Great stuff. Note that the Target Point number and HAD Store indication error was fixed for the release version.
what time the apache will be released?
It’ll come when it comes. They haven’t told anyone else, probably ain’t gonna say it here.
Is it finally here? I CANT WAIT ANY LONGER IM HYPER HYPED.
@@Eisleguan it's here now
I think this has already been reported but better safe than sorry. In multicrew, the Hellfire do not aquire the laser on the right code. It s impossible to launch it LOBL and when using LOAL it doesnt aquire the laser. It is only related to multicrew as otherwise, using Goerge, as a pilot or CP/G the hellfire work perfectly both in sigle player and multiplayer.
It's fascinating watching these types of videos now and remembering doing these exact same types of attacks back in the 90s with Janes AH-64D simulation, the fact that you can literally sit behind cover with the FCR unmasked, gather and store targets, get back behind cover-fire off several missiles in LOAL only to bob-up and take out targets within seconds of each other is fascinating to me-and this was back in the 90s.
That's a rapid fire cadence of Casmo Apache tutorials. Seems like a soon as I finish one, there's already the next :D. Very cool.
He pre-recorded them days ago and is just getting to upload them today
thanks for having these ready to pump out so quicky casmo! i might even be able to front seat this by the time it goes live for the rest of us
I'm impressed with the human engineering that was put into this. Everything seems pared down to the info you need for the task at hand and without a bunch of extraneous data that 'might be useful'.
Besides that they (read m'urca) keep mixing up feet, meters, kilometers, knots, lbs into the same platform! xD Just get over it and go metric already!
"Those are missile counter-countermeasures and I dont think its implemented and I'm not gonna talk about them"
Nice 👍
Lol. I believe his exact words were- "And I really don't want to get into it." 😜🤫
Thank you for doing these tutorials Casmo.
Great to see all these "short" vids! Thanks Casmo
You’re welcome
really appreciating the effort put into these tutorials. can sense the military coming out of you and its funny that it helps when youre used to that type of instruction lol. im what americans would call a 19K but im moving on to become a loady in NH90s
Great stuff as always. Super helpful.
Thank you
Freaking awesome!
Thanks for popping into my stream and helping me and chat out, Legend.
You bet!
Hey Casmo, great stuff.
One technical question, when I use the LHGrip Laser Designate button, I seem to lase but I don't get the icons designating that I am lasing. Is that just a bug or do I need to do a more in depth setup for my laser designator before I use it?
Check weapons util page. I think it’s spawning with the laser off.
@@CasmoTV Alright, I've managed to get the laser working. However now it's not CHAIN TRACKING when I lase stuff. The lase code is correct. Missile is selected. But it is not giving me a big square at all.
mah boi puttin out *all* the content. I'm happy ED has opened this up to CC's
frame rate on the video is pretty bad
@@josephrosenbaum3343 Yeah, those are recorded on pre-release versions.
fuck yeah. havent played DCS for about a year. straight to casmos channel for apache tips 🙂
Banging these videoes out!
I have no intention of ever playing this game but I love watching these videos as they are super interesting
received shirt ! thanks its awesome ! may your bearing be true.
Awesome!
thanks Chief
Thanks a lot for your videos, even though they seem a bit too advanced for a beginner dummie like myself. ;)
I have two specific questions about the Hellfire usage. Are there buttons/keybinds to cycle through the stored target points that i can bind to my HOTAS or can one only chose them by clicking through the mpd? And is there a way to turn the laser on and off with a click instead of holding the button? I found keybinds for laser tracker mode automatic, manuel and off but that does nothing differently for me.
Thanks for these tutorials, Casmo!
When engaging multiple targets with rapid fire, would a HI trajectory on the 2nd and subsequent missiles help the Hellfire steer to the next target if it's farther away than in your example (not to mention giving me more time to switch targets)? And is there a way to rapidly slew the sensor(s) to stored targets (like for example in the A-10 with mark points?
In the old games, Apache, Jane's longbow, Gunship! etc the key feature in the laser guided hellfires was that you had that ripple capability. You selected high-trajectory Lock-On-After-Launch feature and ranged the target before launch. That ranging programmed the hellfires in those games to know at what range they are suppose to be pointing down in terminal phase.
