stove, but when winter comes we all stand around the pellet stove after coming in from the cold.

    Another channel I watch theirs always used around 280-300 watts constant, yours seems much lower, so they might not all be consistent. Not sure what brand they had, but theirs stayed at the same wattage for like 5 hours.

  • @hankjones8814
    @hankjones8814 Рік тому

    Those numbers seem low to me, I have a different stove but mine draws 240-300 watts running. What does your user manual say for specifications?

    • @jedi_mapperp4073

      According to the manual 402 W ignition. The spikes to 502 must be including the intermittent starts of the auger. According to the manual 77 W operating. My running Watts are slightly lower, 42-66 W, because I run it on the lowest setting. Even on lowest setting it will get too warm in the sunroom except below 20 degrees. During this arctic blast we just got over Christmas weekend used the thermostat control and set it to 73. It maintained 75 according to room thermometer. The outside temperature dropped as low as 4 degrees. This is a very efficient stove. It’s not comparable to the Harman in the basement (love the bottom feeder design), but the Serenity is an excellent value. Great controls. Easy to service.

    Can you folks think of any reason not to suck outside air from below? I have a propane inlet in my floor that will be available when I remove the propane heater and install the pellet stove. All the literature I've seen shows the inlet pipe going straight out the back. Since I have a hole in the floor already, I'd like to use it. Thanks for your ideas.

    • @jedi_mapperp4073
      @jedi_mapperp4073  10 місяців тому +1

      Does the hole in your floor go to a crawl space or a basement? If to a crawl space with outside air easily drawn under the house, then yes, it is fine. Just put a screen over the inlet so mice can’t enter. If you have a basement that is heated part of your home - it will not work because you’ll be using indoor air for combustion, which will draw cold outside air into your home around windows and doors, etc.

      I've never tried because even at a middle setting on a day in the teens the house was so warm we had to open a window. I think it would run about 10 hours on highest setting.

    MY stove runs at 300 watts after the ignition which in a good down situation I would disconnect that and start the fire by alcohol gel right now I have for 100 amp hour lead acid batteries that are kept charged by my solar system in the yard which is only 200 amp panels. It will run my stove for four hours I want to go lithium ion and I don’t know what size if I have two lithium ion batteries that have 3500 W hours and my pellet stove require 7000 W hours for a 24 hour period does that mean that those batteries will run my stove for 24 hours? And if I increase my two panels to 600 or 800 watch I’m assuming I will have a better chance at running that pellet stove more than four hours a day in the winter time? I do also have a gas generator so I can fill-in I also have a woodstove to fill-in however I have not been able to determine on any of these UA-cam channels how much battery and solar I need to run the 300 Watt unit continuous? DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO CALCULATE THE BATTERY AND THE SOLAR PANELS REQUIRED TO RUN IT IN A GRID DOWN SITUATION😳
