  • Hey guys!
I'm sure if you are a Mavic user, you would have faced this before.
The Exalith coating wears off from time. There seems to be no way to get around it but I've come up with a simple solution.
All you need for the re-coating:
    1) Pen: Monami Pro Paint Marker
    2) Cost: USD5
    3) Bike Stand
and a steady pair of hands....
Hope you guys find this tip useful!

Great idea....had my Exaliths since 2014, ride avg 300km a week wet or dry and only few spots where coating has worn. I keep an eye on the pads clean them after each ride and been through 5 sets of genuine Mavic pads since new. These wheels are bombproof and pull up as good as discs. Bought Zipp 303's but not as sprightly as the Mavic's hence sold the carbons pronto!

    • @JamesLeow

Berry Rice it lasted quite a while for me. Probably a good 2-3 months. I cycle on weekly basis and 50% hilly rides. After that i re-apply the coat again and it sort of stick to it for a longer time. So my conclusion is, after 2-3 times coating it, the black ink/paint sort of stick to the surface better and last longer. 😎

I have a set of Cosmic Carbone SLE with black exalith 2.0 break surfaces that started to wear off. And tried exactly the markers you're using. Unfortunately the coating does not last even the slightest breaking - I can essentially scratch them off with my finger - perhaps my mistake was thinking you were fixing alloy rims - but your Ksyriums may be fully composite wheels and that's why I'm having no luck with mine?

    • @JamesLeow
      @JamesLeow  5 років тому +1

Hey there...the Carbone SLE has the same surface as the Ksyrium SLR. Both is coated with Exalith 2.0.
Maybe you can try this step:
      1) Wash the wheelset toroughly
      2) Dry the wheelset with hairdryer to make sure no water. And warm the wheels up
      3) Apply the coating using the pen while brake surface is warm
      4) Wait for ink to dry
      5) Apply 2nd layer, 3rd if possible
      6) Change your brakepad to Carbon ones. Thats what i use now.
These are the steps I did on my wheels and it was perfect. Hope this helps!

Mavics Exalith coating is developed & applied by "Keronite" in the UK, aerospace tech company, it's not really suitable for a surface that's going be under abrasion conditions, hence Mavic don't recommend it's use in Cyclocross ... Good product but it aint suitable for a bike rim... it will fail, it will come off, that much you can be 100% sure of ...
