Marine ground guy here. This is so awesome to watch and I totally agree, this puts you right back into it as far as the comms and situation. Great stuff!

A lot of people don’t realize how difficult and clustered comms get when you have internal and external rattling on lol

Fantastic video...HOWEVER, most importantly to you guys who provided/provide support in real-world situations...I know it is cliche' but THANK YOU...UTTERLY amazing...I really admire you guys...Not to mention relied on you guys many times back in the day (before your time) ...Assuming you guys did training at Ft Rucker in AL??? I know they were hard up to get former pilots back in as instructors, etc a year or so ago with hefty bonuses to jump back in...The only reason I mentioned that is because in this video the terrain looks almost identical to the area/terrain there... I tried my best to figure out a way to have an opportunity to fly jets or rotor-wing solo or with one other person, a 2-man crew....but the only options provided to me on my "options" were "heavy's" due to what would not be considered an issue today...but in the 80s flying jets or any rotor-wing was not happening without perfect vision...I was shocked they also said I was too tall...although barely 6'2 maybe 6'3'...oh well, all worked out..just ended up jumping, falling, and fast-roping out of almost every type of aircraft...but definitely was something I wanted to do from time was a kid through college & at times thought about it during my time on the ground...I did earn my PPL ~30yrs ago (1993)
I know one of the reasons I wanted to fly was because ever since I can remember and every chance we had would go to the base to watch my Uncle who was a rotor-wing pilot like you guys... He was rated/certified in almost every type...I've seen him fly Hueys, Co-piloted Chinooks (not sure what his official status was during those); even fly "rear-seat" of what had to be an early variant AH-64 ...think was the 154-AH-64 ... I saw him strap into perhaps the ugliest aircraft in the history of the US military... the CH-54 skyhook (or sky crane..I'm old so memory may fail me)...He told me when I was leaning on him to pull some strings for me that nothing he could or would do...he emphasized he did not get to fly hardly at all anymore...I guess it's true, an inverse relationship between rank and flying...Rank goes up and flying time goes down...Anyway, Not sure if this is common or not but he transitioned out of the "regular" US Army after he did a 2-3 year stint at the Pentagon...He returned to his home state and commanded an Air Wing there with the Air National Guard... then was promoted again, serving as the Commanding General of both the Mississippi Army and Air National Guard units (over about 12K people) and served as Mississippi's Adjutant General for ~6-years...He also served as the Commander (not sure of rank at the time) of the East Command -82nd and 101st Airborne during conflicts including the 1st Gulf War...He is retired now...Had a handful of relatives who made careers out of the service...2 Colonels and a couple of others....never would have thought they were so well respected unless walked with them on base....left a massive impression on me...
Apologize for the personal sentimental trip down memory lane but this video brought a lot back to me...Appreciate that...Take Care

The comms were pretty amazing. I'm a GA pilot and was in the Navy, so I was able to follow along, but I couldn't begin to use proper comms like this if I were playing. Of course, I've never flown an AH-64 into combat, either, so that's to be expected. ;) As your gunner said, "I think you've done this before."

Just gotta do it a few times and then it makes sense. Just like any radio work. Takes reps. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Don’t worry- I sounded like a bafoon flying into LAX this past week. Radio work takes time.

SA is the key to operating in a theater like this. When told "..enemies on the southwest side of the intersection..." you have to know where you are, the direction you're headed and all in relation to the compass. That is a skill that can be developed but some people just have a natural sense of where they are in the world. Those are the most dangerous foe

if you have track-IR twitching on one side only , for me most often the issue was something getting inbetween theinfrared-LEDs and the camera (most often the arm that holds microphone from headset or a wire)

Flip the five switches on your radio panel up. They're squelch switches, and as each one gets turned on, the static should get lower and lower

regarding line charges you mentioned in GHPC interview, check
video on VHÚ channel, Ukázka bojové techniky (1958) Minute 9. That one definitely did get upgraded later on with UR-77 mine clearer. (I saw name UR-67, soviet system, but this one had to be earlier) I wrote in your last video that the technology is 1950s.

DCS has a rudimentary ground combat side. So someone was controlling the ground elements

    • @NuclearFalcon146

It is closer to a rudimentary RTS, though with some (but not all) vehicles being able to be controlled third person.

It's been hard enough staying current with the F5 and F18! 🤯 (It just so happened that one of ED's sales coincided with me feeling confident enough with the TF-51, and I foolishly bought a bunch of modules … (A10, F5, F16, F18, Huey, and a few maps) … been working on those ever since! 😳😂)

Casmo, did I see an A Troop 1/17th Cav flag in one of your photos? I was a UH-60 CE in A Troop at Simmons AAF from 85-87, back then we had 5 H-60, 5 H-58, and 5 AH-1's per Troop, and Aerorifle platoons with camo dirt bikes we took out for recon on the 60's. Had to go to the new 2/82nd AVN during restructure when the Cav went to 58 D's. The 2/82nd was at Pope until we moved into the "new" hangars at Simmons, and the 1/82nd was at Hood until I left during initial training of the entire Battalion on the H-64. I mean, the 1/82nd was literally PCS to Hood for a year or more. Good times.

Flying super low is to avoid MANPADS by puting things like trees, buildings etc between you and them. In an area where the MANPAD threat is minimal, its better to fly higher to stay out of range of small arms. At least thats how i understand it. From what irememebr British Apaches were not meant to ever fly below 1000ft in combat in Afghanistan due to there being no real manpad threat, but plenty of small arms fire
