    Scott, your video is the only one I found that notes that the washer goes inside the hub. I lost track of whether it was inside or out. You saved me a ton of trouble. Thanks a bunch!

      I have done it before myself and it took well over 10,000 km before the grinding sound started again, so the service is well worth it, plus it's satisfying to fix it yourself, as you will see it is actually not a big deal and saves a lot of money. It just needs refreshing through vids like this how to tighten it again, because this hub works differently than a Shimano one and you don't want to ruin it or fastening shut the rotation :) So be careful when applying the method to a different hub, even slightly different year model can have a different approach.

    I tried un threading the drive side nut with two five mil allen wrenches. I thought that I would break one of the allen wrenches. It is so tight, obviously from the factory. I was still able to clean and lube the pawls but it would have been much better if they had not tightened it so much at the factory.

    Make your life easier and get rid of that plastic bushing. Hubdoctor sells a ceramic bearing conversion kit (comes with both inner and outer bearings). Gets rid of the freehub play as well. I bought a slightly used set of Cosmic Carbone SLRs and it was the first thing I did. They sell replacement pawl springs as well that are much more stiff, so it clicks way louder. In total I probably spent about $60 off of ebay.

    • @vwforever4131
      @vwforever4131 2 роки тому +1

      They actually are serviceable. You have to remove them first (several videos to do that) without messing them up. You can pop out the seals with a razor underneath (careful not to bend the seals). I washed and removed the old grease by washing them in Simple Green and a toothbrush, rinsed, and used compress air to displace whatever water is left. I used a hair dryer to make sure they're nice and dry. There are some hub grease out there, e.g. Phil Wood, Park tools (kinda thick), etc. Pack the bearings and put the seals back. Careful you don't want to press the seals down too tightly 'cause they can rub against the bearing cage (ask me how I know).

    • @scottrider7271
