@@MadManMusic I have been touring with a Blackstar amped2. They are pretty incredible, I use it with a mini ts9. In the loop of a boss ns2. It’s got a selection of 3 irs. With an xlr to front of house. Plus power tube simulations and switchable wattage from 1-20 -100 watts. Plus it’s actually smaller in footprint than my 6505 mh. So it’s a great fly rig..
I looked at this pedal, it said it was only for 220 volts aka European electricity standard not USA 110. I also discovered it is kinda a clone of the Carving Mach 100. The Seymour Duncan power stage pedal seem overpriced to me. I ended up getting the EHX magnum 44. It is the power for my Boss IR-2 into a 1x12 cab. It makes a simple setup for me. I really hoped Boss would make a power amp pedal.
Thanks for the great review. . I am looking to make a small portable rig as a back up to my tu e amp. This would fit in a gig bag ..it sounds great with that 7 string.
Yeah, super interesting! I'm really just using my old Ampeg 60 watt tube head on the clean channel for power and some EQ, the volume basically stays on 3 and the BOSS ME-70 does everything I need at my feet and records simultaneously out to the PC and I don't gig so I could see using one of these when that head finally blows. (It was free 22 years ago after abuse of several Vegas punk bands with a $200 cabinet, very low sound and blowing smoke, my friend helped fix with just a pluck of tweezers on the board!) Also, ur point of a back up... I know a YToober who gigs regularly and speaks about lugging his dual cab amps and stuff is a pain and had one of these small power amps one night that saved his Gig! Cheap insurance when ur amp fries at soundcheck or middle of the set to have this in the car.
Yup! Never hurts to have a back up! But sometimes people cant afford 2 $1000+ heads! So this is a viable option for someone jamming on a budget. Of course there are much better options but this is best and most affordable I’ve found yet. 🤘🏼😜

Hey thanks for the question.. It has recently been brought to my attention by another commenter that the GPA-100 is not an Option in the USA due to its power rating.. The only thing that will allow you to use this is a Power Transformer.. and honestly after the cost of purchasing one of these you're better off just buying a Seymour Duncan PowerStage. There are a few options now and they work with both 120 & 240v. Check it out Here➡️ amzn.to/3oYERsq Apologies for the confusion. 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic Thanks for the quick reply. $200 gets you the GPA 100 and a Pyle voltage converter that will that you go in both directions, voltage-wise. Was thinking a Spark Amp into the GPA into a 1x12 H&K speaker cab might make upgrade the gig possibilities for the Spark. Right now the Seymour Duncan PowerStage is $400 on Amazon. If you are interested I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again for your speedy reply - keep rockin'!
I would say just set it on top of the cab, or use some Velcro to attach it to the backside of your cab. Most pedalboards come with more Velcro than you need, and if you do need more, or if you already ran out, it's not expensive...
Setting it on top of the cab would be the easiest option. However it was originally marketed to be on your pedal board with your pedals. Either way works! It just depends on what you need personally! 🤘🏼😜

