such a great video showing the what the 70's looked like as an audience. The hair, the clothes, the energy. It takes me right back to those days. I still feel the 70's were the best years to be a teenager growing up.
I am 64 years old and was 17 just out of high school when I was there at this concert. It was on July 23, 1977 at the Oakland Colliusm. Ronnie Van Zant, lead singer here with Lynyrd Skynyrd, 1948-1977. What a waste, dead at the age of 29. Those two guitarists were possessed in this performance. Sublime.

Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash in 1977. I think the main difference between then, and now besides the music was better then, it is the Internet/social media. We didn’t complain about stuff back then and life was hard, but it was fun. And rock ‘n’ roll was one of the greatest escapes ever. In today’s world, everyone’s too concerned about looks and status. Back then it was basically just about having a good time. They were told before their set it was off limits. Ronnie Van Zant had other ideas and you see him brining the guitarists down there. The Stone management got really pissed about and Lynyrd Skynyrd was told they would never play another show with the Stones. Didn’t matter because Skynryd exploded on the scene and became headliners not long after this. About 18 months later was the Skynrd plane crash. Besides Ronnie, Steve Gaines is the shorter haired guitarist and Cassie can be seen in the footage as the girl with the pigtails, a member of The Honkettes, the 3 women backup singers. ua-cam.com/video/vm7bkVxBXdA/v-deo.html
Krásná reakce, také následná diskuze o tom, co je důležité pro mladé dnes... 👍 Já upřímně nejsem člověk na takové masové akce, už předem si říkám "kam půjdu v tom davu na WC?"... 😆 Ale sledovat ten koncert a tu atmosféru v té době je prostě fascinující, jsem rád, že to dnes mohu přes PC shlédnout - naživo bych tehdy neměl šanci, nebylo mi ani 15 let a navíc za železnou oponou...🤪 Beautiful response, also the subsequent discussion about what is important for young people today... 👍 I'm honestly not one for such mass events, I'm already thinking beforehand "where will I go to the toilet in that crowd?"... 😆 But watching that concert and the atmosphere at that time is just fascinating, I'm glad I can watch it today via PC - live I wouldn't have had a chance back then, I wasn't even 15 years old and behind the Iron Curtain...🤪
Day On The Green #4, We Got So Ripped That Day !!! What A Concert It Was Great To Be There... And The OutlawsWere There Too...Green Grass And High Tides Forever...You 2 Are Great Thank You Both...
Not long after this concert they had a plane crash and we lost Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines and Steve’s sister. Such a massive loss to the music world
These young ladies and men in the audience are now grandparents. This was at the LA coliseum back in (1977) some 47 years ago. They were the opening act for Peter Frampton. What they did here was outperform Peter Frampton at his own concert. They were awesome! They were a Florida High School Band from Lee County where their Physical Education Coach was named Lynyrd Skinner. Some of the band members died in a plane crash. Great reaction by this lovely couple.
……the girls in the front row showed up early to this festival so they could be as close to Peter Frampton who was going on next ! ❤️ listen to the studio 🙏🏻 Love how you broke down this song to the feeling of the time…. Nailed it ! Technology ruined the simple things in life today as we knew it 😢
I just turned 80 and have greatly enjoyed your reactions to some of the early music of my generation. I have especially enjoyed your getting into the meanings and feelings of the music.

Both your reactions were great. I've watched this video of LS so many times and my head and expressions were exactly yours the whole time no matter how many times I hear this or watch it. Such a great song and Legendary performance.
I saw them perform this at an all day outdoor festival at Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1974. I still get goosebumps when I watch this video. I have requested my family find a way to play this at my wake as I become a "Free Bird". The 1970s was the best time to be young and free!
When I watch videos of concerts and see all those beautiful young people I always wonder what they look like today because in reality they are now old enough to be grandparents. I'm 67 so this is my people and yes we had the best music because it was only about the music. Peace!
It was wonderful and I am 69 years old in London but the reality is that most of my idols in Football(soccer) and Sport, Music, and Entertainment were a decade older than me,when I was 15 and they were 25 and making a nam for themselves so now they are 80 and.......
