It featured a lineup of ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rare Earth, Leon Russell, Elvin Bishop, and Billy Preston. That was about 12 hours of my life I would not trade for anything! Things were different then and this was the way we did concerts. They were a lot more fun.

From wikipedia - Lead vocalist/founding member Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist and vocalist Steve Gaines, backing vocalist Cassie Gaines (Steve's older sister), assistant road manager Dean Kilpatrick, pilot Walter McCreary and co-pilot William Gray all died as a result of the crash while twenty others survived.[5] The tragedy abruptly halted Lynyrd Skynyrd's career until Van Zant's brother Johnny reformed the band ten years later.

Said it before and I'll say it some more! With Ed King as their 3rd guitarist Skynyrd was incredible. With Steve Gaines as their 3rd guitarist the band was about to blow off into the stratosphere. Even lead singer Ronnie Van Zant, one of the most prolific songwriters and frontmen in rock history, told the other band members once in speaking about Steve Gaines, "someday we'll all be standing in his shadow." If tragedy hadn't struck this band on October 20, 1977, and this version of Skynyrd with Ronnie Van Zant on vocals and Rossington, Collins, & Gaines on guitar had all lived, stayed together as a band, and had a shot at longevity, there's not a doubt in my mind Skynyrd would've become America's version of the Rolling Stones. Only better lyrically and a TON better musically!
I only got to see this lineup one time (Anaheim Stadium, 1977.) The show also featured Ted Nugent, Foreigner, and REO Speedwagon, each band being at the peak of it's career. (Many bands are at their peak right out of the gate and it flattens out from there, including every band that I mentioned here, except for the classic, Ronnie Vant Zant led, Lynyrd Skynyrd Band.) The crowd pretty much mirrored this one. Suntanned babes and 50,000 plus people getting throttled by Lynyrd Skynyrd. What a day on the green this had to have been!
This was Southern Rock at its peak. I absolutely remember when this fist came out. Mind blowing. Free Bird was it, no other song even existed. Great reaction. Thanks for the memory wave. Peace.

Imagine going to an all day and night rock concert in 1977 and these guys were the opening act! I was there, man. And it was incredible! Notice that the lead singer was wearing a Neil Young "Tonight's the Night" t shirt on. People think that Lynyrd Skynyrd were in a feud with Neil Young over his songs "Alabama" and "Southern Man" and that their song "Sweet Home Alabama" was a swipe at Neil Young. Young's songs were against Southern racism that still existed in the 1970s (and still does today). Lynyrd Skynyrd's response was that they were not racist (despite the Confederate flag displayed on stage) and that they loved Neil Young.

Should check out Lynyrd Skynyrd's lead singers brother Donnie, who is also a lead singer in another epic 70's Rock band called, 38 Special.... "Hold On Loosely", Caught Up In You", "Fantasy Girl" are a few of their many hits. i got emotional at the shots of the crowd. those days of festival seating concerts were fantastic. you basically spread out a blanket on the stadium field and watch band after band all day leading up to the headliner(s) to end the day. it was a very communal experience....and hot chicks everywhere as you saw! if i must be 60 years old this year at least i have those memories in my brain.
Possibly the most famous Guitar song ever. great piano too as you said. But Artimus Pyle on drums..... please listen again,,,, concentrating on drums. Legendary performance from Artimus Pyle
I LOVE the sound of pianos, violin, and cellos in rock songs.. I think rock bands miss out sometimes by not using them more, or at least sparingly. It just gives rock songs that special extra when used right.
Absolutely STELLAR live performance!!! Been awhile since I've watched that footage and I'd honestly forgotten what an amazing performance that was! That's exactly why I love reaction channels. It's as close as you can get to experiencing it for yourself for the first time again. These guys and Andy and Alex are some of the most sincere.
One of the greatest live bands ever. This performance in an open air stadium with early 70's equipment and it sounds better than in the studio. Incredible band. This is just a few months before the crash. the annoying crowd cuts is because the camera filming the stage at those times went to shit
If kids see this nowadays
....it will take them a minute to clue in that those rockin people having a blast make the most awesome grandparents!

i seen the new lynyrd skynyrd a few years back and even tho theyre not the original bamd they still blew my mind
Southern rock and roll rules!
BroActions Excellent Adventure.
I was 27 in southern California. Wild times. A lot of the 60s really happened in the 70s too...😎 skin showing everywhere and without the clutter of tattoos 🤔
"What the heck are we doing HERE, man"😂
We all feel ya. Haha!
When the sunbaked ppl come to life something is a brewing.....not just one or two guitars but three simultaneously 👏👏👏😁
Just absolute masters at work. It is one of the rare live amazing performances.
It was fun to hear this when I was 14 yrs old.❤😂
Now THAT was a concert!
If y’all would do a solid month of “Southern Rock”; you’ll never be the same after. Thanks for another great reaction.
Absolutely exhausting...but I was there....wow...yall made me feel 17 again...thank you.
I probably would give anything for a chance to go back in time for to be part of that happy crowd, that sunny 70s afternoon...
Three world class guitars in perfect synchronization
How cool is it to see two brothers from Georgia (between Europe & Asia) watching Lynyrd Skynard in 1977? The ultimate Southern Rock anthem. George & Patrick bring me joy.
Wow!!!! Back when true raw talent was alive for most artists late 60s & all 70s
just seeing your guys reaction, just makes me realize how lucky i was to see this band when i was growing up
💯 There's nothing like Southern Rock! 🔥
LYNYRD SKYNYRD was so tight! Their music can not/must not/will not die! We SERIOUSLY rocked out back then, bros, you know!?
For another amazing in concert video, check out Metallica "Enter Sandman" (Live-in Moscow!)! 🤘
Everybody needs their minds blown sometimes🎶
i got emotional at the shots of the crowd. those days of festival seating concerts were fantastic. you basically spread out a blanket on the stadium field and watch band after band all day leading up to the headliner(s) to end the day. it was a very communal experience....and hot chicks everywhere as you saw! if i must be 60 years old this year at least i have those memories in my brain.
When you went to these show you left exhausted & deaf for 2 days. Epic performance.
Possibly the most famous Guitar song ever. great piano too as you said. But Artimus Pyle on drums..... please listen again,,,, concentrating on drums. Legendary performance from Artimus Pyle
Thanks guys
Our pleasure!
Jamal aka Jamel too
Allen Collins composed that solo at 17 years old!!
I loved this band. What an irreplaceable loss. It's hard to believe that energy could be lost......
You can see more guitar in the concert in England. Even though I'd be far from home I wouldn't want to leave. There must be a hell uva band in Heaven.
Reaction was priceless
The 70's WERE just that awesome, we were wild and free and full of love.
One of the greatest live bands ever. This performance in an open air stadium with early 70's equipment and it sounds better than in the studio. Incredible band. This is just a few months before the crash. the annoying crowd cuts is because the camera filming the stage at those times went to shit
Saw them live 5 times. Charlotte NC.