In those games you basically went up to peek targets and designate the area / targets (as in reality you don't move so quickly if not ready to go) and get back to cover, just having enough space between you and the cover you are behind to, ripple fire hellfires with wanted period, like every 5 seconds or so. And then wait the count time for "laze" to go zero, when you were suppose to be ready to pop-up visible and designate target with laser. On moment the impact happens, you shift the sight on new target and laze. Boom, shift, laze, boom... repeat that by 2-4 times (10-20 seconds period). I don't know did those old games have a proper flight time or those, but that was the coolest thing you could learn to do.
And it was very easy as all you needed was to hit "Next/Previous target" button and system automatically jumped between targets.
Now how quickly you can actually in Apache switch the target source and slave to it is another thing (I haven't done that in GCP side yet with designations).
But AFAIK you need to use the other MFD to hit button to switch between targets, or maybe you need to use even the cursor to select the different target points. But I just think it is far faster to just use the sight slewing to get to them, and use stored targets as larger separated targets areas.
These videos are awesome. The only thing i would like to see different, is that when you are talking about “lasing the target”, tell us how you are doing that. what key bind are you using? Because i have no clue how to lase a target, or how to find that option in the controls section. Thank you!
This would be really helpful!
it is the RHG laser trigger 2nd detent in the cpg controls
@@NWGJulian thank you! I did finally figure it out after a while of trial and error. Quick question, might you have any idea why, when I lase a target, i do not get the “X” on the TADS, but the pilot can see it on his TADS? Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!
@@imcoldbore I had the same frustrating problem. Make sure your laser is ON. The defacto setting for the LRFD is OFF in the system. You must turn it on in each flight by going to left MPD, top button UTIL, make sure green dot beside laser is full to indicate that it's ON.
@@OisinClissmann you are amazing!!! Thank you!!!
Is there a latch function for the laser, Casmo?
Casmo is an Apache pilot................Casmo for president
alright after a few hours of testing 😬 i already have some questions.
sight tads. i found out that this is the only way i can move around the tads with the thumbforce controller, and if i do so, i see the tads picture in the hdu. but if go sight hmd, i cannot see anything in my hdu. is this supposed to be like that? what does sight hmd/tads mean at all? how do i get the normal cruise/transition/hover symbology back into my cpg hdu?
Had to go back and watch this again, the code section was great. Had a conflict on a mission where my missile were tracking the JTAC instead of georges own laser. Kan you "step" between the missiles and set all the channels in advance for expected channels/codes?
i know, wrong video, but quick question...if I want to trim the aircraft for forward flight and then de-trim, I press up and down respectively on the trim button, correct? i havent flown this yet; been troubleshooting poor vr performance since it came out and just need a few things squared away before I start flying
Great stuff! Enjoying your tutorials on the weapons systems. Any thoughts to putting up some 'Helicopters for Noobs' for those of us who are coming in from fixed-wing only aircraft? I am having a heck of a time trying to perform a stable low-speed flight, hovers and landings. It may be as simple is, I just do not understand which flight control surfaces do what and how to use them to counter the helicopters 'desire' to drop out of the sky lol
@@JSRJS thanks! I’ll check them out. I found a couple yesterday and I think my problem is a combination of joystick input curves and just not understanding the aerodynamics and counter dynamics of a helicopter
I have a lot of videos that talk about why helicopters fly. Those may help.
@@CasmoTV will definitely check it out! Thanks again!
Sorry if it's already been asked, but with newer pilots you can imagine multicrew hovering engagements are never that steady. Having to use the LMC to find targets has been mandatory but when i lase and fire with the LMC engaged as sort of a "point track" my missile lands roughly 20 meters away in no particular direction. is this intended, desync or a bug?
I feel so much smarter after watching your videos! Question: What would a "real world" scenario be that I would 'STORE' any targets as opposed to just engaging right away? And also: What about moving targets? Can those be 'locked' somehow so you don't need to live slew them?
Great tutorial.
Is the STORE button still bugged like you mentioned? when I press it (while lasing), I do not see T01 (or subsequent targets) on the COORD page. I see it on the TSD map, just not the COORD target/threat list.
Make sure you are in attack mode.
may i ask what does a BAL LIMIT means when i was guiding a hellfire from the TADS while the T72 tank is however almost in visual range? does that mean minimum range?
Hello guys, please tell me the size of the TADS screen, I'm making a 3d model for my cockpit. Thanks Casmo for the tutorial :)
Hi thank you for all you great videos ! Question : is it possible to display the hellfire time to impact in the Pilot hmd?
