Helped his Drum Tech put his kit together back in the Blaze Bailey days when they came to a Detroit Club many years ago...very impressive and everyone was so Nice...
He is a really nice guy. Some friends and myself met him and his son at PASIC 1998 in Orlando. He was just hanging out before going out on a tour. He is as nice in person as he is on this video: a real genuine guy!
Im a guitarist/pianist/bassist/violinist..basically multi instrumentalist who has never really got into percussion, well i enjoy it and enjoy playing it and that gong...it spoke to me it was beautiful
I couldn't tell you. I have been around Paiste since 1985 and I love them. I think they usually get good reviews. They are just expensive, but you get what you pay for and they are the best!
Those Signature Heavy full crashes are just gorgeous sounding. And it being reflectored, makes them even more beautiful. I'm sure theyre quite expensive though.
That`s good! I have tried it and concidered buying it but thought it was too specialized for me? Kept to my 2002 but maybe in the future. Nicko is great inspiration!
Nicko is a Paiste Ambassador and a good friend of the company. He loves Paiste cymbals, and has used them since long before he joined Maiden (and got the endorsement deal), and really cares about which cymbals he's using. He will happily promote new things paiste make if they fit his style, not because he gets payed, but because he wants to. Name one Zildjian endorser who's told his company to put on an extra logo on the back of his cymbal so that the audience can really see what brand he uses.
I'm in love with that ride!!! I'm afraid it could sound too noisey, I mean it is the opposite of a dry ride, so I guess that is not easy to be played...did you hear the whistle that it makes in the background?
Nicko has to be one of the coolest people ever. He's an incredible drummer, has a great personality, and he cant help but make you laugh. What a guy, WHAT A DRUMMER!
what a nice guy =] Wish i could meet him because it wad him who inspired me to start drumming. Mum bought me the Rock in Rio DVD and i was blown away. Hes got amasing energy and everything he plays doesnt sound out of place and he really enjoys himself. p.s. That Ride cymbal new is like £300 when i last checked =p
One thing i love about this guy is that he's one of the few drummers that have been in the buisiness for a long time, that doesn't wear. A: A tight, light colored tanktop. B: A backwards hat. C: Bald hair (on purpose) D: Or sunglasses when he plays.
Yes, he says that he owns one of the two existing gong from paiste, or maybe one of the only two existing gong from that serie...anyway guys did you take a look to the drums? The toms are wonderful, beautiful colour and pictures...Up Nicko!!!
I love how Nicko has used his celebrity status for good. He uses his stature to teach and educate drummers of all ages about cymbals and drums, and the proper techniques on how to play the instrument. Reminds me of the Dom Fimularo of Sabian!
professor McBrain xD. He sounds friendly, nice guy... I'm a Zildjian guy but Paiste did an excellent job on making these cymbals, great sound and beautiful looks. I also like the new Black Alpha line from Paiste.
He uses remo. coated ambassador x on the toms batterside, ambassador ebony on the resonance side of the toms. Fiberskyn ambassador 3 on bassdrum batter side and coated emperor x on snare. Everything is Remo ofcourse! ;)
@mufc99ok yes actually...the drummer for my band uses about as many cymbals as nicko, and he uses every one of them and they each actually have their own place in our songs
Im a Sabian guy now--but "SOMEWHERE IN TIME"--i would have loved his ride cymbal--Nicko's a great guy & Iron Maiden is awesome--i would've had "INFINITE DREAMS" using that ride
Ah, I see how that can be misunderstood. Most brands, including paiste and zildjian has got a logo on the back, allright. Nicko had two logos (at 12 and 6 o clock) on his ride in the past, so that the audience could always see at least one, no matter if the ride cymbal rotated a little during the shows.
@patton303 I'm a double bass drummer. I'm sure you're supposed to mean that as an insult, but personally i require both bass drums since neither foot is as strong as NIcko's. Left-handed, left foot dominant, on a right-handed kit. Not all double bass drummers are as bad as you think; i actually love Nicko, he's such an awesome bloke.
When I'm air drumming along to my favourite songs they are pAiSTe cymbals in my imaginary kit because of this video and also because Dave Lombardo uses pAiSTe
my favourite cymbals are zildjian and paiste. i just love the way they sound. but zildjuan can get a bit expensive when for the same sort of sound paiste is cheaper
Strictly speaking, there is not a huge difference. When 505 series was introduced in the late 70s, they were marketed as more affordable cymbals for beginner and intermediate drummers, but they caught on well with professional drummers too. The PST8 series is kind of the modern equivalent of the 505 series. The 2002 series is, of course, a professional series. Sound wise, the 20" 505 medium ride has a lower, more washy kind of sound, making it great for drum rolls, while the 20" 2002 ride has a slightly brighter, crisper sound, making it great for crashing. Like I said, the difference isn't great, but the 505 is more washy while the 2002 is slightly brighter. Both work great for any style of music. You have made a great purchase!