I got to enjoy the 70s in my teenage years. So I got to enjoy all the great music 🎶 and great bands, And still to this day I still listen to them .I have lots of CDs .And when I'm driving in my car I turn up the volume and jam to the music 🎶 🎵😊
It was so fun growing up in the 70s listening to amazing music all day after school, summers, weekends. The music was incredible and the concerts so amazing. Pink Floyd, Skynyrd, CSN, Stones, Who, Fleetwood Mac, Yes, just a blast at massive stadiums and arenas.
The 70's were a much simpler time. At this time in life I would be driving around the California mountains on weekends in my orange with black striped 1970 1/2 Camaro Z28 RS with Freebird blaring from my 6x9 Jensen speakers. Thanks for reacting to it.
It used to be about the music. Today it's about the show. I'm so old I got to see the 50s, 60s, and 70s in color. That amazes the hell out of my grandchildren.
WOOOOOHOOOOOO!!! You said it right, Dominica!!! This was SUCH A HUGE HIT and RIGHTFULLY SO!!! HUGS to YOU, BOTH!!! It was AWESOME being a child of the 60s / 70s!! Glad you enjoyed it!! ❤❤❤
Don’t second guess yourselves! You are right, the absolute BEST MUSIC was the 70’s and early 80’s !! I was there and we knew how much we loved the music but had no idea that it wouldn’t last forever 🥰💜
I got to see them around this time. It was an amazing concert. It was indoors, but when the instrumental started, the crowd jumped to their feet. R.i.p. the members of Lynyrd Skynyrd who are no longer with us. Your music lives on.
Entertainment was affordale. And real talented musicians. This was so enjoyable.People liked having a good time.Made life easier to deal with.Great band.Awesome reactions.
watching your big smiles gave me a real lift. I was 17 years old when this concert took place, but I didn't know about it at the time. It took years before I found out I loved southern rock music, and I would have loved to be in this audience as someone in my late 20s, as that would have been better than if I had seen it at 17.
Their 1976 performance at Knebworth is actually my favorite version of Free Bird. They played an hour and it was a fantastic hour. I recently bought the video on Amazon and it's amazing! The lead singer, Ronnie, the guitarist in the red pants and his sister, a backup singer all died in a plane crash a few months after this performance. The other band members suffered severe injuries as well. The drummer, Artemis Pyle is the only remaining member alive from this lineup. Ronnie's brother, Johnnie put together much like a tribute band with the same name later.
Dominica you put so very well on another reaction. The music back in the day had an "ESSENCE." That is the perfect word to capture what was happening with the music back then. I 68, cut my milk teeth to the Beatles and heard everything thereafter with wonder and amazement at the astonishing music from those edays.
GREAT Reaction and wise words. If you, continually, chase £££$$$ then once you achieve your goal, most people accept their new situation as their "norm" so it is no longer special. The really good thing about having money is that you don't have to worry and stress about money. I am 69 years old in London and delighted I lived in much simpler times with no mobile phones(which, of course, have their uses) but many younger people are obsessed with them and struggle to communicate with other people in this technological age. No phones in the crowd,in those days,as everyone just concentrated on the vibe and music.
22:40 New to your channel. I just love your wife. Sorry. lol. I saw your reaction. Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the most tragic stories in Rock and Roll. In a few months after this concert, the lead singer, a vocalist and one of the guitarists would be dead. The rest would be damaged for life. I also saw you cry for SORROW. There’s a reason you’re at a loss for words for Pink Floyd. David Gilmour doesn’t need a guitar. The music in his brain goes straight to the amplifier. Nothing slows it down. Not one wasted move. The only guitarist in the world that never breaks a sweat. He’s in a class by himself and THEY (collectively) will NEVER be equaled. Kids have no clue what they missed.
Real music played by real musicians. Sadly very hard to find today. There are artists and bands that can still perform wonderfully today but unfortunately they are not part of popular music.
