Yes, that's exactly what the devs were aiming for. Remember the first dialogue with the Scarecrow: "And one day, when it finds itself beaten and broken, gasping for air, choking on its own blood and tears... That will be the day that it kneels. And I will consume it."
Sodden Knight, Kraekan Wyrm, and Bloodless Prince all have short runbacks too, all with no enemies, and they're all pretty easy (Wyrm is just straight bs, not hard. If it never started fire breath off screen, no one would die to him)
@@dragoslayer1327 You think? I've got over 200 hours on S&S and I've never once died to the flying attack. It's always the fire breathing or the tailwhip, bc the fire is hard to dodge and the tailwhip has difficult timing. I genuinely think, considering at what point in the game the wyrm is, it's one of the hardest bosses in the game. Witch of the lake is a no brainer of course, I've beaten her on NG+7 and you basically get 2 or 3shot by every single little projectile she fires. You have to play the fight perfectly and that got harder since they patched out long jump :D
@@DynoSkrimisher True, anytime you die in certain area the game will "add" your character as backround. In village or forest, you can even see your own character in backround if you play different character in the same session.
Never liked the blood spells myself. I just alternate between Fire Barrage and Lightning Barrage while using Sky Crystal and Clarity. Buffed damage, easily managed elemental imbalance, and infinite focus thanks to clarity, since when you hit something with a multi-hitting spell like the barrage ones, it refills focus faster than you can use it up.
I used a 2H for the first playthrough.. super easy.. stun locking all the bosses.. NG+ and the 2H showed its weakness.. NG+2 and im now going full magic and the game sudden got extremely easy again lol.
I just love the fact that the souls series inspired so many other great games like this. It looks like so much fun and it’s less than 1/3 the cost of a new AAA game. I’ll be picking this one up after I finish Ashen and hollow knight. Thank you for the video, it was well-made.
God I adore your lists. Please keep on with listing things. Surprised the Jester and Stankyball didn't get easiest, especially considering we both did strength heavy greatsword builds.
First time I fought witch I was playing with my sister and it took us like 20 times . Secound time I was a mage using fire barrage and I obliterated her on the 2nd try
Something interesting to know about the Coveted boss if you're having trouble is that when the ghosts move away from the axe and you're close enough to one of the edges of the battlefield, sometimes they will move just outside the boundaries of the battlefield. This can break their pathing, preventing them from attacking you with magic or going for the axe. Unless you get really close to them they won't path back into the battle.
The list overall depends on the class though. Having played an AGI-based Thief build and later tried a STR-based Paladin build, I can say that the game becomes significantly easier and a lot of bosses that I struggled with become easier than others. For example, I actually had more trouble with the Nameless God as my Thief character than the Witch of the lake, while with the Paladin build it got reversed.
the real trick for her is wearing the armor of the queen of smiles. it has super high arcane resistance and kept me from being one shot by any of her attacks
You deserve more subscribers all your video are great especially your boss ranking videos and despite what some people in these comments might say you make good jokes.
It's utterly fascinating how much your list differs from mine. Lawyer Friendly Nito for example, I'd put far higher up on the list while he was your bottom tier easiest. At low health he can go extremely spam happy with a triple teleporting stab, though in your footage he doesn't show him doing it. You placed Queen of Smiles far higher than I would have. The game hands you her elemental weakness literally on her door step, and while you seem to be anti "shield trap", blocking pretty much shuts down all of her physical attacks. It really plays up the strengths of the just how drastically different each player's experience can be. And yeah....the Bitch of the Lake is just awful. I would have mentioned how important it is to keep her away from the edges of the arena so she doesn't use that barrage from off camera, where you can't hide under her skirt. As for magic users vs the Witch. Fire. Kill it with fire. Or arcane. Everything is weak to Dark Reach. even things strong to Dark Reach are weak to Dark Reach.

So I just beat this game and I used a dexterity build and the early game was tough, because I couldn't do much damage though dodging was simple, but the flip kick of the single handed dagger does so much damage after you have the excavator. It got really easy towards the end. I've read that Dex builds aren't good on NG+. Most bosses didn't take more than two tries near the end of the game, around the Zigurrat. I'd say the boss I had the most trouble on was surprisingly the untouched inquisitor because he'd randomly have stupid amounts of range. The Kraekan wyrm just didn't want to die and I had to fight a war of attrition, eventually being able to beat him.
The nameless god sword pattern slashing pattern is extremely predictable, he stops attacking when you’re out of range, but when you get close before his full attack is considered “over” he resumes his combo in just the right range to hit you
This is an amzing game, where dodge is king and I myself completed the game 3 times in 2 weeks, because it's so amazing. currently I have 6 different characters, some of which are in NG++
You should give it a try. I thought it was pretty easy, and if you hit a wall, just grind and level up. I thought the actual game play was really fun, and the level design was top notch and the art style reminded me of really cool and stylized children's books like The Very Hungry Caterpillar or Where the Wild Things Are so the exploration was an absolute joy. The levels and game it's self aren't that long so it doesn't over stay it's welcome. It's cheap too.
