Our Campervan Conversion is Struggling (Devon and Cornwall UK Travel Vlog 2022)

  • Our campervan conversion is too big for Devon & Cornwall, we are going to have to reconsider this as we do another week of UK van life
This week we change our van life uk tour and head to the south west of England to tour South Devon Beaches, including Seaton, Sidmouth and then onto Torquay and Paignton in removals van conversion
This video might help with people planning on going for a self built campervan, with height & width issues when doing UK travel
Thanks to Bobil Vans for their continued help with the water issues in the van bobilvans.co.uk - who also supplied our brilliant boiler system in the van
The Mushroom Stroganoff is so simple to make. We fry three punnets of mushrooms and then set to one side. Then fry onions in the same pan. Once the onions are cooked, bring the shrooms back to the pan adding a tablespoon of garlic, and a teaspoon each of cayenne pepper and smoked paprika.
Cook the above for a minute and add 175ml of white wine and cook for 5 minutes until the alcohol is cooked off. Then add 175ml of veg stock, shredded rainbow chard and 200ml of dairy-free creme fraiche (retaining one tablespoon for stirring in at the end).
After 10mins of reduction stir through gently a dollop of creme francie and serve with fresh chopped parsley and a good squeeze of half a fresh lemon

The new hatch on the roof of the campervan is a SkyMaxx, bit of a game changer for us, and comes in two sizes, compatible with roof thicknesses 23-60mm. Here is a link with locations to find one yourself leisurevehicle... We got this as a PR sample, and are really impressed so far
The lighting on top of the van is supplied by AuxBeam and we love them, including that light-bar that is all operated by a switch panel and bluetooth. Here is a link auxbeam.com/

Living in Cumbria with roads which can be struggle even in a car, with tractors etc - especially during tourist season - I don’t venture into the Lakes unless its off season… Far too busy and utter nightmare on the ‘popular’ routes. Utmost respect to you for even attempting Cornwall in Morgan 👍 Safe travels 🚛

Currently lying in bed in my van in Cornwall watching you travel through Devon. I moved down here in 2003 and never went back! There’s some fab places to see, but you’re right… down some really narrow roads and I’ve been thinking about you guys and Morgan a lot as I’ve been travelling around at the weekends and on our mini breaks in our VW slimline van! Which is great for mini breaks but I wouldn’t want to live in it.
Keep being adventurous. Keep inspiring others to seek adventure, freedom and fun. Keep enjoying life and each other. And thank you for sharing your life’s and experiences with us. Stay safe x

When you get to Cornwall, try to go to Porthcurno and the Minnak theatre, an outdoor Greek-style amphitheater built by a lady! They have plays there. It has the most incredible backdrop. The sea is the most incredible blue and the sand is white and fine. It’s like being in the Bahamas.

We live in Cornwall and suggest your best bet would be to stay to A and B roads wherever possible. There are gorgeous lanes everywhere to explore but some you would have trouble getting even a small car down. It might help to check out bus routes for coastal towns as they give a good indication of where you can reach, for example if a bus can go there so can your van. Big tip for you don't rely on satnavs in Cornwall, local papers often have reports of those who did. Once again this was a charming video to watch and We look forward to catching many more! Enjoy Cornwall :)

Thanks for a great vlog, which brought back so many happy memories of when I lived in East Devon, just inland from Seaton from 1969-97. Yes, the lanes are very narrow especially around Branscombe. Cornwall is even narrower around the coastal towns/villages. So beware & I hope the weather improves. Now live in Mid-Wales, so will be watching your next vlogs with interest.

Nice one! I remember those very narrow, hedge lined, single track lanes that criss cross Devon and Cornwall.
No turning points, no wider passing areas, a real struggle in a small family car, nevermind a huge camper van.

Ahhhh! We live in Cornwall and we're building our own BIG home on wheels right now, an old Bedford Firetruck. You'd be amazed at some of the massive lorries we see squeezing their way down the narrow lanes down here, but if you can survive Cornwall in a big vehicle, you can survive anywhere! Watching your journey with huge interest, as this is what we want to do when we've finished the build. Happy travels to you.