I don’t believe so… unless you are the one firing it… I’ve never tried.
i saw that release video! where is it now ? :D time wasnt right? :D
Hello, I am in the mission editor and i am trying to use a UAV as an AFAC...Am I able to lock on to his laser when the hellfire is in "remote" mode or is that just for known codes for a wingman?
Casmo, what buttons do you use to make the center screen screen active and used for aiming the hellfire missiles?
Sight select TADS
can you block moving targets like any other helicopter (like Ka50)
Hey thanks for the video, can you help me understand one thing? My ACQ does not change from the default one, I completely copied pasted everything you did here but my TADS and IHAADS and ACQ are not syncing up like yours. I cannot control or lase the hellfire but I Can just fire it without targer.
New playlist please 😉 thx casmo
Good vid
What is the button for Lasing? Also how do you get TADS to follow where you look?
LRFD button in settings is in Right Hand Grip-TEDAC-LRFD First and Second Detent. As for getting TADS to follow your head movements, your sight must be set to the pilot or CPG's helmet and slaved to it. (I think that's correct).
how do you move the TADS with its Manual TRK stick? If i move the Man TRK Stick the view doesn`t move. Is there a mode i have to be in?
Its actually hard to kill targets when my mate is flying and TADS moves it, is there any sort of Fire and forget, like its locking and guide itself to the target without having to center the camera?
What of controls are you using?
Not sure if this is a bug or not but I am running into two different situations with the hellfires. First situation, If I put the Tads crosshair on the target and then laze I am unable to shoot a HF, it is making me shoot a HF first and then laze afterwards. I made sure to have all my missile settings as you have in this video. The second situation I am running into is that while the missile is in flight and I have the laser on, I am unable to slew the TAD to keep the laser on target? Anyone have suggestions to fix these issues?
no matter what i do i cannot get the tads out of remote in multi crew. my question would be is there a way to force the tads out of remote mode. no matter what i do with the codes it will not come out of remote
Could you please explain what to do with the following notifications,YAW LIMIT, AZ LIMIT, EL LIMIT or BAL LIMIT THANKS
When not in a steady hover, or "sketchy" flight, it is hard to keep the tads stable enough to drop an accurate Target mark. Then, once target is dropped, it doesn't seem like you can make fine adjustments to that if it's out of place without renabling the "wobbly" site.
Is there a way I've missed to keep the target spot locked in place via tads or to make fine adjustments to the spot of T01?
Or is the answer a better Pilot? Lol.
Very cool. Question: Why delay between firing missiles when multiple targets are saved? Why not destroy 4 simultaneously if you can with rapid hellfire launches in quick succession?
You still have to guide the first one in. Not sure I understand what you’re asking.
@8:48 how did he turn down the brightness in an instant to get that clear see thru but still see targets?
So is the reason youd want to change your laser codes for example there are multiple apaches on a target all using the same codes the hellfires could then be finding and using different apaches codes by accident?
Correct
Can you also be in the gunner seat?, if so who pilots the heli?
How did you learn to play this? Is there a manual that comes with the game?
For two player mode, does the 2nd crew (in the back) have the same screens or is his view totally different?
The only needed to play this would be the free DCS World (2.7.11 or greater) and the $65 AH-64D module? Is there a manual that shows how to do everything step-by-step?
Well he's job is flying the actual helicopter irl so that helps.
You mentioned you could do x8 targets at the end of the video, could you do a demonstration for taking out x8 targets consecutively as mentioned?
Yeah I will at some point. It’s just timing.
I feel the fps was dropping as I watched the vid. Has it been some optimizations since? This is my major concern before buying.
So to make sure this is an attack that can only be done with a Human Pilot and CP/G? My friends dont play much and im usually by myself but love the Apache, Is this possible just being the pilot since DCS limits the ability to switch seats in multiplayer servers? Or will the George AI be able to do this stuff for you?
George is more than capable. Just never as good as a hooman
Whoa whoa whoa! Can we talk about canopy jettison?!?!
Is there a hover mode or altitude hold for the Apache? Having trouble getting into a hover
Not in EA but yea
Is there no way to step between target points when ripple firing hellfires? I.E. in the A 10 setting mark points on different targets firing mavs on those targets and using the steer point rocker to cycle to the next one quickly
Software like that came along later and it MIGHT get implemented in this one but I am not sure.
