  • Our FIRST KERALA TRAVEL VLOG! In this episode, foreigners travel to India and spend a week at a strict ashram in Kerala
We had some bad news with our rickshaw "Pete" and then checked into Sivananda Ashram in Neyyar Dam for a week of intense yoga.
If you are enjoying the videos, please subscribe here to be notified when we upload our next one / thosehappydays
If you are considering going to the ashram yourself, here are the details for it, including all prices and courses. The main course we went on was called the Yoga Vacation, which runs from 1st and 16th of every month at Sivananda Ashram. But they also do yoga teacher training courses and ayurveda courses. We couldnt recommend enough, but its tough! sivananda.org.in/neyyardam/yo...
Our overall plan in India is to travel via rickshaw/tuk tuk from the South to North (if it's possible?) The next leg of our journey is to travel all the way through Kerala, and then a bit more of Tamil Nadu
WE POST VIDEOS EVERY WEDNESDAY OR THURSDAY 8PM AND SUNDAY 9AM (British Time
We have only just arrived in India, after a crazy time back home doing van life and living full time in our camper van conversion for two years in the UK. But after some serious engine problems that cost us a fortune, we came to India on a mission to honour Liam's Grandad's legacy who sadly died earlier this year. With the inheritance money Liam got from that, we bought the tuk tuk and named it after Liam's Grandad.
    OUR JACKERY POWERBANK
We are in fact travelling with a Jackery Explorer 1000 and we LOVE IT! Does what we need. But Jackery have just brought out the NEW Jackery Solar Generator 1500 Pro - which is more powerful and it's quicker charging too. Here are the links to check it out:

Really enjoying the series. So colourful. India is on my bucket list but I’m not brave enough to do it like you have! Tell me.. how have you gone on with Delhi Belly? Did you go with a lifetime’s supply of Imodium, loo paper & baby wipes? Where are you finding toilets en route? That would really worry me. I became very ill in Egypt on a Nile Cruise. I’d spent a week surviving on cheese triangles and bread but made the fatal mistake of eating some salad, obviously washed in unclean water. I had to travel home with medical support. It took months to get better, the docs were unable to identify the germ as there are so many unidentified, and there’s larvae in water too. Just had to wait for my body to deal with it, which it did eventually but it was scary.
I’m sure many of us are wondering about loos.. please cover it!

Here is my suggestion to you regarding your rickshaw. If you are planning for several months trip in India it is better to buy a second-hand car, my first choice would be a Toyota Etios Diesel and second would be Toyota Etios Petrol or cars like Honda WR-V or Honda Jazz, if you buy the diesel one try to buy which is less old than 10 years because diesel cars which are older than 10 years are not allowed in Delhi NCR region so if you are planning your trip through some locations in the Delhi NCR region than you have to pay some fines if you get caught by the authorities if your car is older than 10 years and for petrol cars, the limit is 15 years. The cars I have mentioned are no-nonsense cars that can be repaired easily all around India and they rarely break down in the first place and when your trip ends you can sell them for some depreciation and get your money back as well maintained cars of these model are in demand and sell off easily. My suggestion for you if you decide to buy these cars is to buy through the official manufacturer's pre-owned car selling channels like Toyota Trust for Toyota and for Honda it is Honda Auto Terrace(I guess) you can look at their respective websites. My preference was Toyota Etios Diesel because it is a very frugal and tension-free car, has lots of boot space, is pretty comfortable for long journeys, used to have a 4-star rating in the Euro NCAP crash test, and goes easily 22 to 27 kilometers in 1 liter of diesel on highways 15 to 19 in cities and has a great resale value but for getting a well-maintained model buy through Totyota official pre-owned channel but still do your own inspection before finalizing the deal though usually, you will get a clean car from Toyota but on a bad day they can also sell a faulty car(obviously by mistake). One thing you can also do is discuss with them the price also at which you can sell back the car to them. Have a happy and safe journey guys. Namaskar. 🙏

I am an Indian from Kerala and this comment made my day! I guess we Indians restore faith in humanity as we are the only surviving ancient civilization..the Indus/Sindhu/ Hindu civilization and basically, all ancient civilizations were much more rooted to man's basic nature when compared to organised religions and the modern religion of materialism( most often called Atheism) . Our civilization believes in Vedanta/ non dualism ..that is , everything is a singular consciousness! "Tattvamasi" ( do Google this word for some real deep spirituality/ philosophy)!

Some people were EXCEPTIONALLY nice and kind with no motives at all. They had such pure hearts. That was so apparent on my long distance bus rides and train rides. When a guy named 'Shiva' shows up to help you... know that you are in good hands. This is the best thing about India where you have the freedom to leave but if you just stick around, you will feel better yourselves and there's no compulsion for it. Am happy that you both enjoyed this... there are harder versions of it where you have to lock yourself in for 15 days and many people do it. It's life changing experience

She said every God is God , nothing to be surprised there. She also said every messenger of God to be heard for our good, nothing to challenge there as messengers must be listened to. This was my first experience towards acceptance without any conflict. As sadguru says, there nothing like your God vs my God. In india gods are in plenty, and we don't shy away understanding more gods. More the wisdom the merrier.

All those incidences occurred during my slow travel times. I had no choice but to slow travel as alot of the times were covid times. It taught me that some communities in India are vile. Of course not all communities. I left hell holes and entered into heavenly spaces. India is a mixed bag. My best times were on fast travel tracks re 40 hour train rides and 15 hour bus rides. Your height Liam in that vehicle as with everything on your journey’s you handle it above excellance. You are decorating Pete up. Brave to follow a taxi driver in any country! Then the mechanic to test drive! You deserve a badge of courage. The humanitarian message you are sharing from what some view as a difficult way of life in India, is what is needed. I am an American and traveled all of my life since birth with my Dad in the US Army, joining the military myself for 20 years and still traveling. I see that the abundance what Americans or most have is taken so lightly. There is not a frame of mind to be as generous as we are seeing here. Now if you were to visit where I was born and family there, Hawai’i, you will experience the aloha spirit.
Exactly, surrender yourself to this experience. I have gone on silent retreats as a Catholic and the spiritual nourshing is so needed. Thank you for sharing. I can imagine with Jenade, she is a very socialble individual. The strictness is challenging and the rock hard beds would also be a tough one for me.

Another fantastic, informative and very enjoyable video. We really are enjoying following your Indian trip. This episode about the Ashram was just brilliant. I’ve heard before that a stay in an ashram shouldn’t be taken lightly! Your video really illustrated this perfectly - however it was particularly good to learn of the difficulties at the start, yet also see how you pushed on through and stuck with it. We’re really looking forward to your next episode, and to hear of your benefits after a full week of yoga and meditation and lectures. This from a woman who does Pilates twice a week…and thinks that’s an achievement. 😅xx
