I actually just had an idea, I used to love the old Strike games on Sega Genesis. Desert Strike, Jungle Strike, they were more like top down helicopter games where each map had different missions you had to complete. Completing the missions in any order would unlock your target for that map and when you killed them you went onto the next map. I think it might be cool to see you and him set up an Apache map like that in DCS.
What systems requirements you running on your gaming computer? I assume a high end computer will run me around $1500 plus. I'm thinking about getting into this and other flight sims
At least he seen it. I took one from below, right up the clacker. No idea what hit me I was suddenly a floating angel watching my wingmen scatter from my fallen debris.
In the beginning when you were having problems with those mobile SAMS that is exactly what the "bob-up" attack is for basically, you unmask, scan and store targets, re-mask and then switch to an LOAL (Lock on after launch) you can launch your missiles while masked-they should take a very high trajectory and then you can unmask when there is around 5 seconds to impact-those SAMS will be smoked before they even knew what hit them.
@@mecampbell30 It's really not that hard.. When you go down that slow even in real life it doesn't feel like "falling" only if you're pulling negative G's.
When the full system AH-64D comes out life will get easier for the Apache and not so much for the ground defences... or even better they release a Kiowa to do all the scouting and lasing for you...
Thanks for the video GS. It's interesting seeing the contrast between your tactical jet videos and the AH-64 videos. Your lack of proficiency in the AH-64 is very interesting.
I haven’t flown an Apache since the days of Jane’s Longbow, but regarding having to continually paint targets, I seem to remember a lock on after launch mode for the hellfires. It’s definitely a 20 year-old memory, but I remember that LOAL allowed hellfires to be shot off speculatively from behind terrain where they’d loft way up to increase their flight time, and you could then pop up afterwards and lase to give them terminal guidance. This massively reduced the window of exposure, at the cost of having to judge flight time and when to pop up. Am I making stuff up (quite possible) or if not, you might want to figure out how to do that in DCS, assuming it’s modelled.
Nope you're not making stuff up at all, my comment is exactly what you just explained in a little more detail, glad to see other fellow Janes Longbow players
Former Apache driver here. You are spot on. LOBL is suicide for the Apache against Air Defense missiles. They travel 2-3x faster than the Hellfire. Staying exposed for the 30ish second flight time never ends well for the good guys.. LOAL or the Delta models fire and forget radar is the only way to win. Surprised this sim doesn't allow for that reality
You are correct, except in LB2 it was almost impossible to acquire or re-acquire targets in LOAL mode if they weren't locked up prior to launch. I believe it was much easier to do in LB1/LB Gold.
I have a soft spot for these videos, played the Jane's Apache simulators in the '90s a lot and loved the complexity of doing these kind of missions. Its so much harder than swooping in with a plane, drop your payload and bolt out. Got to be sneaky all the time because everything can hit you, even soldiers with small arms... more of this, please! Perhaps you can pump it up to a campaign with multiple humans on both sides even. Could be like a small movie. 😄
BRUH, it is the 1st commercial since few years that is embedded in UA-cam video (hands on throttle and stick thingy) that I watched with interest and did not skip at all!!! well played indeed.
We learned that even in the best attack helicopter, taking out air defenses is a rather dicey proposition, even with a really good pilot at the controls. Fun to watch, action, humor and tragedy. Great work. Cheers.
also keep in mind the apache doesn't have the radar, and also.....have to consider I'm trying to make interesting content, I don't want to hover at max range and lob hellfires in, that makes for a pretty boring video.
@@GrowlingSidewinder If you're emitting with the FCR, then there are systems that can pick you up. The FCR is not the end all, be all. It'll be interesting to see the V6 Echo model though.
I've been on the fence getting a new high-end hotas setup. Been looking at Virpl, Wingwing, TM, and I think you've finally helped me decide on the Wingwing.

Yes, the DWAC group I am in does it all the time. We lase in the Apache and another in the A-10CII will search for the laser code and rifle on it or drop gbu's
Going coop on those rockets makes them much more accurate and gives them way better range if you lob them. I would attack that way rather than wait for a hellfire to track.
I love how you have this badass name, growling sidewinder and then your adversary is taco 🤣. But i love your videos I have always been obsessed with military aircraft I'm constantly reading about different airframes weapons and watching videos.. but your channel is as close to actual dogfights and air to ground combat as you can get.
Well done! Excellent mission in a remarkable aircraft. It seems clear to me that if you'd gone in with two Apaches at the same time, one could have drawn fire while the other took out the assets, probably with no losses.
In this scenario, would it not have been easier to have hovered behind some peaks? I understand this would consume way more fuel n stuff, especially in this hot environment, but maybe the mission would have been quicker? Also, I have no clue where your home field is, so yeah. Would love to know what your take on this is.

Yeah except the SA-15 is actually capable of shooting down the incoming missile. You need more than one Apache to take down that kind of SAM complex