Well I wasnt using a Tube Screamer in the Demonstration section of the video.. so yeah I think it’s plenty tight. Its pretty true with emulating the 5153. I dont use a Tube Screamer with my 5153 very often either. 🤘🏼😜
Great review! Does the gpa have some sort of flat eq with all the eq knobs at noon? Or are there particular settings to achieve an eq as flat as possible?
Hey! I would assume that “Flat” is each knob at noon. It didn’t specify something else. Also please be aware that this is only usable with 240v power. So it will not work in the USA without a power transformer. Thanks for watching!! 🤘🏼😜
Hey, I was just wondering.. can this be plugged in to a focusrite or other sound processor? Rather than just a cab? Only asking as I am new to the whole power amp/pre amp thing and I notice the boost in power with my soul 😅
Well the Pre-Amp Pedal can be plugged into an audio interface. But without question DO NOT plug a power amp into your interface. That will absolutely ruin it. Preamps generally dont have a lot of power “output”.. so in almost all cases they are fine. They are things like Distortion Pedals, Amp Modelers, etc. Power Amps should only be plugged into speakers that are appropriate for them. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜
I live in Germany so I didn't need a transformer. However, If you look at the "Pinned" Comment you will see the name of an Alternative Option you can use with 120v. 🤘🏼😜
Well unless you live in a part of the world that uses 240v power, like Europe, you’re not going to find it and the power amp wont work. There is a 120v option pinned as the first comment. 🤘🏼😜
No No! Dont to that. This particular model is really only good in the EU and the surrounding areas. Check the pinned comment for a US compatible version. 🤘🏼😜
i tried the GPA 100 through my 4x12 16 ohm peavy cab and my GT-1000 modeller, but i couldnt turn it up enough without it clipping. Do you maybe have any idea why?
Modelers can be tricky because there are a lot of extra elements to the gain staging. Like the amp model has gain and volume, and then the unit itself will have its only master volume, etc etc. You might want to have a look at the amp models volume inside of your signal chain. Be wary of any compressors possibly squeezing your signal. And keep in mind that the GPA 100 is a 100 wat Solid State Amp. So its not going to be as loud as its Tube Brethren. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜
Hi great video ! Do you think its worth it to use with a non-amplified kemper to plug it in a real cab or do you really need a higher quality power amp ?
It would work fine! (Anywhere you have 240v Power - Not the US) Just be sure to use the “MONITOR - IR OFF” function because you’ll be using a real cabinet. 🤘🏼😜
First of all, Please note that the GPA100 is ONLY 240v Power. So it will not work in the states without a power transformer. But Yes, you can plug ANY Preamp/Modeler you want into it and it will amplify it into a Speaker Cab! 🤘🏼😜
Hi, great video! I, like yourself typical use the evh 5150iii with the hx effects unit. With the gpa100, could you use the hx effects with it or would you need the 5151 mooer pedal with it too? Thanks.
Hey Thanks for Watching! Firstly this GPA100 run Exclusively with 240v Euro Power.. There is no 120v Version. I wasn't aware of that when I made the video.. But in any case you WILL need a PreAmp. The HX Effects does not have Amp Models so you'll need something to give you the Gain. So Mooer Pedals, HX Stomp, MXR EVH 5150 OverDrive, Etc. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜
So we have a solid state preamp + solid state power amp + cabinet..... Does anyone noticed thats what we had decades ago with solid state combo amps ? They just put the preamp and poweramp outside the cabinet. Ok.. and no heavy power transformers
Technically the Preamps are Digital because they are a “Model”. In this example the Mooer 5053 isnt just a circuit Distortion Pedal, its an Amp Model. So it has the Sound Characteristics of the tube amp its modeling. It is interesting that now we’re able to get Tube Warmth and Dynamic Saturation from a tiny pedal thats less than $100. 💪🏼 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic I agree with that. But only in those cases where we are talking about real modelers that emulate everything. Because I'm seeing many users planning to use this to power normal pedalboards....as if this is replacing an amp characteristics. Where its the old talk about that magic poweramp distortion? Its kinda like sending a distortion pedal to PA(with an guitar cabinet). Anyway, its better believe that these modern preamp/modeler pedals are really a step ahead in terms of emulating a tube amp. Otherwise we are just doing the same that has been done. Since Marshall Valvestate and many other solidstate amps were claiming that they could reproduce the tube amp sound. Now it seems we just dismantled one of those and used its guts in 2 different pedals. One with the solid state preamp section and another one with the solid state power amp section. The HB 99 (the one with stereo output) has a giant external power supply. I guess that the pedal+PSupply alone take the same space of a old solid state power section.. so not really sure of all of these new pedals are game changers
Hey dude! Glad you dig the tune. Its music I wrote specifically as background music for my videos. So unfortunately the only way to hear it is by watching more videos!! 😈😈😈😈 And my tone comes from using an EVH 5153 with my “Nasty Cab” Impulse Response which is available in my merch shop! 🤘🏼😜
If you look around in the comments, probably the Pinned Comment, someone as listed a 120volt variant. Its a different brand name but basically the same exact power amp. Check it out. Otherwise, there is no reasonable method to using this particular amp stateside... You'd need a voltage transformer and at that point just purchase the Seymour Duncan Power Stage Amps. Hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜
Can I connect this amp with a Mesa Boogie studio preamp and a cabinet 4x12 120w at 8 Ohm??? For recording purposes,in a studio....I really like the sound of the Boogie,so I'm thinking it should work...what's your opinion?
You could! But this amp is 240v Power Only… So if you’re in the states you’d need a power transformer which might be more work ans money than its worth. If so, I’d suggest the Seymour Duncan PowerStage line of Power Amps! 🤘🏼😜
Hi again. I have one more question. I can't see any impedance selector on the pedal. How do i set it to work with a 8 ohms speaker? Thanks a bunch again!
Great Question! These small Power Amps actually have a sort of “Automatic” Impedance. So regardless which cab you connect it will detect and adjust itself. Weird I know. Sorcery!? Maybe! But its a very cool feature that these guys work with any cab. Most of these Small Power Amps work like this. Mooer, Seymour Duncan etc. 🤘🏼😜
Hey awesome! Welcome! Yeah that should work. Basically anything that is “Processing” the sound of your guitar will work going into this power amp. Hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜
Hi, yes you would need a power converter in order to use it on the USA. I could have swore i Pinned a comment and updated the Description.. Unfortunately i didn’t realize that prior to making the video.. There are a number of very low wattage pedalboard sized amps that would work in the US but i think the most bang for your buck would be one of the Seymour Duncan Powerstage Amps. I hope that helps! Thanks for watching! 🤘🏼😜
You definitely need a Amplifier of some sort. The GE200 does not have a built in power amp. The only Processor / Modeler that does have its own power amp built in is the Kemper “Power Head” and “Power Rack”. 🤘🏼😜
Because its a Power Amp, it will work with any Preamp you’d like! However, word of warning it only works with 240v power. So if you’re in the USA, you’ll have to find an alternative. Someone has posted a comment mentioning a brand that is basically the same as this Harley Benton but the Amp is 120v. 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic I'm in the UK so the voltage is the same, is that new tone x pedal a preamp pedal then..? As I'm a bit confused, as I've always played through tube amps.. Thanks
Ah ok! Then it should work fine with the appropriate power lead! Essentially anything that has Distortion can be a “Preamp”. Some Preamps are based on the gain stages of actual amps. These are your best bets! If you have questions, feel free to ask! 🤘🏼😜
@yhbfghyfdhtyu Technically I suppose you can think of it that way. EQ isn’t really exclusive to “Preamps”. They can be Post-Pre also. But I think we’re over thinking this. 🤘🏼😜
Just got this and a Mooer 012, can you plug in directly to PA with these two if cab sim on the Mooer is activated and is on all the time only switching blue/red channel?
I did not test it with a drummer but I know how loud something needs to be to get over a drummer. With a preamp with enough output signal you should be able to play with a drummer. But as I mentioned this is most ideal for playing at home or live with proper sound reinforcement. On stage with monitors this little amp is PLENTY loud. I hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜
Last week I took one of these along with a legend 1058 in a 10 inch cab and a ZoomG3n pedal and tried it against our band drummer. Our drummer let rip and this easily kept up with the volume at 3 o clock and the zoom g3n at max volume with a patch that was pushing it. Both clean sound and overdriven. Cab was on an amp stand. Plugged into a 12 inch or 2x 12 inch cab and the right preamp i think this would hold its own in most situations. If I was a gigging guitarist (as opposed to a gigging bassist) I would use this for rehearsals and pub gigs.
Of course. A power amp is a power amp. Just be sure to match impedance and not overload wattage. But yeah, match it with a preamp of choice and 👍🏼. 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic I use a Darkglass x ultra for front of house and just wanted a little noise to hear myself onstage without shelling out for a in ear monitoring rig etc.
Something like this would totally work. But, you may want to look into the Seymour Duncan Powerstage. I think they are a bit more powerful and would suit a bass cab better. 🤘🏼😜
When you turn it up it should be fairly loud. I mean louder than you want to comfortably play in your living room… but a preamp will also add a bit more volume depending on what you’re using. It certainly should be super low volume… Also, what kind of speaker are you using it with? 4x12? 🤘🏼😜
Man.. I’m sorry to hear that. You get signal out of it though? Is there any other noise? Try connecting some kind of preamp, even just a distortion pedal or something of the sort and see if its any different. Let us know how it goes! 🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic i tried only ts9 cause i dont have any preamp right now and it farts like a 0,5w amp. I know that with sd powerstage you can run it as clean amp just with guitar so im not sure how benton would be diffrent. Gonna check it next week with my buddys helix, but i gues that the guy i bought it from just screwed me over.
Ah man that socks to hear… you should definitely be able to use it clean. So if thats not working than there may be an issue with it for sure. How old is it? Maybe you can look into a factory warranty?
Could I slave in to this basically, to power another cab for my rig? I've been searching for a way to do this and have narrowed it down to slaving in to a power amp i guess.
Yup! Thats what the Slave Output is basically for! The only thing to keep in mind is if you slave out of a Tube Amp into a Solid State Power Amp, the Slaved “Tone” may not be the same. It might be Brighter and have less Low End.. so thats where its nice to have a Power Amp with an EQ. Hope that helps! 🤘🏼😜