I like all of the major cymbal makers, they all make good and bad stuff like I have a Zildjian 22" K med ride, I love it, but have never really found a sabian ride that I like better, they always have this frequency that I don't like, but I have found some paiste rides that I like a lot.
Helped his Drum Tech put his kit together back in the Blaze Bailey days when they came to a Detroit Club many years ago...very impressive and everyone was so Nice...
Everything is SO reflected and SO beautiful :P Good man.
Nicko really is the best!
This is a real good video.
I love his set up.
he made me play the drums years ago.
thanks nicko!!! :-) up the irons
He is a really nice guy. Some friends and myself met him and his son at PASIC 1998 in Orlando. He was just hanging out before going out on a tour. He is as nice in person as he is on this video: a real genuine guy!
I love this guy!! I wish i could afford some of his cymbals!!
Gee Nicko is a great guy, really down to earth with no pretense or ego at all.
Nicko is such a cool guy !
One of my favorite drummers of all time ! ! !
Im a guitarist/pianist/bassist/violinist..basically multi instrumentalist who has never really got into percussion, well i enjoy it and enjoy playing it
and that gong...it spoke to me
it was beautiful
I couldn't tell you. I have been around Paiste since 1985 and I love them. I think they usually get good reviews. They are just expensive, but you get what you pay for and they are the best!
Legend! thanks for posting! great video!
My second fav drummer to John Bonham, love this guy. Good drummer and good personality. Loves the symbols.
i love how he starts with "hello boys and girls" HE IS AMAZING
UP THE IRONS
He reminds me of every drum teacher I know rolled into one and that's a very good thing.
I actually had Nicko's 2002 setup duplicated back in 1985 ten 2002's I still have them and they're amazing cymbals.
i fucking love this bloke! he just makes me feel realy happy everytime i listen to him
Those Signature Heavy full crashes are just gorgeous sounding. And it being reflectored, makes them even more beautiful. I'm sure theyre quite expensive though.
That`s good! I have tried it and concidered buying it but thought it was too specialized for me? Kept to my 2002 but maybe in the future. Nicko is great inspiration!
around 93 for at the last leg of fear of the dark tour.. he was using Premier Signia, which is an amazing kit as well..
Name one Zildjian endorser who's told his company to put on an extra logo on the back of his cymbal so that the audience can really see what brand he uses.
indeed the signatures are really expensive id love to have that bell ride the sound that it gives of is perfect for a ride
I'm in love with that ride!!! I'm afraid it could sound too noisey, I mean it is the opposite of a dry ride, so I guess that is not easy to be played...did you hear the whistle that it makes in the background?
Great video. Premier's having some troubles. I hope they can resurrect. I love my Genistas!
Nicko has to be one of the coolest people ever. He's an incredible drummer, has a great personality, and he cant help but make you laugh. What a guy, WHAT A DRUMMER!
That powerslave ride bell... Holy mother of bells!
wow! hes such an awesome guy! and that ride sounds sweet
what a nice guy =]
Wish i could meet him because it wad him who inspired me to start drumming. Mum bought me the Rock in Rio DVD and i was blown away. Hes got amasing energy and everything he plays doesnt sound out of place and he really enjoys himself.
p.s. That Ride cymbal new is like £300 when i last checked =p
Where my cousin work, Nicko comes in all the time! It's awesome! She's gonna see if he'll sign something for me!
UP THE IRONS!!!
One thing i love about this guy is that he's one of the few drummers that have been in the buisiness for a long time, that doesn't wear.
A: A tight, light colored tanktop.
B: A backwards hat.
C: Bald hair (on purpose)
D: Or sunglasses when he plays.
I can almost taste those cymbals by the way he describes
them. I would love to have a set of those cymbals with
a set of Kumu drums.
Yes, he says that he owns one of the two existing gong from paiste, or maybe one of the only two existing gong from that serie...anyway guys did you take a look to the drums? The toms are wonderful, beautiful colour and pictures...Up Nicko!!!
I actually bought Nickos new sign he demonstrates here, today! Got a great deal on it!
good man..i got his drumsticks from the SEVENTH SON TOUR in 1987....
seventh son masterpiece album
"And up here we the 22...the avenuee..."hauhahua Nicko sure is hilarious, love that guy!XD
I love how Nicko has used his celebrity status for good. He uses his stature to teach and educate drummers of all ages about cymbals and drums, and the proper techniques on how to play the instrument. Reminds me of the Dom Fimularo of Sabian!
sweet! where can i get that t-shirt?
professor McBrain xD. He sounds friendly, nice guy... I'm a Zildjian guy but Paiste did an excellent job on making these cymbals, great sound and beautiful looks. I also like the new Black Alpha line from Paiste.
top bloke! great t-shirt. and i must have that ride. i will have it.
I love this man, he is an excellent drummer,
and a reason cos i started to play drums.
im gonna c iron maiden on 5th july at twickanham stadium, cant wait :)
this guy is awesome. he even goes to my friends church!
