I haven’t watched full thing yet, but the “people stare or give weird looks”, sometimes I get that too. I’m a white middle aged dude. Not that out of ordinary, don’t do much to stand out.. and yeah, sometimes people give strange looks. Maybe I look familiar, and the familiar face they’re not into. Maybe I smelled funny. Maybe they’re just in a grumpy mood.. soo.. maybe one is too self-aware if they’re a POC and that happens. Not belittling the experience, cause that can and does happen for racial reasons, but not necessarily every time.

    • @jasminer.6721

Exacyly. Race is the last thing I think about when people stare at me. I think do I have something on my face? Do they think i seem familiar maybe? Maybe they just think im either pretty or weird looking tbh lol. Either way its not my business. Things being so race centered makes people project issues where there are none. Like I get it, it does happen but not every white person is racist just cause they stare. They could also just have no manners or just be a rude person in general. Which has nothing to do with race.

There was only 1 time when my classmate was called things. It was a weekend night and the other guy had been drinking. The guy's brother was also in my class. As I was growing up I knew a person who would call people names without any reason but didn't single out any one ethnicity doing it. But for one person saying that it happens frequently to them staggers believability. Perhaps she has been taught that an innocent comment is actually a slam against her, and that I would accept she experiences every day. But like Judy Tenudo frequently said, "What? It could happen." as she played her accordion and laugh.

It really depends on what she considers a racial slur and/or a racist comment/action. She did say it involved looks as well as words. She very well could be thinking the way someone looks at her is racist, that is her own perception and not necessarily reality however.
I think a lot of what people claim is racism is just their perception of a situation and not what in reality took place.

One of two things is happening with this girl.. if there was the high degree of racism present in this particular town, people would be publicizing it with social media..
So either she is being disingenuous, and greatly exaggerating the amount, or she falsely believes things are directed to her in a racist context, an is just viewing everything through a lens of victimhood.. I'm not implying that this young woman has never experienced actual racism.. I am however, saying that it's probable that she has been conditioned to see things, that might not necessarily exist, as she's identifying them

As a American who has done construction and bartended for 20 plus years in Ct, I’m obviously generalizing what I’m about to say, it’s like we live in 2 different worlds, all the crews I worked with its allways ben very diverse, In bars and restaurants especially, when you do a hard physical job in many ways it’s like playing on a sports team, which i did my whole childhood, we are in it together, I think the tougher the job, physically, it’s a bonding experience with your coworkers, the strong survive, band together, thiers politics in restaurants/ bars but for the most part the best people get the best and busiest shifts, so I see the people who talk about racism
The most are either college students, or work in offices, corporations, tech or social media, when your doing residential roofing in New England where the weather can be 95 and humid, and 20 degrees and we have to hustle are ass off bc it might snow, but Without fail no one wants to spend $ on a new roof but it’s leaking, and
I’m setting up staging, my coworkers who are black, Latino, etc are counting on me to do it correctly bc if I don’t it’s either serious injury or death, this is completely different than feelings at the office

Now, being called a racial slur by someone of the same race, that is just someone being insulting likely because of something you did, a random person of color doesn't again just go up to another person of color and use a racial slur on them for no reason. Of course non racial insults its true as well, a white or black person doesn't just go up to another person and call them a S O B or M F for no reason. Did you cut them off in traffic or cut in line? Get involved in social media and they don't agree with you? Not walking down the street but IN the street? Something had to have happened for them to have done that.
Climate change, now thats something else. First, the biggest polluters on national levels is not the US, we have laws against it. We can't control what other countries do, we don't have the right and that's just reality. Then there is the historical thing, we don't know enough about planetary cycles to know what the phases of our planet are, we haven't been tracking it long enough to be able to say things like "every 50 years this happens" because its not every 50 years on a planetary level, its every 2000 or 5000 years. We've only been tracking weather for about 150-200 years. We just don't know enough. On recent levels, I know here in Texas, in my own lifetime of which I am in my 50's, every 10 to 15 years we have really harsh winters, and every 10 to 15 years (not in the same years but in between) we have very mild winters, we have years we have had snow on Easter but very little the rest of the winter, when we do have a mild winter the bugs don't die off and we have a LOT of very big bugs throughout the rest of the year, a few years ago we had snow in border towns that hadn't seen snow in over 50 years, 150 years ago we had a rains/hurricane that caused floods that killed pretty much every man woman and child in the Waco area and in recent times we had the flooding in Houston a few years ago. These are the kind of cycles I'm referring to but would be on a much larger scale for a planetary level with longer lengths of time. People don't look at or know the history of events like this because we haven't been tracking it long enough to be able to say "There is life threatening floods every 200 years or so in Texas" because we don't KNOW what happened 600 or 800 or 1000 years ago. We know that in some point in our planetary history there was less snow in the Arctics, because we have old maps that show landmarks that are there when we dig up the snow. People are worried that the snow in the Arctics is melting, but is it an abnormality or is it the planet doing what the planet does bringing it back to a previous condition we have no knowledge of? We just don't know. And if you ask reputable scientists questions about that sort of thing, they will give theories but they basically don't know either, and can't/won't until we have studied it longer. Do we need to cut down on a global level the pollution in the world? Yes. Will that make a difference in some of these changes? Maybe, but certainly not all of it. It would certainly be healthier, but go tell those countries that allow it to happen to make the change before telling me who lives in a country that doesn't allow it in the first place that I need to change it.

I'm sorry, I call bs on her Selinsgrove statements. Selinsgrove is a college town and fairly racially diverse. I'm not saying there aren't racist people here.

I don't believe anything she says is true. Not one specific situation she's parroting back talking points that she hears. People glaring or staring making her feel uncomfortable that's the only part I believed. Which is not racism.

I could see her claims being true. There are still small communities that can have many racist people. With the current invasion across our Southern borders, there will be people going after anyone of Mexican decent.
It’s not right. It doesn’t matter how much melanin you have in your skin, you should only be judged on your character, how you treat others.

Whats crazy is that the left has done an excellent job at equating slavery and oppression with RACE, which has really only been a factor for the last few hundred years in human history. For the vast majority of human history Slaves were captured and were almost ALWAYS of the same race, but different nationality or tribe. Egyptians/hebrew, Comanche/Sioux, etc. The term slave comes from the word "Slav", as in Slavic, as in eastern European.
There are multiple countries where slavery is STILL LEGAL TODAY!!! The majority of which are in Africa....chew on that.

It's funny that with how clickbait-y your titles are the actual reactions are pretty mild and sensible, as well as the videos behind them for the most part. I know it's youtube's fault for the most part, but it still makes things a bit awkward.

I am puzzled with all this "racism". Racism is exclusively a thought, preference or belief. People are free to believe or think whatever they want...PERIOD. What matters is if any action is taken in furtherance of those beliefs or thoughts, otherwise, discrimination. There are laws against discrimination and if proven can and should be dealt with appropriately. Stop worrying about what you think someone else is thinking about you and look at how you are treated. You can NEVER stop thoughts. So stop obsessing over it. Grifters and hustlers will try to keep this going for their own wealth, power and influence and sacrifice a country or race of people for their own designs. Stop being a "sl@ve" to these people and ideas.

small towns generally tend to be less progressive than larger cities, so I can see racism happening more often there. Small towns are generally very clique oriented and if you are an outsider it's hard to fit in, especially when you start throwing racial politics in the mix.