With an xlr to front of house. Plus power tube simulations and switchable wattage from 1-20 -100 watts. Plus it’s actually smaller in footprint than my 6505 mh. So it’s a great fly rig..
Or you can somehow attach the GPA100 to your cab (velcro or something) and use a short cab cable (and a long instrument cable for the input).
Totally! 🤘🏼😜

@@MadManMusic Most review vids get on my man tits!
(It was free 22 years ago after abuse of several Vegas punk bands with a $200 cabinet, very low sound and blowing smoke, my friend helped fix with just a pluck of tweezers on the board!)
Also, ur point of a back up...

Yes. If you're running the Mooer into a Power Amp and into a Cab, you have to turn off the Cab Sim.

Thanks for the vid! What do you recommend for U.S. guitarists to be able to plug the GPA 100 into a standard 110v AC wall outlet? Preferably a solution on the small side so it doesn’t take away from the portability factor. Thanks!

@@MadManMusic Thanks for the quick reply. $200 gets you the GPA 100 and a Pyle voltage converter that will that you go in both directions, voltage-wise.
I have one but the power outlet adapter is from EU. Any suggestion?
can you use this trough a d.i. to play direct to PA?

Great review! Does the gpa have some sort of flat eq with all the eq knobs at noon? Or are there particular settings to achieve an eq as flat as possible?
Hey!
I would assume that “Flat” is each knob at noon. It didn’t specify something else.
Also please be aware that this is only usable with 240v power. So it will not work in the USA without a power transformer.
Thanks for watching!!
🤘🏼😜
Only metal zone - gpa 100 - 4 * 12 zoll works also well for me
Nice!
🤘🏼😜
Did you need to use a voltage transformer for this? I’m looking at the GPA-400 and it says you need a voltage transformer for it.
I live in Germany so I didn't need a transformer. However, If you look at the "Pinned" Comment you will see the name of an Alternative Option you can use with 120v.
🤘🏼😜
How you gonna find a 240 outlet just at random, there not everywhere you look like a 120
Well unless you live in a part of the world that uses 240v power, like Europe, you’re not going to find it and the power amp wont work.
There is a 120v option pinned as the first comment.
🤘🏼😜
Do you need a poweramp pedal to use the mooer for live? I'm trying to make an ampless signal path based on these too.
Sorry for the late reply... If you're planning on playing through a Speaker Cabinet, yes you will need a power amp. If not, you won't.
🤘🏼😜
So pretty much you just conect this thing on your washer or stove plug.?
No No! Dont to that. This particular model is really only good in the EU and the surrounding areas.
Check the pinned comment for a US compatible version.