Does the TADS track moving targets like point mode on a TGP in the airplanes? Or do you have to manually track them yourself while ground unit is moving?
My understanding is... Yes, but not as effective as the litening and such that we're used to. There's image auto track/offset and IAT polarity which tells it what to track. That's as far as I can help as I'm still button mashing trying to learn this thing.
Correct. Also everyone has a very false impression of how good such systems are.
@@CasmoTV so how do you guys track? Manually or combination of both? I can see these systems def not as reliable in real life w so many other factors
Can someone please tell me how to lase like in 11:34 in the video? I know how to make it before but after the lasts updates I have tryed everything, seen a lot of videos, but cant figure out how to do it anymore. 😒
Is the laser on? Check weapons UTIL page
Out of curiosity is the CP/G a career position like a RIO in the tomcat or is it more like a wingman that would eventually move to a flight lead or in this case Pilot.
Not at all. Everyone is the same. We swap seats routinely.
So i assume with the HI and LO trajectories the missile will either take a direct path towards the target and the HI will take a loft trajectory?
Basically
@@CasmoTV what kind of ranges can you get with the loft mode in the sim if that's been tested? Curious to see what the difference is between that and direct/LO
How do you switch from FLIR to TV? Is it a switch on one of the handgrips?
Yes it’s on the left hand grip if I remember correctly.
What is the context for using LOAL? Is that so you can launch behind cover and then lase the target only in the last few seconds so you only reveal yourself for minimal time?
Yea or for someone else who is position to lase for you… like a Kiowa.
With Warthog controls this is of little help without starting out by mapping buttons/commands/functions.
So is the Apache released already or is it going to be later today?
Later today
I am having a persistent issue with the LRFD not firing when I press either detent. In cp/g seat LRFD is activated missile is armed, manual tracking is on in tads missile is was'd, missile & LRFD are on the same channel, in dir norm but when I try lasing a target nothing happens. Not sure if maybe I'm missing a step or something. I've watched this video probably 10 times and countless other vids on the topic and I'm just not getting anywhere with it. I've only be able to get the LFRD and missiles to work on 2 occasions
Go to the wpns, Util page. Make sure it’s turned on.
Yes the laser is turned on. I think it might just be bugged. I got it to work this morning fired all 16 missiles with no problem. Restarted the mission and ran through all the same steps and wouldn't work again. Thank you I appreciate you taking the time to help
did the "release" video just get removed ? Another surprise delay by ED ?
I was sure surprised…
@@CasmoTV it was a cool video though and your other ones will be very useful.
Thank you !
Does Apache pilot in the real world upgrade from the front seat to the rear seat as training and rank progresses?
No, pilots are trained in both seats simultaneously. For example Casmo mentioned in his first training flight he was in the back seat, and in the second he was in the front. I think even on deployment crews alternate positions to stay current on both seats.
From what I've heard, they're trained in both, but the most senior-ranking of the two is always the pilot
@@ChickentNug from my previous Air force days as an Junior USAF ICBM officer, we upgrade from deputy position to the commander position in the span of about 11 months based on weapon system knowledge, EWO, simulator evaluations and leadership abilities. The commander then is responsible of mentoring the new Lts coming to the unit from tech school. I'm not sure how the attack helicopter squadron does their thing. Interesting to know.
i did the same as in your video i got ihads b/s what to do?
So theh Laser Spot Tracker, missle tracks other laser paint. The Laser Range tracker is what ever I laser paint pretty much. I hope this didn't confuse anyone!
What does it mean to “was” missiles?
Why is the letter i missing from the code list?
What is the permanent drift of the TADS-view to the right? Your HOTAS or intentional?
It’s how the TADS works until you put on the LMC

I wonder is the weapon system and control copy from real prototype? Like when they create new module they consulting with army or it just simple representation of weaponary from open source?
Open source. Always.
It seems that you cant use the laser until you go to the weapons -> utility page and enable the laser (L6). Spent so much time today trying to figure out that. Do with that info as you wish. :)
It’s defaulting off? Hm

I’m kidding. Yeah it’s hard to explain it “simply” sometimes. I’ll do more in the future. Just gauging what the issues are.
I can’t tell if i’m doing something wrong or if i’m running into a bug, but when I change my LST to code bravo, and my LRF to code alpha my remote message does not go away, but my hellfire status does change from PR to AR, so i’m very lost.