I'm glad you made this video, I played this game because you said how good it was. The only placement I didn't agree with was the Nameless God, because you can stunlock his ass with a greatsword and he will do nothing about it.
I beat game today, I missed Mal and Forgotten King, no idea where they were. This list is really good, the only bosses I had trouble with were in top 5 and without question, the Bitch of the Lake is the hardest boss. Oh my Gawd, I never threw a controller, but boy oh boy did I want too in that fight. I also ran high strength build and would do massive damage, but she still took me over an hour and 15-20 tries. I would always get her down to a few hits and get one shotted by the move where she throws a shit load of magic with the staff or the one with the purple circle that she starts doing at half health, out of whole game, I would say she is only one that is very hard.
In my regular playthrough as a primary mage/secondary greatsword, The Witch of the Lake was a nightmare. She was the only boss who caused me to celebrate upon seeing "Vanquished" on the screen. I remember specifically saying, "Eat shit, you bitch!" Then in NG+, I'm sitting at Lv. 165, wearing the best arcane defense gear, and she essentially one shots me with most of her attacks. Love the rage and frustration after grinding for hours.
Oooooooooo I've waited for this. Never beat it myself, but these videos are interesting to me. Edit: I used a Magic Build and they are probably the biggest definition of damage since some spells are a concentrated beam of NUKE and are used for speedruns. Of course these spells are rather late in the game, but they are really just heavy damage but you have only so much to give.
The witch of the lake as a magic user is easier. Sure she can kill me in seconds with a million spells but not if I kill her with a million spells first
The best thing about this list is that you can totally tell he doesn't play with shields because if he did, the list would get scrambled. Probably the best thing about S+S is that different playstyles really do change the game. If you're all dodgy all the time, switch to a sword and boarder, and boom! New skill set, new game.
Raxoris If you’re doing a strength build and you’re using greatswords (my go-to being the Shrouded Bulwark), just use blessed pages and the Witch will die very quickly.
kinda crazy how the experience varies so much between builds, majority of bosses you struggled with I 4 shot and never got to see the mechanics properly, and then for some reason jester and fucking smile gave me the most trouble out of any boss
Pro tip if you do a mage build A ton of bosses can be attacked without causing them to engage you, except for the jester, for some reason he wont take damage until you enter his room
2:52 I have to respectfully disagree with your statement about shields. While I myself rarely use shields as well (due to the fact I am clumsy and still have no skill in parrying), with most of my characters using dex-oriented weapons for main hand, flintlock/wand for the other (and enemies like Split-swordmen, Knights, Arroxes or those giant armored brutes are put down by barrage of buckshots or spells) and light armor (so I prefer to dodge for defense as well), shields can be a real lifesavers for bosses with breath attack or spamming missiles. Fire-proof shield (like Phoenix Rondache) can make Kraekan Wyrm or Tree of Men much more managable and even lower that insane difficulty for Disemboweled Husk, lightning-proof shield can make Skourzh much easier and arcane/holy-proof shield works well both for Murdiella Mal and Nameless Gods "Screaming barrage" (althought it will probably wont help as much in case of W(B)itch of the Lake)
The difficult of the bosses really changes depending on your playstyle, I finished the game as a Heaby Armor Shielded Tank, some bosses ypu ranted as difficult are very easilly defeated with shields on while some ones that are better defeated avoiding were pretty hard for me (Husk was one of the easiest bosses for me, witch was hard but not much, Third Lamb and Dried King gave tons of trouble)
I've gotten as far as the Witch of the Lake. Considering I'm too lazy to put forth the effort into killing her (because I just keep dying) and I don't really know where else to go, I've given up and haven't played Salt and Sanctuary in months. Edit: After watching this, I went and I killed the Witch of the Lake, and then went on to kill the Unskinned and the Architect. I actually owe you for showing me how lmao. Took a few tries but I did it. Hope my subscription will be good payment for this rather helpful video (which I admittedly didn't think it was that helpful at first).
When I began this game I too thought that rolling was going to be the better option. Then I started blocking attacks with my shield and the game was SO much easier, you can choose either play style and be completely fine
I completely agree that the witch was the hardest and btw as i have killed it with a magic character I’ll mention how i used a shield and a wand not sure which shield but it had high arcane defense so her attacks took little to no stamina from me allowing me to whittle her down slowly. Still died 6 times many of which i was agonizingly close.
The Witch is a literal meeh against a proper magic-user. I don't quite remember the details, but I can recall me going into the arena and blasting the bitch away with some powerful lightning spell so quick I didn't even understand that the fight was over.