While driving down those tiny, winding Cornish roads, we make a mental note where each farmers gate leads into a field, then when we meet oncoming vehicles it helps us decide if we should be the ones reversing into the gate entrances. They are really handy passing places.

Great video as usual. It's lovely to see places I'm so familiar with this week. We have family in Devon and Cornwall so spend a lot of time there. Totally sympathised with the van width issue as we often take our mini bus around those lanes. It's when the sat nav takes you down a lane with grass growing in the middle of the road you know you're in real trouble. Luckily all the locals are expert reversers as they have to do it so often.

The bus goes up there so your van will be fine. As you parked near the steamer quay you could have gone on the boat to Dartmouth too. You can get back to Paignton on a steam train & then get back to Totnes by bus.

Hi guys we’re going to Devon tomorrow picking up a new caravan near Glastonbury. We have booked a week in Seaton. Can’t wait. Love Devon and Dorset. We’re avoiding the kids holidays also. Have fun. Peace 🧚🏻‍♀️

Like the recipe Liam . We stayed in Exmouth on the front , just be warned you could be woken up at silly o'clock by Exter Chiefs or Exeter Uni rugby training on the beach , their coach/s sure can shout :-) :-)

Guys I've only just started watching this video but be careful because my big rig had the electrics right next to the water and I had to have it rejigged couple times. I should have mentioned that before. But yes because you're moving things do jiggle about a bit and you end up probably doing some new repairs but you know your van so well. Habitation areas on these things need careful love ❤️

Janine I thought your hair looked lovely and wavy after the hairdryer! Me and my boyfriend recently went to Devon and we went down a lane like that, we were in a small car and it was even scary to go down in Haha! Exmouth beach was so beautiful! we got a vegan milkshake there it was so good! Love it that you now have 2 videos a week!😊😊 if you go to Exeter theres a lovely vegan cafe called sacred grounds their vegan egg is incredible!

Also give fowey a swerve as van too big. Charlestown is amazing. So is mevagissey and has a good car park on left as you drive in. No height restrictions. Don't drive further, walk to harbour. You'll love it.
St just is lovely. Falmouth a nice town by sea too.

Hi you two. Pop to Looe. Easy roads and an amazing beach and river.
Park on the West Side of looe on hannafore Road. Right along the end, bags of space to park for free over looki g the sea and Looe island. And then a nice wander back to Looe. This is my heaven

Hi both, been following for a while but this is my first comment! Nice to see you in Devon. Further up from Maidencombe you have Labrador Bay which is a nice spot to stop for a picnic with great views. Then further up you have Shaldon which has parking by The Ness, not sure if overnight but plenty of spaces during the day. From there you have smugglers tunnel which takes you down to a nice beach. If old smuggler beaches take your fancy, you have smuggler cove up in Holcombe (my favourite spot and not too busy). I wouldn’t recommend taking the van down the lane though as it’s steep and tight. If you can find parking somewhere, it would be a nice walk down, also has a little cafe. Get there on a day when the steam trains run, this will go right past (footpath adjacent to the line). Best parking would be Teignmouth and follow the coast. Look forward to your next adventure:-)

single track roads...arggh...so stressful. We've had similar experiences in Devon and Suffolk, and it was bad enough in a car! we looked for a setting on various sat navs to avoid single track roads, but no joy. Another great video guys

Wonderful vid! You’re the best ad for the South West ever. Brighten our Sunday. Amazing photography and editing make it all so involving. I imagine Janine does most of it. Lovely stuff I wait the next one. Condolences to Liam though.

As Usual another great quality video.
There are some nice, quirky old places in Devon & Cornwall. The only problem getting to them is the narrow, restricted access as you have found out. I would imagine there are some route planning apps available, but how accurate they are, is another matter...🙂👍🏻👍🏻