Nicko is just the coolest. A true Gentleman and a World class musician.
i think the previous sound creasion power ride, nicko made it bigger stick damage and put the reflector on
I just bought the Powerslave 22" ride and I would just like to know, is it alright for someone who plays Jazz, Latin, Metal, and Rock?
Dude, Nicko McBrain is the nicest person in the world of drumming, Besides the fact that he is a great drummer. Paiste cymbals are badass
i always wanted to try reflectors.
he seems like such a nice guy too =]
badass drummer ofcourse
amazing set! Nicko un grosso!
He uses remo. coated ambassador x on the toms batterside, ambassador ebony on the resonance side of the toms. Fiberskyn ambassador 3 on bassdrum batter side and coated emperor x on snare. Everything is Remo ofcourse! ;)
4:09 the way he shuts the gong... amazing guy.
Anyone know where I can find the t-shirt Nicko McBrain wears in this video?
@mufc99ok yes actually...the drummer for my band uses about as many cymbals as nicko, and he uses every one of them and they each actually have their own place in our songs
Im a Sabian guy now--but "SOMEWHERE IN TIME"--i would have loved his ride cymbal--Nicko's a great guy & Iron Maiden is awesome--i would've had "INFINITE DREAMS" using that ride
@Gunnershaun1380 it is from the paiste website in his artist page
gotta love his accent!
"i hope you've enjoyed the little tour of me kit.."
woot!
wow very nice wish i had a kit like that
Ah, I see how that can be misunderstood. Most brands, including paiste and zildjian has got a logo on the back, allright. Nicko had two logos (at 12 and 6 o clock) on his ride in the past, so that the audience could always see at least one, no matter if the ride cymbal rotated a little during the shows.
hey what does it mean when they call cymbals medium or thin or Brilliant??
This guy is hilarious! Seems like a really down to earth guy.
Paiste would do well to have this guy as their 'poster boy'.
@patton303 I'm a double bass drummer.
He had me at "Where Eagles Dare", years ago.
state of art cymbals.....
i remember the old dark china that nicko use it on piece of mind and powerslave(and after)-amazing
I love this guy!
He just loves making noise doesnt he... best bloke in the world really genuine
saw them on that tour in ny was fucking awesome and amazing
I wonder if some of the younger drummers in some of the newer bands have the knowledge and passion Nicko shows???
how does he play the china like that? 3:18 mine has to be flat in order to sound good he must have really good technique.
His smile at 6:02 reminds me of Paul Whitehouse from The Fast Show in Rowley Birkin sketch :D
id like to have a bash on that kit !
nice
That ride left my head spinning and my pants white.
what say about the 602 heavy built?
lol "Boys and Girls". Dude hes so freakin awsome. Long live Maiden!
what does it mean when he says, " reflected" ?
nicko is THE best! i love him!
Nicko is a perfect drummer!!!i have a premier drumset and paiste cymbals!!!i want to be like him!!!
una de mis influencias en la bateria y es un excelente baterista
Ohh i see. How does that affect the sound of the cymbal?
how does he see anything from behind that kit? :)
I dont know...but sudently I want to buy the powerslave bell ride...the sound is AWESOME...
@dreadss64 did he also say that he used to use a 24 inch crash. Beastly.
Nicko Mcbrain is the coolest drummer ever! :)
and he is a very nice person (:
Oh, the sound creation-model? man, I wanted one of those :p I got my hands on a 22" SC nd bell ride, but that took a year :p
"oh no, we've 'ad christmas, 'aven't we!"
i love nicko!
wow! nicko is so professional.
Hes an awesome rep for that company
I JUST GOT AN 505 MEDIUM RIDE
CAN YOU COMPARE IT TO A 2002?
PLS ANSWER
Strictly speaking, there is not a huge difference. When 505 series was introduced in the late 70s, they were marketed as more affordable cymbals for beginner and intermediate drummers, but they caught on well with professional drummers too. The PST8 series is kind of the modern equivalent of the 505 series. The 2002 series is, of course, a professional series. Like I said, the difference isn't great, but the 505 is more washy while the 2002 is slightly brighter. Both work great for any style of music. You have made a great purchase!
@tugaJP112 The gong alone probably can. I'm sure one of those goes for a few thousand.
@alessandrozerbone the other one is in the maiden warehouse.
awesome drummer
my biggest wish is to meet Nicko! :D
with the gong i was expecting him to put his face infront of the middle, wave and say hey nicko
a lovely person!!
Nicko Mcbrain must be a fantastic bloke to be hanging out with all day!
Awesome guy
gotta love that gong
I like all of the major cymbal makers, they all make good and bad stuff
like I have a Zildjian 22" K med ride, I love it, but have never really found a sabian ride that I like better, they always have this frequency that I don't like, but I have found some paiste rides that I like a lot.
Yea i miss the old 24" 2002 crash though it sounded soo deep
How many toms does he have?
What a legend! :D