As hard as the witch of the lake is when starting out I think its actually a really consistent boss Which means that once you learn how to fight her she is not the hardest boss fight in the game anymore
I just beat this game a couple days ago. The only boss who gave me trouble was The Coveted. Most other bosses I killed first try or killed them on a second attempt.
Witch of the lake is hard, but I personally had more difficulty with Tree of Men and Nameless God. The third lamb can be difficult as well because of his health and the fact when he gets into his final stages the combos he tosses out leave you with little room to counter.
I'm currently stuck on witch of the lake and I have the ashen effgy which blocks all damage from her attacks but goddammit she drains my stamina so fast that it feels like I'm a starting character but nooooo I have willpower upto 40!!!! how how does she do that I hate her soooo mucccchhhh!!!!!
it really depends on your build :-) if you are melee, the husk will rip you open :D but I managed to break him easyli with dagger build since all you need is a lot of stamina and fast rolls so lightweight build is fine against him (my favourite boss still, I even made song about him and started a salt and sanctuary boss drawing series on my deviantart :D )
In NG+ I could not dodge Carsejaw's teleport downward thrust attack for the life of me. Add in the fact that he does it 3 times and he was such a nightmare in NG+ even though in NG I found him so easy.
13:04 "The Husk requires very considerate, methodical movement and timing." Me, a mage: So anyway I started blasting Also, 14:51, it actually can feel easier if you use magic, mainly since you can just pile on the fire damage if you have flame barrage at that point (which you most likely would).
The witch of the lake is literally who I came here to get tips on and he just said the stuff I already knew. I was hoping to find what she's weak too here, however I can check a wiki. The video was quite entertaining none the less, well done
As annoying as it is to have to take fall damage before The Nameless God, I love how it makes you look like you're bowing your head to him before the fight
My hardest boss is probably the kraekan wyrm simply because for my first playtrough i was going for a rouge build with dagger and shit and then when i got to him i was dealing no dmg deleted that save and started full strenght Carsejaw's ashes can turn into 3 diffrent weapons and i think all of them are for strenght so he is a must kill if you are running a strenght build My favorite boss is probably either the sodden knight or the false jester I love the knight his lore, looks and boss encounter but i prefer faster bosses so thats probably why i woud put the jester here but he has almost no lore so thats sad Also did you try running a reaper/scythe build they are suprisingly powerfull and my favorite build but be careful when going against the coveted or ronin cran they are both resistant to slash attacks which means better stack up that holly damage Oh and the disemboweled husk on NG+ can oneshot you with his blunder-shotgun yeah NG+ in this game is really hard
I think the Kraken Wyrm is one of the hardest bosses because he is the first DPS check in the game. If you don't have an upgraded weapon, or in your case a dagger, it is going to take FOREVER to beat him.
The backflip move of the dagger deals strike damage. My first playtrough was also as a thief, but i managed to beat the game relying in that move when facing armored enemies. Also, guns deals striking damage and is a good finisher in a dagger combo.
Smith outfit, Impen crest ring, and Phoenix rondache help a ton with that boss until you learn the pattern. Pheonix rondache has 100% fire block and is great if you have enough stamina to block a fire breath.
@King Ty Seriously the only reason why it is a pain, is the fact that you get oneshot by it and it can corner you with ease. Remove one of these things, and he becomes a joke.
It's not that hard once you know his pattern, which is VERY basic. It took me about 10 tries after seeing his pattern on youtube. It just sucks that you have to create a new character every time.
As a magic user, I wiped that witch outta her lake easy and made a sweet staff from her ashes. Seriously, flame barrage is the way plus a couple of clarity or some bottled sky. As it is with all of them :) (ofc the ring which strengthen the magic requires you to alternate with some lightning but no biggie)
The False Jester takes his name from pretending to be the real jester who is just behind his room (who gives you the ceiling walking brand).
you’re right his jokes way funnier now
And he is always upside down, and palace is upside down mayve jester is the real nameless god and nammeless god is just one more pretenter
With The Nameless God, I think the fall damage was triggered to simulate your character bowing to him/her
I never thought of it that way...interesting
Yes, that's exactly what the devs were aiming for. Remember the first dialogue with the Scarecrow: "And one day, when it finds itself beaten and broken, gasping for air, choking on its own blood and tears... That will be the day that it kneels. And I will consume it."

Sunburned albino i love your content, keep up the good work
When I began this game I too thought that rolling was going to be the better option. Then I started blocking attacks with my shield and the game was SO much easier, you can choose either play style and be completely fine
The witch was insanity. I had to change up my playstyle completely for her
Whoever created the title is a frekin legend
Why did I also think of the untouched inquisitor as "unmolested" on my first playthrough
Once again perfect boss rankings.
I actually had a lot more trouble with the Mad alchemist than the witch of the lake :D
Nice video!

