I've used many power amps with my Helix (including power sections of various valve amps, and a valve power amp), but this wipes the floor with all of them thanks to the active EQ - it's an absolute life-saver at gigs, where you have to adapt to the room on the fly. Using Helix -> this -> guitar cab, it's indistinguishable from a real amp as far as I'm concerned. That's a very, very good thing :) Also, it's violently loud even into an 8 ohm cab (when it's putting out about 85-90W). I tried a volume test, and chickened out when I could no longer hear our drummer.
@@digiscream Do you run it with Preamp section only into the powerstage, or full amp head sim into the powerstage? I id try some other custom non-tube power amp a year back with my preamps and it didnt sound as "ampy" as going through the tube power amp section of an amp head.

Those beautiful bastards certainly cooked up something spicy...
Oh my god, the Legend...Dimebag Darell i would love to have the same sound as he has! Im a BIG Dimebag Darell fan since Cowboys from Hell!!!!! 🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽🤟🏽
HAIL OLA THE UPLOADERER!
nice test man , it was awesome and fun , many thanks 👍🤟
Ola! Are you running the power amp into ur cab at 4,8,or 16 ohms?
This I need to know!
must be nice to have a Dime guitar w an original floyd rose. Im replacing the coupling bar on my dime'o flame bc the angle of the bar sucks and having it swinging around makes too much noise. Being able to set it anywhere on an original is where its at. My kh2 plays like a dream.
Ola,
What speakers do you use in that cabinet?? I have an helix LT
and I'm considering buying that amplifier !! Thanks
Do you prefer it to a external tube power amp, like your custom 50w fortin satan power amp? I would guess the tubes still win?
Asking as I am looking into getting one for my pedal rig but not sure if I should go for something like the power stage or if I should get a 50w tube power amp. I love plugging my preamps through fx loops of 6505 or 5150s.
That's a very, very good thing :)
Also, it's violently loud even into an 8 ohm cab (when it's putting out about 85-90W).
Also, given that I've got a lightweight Matrix 2x12", the fact that this fits in my rucksack with the Helix means I can carry everything from the car in one go and be set up before everybody else has finished lugging their gear in :D
@@peterrovaniemi138 - I use the full amp models, because it's very neutral as a power amp and I only use the EQ very lightly to correct for stage resonance and damping.
I'm buying one today. Going to have it in a few hours from now haha.. I'll use it with my FM3 (Fractal Audio). Can't wait to hear that. I hope it will sound as good as in your video. I'm pretty sure it will, with all the good review this thing has.
update? how does it sound at band practice and live?
would you be able to plug that into front of house? Like, could I use this at a gig without the need for a cab or will I still need one
I bought one for my AX8. I like it but, I find that it sounds pretty fizzy with any preset I use so I end up using the global graphic EQ on the AX8 a lot.
Do you have the power amp sim on your AX8 off or on? I use an AX8 with the Powerstage 170 and I have the power amp sim turned on. I haven't gotten any kind of fizziness with it so far.
How are you sending from you interface to your cab? Plugging cab into the monitor section?
Ola... do i need this poweramp or i'm just as good with only my amp's poweramp?
How would the cab impact volume. I am considering the PS 170 or 200 for a 2x12 16 ohm cabinet with 60 Watt speakers. Will it be enough?
That replay slo-mo made my day😂😂😂
nobody:
my neighbor at 3am for no exact reason: 2:50
Is the Hesu rated at 4, 8, or 16 Ohms?
8 I believe.
Turning the knob on the left all the way up sounds like what you'd hear through the floor as your neighbor plays.
So you need plug-ins to run this?
Is it possible to to just plug straight into it and run that through a cab?
Perhaps try using the dB(C) weighting if it's available on your meter to measure the peak loudness more accurately, measurements using A weighting above 100dB SPL won't be as accurate generally speaking.
the fortin power amp is really hard to come by. Whats your top recommendation of a power amp to use with a synergy module or preamp pedal?
"That's not healthy at all." ~ Ola Englund 2019 \m/
Can this be used for live performances alone with a half stack with an overdrive booster?
You know the sound when a 1979 Datsun drives by with a 10,000 watt boom boom "stereo"
with rattling speakers in every rusty door?
More videos like this please !
Great review Ola. Any chance to do a side to side comparison against the ISP Stealth Pro Power Amp?
I need that jersey!!! Why not to make one for the Ola merch?! Will be fantastic!
Solid 6/10
So what's happening with the old valve warmth vs solid state argument now?
I love that 3:02 moment!
Just to be stupid I matched your dB reading in my own studio with monitor speakers to get in the mood. Loud enough.
2:02 You know shit hammers, when Ola does this face
Love the idea, but still not sold for a replacement of my main rig.
Not a fan of how that DImebag plugin sounds tbh
Måsstaden I know. Sounded too muffled
@@AQS521 Ola had the treble pretty low. More treble and midrange would've opened up that sound.
Woofy
I want it 🤘 but I don't think I have the money for it, how much in USD ola
Hey ola, question for your faq, have you heard of Byzantine from West Virginia, if not you should give them a listen
I use the 200 version with a 2x12 at 4 ohms and it doesn't sound as loud as any 50 watt tube amp.
Hey Ola, sorry for the delayed comment. Would this work for a bass rig?
What string gauge do you use on standard tuning Ola?
Can this be used with just a amp modeler in front of it?
Ola is more wasted than me...love it
Sounds bad ass man!
Nice guitar!
How would it sound with a high gain distortion pedal instead of the plug-in?
Please, review to harley benton gpa-100
Where you get the pedal stand? 🤔
Sorry for my comment on last video but i was a bit scared. Awesome peace of hardware that Powerstage...and THAT WASHBURN!! \m/ so much better than the chug video without db meter ;P
I don’t use the eq on my powerstage 170 so not to interfere with my master effects preamp pedal
I wonder how much ohms wat the stage plugged to? I hate the sound of a 4ohm input
thank for good video! so, companies sending you all shit , do you keep it or return it?
Crazy bass there but still pretty clear.
All I can say is; HO-LY-FUC-KING-SHEEET that power amp solves almost any problem a guy with a rack can have! also usefull if your amp doesnt match the impedance of your cab but has a direct out
Would this work with an Axe Fx II to power a cab?
George Smith yes. That’s how I run my setup
@@jamieburns2051 holy crap. Thanks!
I use the Powerstage 170 to run my Fractal AX8 into a 4x12 Mesa and it's awesome.
Hey Ola can you do a review of the 'NEMBRINI AUDIO BST100 SUPER OVERDRIVE '? IT'S ON SALE NOW TOO. WOOHOO
Could you try the Harley Benton 100w - £90 ! Compare pls
