I had to try this myself. I bought a Hotone Loudster 75, which is awesome, and put a Gas Station 001 in front of it. Cheap boost pedal with it. WOW! Over my 4x12. But then I tried it over my Mooer Tube Engine. DOUBLE WOW!! Now THAT'S an experiment in solid state vs tube!

Great product, been using with with a TwoNotes Revolt into a 2x12. You basically have to run it flat out to keep up with a loud drumkit though. It likes more incoming signal than less as far as volume goes.

By the way,Mad,In Russia in the 90s we had a popular punk rock artist Yuri "Hoy" Klinskikh (1964 - 2000).He was the frontman and main songwriter of the "Sektor Gaza" "Gaza Strip" group(He had a pseudonym Hoy. "Hoy" is a greeting of Soviet and Russian punks). He listened to a lot of heavy music, in the genres of hardcore punk, death metal, rap metal and more. The most favorite band by sight of the Internet was the Red Hot Chili Peppers. One of his cd records was by Pro Pain - Pro Pain (1998).
In an interview, he answered the question - "I know that many musicians, before recording their new works, specially listen to all the latest world audio releases in order to get into the" stream "themselves. What did you listen to?"
    - "I constantly listen to something. Now something like PRO-PAIN rolls to me, some kind of music, music of such harsh guys, I like such heavy, rhythmic, evil rock."
He took the main riff from No Love Lost by Pro Pain for his song Grjaznaja Krov`(Dirty Blood). He sometimes took lines of music from other songs for fun and as a tribute to the performer.

long speakercable if you want this poweramp near you at stage. Short (0.5 - 1 m) and long guitarcabel if you want to set in on youre speakercabinet.

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  Рік тому

I would go the long instrument cable route.
Instrument cables are made with added protection from noise interference, speaker cables are not.
When the speaker cable is only about 1 meter long there isnt much to worries about but when it is much longer it is susceptible to interference.

@@MadManMusic This is exactly what I did, although with an Orange Terror Stamp.
I bought a mini reverb pedal to replace the reverb on my tube combos, and now I have the sweetest sounding rock rig I’ve ever owned on my compact pedalboard. I get my drive from a few top shelf dual distortion pedals I own (Suhr Eclipse, T Rex Dr Swamp, T Rex Mudhoney and a Rivera Dual Shaman).
Tonally ,it even outperforms my Spark 40 amp, it sounds killer clear at at a whisper or at a roar. I now need to go through the hassle of selling my redundant tube amps!
Low volume clarity is a must for me, as I am exclusively a Les Paul player who rides the neck pickup a lot.

@@MadManMusic thanks for the kind words.
One of the perks of growing older being able to afford nicer gear. I’ve only been buying pedals for the last 10 years, and to be honest, I think top shelf expensive gear should be limited to wahs, power supplies, tuners and distortion/overdrives.
I think nowadays low cost brands such as Donner are good enough for most modulation effects for non pro guys.
I’m trying to sell the Dual Shamen by Rivera if you’re interested! However, postage from the UK will probably cost you an arm and a leg.
If you want to hear uplifting alternative rock with tasty old school lead guitar, I humbly invite you to check out my band StoneThief. My lead guitar is panned to the left.

I looked at this pedal, it said it was only for 220 volts aka European electricity standard not USA 110. I also discovered it is kinda a clone of the Carving Mach 100.
The Seymour Duncan power stage pedal seem overpriced to me.
I ended up getting the EHX magnum 44. It is the power for my Boss IR-2 into a 1x12 cab.

Yeah, super interesting! I'm really just using my old Ampeg 60 watt tube head on the clean channel for power and some EQ, the volume basically stays on 3 and the BOSS ME-70 does everything I need at my feet and records simultaneously out to the PC and I don't gig so I could see using one of these when that head finally blows. (It was free 22 years ago after abuse of several Vegas punk bands with a $200 cabinet, very low sound and blowing smoke, my friend helped fix with just a pluck of tweezers on the board!)
Also, ur point of a back up... I know a YToober who gigs regularly and speaks about lugging his dual cab amps and stuff is a pain and had one of these small power amps one night that saved his Gig! Cheap insurance when ur amp fries at soundcheck or middle of the set to have this in the car.

Well the Pre-Amp Pedal can be plugged into an audio interface. But without question DO NOT plug a power amp into your interface. That will absolutely ruin it.
Preamps generally dont have a lot of power “output”.. so in almost all cases they are fine. They are things like Distortion Pedals, Amp Modelers, etc.
Power Amps should only be plugged into speakers that are appropriate for them.

    • @MadManMusic
      @MadManMusic  4 дні тому

Modelers can be tricky because there are a lot of extra elements to the gain staging.
Like the amp model has gain and volume, and then the unit itself will have its only master volume, etc etc.
You might want to have a look at the amp models volume inside of your signal chain.
Be wary of any compressors possibly squeezing your signal.
And keep in mind that the GPA 100 is a 100 wat Solid State Amp. So its not going to be as loud as its Tube Brethren.
      I hope that helps!

Technically the Preamps are Digital because they are a “Model”. In this example the Mooer 5053 isnt just a circuit Distortion Pedal, its an Amp Model. So it has the Sound Characteristics of the tube amp its modeling.

@@MadManMusic I agree with that. But only in those cases where we are talking about real modelers that emulate everything. Because I'm seeing many users planning to use this to power normal pedalboards....as if this is replacing an amp characteristics. Where its the old talk about that magic poweramp distortion? Its kinda like sending a distortion pedal to PA(with an guitar cabinet).
Anyway, its better believe that these modern preamp/modeler pedals are really a step ahead in terms of emulating a tube amp. Otherwise we are just doing the same that has been done. Since Marshall Valvestate and many other solidstate amps were claiming that they could reproduce the tube amp sound. Now it seems we just dismantled one of those and used its guts in 2 different pedals. One with the solid state preamp section and another one with the solid state power amp section. The HB 99 (the one with stereo output) has a giant external power supply. I guess that the pedal+PSupply alone take the same space of a old solid state power section.. so not really sure of all of these new pedals are game changers

Could I slave in to this basically, to power another cab for my rig? I've been searching for a way to do this and have narrowed it down to slaving in to a power amp i guess.

Yup! Thats what the Slave Output is basically for!
The only thing to keep in mind is if you slave out of a Tube Amp into a Solid State Power Amp, the Slaved “Tone” may not be the same. It might be Brighter and have less Low End.. so thats where its nice to have a Power Amp with an EQ.
      Hope that helps!

@@MadManMusic My amp doesn't have a line out. Will the FX send work the same?

Yes but you would need a ABY splitter to send signal back into the FX Return in order to hear anything out of the First Speaker.
