Here are the 4 awesome topics we are discussing today: 00:54 - Leveling the gain on your interface , 01:38 - Recording a DI track parallel to your amp sound, 03:53 - Dialing in your guitar sound, 07:09 - Basic mixing techniques - make sure to check out the full course on www.patreon.com/bernth :)
Will using a di box helps to get the clear guitar sound like Will it elimate noise cause I'm getting a lot of noise even when using a noise gate pedal😅
Do more vids like this. Ton of players at home have no proper idea about recording and mixing and at some point they are very frustrated with scattered info about it on the internet. Speaking from experience hehe :D Love the vid, thank you.
It's a good thing I went to school for Recording or I'd probably probably be spending most of my time trying to figure out what "DI" is xD Good tutorial btw Bernth!
Dude! This was excellent knowledge to take in! I went to school for audio engineering and am also a guitarist. I wish ALL of my schooling had been like this haha. I learned some awesome techniques from this video. Super stoked about it.
Excellent video. I record a lot of instrumental music (lead guitar oriented) and need these type of tutorials. Almost every tutorial is vocal oriented. Please make a lot more of these video’s. Thanks.
One thing that baffled me was the 2 signals. I had no idea that there was a DI and an amp signal playing. I thought I did something wrong. That actually makes me feel a bit better now knowing I can mute the DI signal if need be. Thank you
You are an absolute god with an axe my friend I hope you make it far. It feels good to know there is still talent and drive like that left in the world
Please do this type of video more often. This was full of great tips. I would love a video more focused on building a good tone for scratch (different examples/sub genres) in the Kemper (amp) and DI processing (maybe with different amp VSTs). Difference between amps, pedals, vsts, virtual mic placement, post processing, etc.. Maybe different ways to mix them too? I'd love to get a feel for the workflow to build the right sound for the mix in different scenarios/genres. A lot is experimenting, I know, but seeing a bad ass engineer play around with a bad ass guitarist is content IMO. Cheers!
Title: Home recording tricks Features: A full-on recording studio But jokes aside, you pretty much saved my life. It's been 11 years since I started playing guitar, I've been lazy during a lot of those times.. I'm really so glad I'm learning from this channel now
That was awesome insight! I'm recording with a 9 string ( I know, cringe for some ). There is just something about the sound that I really liked especially since the scale length is 30". I am using Archetype Rabea and Archetype Abasi. Using the ADAM for bass with Neural DSP Parallax. My guitar is going in clean. I am only putting a bit of noise suppression and a compressor at the front of the chain (using the compressor partly to attenuate the signal). Though the Amp plugins have gating, it's almost too much so I use a T.C. Electronics Sentry, which I have been very happy with! I am going to watch this video again because guitar tone is always something I struggle with when recording. It sounds one way playing but listening back always seems different. I look for separation in my recordings, ideally that you can listen with your eyes closed and clearly distinguish each instrument in their own space. This was very helpful! Thanks!!!
Very happy to hear that Arno, glad you enjoyed the full course :) It was a lot of fun to make and it really helped me as well to learn about all these cool topics!
Hi Bernth, I just bought the "10 Steps to Modern Shredding" package. I am sure that this one will make me progress at the level of my Shred, in view of your excellent educational videos on youtube, I have no doubt. Congratulations on your excellent work. In any case I am happy to start your cursus and I will give news of the evolution of my skills in the comments of your future youtube videos. Keep rocking...
Nice you're using the Nolly pack from Neural Dsp. I used that one and the Plini archetype for my tones. By far my favorite plug-ins. Also, great tips fellas!
Awesome! Thanks for the mirror-EQ tip, I'm gonna try that. My most important advice for recording would be - use new strings! And yes, also bass players ;)
Waaooohh !!! need to practice this way , the good way in my opinion , very good video !!! (Ndsp Nolly , Reaper6 ,ProQ3) , super plugins combo , the good one way to do and proceed
Great vid, you should defo make more of this. But there is only one issue with it, if you allow me to mention. No hackling really, but the title of this vid suggesting "home recording", and what I saw was a proper studio with expensive equipment. What we muggles would like to see, when we search the Yt for 'home recording' is tipps how to get low budget (free) DAW, how to use it, how to create drum lead and add bass to it for the guitar. Let alone how to publish cover songs without copyright claims and hopefuly monetize our vids. Love your content, keep up the good work!
Hi Bernth, hope you are well. I'm enjoying your channel and appreciate this video. Will check out the full one on patreon. I would love to better understand how to organize riffs for becoming a metal song. I can record riffs but after a couple i am not sure how to logically organize them and flow them together etc. I don't have a band to flow ideas off of and aspire to be my own band (for now). Thanks a lot.
I try learning the same skills of structuring by copying favorite songs at first, then it is in my subconscious and becomes easier to do on my own, also try different arrangements of riffs.
Thanks alot for doing this! After playing guitar for a couple of years and going through the process of recording with a band, I now want tolearn how to do it by myself. Already knew some things, like don't use to much gain or use DI-Tracks, but still everything is valuable knowledge. :)
Loved this! One thing I can't seem to find is a good tutorial on how to make your guitar sound good when practicing/recording with backing tracks. The backing track sounds great - the guitar sounds great - but the mix of both sux! Any tips on that subject would be suuuper welcome! Thanks man!
Love the video, thanks Bernth! After setting up the gain on the 2i2 and using archetype Nolly and other archetypes, with a noise gate, there's 0 noise. But as soon as touching a string there is a background noise that stays there while playing. Have tried all sorts of pickup heights, noise gate afterwards, different cables, different guitars. If i turn the 4khz and 8khz eq all the way down the noise dissappears but obviously the sound is shit. I don't hear the same kind of noise in this video. Any ideas? it's honestly not too loud but i notice it and drives me crazy! Thanks if you have any info.
That's awesome tricks !!! , to learn having a better and big sound , have Fab Filter plugins , and in this video that's shown how to use MB & Q3 , excellent !!! (reference video for me !!! \m/

