    Thanks for the video. The update works well and the backlash due to the horrible plastic bushing is now permanently fixed.
    Just one IMPORTANT note about the reassembly of the freewheel after the replacement of the bushing with the bearing: the original seal placed in the rear part must be disassembled. In the video this step is missing!

    • @nadz336
      @nadz336 2 роки тому

      Man i think this rear seal is the main culprit to the axle nut not tightening properly.. will try and remove the rear seal and see if the rear axle nut tightens properly…

  • @solocyclist3993
    @solocyclist3993 5 років тому +5

    I ask my bike shop about this and they told me not worth doing. Its a mavic manufacturing fault and you have to just put up with it.
    Last time i buy mavic wheels or any mavic stuff. Its is when good companies have a recall on their products they generally "recall" the product to be rectified. Had i known this was a problem in the moving cassette i would not of bought these wheels.
    Im my eyes they used to make great wheels. Iam sure their other people in my boat who have the same issue.
    If anyone knows

    • @StevenMolina
      @StevenMolina  5 років тому

      I understand your point. In my case, it's not worth it if Mavic's solution consists in changing the plastic bushing that in my experience does not last more than a few months and the problem starts again.
      As I wrote in the description, this is an alternative, not an official Mavic procedure. In my case this solved the problems and works perfectly, zero play on my cassette since I made the change, let me know if Mavic has another alternative to the plastic bushing of the freehub. Apart from this in general I am happy with the performance and quality of the wheels.
      Thanks for your comment!

      I put some brass shim cutout from a sheet of brass shim. Get the thin one and trace it out with the free hub washer that you place first then the cassette, cut it out put it under the washer given to you by mavic. Its allot cheeper. it might take a few shims .

      HD HD Hi! I put the link in description. You need the bearing and an adapter that fits in the place where the plastic bushing is inserted, the adapter holds the bearing. In the link (I don’t receive anything for refers people to the link btw) you can check the compatibility with your wheels but probably it works. I don’t the bearing size.

    That is simply poor engineering from Mavic. Have to say I am a huge fan of older Mavic wheels. I have a set of Mavic top end wheels that are 15 years old....still perfectly true, bearings excellent,replaced free hub once. Many thousand kms. Ridden in the Alps and Pyrenees rather than my Carbon clinchers. Would replace with good second hand Old Mavic’s from eBay rather than New Mavic’s though!

    Hey there, I have installed the hubdoctor kit, but now my my crankset is moving in drivnig direction when the wheel is durning. This is not what I have expected. Any idea what went wrong?

    • @StevenMolina
      @StevenMolina  2 роки тому +1

      Hi! It depends the type of movement you are getting. When my transmission is very clean and lubbed (just after washing my bike) if I rotate the crank with my hands and then left the wheel spin freely, all is so clean and low friction that inertia of the wheel makes crank rotate. If your case is that your freehub loss the hability of spin free or backward without moving the rear wheel, maybe your hub is too tight, due to you keep the original rubber seal o use one of the seals that comes on the kit that is ticker that the other. The seal just should be there in the bottom and don’t produce contact or friction at all.

    Beautiful wheels. But total rubbish. I'm right now awaiting a reply from Mavic; It is ridiculous that €700 wheels require additional expenditure of another couple of hundred € to function as they ought to in the first place. Not to mention how easily the rims scratch. The paint comes off the moment anything harder than a cotton pad touches it.

    Can you buy the bearing alone and not the whole hub?

    • @StevenMolina
      @StevenMolina  4 роки тому +3

      Hi! The hub is tha same, you use the same hub already installed in the wheel, its just the conversion kit. I don't know if you can buy just the bearing but keep in mind that the bearing sits in the aluminum bushing present in the kit. If you don't have the bushing, the bearing will not fit in the hub by itself. The metallic bushing fills the space once you remove the problematic plastic original bushing and then the bearing fits into this bushing. Hope my answer helps you.

      @@adamglow7132 Sorry, for some reason I did not receive notifications about your next comments.
      The wheels weigh about 1350g the pair, my weight is about 60kg and the bicycle about 6.5kg so the bending of the wheels is not much, I think minimal, even applying about 1000W sprints.
      I think they are a good alternative for all terrain, with an advantage in mountain terrains due to their low weight. The lateral wind does not affect them much and the braking power of the exalith system is quite good. The only thing that did not make me very happy was the problem of the freehub play but solved I am happy with them.
