    I've been loving your videos. Thanks for sharing all the different pens. Oh, and this word Fude is pronounced Fu (rhymes with moo the sound a cow makes) and de (like day of the week) Just trying to be helpful.

      piecescalligraphy Thank you for your videos. They are very helpful and informative. I ordered pentel fine tip and I did not notice at glance difference and I was confused when pens arrived. Then I saw your video and find model. Model number for fine tip is s520, fude touch is SES15C. Finally I got pack from Japan pack of 12 pentel fude touch pens and they are really great. I will use them more for practice as well as tombow dual which is as you said also one of my favorite.

    Thank you, I was practicing calligraphy but put it away for awhile when my husband was undergoing cancer treatment but now I'm getting back into it. I'm glad I found you, it's slow and you take your time which is very helpful to me. I have so many pens, more than I'll never need so I need to find the one that works best for me. As usually I get myself overwhelmed by trying to do Bible journaling and I love mixed media and then I have Bible study at church and the things I do on my own in the Bible. I try to do way too much and that's not including trying to do housecleaning, I've had 4 back surgeries and the 3rd one with the metal put in messed me up and was coming apart. Long story short it had to come out and now my spine sticks out and I'm in constant pain and cleaning is nearly impossible. But things like calligraphy I can sit with a pillow and heating pad and enjoy it. So I'm saving your tutorials so I can look at them. God bless and thank you so much!

    Thanks a lot. Video was super useful. I'm pretty good with a standard metal calligraphy pen so when I bought a brush pen for art I was pretty dejected when I couldn't get my lines thin. I guess the quill are more forgiving but after watching your video I applied your technique to drawing and it worked like a charm...Um...Did you say monkey?

    my struggle is moving from normal cursive to more calligraphic style, I am not sure where to lift the pen. In traditional cursive you don't lift the pen, so I am struggling to determine where I can/should lift the pen

    • @piecescalligraphy
      @piecescalligraphy  9 років тому +1

      +pamela patterson Hi Pamela! Apologies for this late reply. I will share a more in-depth post on lifting the pen!
      In the meantime, one tip I can share is that you want to lift the pen after the exit stroke of a letter. Every letter has its own unique exit stroke, but the idea is to finish the letter at either the waistline or halfway through the x-height. In my most recent video on overturns, I briefly explain how I lift the pen when I connect the overturn strokes.
      Hope this helps in the meantime!

    I seem to have jagged edges to my strokes when going from thick to thin strokes. I know practice makes perfect, but do you have any specific tips for that particular issue? ☺️ TIA!

    • @piecescalligraphy
      @piecescalligraphy  8 років тому

      Yes - those jagged edges may come from either a fraying tip (which is inevitable with some pens that get worn down easily) or from lack of control. Do not worry about shakiness with your grip - I often have shakiness, too. Focus more on really creating a contrast between those thick and thin strokes. And also give other pens a try - some have a firmer tip and therefore will be easier to control. Hope that helps!

      It's not pronounced as "foo", it's more of a "fuu" sound. Your lips shouldn't form the oo shape. Imagine going "brrrrrr", the "bu" sound at the start before the r comes in is how you should pronounce "fu", except with an f, not a b. Kind of like how you pronounce "fir" but you open your mouth smaller, to get the "uh" sound. It's hard to describe lol, go listen to someone say it.

    • @piecescalligraphy
      @piecescalligraphy  8 років тому

      +Carmen Leong Thanks, Carmen! I am still working on it, but your explanation helps. I didn't realize it's not so much an "oo" but more of a "uu." You'll have to bare with me as I already filmed tomorrow's (Sunday) video and probably still haven't pronounced it 100% correctly!

      +Lady Reaper Glad you found the video helpful! And yikes! I try with the pronunciations... The word Fudenosuke is so difficult! Do you happen to know how it's pronounced phonetically?

    • @ajax9122
      @ajax9122 9 років тому

      +piecescalligraphy Yes! It's pronounced like fu is like kung fu, de like day, no is like the regular no, then suke sounds like skay. So it's foo-day-no-skay. It"s Japanese, so if you copy and paste " ふでのすけ "-which is Fudenosuke- into Google Translate, then hit the sound button, the way she says it is correct. Google Translate isn't really known for the best translations, but the audio (in this case, anyway) is accurate. I hope this helped!!! XD

    • @ajax9122
      @ajax9122 9 років тому

      +piecescalligraphy After watching more videos featuring the Fudenosuke pen, I heard other people say it the same as you up in the video, so I guess "Foo-de-no-su-ki" is acceptable as well. I suppose it all comes down to if you want to say it the original Japanese way, or the more Americanized version! ^_^

    it's helpful. your voice is sweet. I've just started in Calligraphy for a few days and I've been wondering is it depending on the brush type more or it's all depending on how we use hands more? +Avery Bui (Hanh Bui) The right brush pen can make a world of a difference. so yes, I'd say that the point (also called tip, or nib) needs to be the right one for the particular kind of work you want to create. different pens work for different situations.
