Never get an answer to the question, what is a “fair share” when it comes to taxes?
This is one of the big disconnects. Conservatives generally don't look to govt to solve problems. We just want to govt to get out of our way. Can anyone name a problem a govt policy has solved?
The Libertarian argument is that if you can look after your own house, you should aim to do so and try not to harm others. Whereas the opposing left-wing viewpoint is that you are a pig for being able to look after yourself, and that the world is better for the leftists if they can take your property. There are of course examples where govt policy can improve certain things in society, with notable side-effects that are bad. The classic example is providing welfare for single parents - the natural outcome being that if you financially incentivise single parenthood you provide an indirect encouragement for parents to separate. For sure, the leftist intentions are rooted in a good place, but can be destructive in its economic and moral output, where the output of single parent struggles can be literally mapped onto a huge myriad of social problems that can often make the problem radically worse. Why work hard to improve yourself, if you can be lazy on welfare and blame capitalism/the success of other people for your problems?
It gets messy when we talk about what to do with billionaires, cause there is a limit (IMO about £100m wealth) where I do not believe any further individual benefits can be seen. How you implement this policy....whew, I don't even know where to start on that thorny issue, unless we talk about a 2% wealth tax implemented on estates every 5 years.
It has solved the problem of how to destroy American Liberty and Freedom from within. I honestly want to vomit when I hear Republicans talking about solving problems. The Great Society sure eliminated poverty in America as promised.
We need a small, efficient government that works for its citizens. Taxes are fine, but adding more agents to get more tax money is going to do nothing when the government still wastes the tax money. A common sense approach to government and government programs is what is needed.

The main difference is that democrats tend to also be authoritarians, meaning they want the government to handle the issues. Republicans tend to be more libertarian, meaning they want the government to stay out of the issues and let communities / cities address them. The GOP doesn’t talk about policy as much because they don’t want more policy. The best policy to (most of) them is no policy.

Anyone who believes government can be used to actually solve a problem in society should also believe that the problem should eventually get solved. Why is it they always support the creation of a program or institution & then never ask why that program or institution still exists decades later & the problem has only gotten worse?

I'm proud of you for listening and thinking for yourself. I used to consider myself a moderate, but have been becoming more conservative as of late. The "college student" in this video was there to attack and not to listen. People don't know how to listen anymore. They hear all right, but that doesn't mean they are listening. General advice - it's important that we think for ourselves and keep an open mind.
We had roads, bridges, utilities (infrastructure), etc. before the income tax and had periods of great growth and prosperity. We've been duped into thinking that we NEED to confiscate people's money to get things done.

They had to repair all of the damage done by the liberal party and finally got us to a better place, then we elected another liberal and the country has gone to absolute sh*t since he took over. Consistently worsening year after year, nothing being done to fix the issues at hand. But hey we have gender neutral bathrooms and laws against misgendering. Yay!

States build their own roads and bridges. The Federal government only pays to maintain the INTERSTATES, ever other road, street, bridge, sewer is maintained by States and their Counties.
He supports governmental programs that really serve & help the people grow and serve Americans!

They conflate local government with national government. Local government builds your libraries and fixes your roads. National government is supposed to make sure the states work together and that policies relating to other countries help our country. When they talk about free trade and global economy, that's actually GIVING to and supporting other countries, helping other countries, not our country. Helping other countries isn't a bad thing, but China is HUGE do they need our help? Small countries that kill homosexuals, do they need our help? Small countries that has slavery do they need our help? But policies on a global level help all of them and we have to protect our own interests before we help those who need it.
The funny thing is in ny the ballot says dems are for the working class. Yeah right! That's me, and I sure as hell don't feel supported by any left side or right side. But Trump was different and the people on the right can actually have a conversation. It's like left forgets politicians lie ALOT!

One issue when they consider state wealth, there are often extremes that drag up the average. For example, NY has many billion dollar companies as well as many stock companies, where their profits are massive. Furthermore, raw income is not a good overall metric for the success of a state. For example, a 70K salary in NYC basically means you will be in a 1 bedroom apartment run by a slumlord in a really bad neighborhood, or sharing a 2 bedroom apartment in a nicer area with 2-3 other strangers splitting the rent. But in many red states, that same salary will often mean you having 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house, and more disposable income because the cost of living and the tax burden is far lower.
In many red states, when they get a republican trifecta with sufficient margins to not have to worry about RINOs, often there will be large tax cuts, as well as provisions introduced that make unilateral tax increases extremely difficult to do, and in some cases, there would be a ballot initiative push to have the state constitution require voters to approve tax increases. Democrat trifecta states, almost immediately get bills passed that allow for unilateral tax increases, along with making bidding processes optional on all projects.
There are substantial quality of life differences. For example, a state with a lower minimum wage and fewer billion dollar corporations incorporated the state, would would be seen as lower income, but what gets ignored is the cost of living in the 2 states. Making 20% more in another state doesn't mean much if the rent is 3 times more expensive, along with food being twice as expensive, and utilities being twice as expensive as well.

There is nothing wrong with heathy discussion on opposing views. The problem exists when it’s not fact based but rooted in “feelings and perceptions”. Core values of this country are constantly attacked instead of supported. I don’t get the put America last mentality. Thank you for bringing a younger perspective that provides hope that we haven’t failed the education of our youth.
You think it's a problem to root things in feelings and perceptions then talk about your perceived feeling of core values being attacked.
It would be preferable to hire US graduates first (and we do quite a bit) however, we need to fix what is being thought in the schools (at any level education) and be at a compatible level with other country's graduates in the field. Foreign graduates don't care about woke ideology, they just want to work. And they work harder to prove themselves.

If companies can get the technical employees they need regardless of where they come from they will do it based on wages. So if foreign people can replace US people in companies to save money they will as long as government allows it.