@@MadManMusic ok🤘🤘🤘🤣🤣🤣
i tried the GPA 100 through my 4x12 16 ohm peavy cab and my GT-1000 modeller, but i couldnt turn it up enough without it clipping.
🤘🏼😜
Will it work I'm a live band situation though? Wil it push a 16 ohm cab?
Yep! It will!
Be sure to balance your gain staging but it will absolutely push a 4x12 cab!
🤘🏼😜
Hi great video ! Do you think its worth it to use with a non-amplified kemper to plug it in a real cab or do you really need a higher quality power amp ?
It would work fine! (Anywhere you have 240v Power - Not the US)
Just be sure to use the “MONITOR - IR OFF” function because you’ll be using a real cabinet.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic thank you very much !!

Can I plug in a modeller(zoom) to the gpa 100 and which goes in the cab?will it work
First of all, Please note that the GPA100 is ONLY 240v Power.
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic that's awesome, cheers dude! So, I'd need a preamp for my gain, something like a powerstage 170 for the cab & my hxfx!?.. Cool!
Thats it!
🤘🏼😜
Is there a link to the song in the background?
Kind regards
And how do I get this tone?
Hey dude! Glad you dig the tune. Its music I wrote specifically as background music for my videos. So unfortunately the only way to hear it is by watching more videos!! 😈😈😈😈
And my tone comes from using an EVH 5153 with my “Nasty Cab” Impulse Response which is available in my merch shop!

What do you do for power is USA? Not the same voltage?
If you look around in the comments, probably the Pinned Comment, someone as listed a 120volt variant. Its a different brand name but basically the same exact power amp.
Check it out.
Otherwise, there is no reasonable method to using this particular amp stateside... You'd need a voltage transformer and at that point just purchase the Seymour Duncan Power Stage Amps.
Hope that helps!
🤘🏼😜
Costs 34 bucks to ship to the US. Just FYI.
Can I connect this amp with a Mesa Boogie studio preamp and a cabinet 4x12 120w at 8 Ohm??? For recording purposes,in a studio....I really like the sound of the Boogie,so I'm thinking it should work...what's your opinion?
You could!
But this amp is 240v Power Only…
So if you’re in the states you’d need a power transformer which might be more work ans money than its worth. If so, I’d suggest the Seymour Duncan PowerStage line of Power Amps!
🤘🏼😜
@@MadManMusic No,I'm not in the States, I'm from Greece,so the power shouldn't be a problem...Thank you very much for the quick response!!!

These small Power Amps actually have a sort of “Automatic” Impedance.
So regardless which cab you connect it will detect and adjust itself.

@@MadManMusic so its not just power amp right? its an amp (power amp + preamp) with only clean channel ??
@yhbfghyfdhtyu Technically I suppose you can think of it that way. EQ isn’t really exclusive to “Preamps”. They can be Post-Pre also.
But I think we’re over thinking this.

Just got this and a Mooer 012, can you plug in directly to PA with these two if cab sim on the Mooer is activated and is on all the time only switching blue/red channel?
Not “after” the power amp. Only directly out from the pedal with the Cab Emulation on.
So, I only need the Mooer for that?
Yes, as long as you’re using the Cab IR that should be available in the Mooer.
But if you want to play through to a live amp on stage, you’ll need a power amp.

How loud is that? Did you push it with a drummer?
Totally! It rocks! I used it on tour with Pro-Pain for a week or so of shows!
Worked well! But for that band i need a bit more! 🤘🏼😜

You can.. but it will just be a mediocre clean tone. Not really usable for much…

When you turn it up it should be fairly loud. I mean louder than you want to comfortably play in your living room… but a preamp will also add a bit more volume depending on what you’re using.
