    In response to your "classified data" remark,
    I just find it incredibly impressive that there is still classified material that ED will obviously not be able to get their hands on, yet they are still able to give us this awesome module. It would be really awesome to see/understand that process.

    These videos are really helpful, please keep them up!
    I'd also love to see some updated tactics tutorials on how to employ rockets and the hellfires. (Not sure if there are things to consider differently compared to the videos you made for the Hind a while back).

    Since DCS Blackshark first came out - rockets have always been my fav. Simply because they are so challenging. I used to challenge myself to get 2 rockets per kill. I got better and better with them and was able to do this on many occasions. Rockets are the best!

    I remember flight sims as a kid maybe 8-12 years old with jet fighter 3 and a10cuba the Star Wars flight sims of course. I never really played them again so their was a huge gap between my teens to mid 20s and in that time frame so 15 years computer technology has become so realistic and in depth that flying the fighters or helicopters was a dream until eagle dynamics really started shaping the market. Been on dcs for around 10 years and it still blows me away what they have accomplished.

I didn't realise a cold start required you to boresight on start up though D'OH!! Keeping your Rocket Steering Cursor on target is 1) doable irl 2) hard in VR 3) almost impossible with trackIR (given the various types and amounts of sensory input to the human that are available and the sensitivity of the head tracking). While head stabilization is an intuitive process for most animals/humans (see chicken head tracking video), keeping your target fixated with trackIR poses quite the challenge.
    What I do to counter this is using the plum line of the "head tracker" symbol for the directional reference while using the Rocket Steering Cursor for elevation only. Works like a charm.

    Great vid. Hey Cosmo, I’m curious, what’s the distance between the HDU glass and the eyeball 👁 in real Apache ?. I’m confused here, saw lots of vids but I wanna know the exact real distance and how the surrounding cockpit and window rails will look like.

  • @frogisis
    @frogisis 2 роки тому +1

    Ohhhhhh, for co-op mode it works because _now_ you keep your head _still..._ You turn _yourself_ into the fixed sighting reference frame for the symbology... OK, now it all makes sense.
    EDIT: Yep, went and tried it and that's why it was so confusing. I was like "but you could be looking _anywhere,_ why does it want you to line up _those_ two things still??? That doesn't make any sense!" Not realizing, of course, that it assumes you're not looking just anywhere like you were when shooting as the pilot. I simply kept my head still instead and was able to unleash a deadly accurate salvo without issue. Thanks!

    Glad to see I'm not the only one having problems with the non stop tail wagging. It's so frustrating. I have no idea why it's so sensitive. If you're looking at my hand you can't even tell it's moving, just millimeters of adjustment makes the thing swing like it's on a playground. I've tried messing with the settings to get it under control, but it needs more dampening. It's so sensitive it's ridiculous.

    Could you please help me try to understand this:
    I tend to believe I got the basic functions of the indicators and how they behave.
    For example, if you keep your LOS on a target that sits 20 degrees left from the centerline the I-beam will appear on the left side of the LOS-indicator. Now by yawing the helicopter also to the left the I-beam will start to slowly move right; always the opposite of your turning direction. You can say you intuitively steer [the LOS into the I-beam] until they line up.
    But wouldn't the other way round also work? Meaning, if the I-beam was more or less fixed to the centerline (compensating for windage and other factors of course) you would therefore maneuver [the I-beam into the LOS] until properly aligned.
    Similar to CCIP vs. CCRP in fighter planes but that's not exactly the same discussion, I know.
    So what exactly is the advantage of doing it like that? I can't be only because of "oh look, I-beam left => move left ; I-beam right => move right" like the arrows in dance dance revolution. I personally find the the other version quite intuitive as well.
    The only thing I can think of is visually smoothening out helicopter movements by "gearing" them down. So, a 20 degree real turning angle is stepped down to a let's say only 5 degree I-beam displacement on the HMD, keeping the I-beam closer to your LOS inside your near peripheral vision, thus not having it swipe around all over the place like you'd have in an I-beam=centerline implementation.
    But wouldn't that make targeting more inaccurate since you loose the fine resolution of your flight control inputs?

    It seems to me that the rockets not very effective in DCS because you fire to kill the vehicle rather than fire for effect in DCS. Getting a kill on an apc from 1500 meters seems almost impossible unless you shoot 2 dozen rockets at it.

    • @CasmoTV
      @CasmoTV  2 роки тому +3

      We’ll rockets aren’t really going to kill an armored vic in real life either. But yes in DCS they aren’t as good as they should be.

    • @Maverickf20
      @Maverickf20 2 роки тому

      @@CasmoTVThat’s mainly my point with firing for effect. In real life, I would assume that a apc crew who was being fired upon by an apache with a stream of rockets would be scared shitless and might even abandon their vehicle. This obviously isn’t modeled in DCS.

    Well, remind me not to bring rockets next time. lol. I'm also surprised apache was made for hover and defensive shoot. I feel like you'd be a sitting duck for manpads.

      @@CasmoTV But that affects only the vertical alignment, right? I am probably just still wishing for some "sort-of" CCIP. I mean, I have to manually "ground stabilize" the HMD LOS with my own neck while I try to align the helo horizontally ... not with the target, but the HMD LOS. It would be easier to just have to align the helo (i.e. a/c center line) with the target horizontally.
      But I admit, I still have to experiment a bit more with it before I start to complain. :)
