Thanks for these basic strokes! I need a lot of practice! I jumped right in with letters and soon realized I couldn't do that ... Developing the muscle memory will help! Thanks, again!
Awesome! Thanks so much for sharing your talent. You are an excellent teacher! I used a 3B pencil and was able to get the same effect. You teach so calm, clear and simple!!!! You are a blessing to this world.. Peace n love
Jenn, your a wonderful teacher. I really like the way you have divided the letters into parts. Will you be showing us how to do the capital letters too. I would like to see that as well please. Thank you
Thank you so much for this! It's really helped a lot. I'm just starting brush calligraphy and I'm only relying on UA-cam videos and this one is awesome! I'm having a hard time creating "e" and "l" so with more practice using these strokes, I hope I can do them well soon. Thanks!
I honestly don’t do this practice stroke thingy in every calligraphy I try to learn. I just do the words directly even though I know it looks horrible at first but by doing that I can really tell how much I improved.
IS THAT PENTEL FUDE SIGN BRUSH PEN? I LOVED THAT MUCH! IT'S DURABLE AND IT HAS SOFT BRISTLES FOR THIN AND THICK STROKES! ALSO, LOVED YOUR BRUSH LETTERING! YOU JUST EARNED A SUBSCRIBER. 💕
Also, I noticed you are using a different pen then this Pentel for your other letter videos, or am I incorrect? If it is different would you mind telling me which other pen you like to you for the brush lettering. Thanks again
coincidentally i already had the same pen so when i was watching it i tried to follow, but i find it soo hard to draw thin lines o___o but i'll keep on practicing, thanks :)
You are not holding your pen right.....other vloggers all say the angle on holding the pen is really important. I can't see how you are writing because of the way you hold your pen.....
It is painful to watch you hold your pen. There is so much strain on your thumb joint that the skin is blanched white. Also, I see the tension on your wrist tendons. In time this will lead to debilitating damage to the muscles and tendons of your wrist and hand and possibly make the art, that you so evidently love so much, impossible for you to do. If schools are not going to teach handwriting at least they should teach children how to hold a pencil or pen correctly. There are people, such as yourself, who still do a lot of writing.
I am not offended. I think your writing is beautiful. How you hold your pen is the fault of your elementary school teachers. I am pointing out that how you hold your pen will likely cause damage to your nerves and tendons. Eventually, it may be impossible to do the beautiful art you, your viewers, and I so much enjoy.
Well done! I am an older Artist, just learning this style of Calligraphy and sharing it with my students at the Middle school where I teach. I will be following closely and viewing all of your lessons, as I teach both traditional and digital art.
Me again. I purchased the pen LePlume II, Marvy 1122. It has a thick side the other side is a very thin side. I tried doing exactly what your doing but the thicker side is just not letting me get that thin line . Is this the wrong pen to start with? And if so can you recommend a good starting pen?
Hi Jenn . As a beginner what would you suggest to start learning brush calligraphy? Should I use pencil instead of pen brush in practicing writing? Thanks
I bought these pens, but they are not writing like yours. Does it need to be broken in? Its very stiff and I'm not getting the thin/ thick lines when I go from upward to downward strokes
Thank you so much for this video! You did a great job of explaining and demonstrating in a manner that helps beginners, like me. Your writing is beautiful!
I loved this. I've done my own style of calligraphy for years and I didn't even realise that there were different strokes to it. Thank you so much for showing this. I loved watching your tutorial is so easy to follow.
You mentioned that you like this paper to letter on. What if you're doing the brush lettering for a card or something where you don't want the dots on it? Is it just a matter of practicing and getting consistent?
Hi! Yesterday I bought a faber castell pitt artist pen. I would just like to know if can that pen achieve that line variation? What would be a good brush pen to use for a newbie in calligraphy like me?

PPS. She did not think that you were ACTUALLY offended. Your failure with speech pragmatics makes me think you have Aspergers.
its true though. she could damage her hand from long term stress. I think everyone is misunderstanding the point of this message.

You're welcome.
Your video WAS THE difference in many of my students' increase in understanding this week.
Excellent tutorial - many thanks! Can I know what angle are those slanted lines at - 60 degrees? 45?
What pen are you using? I couldn’t hear the name fully in the video. Thanks!
Which pen are u using to make strokes
I’m just starting Calligraphy, should I purchase the paper you are using or can I just start with regular writing or blank paper? Thank you.
Jenn Coyle Palandro oh ok. Thank you.

Are you supposed to experience wrist pain while brush lettering? Particularly on the far right underside of your right wrist? (Right handed)