Pan Flute Lives Matter.
B😊;;b;
Thanks
Basic info is what I need, got me back to basics! Thank you for helping me get back, (i was out there)
Will using a di box helps to get the clear guitar sound like Will it elimate noise cause I'm getting a lot of noise even when using a noise gate pedal😅
I like the trick where the lead eq is bumped and then you reverse it on the rhythms. Very clever idea!
You should definitely do more videos like these!
I would love it, too!!!!
Yes, this was bery helpful, yet not enough ,)
Lol, pay for the course this is from then
thanks Bernth , hope you sucessfully in your life for guitarist
Thank you very much, I also wish you all the best! :)

ALL THE GAIN!
NO MIDS!
METAL ZONE!
SLAAAYYYYEEEERRRR!
C'mon guys, I can't believe I'm first to do this.
You forgot the CLEAN CHANNEL!
The tip with frequencies for lead/rythm guitars was very useful and made my mix more transparent, thank you!
Start the gain with zero (or almost zero), don't put too much extreme gain.
900 hz to 1.5khz for lead guitar voice.
-thanks for the tips bernth.
2:55 that smile as soon as the distortion turns on.
One of the best guitar instruction youtube and IG channels out there! You always out-do yourself every time Bernth! Big fan sir!
@bernth your smile at 2:55 when the Kemper engages--it's good to see that even seasoned professionals can't help but enjoy distortion
It's a good thing I went to school for Recording or I'd probably probably be spending most of my time trying to figure out what "DI" is xD
Good tutorial btw Bernth!
Even if this just an excerpt, this was already golden and no-nonsense. Thanks for the stellar content as usual!
2.55.....the giveaway smile of a clean signal turning distorted!
Excellent video. My friends and family will thank you both.
Dude! This was excellent knowledge to take in! I went to school for audio engineering and am also a guitarist. I wish ALL of my schooling had been like this haha. I learned some awesome techniques from this video. Super stoked about it.
Bernth, you are a legend!
This was amazing! I am just getting into recording and I feel so clueless and lost when it comes to mixing but videos like these help

Hi everyone. I understand, that video exists more than 2 years, but maybe smb knows, which VST-plugin was used on 5:35?