He had no reason to throw a burn this hot.
As hard as the witch of the lake is when starting out
I think its actually a really consistent boss
Which means that once you learn how to fight her she is not the hardest boss fight in the game anymore
Kind of late to the game here, but if you're having issues with magic damage just throw up a tower shield. Helps so much.
Have you ever played Furi, Jotun, or Sundered these games would make great boss rankings videos
Portal 4ever ^^^^^^^^^^
Jotun was pretty cool
Id like to see a furi one
Jotun is awesome
I would love to see a furi boss ranking, I loved that game and would love to see how my opinions compare to his
I bought this game and beat it because of you and I loved it. Btw I feel like the husk is more of a bitch the hard but I can see why you put it there.
it really depends on your build :-) if you are melee, the husk will rip you open :D but I managed to break him easyli with dagger build since all you need is a lot of stamina and fast rolls so lightweight build is fine against him (my favourite boss still, I even made song about him and started a salt and sanctuary boss drawing series on my deviantart :D )
Dude this video is gold. I laughed my ass of. That linkin park joke at the end got super dark tho. But still great vid. Subbed.
8:20 HA fools I spammed searing light
In NG+ I could not dodge Carsejaw's teleport downward thrust attack for the life of me. Add in the fact that he does it 3 times and he was such a nightmare in NG+ even though in NG I found him so easy.
13:04 "The Husk requires very considerate, methodical movement and timing."
Me, a mage: So anyway I started blasting
Also, 14:51, it actually can feel easier if you use magic, mainly since you can just pile on the fire damage if you have flame barrage at that point (which you most likely would).
Classy Linkin Park/ Chester Bennington reference at the end. I dig your content. Keep it up!
That stench most foul is the funniest boss name in the game
Another tip for the kraeken wyrm, just keep to the left and hope it glitches and falls off the edge like it did for me at one point
The witch of the lake is literally who I came here to get tips on and he just said the stuff I already knew. I was hoping to find what she's weak too here, however I can check a wiki. The video was quite entertaining none the less, well done
You don't even need a heavy weapon to stagger Dried King quickly. One combo with a +4 tachi works too, it's unreasonably powerful
As annoying as it is to have to take fall damage before The Nameless God, I love how it makes you look like you're bowing your head to him before the fight
My hardest boss is probably the kraekan wyrm simply because for my first playtrough i was going for a rouge build with dagger and shit and then when i got to him i was dealing no dmg deleted that save and started full strenght
Carsejaw's ashes can turn into 3 diffrent weapons and i think all of them are for strenght so he is a must kill if you are running a strenght build
My favorite boss is probably either the sodden knight or the false jester
I love the knight his lore, looks and boss encounter but i prefer faster bosses so thats probably why i woud put the jester here but he has almost no lore so thats sad
Also did you try running a reaper/scythe build they are suprisingly powerfull and my favorite build but be careful when going against the coveted or ronin cran they are both resistant to slash attacks which means better stack up that holly damage
Oh and the disemboweled husk on NG+ can oneshot you with his blunder-shotgun yeah NG+ in this game is really hard
I whipped (literally) the witch of the lake using a whip with the fire charm. Was almost easy. Thank you Castlevania.
You missed "The Unspeakable Deep" Boss
Gaming with Yamerus He said he wasn’t going to put the tutorial boss on this list.
Trent Stines because it's obvious garbage lol
@King Ty
Seriously the only reason why it is a pain, is the fact that you get oneshot by it and it can corner you with ease. Remove one of these things, and he becomes a joke.
It's not that hard once you know his pattern, which is VERY basic. It took me about 10 tries after seeing his pattern on youtube. It just sucks that you have to create a new character every time.
The most annoying thing about that boss is trying to position yourself so you actually get the damn gold from it.
So apparently there's this glitch that will make the Wyvern jump off the other side of the stage committing suicide at about 50% health
Happens if the fight goes long, but it's also possible it jumps off and lives, and then you have no way to hit it and have to reset :/
Demetri davis Happened to me and caught me off guard.
14:50 Yup. Yup. Took me 125 attempts as a mage in NG+. I get PTSD just watching the fight now.
great vid as always man, I love S&S! maybe you could do a darkest dungeon boss ranking if you ever get around to that?
A playthrough would be wicked.
I started to play this game last week and needed only 10 hours for my first run but it was alot of fun and its a very good souls like game.
Linkin Park reference didn't age well. But it made me laugh even harder because of it. Love you, man.
With the bloodless prince I managed to dodge the body slam by jumping just in time
Sorcery only Witch of the Lake is just like other sorcery only boss fights. You wave your magic wand and delete her health bar.
Fun fact: The Architect and the Witch of the Lake are twin sisters.
I figured out why you had such a hard time with those higher tier bosses my dude not enough "HOLY DAMAGE!!!"