The way you talked about "today's" music is so true. There are are three types, Artists, Performers and Entertainers. Today's shows seem to focus more on the performance/entertainment value. The true greats are the Artists that can just stand on stage and blow you away... You don't need to watch the show, You get pulled in and immersed in the song.
You are absolutely correct-the difference between now and then. I can tell you that one huge difference is the musicians-they played actual musical instruments and the singers actually sang live, without auto-tune. And then there is the audience-they actually watched the show, no cameras, no phones. Regarding life in the 70's, everyone still had ups and downs, good times, hard times. But music...we did live in one of the best times for music ever. As for this song, it's a masterpiece classic, one of the best rock tunes ever written.
Those times were awesome! High Scool '77 to '81! God, the ladies were so beautiful!!!!! Wow... I lived at the perfect time! Your reaction are awesome..and spot on...you would have loved the 70s...such a great time to be a teenager...me, my two brothers, and our friends and family had such a great time...small farm town in southwest Indiana, but we rocked and partied with the best of them!
I am 59 Years old. I graduated High School in 1982. I am so glad I grew up in a Golden Era of Music during the 60's 70's and 80's. Great Artists from many Genres were on the Radio, There was also the Oldies Station that played music from the 50's. The Artists would cross Genres and write Songs for each other and perform together. It was about the Music for the Artists. We would all party together. It was great at School dances and Parties and Roller Skating.
This is a prime example of when the band's energy and the crowd's energy feed off of each other and it grows to create the perfect storm!
Ahh , to be young again. I miss that sweet guitar driven Southern Rock. These boys knew what the folks wanted to hear. They paid their dues. It shows.

You are a lovely couple, and I love your reactions, ❤️ from the uk
You are from England! :)
Not long after this concert they had a plane crash and we lost Ronnie Van Zant and Steve Gaines and Steve’s sister. Such a massive loss to the music world
Yes. Just about 3 weeks after this concert.
@@grimreaper-qh2znthree and a half months.
I graduated from high school in 1977 and we loved these guys
No mobile phones being held high everyone just digging the wonderful music.
……the girls in the front row showed up early to this festival so they could be as close to Peter Frampton who was going on next ! ❤️ listen to the studio 🙏🏻
Love how you broke down this song to the feeling of the time…. Nailed it ! Technology ruined the simple things in life today as we knew it 😢
I just turned 80 and have greatly enjoyed your reactions to some of the early music of my generation. I have especially enjoyed your getting into the meanings and feelings of the music.
You 2 are great...I absolutely love your reactions..they are so sincere and ♥ heart felt..we may talk differently..but people here in the states do too..who gives a shit...were all the same...love ..love..love..yalls reactions..keep em coming please...62 year old former marine from south carolina...
Real feelings, real emotions, real music.
Really great reactions ! ✌️❤️🇨🇦
They are THE BEST!!
Both your reactions were great. I've watched this video of LS so many times and my head and expressions were exactly yours the whole time no matter how many times I hear this or watch it. Such a great song and Legendary performance.
I watched the video 100s of times and I still have the same feelings as I did October 20 1977! My favorite band forever ❤
Skynard, songs , thousands of times I've heard still sends chills❤😂🎉😢😅
Allman brothers band live ‘whipping post’, is something you would love.
You wasn't born in that time because we need people like you to keep this great music going.
Greatest live performance of any song by any band period!!!!
Great Southern Rock it really was the best of times!
RIP Ronnie Van Zant
Dominica you put so very well on another reaction. The music back in the day had an "ESSENCE." That is the perfect word to capture what was happening with the music back then. I 68, cut my milk teeth to the Beatles and heard everything thereafter with wonder and amazement at the astonishing music from those edays.
People were more connected back then. Bands and the crowd.
Another great reaction, I was lucky to them at Knebworth in 1976 I may be a little biased but I think that version is even better 🎶
This was the very best of times, best cars , best women and the best music for sure.
It's the best southern song ever. ❤it.
If this song doesn't make you get out of your seat and jump there's something wrong with you 😊
You are absolutely correct-the difference between now and then.
