- This video will show you how to repair a Mavic rear wheel that won't freewheel properly. I've had to do this to my Ksyrium SLS wheels. Surprisingly its a very easy job. I use drugstore mineral oil.
Annoying that it has to be done, but it's definitely a straightforward job!
@@UmunhumCycleworksI agree, this should not be needed, but easy yes. Shimano hubs I never had the issue.
I never had a problem with my cheap Mavic wheel dragging, but I did get the dreaded Mavic squeal, one time. That was caused by dirt on that white plastic bearing surface. It started doing the squeal after I had around 30,000 miles on the wheel. I've put on another 30,000 miles since cleaning and lubing, and it's still quiet. (I used a thin 3 in 1 oil)
PS. To get the freehub over the pawls, I held them down with a thread, and then removed the thread before pushing the freehub all the way onto the hub.
Mavic wheels are pretty great, they just require a bit of maintenance! That's a great tip on the pawls - I'll have to try that next time.
Hello . You can use oil from a diesel car engine. ? Will this oil solve this problem?
No, that is way too thick. A small bottle of Shimano mineral oil is just a few bucks.
@@UmunhumCycleworksThank you. I did everything as you showed in the video, now everything works correctly.
Seriously, it's still bad, the problem is the Teflon ring, it needs to be replaced with a ceramic bearing and then the cassette is stiffer and works better
If no or little play in the freehub, than it's ok.
